is there any reason I couldn't buy a 10 pound download code from game.co.uk? looks like it'll let me check out with my US address and my credit card certainly doesn't care if I charge stuff in the UK. need to check if that EU sale is PS+ only before I go off buying stuff.
You could also try cdkeys.com. I use paypal with them, just in case anything happens.

You can't compare number directly because the industry is much larger today than in the 80s and 90s. Something like market share would be a much better comparison.
that really looks like it could be percentage marketshare. somehow they had slightly more than 100% with the wii and about 6% with the wiiu. also, you're seriously like 16 hours late to this conversation, we were about to talk about which final fantasy is best.

Clearly XIII-2 HD, cuz it has the best clothing simulation. And trophies.

picked up that godforsaken tomb raider platinum. I will never get the platinum in vanquish.
Was thinking of going for it when I got it, then saw the dumb online trophies... I hate online trophies! Since I got my PS4 and Vita I have tripled my trophies and really got into how much I love Plats compared to just 100% on Xbox. So I traded in my xbox for a PS3 and am going back and trying to platinum some more PS3 games. I picked up all the NCAA games that have trophies to play, NCAA 10 I am one trophy away. Then after that I am going for the Uncharted Plats, pretty deep in all three already. If I can get them all, I should hit 10 Plats. Plus I got some Vita games I need to clean up (Lego LOTR, Tearaway, MLB 14)

I don't know how you guys Platinum stuff. I have a hard enough time finishing games along with the ever looming backlog. I always believe a platinum would double the amount of playtime, like a 10 hour game would turn into 20...is that not the case? Do you guys pre-plot out on the 1st playthrough to go for the platinum? I like trophies popping but just can't seem to invest the extra time. I kind of like moving on to the next game too.

Platinums are the best. #Mercenary

http://playstationtrophies.org/forum/

They have trophy guides/roadmaps that I try to follow to maximize trophy attainment in my first playthroughs. If I enjoyed the game enough after beating it and didn't get the platinum yet, I'll continue to use the guide/roadmap.

I cheat and think most everyone else does too.  I check out trophies at playstationtrophies.org and other sites.  If it looks fun and not 100 hours to plat I will attempt it.  If I get bored or get suck more than once or twice on a hard run that is required I will just finish on normal or even easy depending on the game.  Basically if I really enjoy a game or its just okay but really easy and quick I will plat it.

EDIT, yeah what Vigilante said.  If it werent for the internet no one would have more than a handful of plats or 100% unless they did nothing but play games 24/7.

i used to look up guides for every game i played on 360, and even a few of my early ps3 games. i don't bother with boosting though, and barely touch most multiplayer sections of games. so i never did get a ton of 100%/plats. lately i just go for plats i'm not far off from, if it's a plat for a game i really like, or if it's not far from beating the game. i usually end up getting bored before the end of super grindy ones. i've been in a slump lately compared to some of my past streaks, but that could be a product of a lot of rpgs being played. maybe after i finish gta and b-lands/soul sac i'll go, and knock out the vita and ps3 walking dead plats. get some momentum going. i am trying to focus more on the backlog than on trophies atm though.

Playing a game with a guide to get trophies sounds like the most boring thing ever. Let's argue about trophies again!

Probably should use a special font with that. Too lazy to look in the guide to find out which font to use.

play normal and master parrying+roll, then play Hard.

Parry: L1 + X

Roll: R3
I already beat it on normal, but that was a year ago when the game came out. I wasnt planning on getting plat because I had a shit ton of other games to play at the time. I definitely have to master those again plus spamming the grab maneuver wherever possible.

Following a guide can definitely ruin the experience. If it is a game I just want to experience first and then trophy hunt later I do not even look at the trophy list. There is something that is satisfying about secret trophies that pop with no prior knowledge.

Actually I don't get secret trophies at all. They are just completely stupid.
Usually secret trophies are related to the story. But I agree with the others that arent. Even trophies that arent "secret" can be very vague. Without a guide I would never know what they mean or want me to do.

Yeah, I will once in a while use a guide to pick up missable trophies during a first playthrough but that's usually all I refer to in guides before I beat the game.

Like Uncharted 3* has 100 collectibles. If I wanted the plat I'd either have to constantly refer to a guide during my first playthrough (which ruins the experience) or play through the whole game again to get them (which I almost never do). So I just go into games like that knowing I'll never platinum them.

