This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Damn you Microsoft....your actions are ripping our family asunder. First your free 360 games caused us to salivate, after all it doesn't get cheaper than free....then we noticed...we caught you giving away games that were recently on sale. WTF, that is a straight mind blow cause now we don't know if we are cheap come Date Night or reckless spenders. And now, now you have the unmitigated balls to promise free XOne games......end GWG like yesterday and restore our pride and joy....that face in the mirror that just saved $2 on an arcade title whilst the common fools paid full price...in this we pray

And to think I was about to purchase banjo kazooie, might as well wait now and get this if the price is right. Even though Banjo Tooie from what I remember wasn't as good
Tooie is an excellent game. The only real knock against it is it's almost too big and intertwined for its own good. I recently played through both XBLA ports. Had played BK XBLA back when it came out and wanted to knock BT off the backlog, but played through BK again first. With BK, you can collect everything in each level before moving on to the next with just 1 exception where 2 worlds teach you moves that are required for completing the other. (This doesn't include heading back to the level where you can enter cheat codes.) With BT, a lot of the levels are directly connected to each other, with many collectibles only obtainable by finding the alternate entrances or requiring moves learned in later levels. Can get pretty frustrating trying to collect everything (not required for any achievements), though it shouldn't be too much trouble to collect enough to at least progress from level to level.

Off topic: When school was in session, specifically during second semester, I usually slept 3 hours (5 if I was lucky) a day as a result of taking all AP courses (Note: I took 6 classes).

Back on Topic: It looks like I will end up purchasing Vanquish after playing it at my friends house; Sonic Generations, & I may impulse buy Sonic 2 just for the achievements.
All great purchases! Might I also suggest Sonic All-stars Racing Transformed as well :p Definitely an amazing game!

Hmm judging from that I would guess $100,000-200,000 for smaller titles and maybe up to $600,000 for bigger retail games?
The numbers would be way easier to determine if we had internal sales data like Xbox and Sony do.

I think it totally depends on the game and how many sales they expect for it for the month. Hypothetically lets say Gotham City Imposters sold 6,000 units in June and is anticipated to do about the same in July. So 3000 (since it's only free for half the month) multiplied by $15 is $45000 would probably be the upper limit. Keeping in mind that Warner Bros doesn't see the full $15 from each sale and the fact that being free should really rejuvenate the game for a couple months (and improve DLC sales) and increase goodwill and word-of-mouth about the game and MS could probably offer something like $25,000 to WB to make the game free for a half a month.

Newer games would be harder to figure out but I'm sure they just use estimates and such to arrive on a figure. And I'm sure the Guacamelee publisher is seeing a whole lot more money than the GCI one.

So, anyone buy the new XBLA game Valiant Hearts?

Looks interesting but idk about that $15 price tag

Going to download the trial now
I'm thinking about getting it for X1. From the streams I've watched of it, it looks different. I don't know about full price different though. Maybe during a sale.

As great as trials for X1 games would be, having streams and gameplay videos in the marketplace are very nice. You can see what the game is like without spending time downloading and playing a trial.

There we go, Microsoft will be the mistress of our marriage game.

And you, just perfectly described Tooie.

Does anyone know if in the Banjo Kazzoie & Banjo Tooie bundle the games come listed as separate downloads? I ask this because I picked up Banjo Kazooie back when it was on sale for 560 msp like 3-4 years ago and I'm considering deleting it if I could access both games via a single game app.

Why is hard drive space an issue? Just play a game, then delete it. If you want to play it again, redownload it.

download, play, beat, delete

Word.[/quote]That is difficult for CAGs with large backlogs and slower than average internet speeds.

Paranoia? The day MS takes down all the servers and you can't download your games? I know the reason MS shut down the original OG XBox servers, but whose to say they won't do the same for the 360 a few years down the road? For that reason alone I try to keep as much DLC and games on there as possible, at least the arcade ones. Games on Demand I just kinda say "whatever" most of the time considering worst case scenario I can grab a disc based copy.

If they do, probably won't be until the close of the XB One generation.

OMG I've just watched The Raid 2, uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh I feel exhausted. And no more red meat for a week.

