  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.

I'm really excited about Guacamelee for XB1. I was hoping to snag $5 from GS to help pay for it but the codes were gone within the hour. Getting it for free makes it not sting as much. I already have it on PS3/Vita/Steam but haven't tried the DLC so I'm happy to try that and stream some game play.

I already bought BBT at launch and it's an awesome game so you're all in for a treat if you like platformers.

GCI had a fun trial so it's nice getting that too. I'm fine with July.

Yes a huge recommendation from me. Okay the graphics are not amazing and some of the animations are just horrendous (the bend over stealth walk is ridiculous). But it's my favourite RPG of the last gen. And yes that includes Fallout 3 or any of the Mass Effect games.

Why? Well it has incredible replayability. Great characters. And it's fun. It's way less buggy than people tell you it is. I think the problem with the game is that it is a more true "RPG" so it doesn't matter that you're a good shot and can line up a headshot, what matters are your stats for shooting and I think in the era of dumbed down RPGs people disliked that. I played through things in stealth - as that's my preferred way of playing these games, and had no issues beyond the fact that it can be difficult at times. I think if you're looking to play it like a shooter then you really need to beef up your stats to do it.

The thing I liked the most though were the Mass Effect style dialogue choices. Basically you have the choice of playing the game as one of the 3 JBs (James Bond, Jason Bourne or Jack Bauer) - I Bauer-ed through the game as much as I could and had a blast. If you like 24 you owe it to yourself to try this game out. I was expecting trash and I absolutely loved this game. It takes about 12-13 hours to beat but can be played through countless ways so it really does equate to a perfect time and you'll get various different missions based on how you play the game and who becomes your enemies or your mates. Just buy this game and play it.

 
Will definitely play Guacamelee, but the 360 offerings I likely won't bother with. They've been on sale before and I passed on them, so don't see that changing because they're free. Despite that, they seem to be good offerings. Hoping they go back to 2 new GwG per month for X1 in the future, feels lacking otherwise.

Back in the days, Microsoft thought it was a good idea to charge for something that had always been previously free: the online multiplayer. They dressed it with the 'added value' suit and people, eventually, became to accept it. Nowadays, there's the GwG program, favored by the competition. So why any subscriber can't complain about another unilateral action of Microsoft? Because benefits the player? Because it's free when it wasn't before? People should always complain, to limit somehow, even a little bit, the endless fuck of the game industry over consumers.

I'm fine with what GWG offers, but just wish I was better at reading the fine print. Everyone and their mom (including me) were not exactly thrilled that Max was going to be in July as well, but if I read the fine print I wouldn't have been dissapointed right now.

To me they are matching what Sony is offering lately when you ignore the Vita. It's not like MS has a handheld to offer free games on. Dead Space 3 and NBA2k? Meh.

They could offer some on Windows Phone. Actually they've given away plenty already on Windows Phone. I've barely touched most of them from the last batch they gave away (although that was for certain Nokia phones only).

I wouldn't mind something more consistent though like 1 free game a month rather than surprise a bunch of free games.

So, about 6 months ago when the Zombie Driver HD dev was giving out free stuff, I wrote them a long Facebook message of thanks and support.

Well... yesterday I logged into Facebook and was greeted with this:

I don't have an Xbone, but I didn't feel it'd be right to sell it, so I redeemed it anyways. That's 3 games I own now for a system I don't even have. :p

 
As much as I think Gucamelee is a good game for the XB1 game I will most likely not renew next month since I have no desire for either of the two 360 offerings.  I can use 2 week codes to keep my GOLD for MP if I want.  The two games for the 360 are not bad, just not something I want to play really.

It's MS fault for the shitty communication. Remember that whole Halo/Assassins Creed/Defense Grid fiasco? They suck at this.

 
If anyone have complaints they should hit up Microsoft's Twatters & Facebooklets social sites and let them know. Sure you might not get results but telling kinda exactly to their faces might be more productive than here. Also every time I get a survey from them and they ask what should they do, I usually tell them what I want. It took forever but using Netflix doesn't need Gold anymore, I'm pretty sure my survey went thru lol.

There are youtube vidoes how to fix it and clean it. Very easy. I just did my day one xbox and its running perfect.

Nothing but entitled 12 year olds who think they should get everything they want handed to them.

Gold is for online play and party chat, that's it. Everything else is a bonus.

You can't even use the excuse that you purchase Gold for Netflix or Hulu anymore.

You get what you pay for: a excellent online service

And the only thing I fanboy over is games in general. I love my xbox, playstation, and nintendo consoles equally.

This same thing could be applied directly to PS+ as well

 
How is Games With Gold a BONUS service? Because they only added it a year ago? It is part of the service now, hell it should've been part of it when Microsoft raised the price of Gold for $10 with no explanation why. Plus you may not sound like an "entitled brat", but you're sounding like someone who is taking their ball and going home and not wanting it played any other way.

