How to get God of War Collection for FREE

  1. Head to the storefront.
  2. Get the free full game trials (PS+ required) for God of War HD and God of War II HD on the PS3.
  3. Finally head to the God of War Collection page, and select the PS Vita version. It should be free and upon purchasing it, you'll get that and the PS3 version of God of War Collection for free.

The above method is apparently dead, but a number of people have confirmed it still works if you got the PS3 trials and buy it via the PS Vita Store.

Check your Vitas PS Store if you got in on the PS3 trials. It just poped up free for me!!!!

What if I already own God of War I/II digitally?

If you already own both games, then you can simply purchase the Vita version. Sony confirmed a while back that the title supported Cross-Buy, so you can do this regardless of the glitch. This also applies to people who scored I/II from the other glitch, so those people got really lucky.

About the file size

In this and the other topic, a few people have wondered about the games 15.5 GB file size. This total comes from the combined total of both the PS3 version and PS Vita version of God of War. For those wondering about the actual file sizes, you can find them below.

It's just the combined total of the PS3 and Vita version.

  • God of War Collection Vita - 3.1 GB
  • God of War I PS3 - 5.9 GB
  • God of War II PS3 - 6.5 GB
  • Total Size = 15.5 GB
Will this work on other games?

No. This glitch only worked because of God of War being a Cross-Buy title and how the PSN handles full game trials. Simply put, buying the full game trial results in the PSN thinking you purchased the game, which for one reason or another, was enough to trick the PSN into thinking you owned the game and were entitled to the free Vita version.

Ah nuts, I burned the trials for each GOW game.  Oh well, I have the GOW collection on PS3 disc.  I still like the idea of cross-buy.  Wish more companies did it.  I strongly dislike buying the same game twice just for portability or just to have the option to play it on a big screen television.

I owned 1 and 2 individually when they were free (accidentally i think) last year or so, so it says the the Collection for PS3 And VIta are unavailable for me.

I would check back later. I believe Sony might have pulled it so they could prevent more people getting in on this glitch.

Interestingly, me too.
It says "Choose Version" and gives me two option to either download 12.5GB to PS3 or 12.5GB to PS3.
PS Blog says it's cross buy, so anyone who owns the collection on PS3 will get the Vita version frre and vice versa. So if you succeeded in glitching the Vita collection you now have both.

Could someone else see if the "non trial" versions of GOW 1 & 2 HD are free for them to purchase on the web after purchasing the trial version.

got them, but i have no room currently. thanks!

anyone know if its cross save, shared or seperate trophy list?

They definately have caught on I was able to get full versions of god of war 1 and 2 on ps3 so hopefully I will still be able to get it on vita.

This was a nice surprise, I got in while at work, pulled out the Vita and used the work wifi. Now at home, and downloading it all to my PS3.

I can't even find the trial downloads to see if I can attempt this. Both links are dead and searching on the store got me nowhere. So I guess I missed it.

wonder if they could remove it off your download list meaning if you delete it would not be able to redownload it for free
i dont believe they have a way of differentiating those who got it free and those who got it legitimately through cross buy so it should be fine

Showed up free for me on Vita as well. Figured I didn't get in on this deal but since I got the trials before they took them off looks like I did lol thank you OP and Ruger for posting that it's working on Vita.

Somehow finally got this to work. Got the trials earlier in the day when this was first posted and then looked up the GOW collection on my vita just now and purchased the game for free. Hopefully it's not a mistake ? Looked at transaction history and it said 0.00 so I'm assuming it's fine

Just got both PS3/VIta versions downloading both! Seems if you got the trails earlier you should be able to download the games. The trails are gone now! Thanks for posting!!

Didn't work for me 30 minutes after the glitch started. Just went to PSN online store, game says $29.99 but when I added it to basket it became free. I have it downloading now on my PS3. Glad I at least downloaded the trials earlier.

edit- Like OP says, semi alive again. If you downloaded the trials earlier, it should work on the online store right now. Just read the posts above me, glad to see they're working again for a bunch of people. I almost missed out twice

Wait, so is this cross-buy or not?  I was under the impression that it was not, but I was able to download it for free on my Vita (I did buy the digital collection on my PS3 a few years ago).  Was that supposed to happen?

It was a Cross-Buy.

Sony:

As an added bonus, if you purchase God of War Collection for PS Vita system via PlayStation Store, you’ll get the PS3 version for free via cross buy (and vice-versa).

I snagged the trials earlier but didn't download them. Now I see that I can d/l the vita version. I also see that the PS3 version can be downloaded for me. However, I'm hesitant to download & install the PS3 game if it is still the Timed Trial version; I don't want to start that up and get stuck with the trophy list and have to pay to play it after the 60 minutes ends. Can somebody who has downloaded this please confirm that it works? Thanks.

Wow, worked for me as well, and I downloaded the trials well after people were reporting it not working anymore.  Feel kinda dirty, but at least I do own the disc.

well I also randomly decided to check the ps store on my vita and found that it was free. so looks like i got in on this too. thanks OP!

Not concerned with the vita ports since those likely run like shit, but I didn't have the PS3 games either so this makes for a nice treat. Never got a chance to play these on PS2.
