  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I take the July GWG is a good indicator of what 360 owners can expect from the program going forward...jack squat. Hopefully there will be a good Deals with Gold in July so I can use up my credits before it my Gold expires in August.

 
Speaking of things season 2, in a spoiler-free manner, what's everyone's thoughts on TWD seas.1 vs seas.2? I have played the first but not 400 days.

I've almost completey forgotten about that and TWA. I don't know if it's because last gen is getting overshadowed including xbla titles or it just really isn't as good as the first season, because holy crap, that was an awesome ride that I still remember.

There's no one claiming the game absolutely must be played, like previously. Is it a case of bad sequels? Or has TWD worn out its welcome?
 
I guess I just don't understand what the people complaining about the games that are chosen to be free want. The newest retail release? A game in the genre that YOU want, but haven't bought before? What did you really expect them to do? Plenty of people (and most critics) agree that Battleblock is a great game. So the program sucks because you already bought or don't like the genre? Makes no sense, but neither does arguing about it for pages on end and wasting the thread subscribers time. End of rant.

Honestly I think folks are seeing some of the AAA stuff that ps+ gets and GWG had a great month in June so were expecting it to follow suit. I mean do people even play Gotham city impostors?
 
I always kind of liked Gotham city impostors, but I don't like multiplayer only games, so I knew I wouldn't even play it. Anyways free is free so... my only concern is my lack of free HDD space (no, I won't delete ANYTHING from it).

Just imagine for a moment that Xbox Live is free, there is no Gold and everyone can access multilayer. There is no GwG, just free games to download every month. Ok, even this scenario will not change anything, ppl will still complain because shitty game is the shitty, period. Now some folks feel entitled: "I pay for Xbox Live and I expect to get great free games" Well they meant to be disappointed because MS has function of its own. Not all games are great, some are good some are bad. The point is - you can't satisfy every one. End of rant.

Yep. I still play it, and always pretty easy to get into a match of Team Deathmatch. Nobody seems to play the other modes very much but that should change once the game goes free next week.

I think the trial gives you an hour's worth of multiplayer. It might be worth downloading the trial now to check it out and see what you think and to get a bit of a headstart on all the other new players next week.
 
People, we had a month of two arcade games before. And in this past month we were given two full retail games and an arcade game. Even if in the whole future of Games with Gold we were only given two arcade games that's still not a horrible thing. If you own it and the games have multiplayer, now you have people to play with or against. If you're given $5 worth of games twice a month for a year, that's still a $120 value over a year. You're still being given a game. And since no one on this site is paying more than $30-40 for Live access, you're still coming out with good value.

I'm actually okay with this. The choices are slim and rarely appealing. It makes me pause now to buy games because unless I really want them I get aggitatied seeing them free right after a sale....deadlight. I'd rather have the ps rental system so i don't feel ripped off because i bought the game. The program has been a bust for me and i'm sure I'm not alone.

I still think they should throw out a selection of free content including dlc and indy games and you pick one or two for the month. Even if I got a stupid avitar item it would give me something I could use in certain games I actually play but would never pay money for.
 
I think you guys are missing why Gotham City Impostors as a GWG is annoying.

It went Free to Play on PC. For some inexplicable reason, the console version never got the same treatment.

There are far more people on here whining about people whining than the people who were whining to begin with.  Why do individuals get so offended by people not liking a given game selection?  No one is telling anyone that they can't like it themselves.  To me, it definitely seems like MS is shifting their focus away from 360 in regards to GWG.  That's their prerogative and, honestly, its probably a sound business decision.   I don't intend on getting a One for quite a while, and I don't do multiplayer, so maintaining a gold subscription beyond it's expiration becomes less and less appealing when I see months like this.  A few months ago MS said they were listening to gamers and were going to do better with the program, so when I see a month like this, it confirms to me my theory.  Instead of taking comments personally, invest that effort into examining the functionality of your mouse's scroll button.

I think I'm going to post some variation of this every time I ever see someone call a GWG game "free", just because I've had to read it a million times whenever someone tries to criticize PS+.

 
It all depends how u see it i guess

i consider it free cause i get xbox live for youtube,twitch and other apps

including online games i played

so yea i consider it free cause my xbox subscription is used mainly

for everything else and the GWG is just an added bonus

just my opinion obviously im not saying anybody is wrong how they view it

If PS+ let you keep your games when your sub expired, I'd never give anyone shit for calling it free now that it's required for PS4 MP. Apples and oranges with the way it's currently set-up though.

On the topic of XB1 free games, I know it's subscription based, but how exactly does it work?

If I have Gold, I get the games free.  -ok, got it

Qsts:

- Do I have to be online to play those games?  Even single player ones?  Seems like answer should be yes cuz how else would it know that I have Gold...

- I know we don't have access to those games if Gold expires.  Let's say I have Max for free now, I let my Gold expire in July, I renew in Sept.  I know I don't get the free games in July and August, but will I still be able to play Max which I got when I did have Gold?

You don't need Xbox Live for YT, Twitch, etc. ;)

 
I work in accounting so I figure microsoft probably has a monthly budget allotted to games with gold. It probably wasn't cheap to offer guacamelee free on release so that probably ate up most of the budget. I can't imagine Battleblock Theater was a cheap deal either. So maybe in August if they pick two cheaper games or get a better deal on a game for Xbox one then you will see two games offered.

I've been curious since both companies (Sony and Microsoft) started doing this, I wonder if they pay the studio per game downloaded or a fixed amount to offer it free for the time period.

Fixed amount usually, though I think you overestimate how much they pay to get the games on PS+/GWG.

I got up 6:30 this morning, couldn't sleep. Took a basketball out to the court to shoot some hoops.  Love the sound of the net when the ball goes through it.  Perfect shoot.

Anyway I would love to sleep 12 hours.

 
Off topic: When school was in session, specifically during second semester, I usually slept 3 hours (5 if I was lucky) a day as a result of taking all AP courses (Note: I took 6 classes).

Back on Topic: It looks like I will end up purchasing Vanquish after playing it at my friends house; Sonic Generations, & I may impulse buy Sonic 2 just for the achievements.