*UC3 is actually a bad example since the plat would require 2 playthroughs anyway. But it still helps me make my point.

Going for the plat definitely tanked my opinion of Golden Abyss.  Infamous SS was a lot more fun to get though and not overly grindy.  They could have made it a lot worse, like get 100 of each side mission or something.  I would not have bothered.

In games like TR, those with long term MP requirements, I've just committed to not bothering at all and just maximizing my first run-through or until burn out sets in.

Same here with Tomb Raider. Any MP trophies other than "play one match" or "finish the tutorial" means I wont bother with a plat or trophy hunting.

More power to Pete and others like him for getting the TR plat.

Yeah, just make the secret trophy vague and not secret. That wouldn't spoil anything, and if they're smart they make them jokes. When you get them you laugh when you suddenly realize what they mean. Win.

I have found that most vague trophy descriptions are also very obscure or hard to find/pull off in game. Unless you read a guide. Or your a Wizard.

Any other CAGs in San Diego county having fun with these fires?
I don't live near the fires, but traffic this morning was non-existent.

Bought some Atlus games... for like the 10th time. I had all but one of them ripped, cause my PSP's is barely usable any more, so I put them on my PSPGo. But since I haven't touched that in almost a year, and they all play on my Vita, I just went with the convenience.

Ended up buying P3P, Crimson Gem Saga, Riviera, Hexyz Force, Gungnir, and Growlanser (the only one that I didn't rip, cause I never opened my physical copy).

Yuck, last-gen versions.

Also interesting that he didn't mention the last gen Assassin's Creed that is rumored to be coming out this fall.
Exactly. Even though I don't have a PS4 yet, I would rather them focus on making the game as good as possible without it being hamstrung by having to run on older consoles.

Anyways, man I'm tempted for P3P to play on my vita, but I already jumped the gun on P3 Fes awhile back for $5. Hmmm...

Would anyone recommend another atlus game on sale over P3P or is it the cream of the crop?
I can't tell you why I bought them over the others, but 6 or 7 Atlas sales ago after looking at reviews and let's play videos for all of them I decided on Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble, Shin Megami Tensei®: Persona® 3 Portable, and Yggdra Union.

Do you play Spelunky for the story? There's no need for saves in that game.
No, but it would be nice to have a little variety and not have to play the same section of the game over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over to play a level or two of something slightly different. By "saves" I imagine he means the function that the shortcuts serve in splelunky, that you can start further in the game to more easily practice those sections for when one decides to try a complete run instead of always having to start at the beginning.

what the fuck is CW?
It's a broadcast network that gets a lot of shit because it once exclusively targeted young, teenage girls but in the last 5-8 years has had a lot of quality programming like Nikita, Supernatural, Arrow, Reaper, Veronica Mars, etc.

Finished Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood last night. Hard to explain why, but I enjoyed it a little more than Red Dead. Maybe it was the more focused nature of the game. Definitely not a bad pickup for the ~$5 I paid for it.
It could also be that sometimes the gameplay of Red Dead was pretty, but nonsensical, for instance, why am I murdering all these people to protect this conman that I just met other than because the game is forcing me to? WTF wouldn't my character just say "take'em" and ride on.

I'll be buying Gungnir and Hexyz Force. I already had qutie a few of the games. Decided not to grab P1 and P: IS due to how dated they are, Riviera looks like a crap port and I dislike the card game approach, Knights in the Nightmare looks like it'd get annoying fast, and Yggdra Union just looks dumb.

So at this point I've got all but like...4 of the Atlus PSP games that go on sale every other week. I don't think I'll ever grab them, tbh, so future Atlas sales are just going to be annoying forever since they're constantly happening.

Sure would be nice to see a NIS sale, though.   :wall:

The last few weeks have been pretty good for me resisting sales.  So far this week is another no-spend event so far.

As for trophy hunting, I personally only partake in that after I've completed a game and I want to see what else it has to offer.  I don't think I could just sit there and slog through a game I'm not enjoying for trophies alone, but if the game is great then I will want to experience all it has to offer.  Heck pre-trophies and achievements were a thing, I played through Shenmue many times because events in the game could work out several ways and that influenced the experience slightly.  To me, that was fun to go back to in a game I loved.  Same for Infamous.  I enjoyed the game enough to want to play through and make the evil decisions and since I played through on hard mode the first time and grabbed all the shards and other collectibles, I made it a little easier and more fun for the second run through since I didn't have to do any of the extra stuff.