As of June 2013, Xbox Live Gold includes multiplayer, special deals on games, and Games with Gold. They're equal parts of the service now, so nobody can claim otherwise.

It's the job of consumers to ask for more from the service and Microsoft's job to figure out what's feasible and what isn't. It's the same with every service.

Because not everyone constantly plays online and want's another use for their MSRP $60 a year and if anything it's a bullet point of features not just an "OH AND..." also this is literally like talking to a ghost in how this can't be real in not understanding things.

Anyone who purchases Gold for GwG does not have any right to bitch about not getting what they want.

That is why it is a BONUS.

I never expected any kind of convincing argument in return. I posted what was on my mind at the time and people chose to respond.

You guys are forgetting that up until the current gen(PS4/XBO) Xbox Live was a vastly superior service compared to PSN.  Which IMO justified it being a paid service.

It took 11 years for Sony to catch up to the quality of service MS has had. (counting from 11/15/02 til the current gen launch last fall)

Microsoft had so many people fooled, using the same peer to peer networking and publisher dedicated servers found free on PC and the PS3.  But the placebo effect made people think it was far superior, there are Xbots out there that still think all multiplayer on the 360 is on dedicated servers provided by Microsoft.. lol  The place where Microsoft excels is with downloads, speeds seem to be superior when downloading files from them.  Hardly worth the $10 more a year they charge, and when you factor in the superiority of the games offered by Sony, it makes Gold's higher price look like a joke.  If people couldn't find gold on sale all the time I'm sure the uproar would be far greater.

Ghost surely you realize MS did games with gold to gain new subscribers...so if these new subscribers pay for a service and it doesn't meet their expectations they have the right to be upset by it. When MS gives you dud MP only games it's hard not to feel let down by a program that was hyped as much as it was/is.

 
Last year when Games With Gold was said to be a limited time promotion I considered the games a bonus, but now that GWG is a regular part of our Xbox Live Gold it's not a bonus. It's part of what you get when you subscribe to Xbox Live Gold.

It's the same way I view the PS+ games. They're not a bonus or free. They're part of the package you are subscribing to. Saying you are paying for one part of either service and some other part is free is just making stuff up.

And I subscribe to both PS+ and Gold, and I'm happy with both of their monthly games. Next month I'm looking forward to Gotham, Battleblock, Strider, and Towerfall. There have been several GWG's that I already own, but I understand that's bound to happen. I look at them as mystery grab bags.

I am actually going to chime in and say that I did get my Gold subscriptions for the Gold discounts and added value of Games with Gold now.  As a CAG I took advantage of the time back in the day when they had 1 year cards for $30, thanks to threads on this forum I bought quite a few.  I've hardly taken advantage of online play, even though I welcome co-op play even in my profile, yet the total number of times I've played alongside others in the last 2 years can be counted on one hand.  I still welcome others here to throw me in a car through rings in Crackdown or just boost my wizard score in Pinball FX2.  If I can just put my subscriptions on pause, I would but that's not an option, I have to deal with the times my paid subscription offers me nothing.  I had already paid and I got a few discounts, which I always hope the savings essentially pay for the subscription (but it doesn't seem like it lately).  I've got so much I would spend money on if the prices were at a price I feel would be worth it, it doesn't need to be free, yet a lot of the Deals with Gold offers has not appealed to me when there's easily hundreds of content if given the proper price, I will actually pay money for.  Also, given my large backlog, it can be difficult for Games with Gold to actually offer something I did not already have.  The Games with Gold feature through July has offered me a total of 6 (Xbox 360) games I did not own beforehand: Fable 3, Rainbow 6: Vegas, World of Keflings, Shoot Many Robots, Dungeon Defenders, and Gotham City Imposters.  I didn't complain, but personally, I would have preferred more.  That's just my perspective, I do not think that is entitlement, just wish things panned out better for my own interest.

All this negativity on this thread, why can't we just focus on stuff that makes me hype ... like shaq-fu-ing Platinum making a Legend of Korra game!!  Already liking what I am hearing about the game.  It's downloadable on the 360 and I have a high probability of buying the title at its launch price (so long as it is not ludicrously high) as soon as I can get it.  I'm still hoping Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late has a 360 version if it hits the US like Persona 4: Ultimax will.  You know what, I'm feeling entitled that this thread should cater to ME!  Now I am going to complain about how most the recent offerings of posts has not.  I demand more hype for the new Korra game.

Also, I am a bit disappointed that if I want to take advantage of the new rewards offer, I will have to buy some Xbox video [not my choice method for streamed/downloaded delivery method] ... so effectively making the $5 rebate for $60 I spend not as great a return as well for me.  Especially when I do have that much MS funny monies stocked up ready to pounce (a few more 1000s of gamerscore to get for that 3% return, so maybe I'll find some Korra episode and then I may give in to high priced Otomedius Excellent DLC I've been desiring to at least get one $5 rebate ^^).