I wish the director would be in charge of every action scene of all moviez in dah world! I really can't get enough of that camera work. Brilliant!

Offtopic: those GwG suck balls :shame:  Well not really, Battleblock is awesome.

True, valid points and I definitely know what you both are saying

I just log onto Xbox.com and check my download history whenever I want one of my games back in the box.

I have a 250GB and its always full, but whenever I beat a game and I don't think I will be replaying it anytime soon, I just delete it and make room for more of these...how do I put this...sometimes good sales?

Like I said though. That's just how I do things. I have certain games I won't delete. Most are expendable.

I heard it was really long, but also a good movie.

I used to feel the same way. Always trying to keep everything, even if I thought there was a 0.000001% chance I'd ever play it again. Then I looked at how many original Xbox games I've played since 360 came out. I think Halo 2 is the only one, maybe one of the Burnout games. I haven't touched any older than original Xbox systems in over 10 years (technically I boxed them up while moving and my hand touched them). I'm already using 360 significantly less now that I have X1 (Hulu Plus in bedroom and fighting games). By this time next year, I'll probably have my 360 packed away somewhere never to be heard from again.

Somebody should make a spoof of hoarders with people that want to keep everything on their Xbox. This would be a rather extreme example.

Show host: "Your family loves you and wants to play recent releases with you, but you won't delete older games to make HD space. Let's delete a little at a time. You have over 1 TB of content spread across 7 HDs. This game is a good one to start with..."

Hoarder: "NO YOU CAN'T DELETE YARIS! IF SERVERS GO DOWN I WILL LOSE IT FOREVER!!!"

SH: "Ok, let's delete this online multiplayer only DLC for a game that got it's server shutdown."

H: "WHAT IF THE SERVERS COME BACK UP IN 20 YEARS AND I DON'T HAVE THE DLC ANYMORE!?"

Preach it.

Why is hard drive space an issue? Just play a game, then delete it. If you want to play it again, redownload it.

download, play, beat, delete

Word.
Because Microsoft decided that we didn't need to have access to more than 32 GB at a time from external hard drives. That's the last update they need to release for Xbox 360 before they abandon it for good.

There was an interesting interview with the director on how he shoots his fight scenes and makes them as fluid as possible. It made me appreciate the movie more but probably won't rewatch since it's so much violence to take in twice for me.

I got it for a $1 from that PSN flash sale and have yet to play it. I can only imagine how the online community is right now.
It's not too hard to imagine what the online community is on PSN.

As for Live, I bought it when it went on sale a few months ago and only stopped playing to play Titanfall. Saw a lot of the same folks, but I rarely had issues getting in a game during peak hours, especially weekends. I'm really excited to see some fresh blood in the game; it's very fun and I particularly enjoy the grappling hook and the glider rig. I really missed the hook when I started playing Titanfall.

Two notes: 1) There are two or three mandatory patches. The game and the compatibility packs take up 2.7 GB of space. 2) The only leg up you'll get on your competition by playing the trial will be familiarity or having the patches downloaded first. While you get an hour, if you don't purchase it before quitting out, it doesn't save anything for you. (<---At least not in my experience)

Also, BattleBlock Theater is fantastic.

Cheese and crackers Outlast with a headset is a completely new experience. I had to pause a few times and take a breather.
Most games are. I was shocked when I first got one and just the variety of sound effects you can't even hear from the TV that add so much to the experience.

Is payday 2 online still active ?
I play online all the time. There's lots of people on. I never have trouble finding a game or getting a full room if I host.

Maybe I'm just cool like that.

If you decide to pick it up, a word of caution:

1. It's almost necessary to play with others

2. REALLY helps if your group communicates with each other during heists and in preparation

3. When you start, you're going to suck for a long, long time. The game seems impossibly difficult until you rank up, apply your skill points, and gradually learn the heists. It becomes profoundly rewarding when at last you begin to pull off jobs without alerting anyone.

Games I'll NEVER delete:

The glitched free games from that Morocco/Bosnia/Oman mishap last September.

NEVER DELETE. NEVER FORGET.