I have no problem with anyone playing as a pure trophy hunter.   It's not for me at all, but what do I really care how other people game.  Heck there are people that spend all their time playing endless freemium junk to earn enough gems or coins to inch their way towards getting another hat or other stupid useless thing.  If folks want to just trophy hunt in games they aren't very interested in, I could care less.  It's not like virtual trophies actually mean anything in the real world.

Supernatural is good enough (though the actor who plays the tall brother is an annoying douchebag in every role he takes)...though I still need to finish S5. I don't know that I'll ever watch past that as it seems like continuing on after the S5 villain is anticlimactic. S5 is also where I stalled on Smallville, thinking about it now (also a CW show.)

Reaper...meh. The main character was just horrendous and his love interest was boring as hell, as was their relationship. The side characters were the interesting ones. Ray Wise as Lucifer was a fantastic fit, though.

VM...did you watch the movie yet? How was it? Honestly for the TV show, S3 was really bad and I haven't gotten up the interest to bother with the movie because of it. S2 was kind of meh, too. S1 was quite strong, though.

I know nothing about Arrow or Nikita and should probably check both out.

really really enjoying soul sac delta. improves on absolutely everything from the original game. there's not even a ton of dialogue, but i can't put the stories down. the atmosphere is just perfect. borderlands might be sidelined for a while.

For me I have actually decided that I want to at least stay near a 25% completion for trophies.  I feel like I can just play through games for fun while getting some trophies to pop here and there.  If after i play through I believe going through again would be fun I go for the Plat.  Although if there are some ridiculous online ones I don't bother. But if they are fairly simple I'll go for it.  Infamous SS took maybe 10-15 hrs total to Plat and was fun because you got to experience both good and bad.  I love my sports games, so they are fun for me to try and do unless they have terrible MP ones again.  FIFA is pretty easy, and the NCAA ones never had online ones.  I love NHL but their online are the worst ones, because you actually have to get ranked on leader boards and make online playoffs.

Madden hasn't been too bad, but the MUT superbowl and championship ones are what suck.

Guys, based on Breakfuss's GAF post, I want to try an experiment.

Let's all start saying that Nintendo is awesome, trophies ruin games, and Polygon is the only site on the Internet with journalistic integrity. Then let's see if he argues with us.

Do you want affa to report you for circlejerking? :argue:
i've never reported anyone for anything in my life. my dad taught me better than that.

you guys go do whatever it is you're going to do. mention it to velo, he might want to film it.

I'm a completionist.  Always have been, always will be.  If there's an unlockable, I'm getting it.  Stuff to collect?  Gimme.  Way to max stats?  I'm doing it.  Since trophies fit that description, I get 'em all along the way.  If that means I'm playing Uncharted 3 for two-and-a-half months, so be it.  It was a blast getting those co-op trophies.

Supernatural, first half of season 6 = meh, second half of season 6 = good, Season 7 is pretty weak, I hear it improves when being binge watched. Season 8 was good and season 9 has been pretty good, other than that filler episodes have been extra weak this season. After season 5 is when I switched over from catching up to watching live so having to wait a week or more between episodes instead of watching 2-4 episodes in a night in a row might also have impacted my enjoyment.

Nikita is a great action spy show with actual adults, it finished with a short, 6 episode final season so it doesn't end on a cliffhanger. It's a little like Supernatural in that each season completes an arc and it reinvents itself a little at the start of the next season. Arrow was pretty good last year in its first season, but in season 2 when they switched to more serialized storytelling it has been consistently exceptional.

Haven't seen the Veronica Mars movie yet waiting for it to be red boxable

Smallville sucked after the first few seasons until about the last two seasons, when it went in a different direction and became awesome again.

Supernatural is definitely not as good after season 5, but still enjoyable enough.

Arrow is kind of good in a "wow, this writing is really bad but I'm still entertained" kind of way. And it has some really likable characters. Well, like three.

Yggdra is the best of the bunch imo. Riveria is pretty good too.

I started watching Supernatural but got sidetracked a few episodes into S2.  They have so many episodes in a season so I kind of doubt I'll get the time to watch all of them.
