Call me an asshole but throwing money at strippers and getting bjs from prostitutes in GTA V is too much fun. I don't wont my fun ruined, ok thanks.

Plus those hoola hoop earrings are just not doin it for me.

You want woman who kick ass in video games? There's Tomb Raider, Transistor, Beyond Good and Evil, Infamous First Light, Last of Us and a female Crusader in Diablo dammit!

Thanks Bums! Patapon 2 will now be the prize for winning the Velocity 2X challenge!
No problem, Its all about helping out this section of the community.

The only thing is I don't have an incentive to be the first to platinum it now.

I do really like Steam, I just want what I want in that regard...I can be picky but if something good comes along I might bite. How are the requirements? Low or high?
It's really well optimized, and runs great on lower end systems (a friend of mine tried it on his laptop/tablet hybrid and it barely phased it).

I always like to google my symptoms and then immediately self diagnose myself with the worst possible outcome suggested by the internet.

So it's confirmed I either have Benzodiazepines or a Corneal Ulcer.
The first sounds like a Rogue Legacy trophy.

Honor.

But I'm already pretty sure I know who's going to win this one. The one dude in the thread who's better at games like this than me.

But arent men murdered (a ton) and raped (sometimes) in video games too? Most games are played mostly by men. Most men want to see naked chicks. Its life. And I dont think anyone should go crazy threatening anyone's lives.
There's a pretty big difference in treatment for the male death scenes. I can't think of a game that had a man getting raped offhand. Nobody (not even her) is objecting to women being naked in video games, btw; the objection is the vast majority of women in games being prostitutes, rape or assault victims, and sexualized with no other purpose.

You know the two game characters I've most noticed who were women from what I've recently played? The woman from Resistance: Burning Skies and the reporter from Uncharted. Both were strong female characters that weren't treated differently from the main character, had their own motivations, and got shit done (chick in Resistance was badass; you could just hide and she'd kill all the monsters.) Compared to stuff like that it amazes me that people don't find it annoying to have women constantly being thrown into games just to be scenery or to give you annoying quests or NPC interactions to deal with.

ehh I took she was complaining about women having minor roles in games. That rape stuff etc isnt in all games.

Like she doesnt like Mario cause theres a girl who has to be saved.
Uh...no, it wasn't about women having minor roles. It was about what those roles were compared to the minor roles of male characters. She did use Mario as an example of one issue in video games, yes, that a female character is trotted out to be the goal/victim of the game but is otherwise completely lacking in characterization. She was talking about trends in gaming in how female characters are utilized (and objectified); Mario games could just as easily be about Bowser stealing Mario's favorite pipe wrench and there'd literally be no difference to the game narrative.

"Hah, Mario! Your pipe wrench is in another castle!"

Well we all know Snakey won't be winning it so today is a good day.

Hey Snakey what did you offer for a prize? That's right NOTHING so shut the fuck up.

I beat Infamous: Second Son (story, playing as good). That game is fun.

My only complaint is the lack of more checkpoints during the last boss fight. Gotta start at 3/4 of their health if you die.

Watch the video that the Anita chick is getting death threats over. It goes through a pretty long list of very high-profile games. She did a good job with it, I thought.

Alternatively here's a pic that shows a number of the games she talked about:

I can't watch the video because my baby is sleeping, but half of those games take place in time periods where women were viewed as objects. If you're playing a game and the developer is doing their job and immersing you in the story then ya, you might see some women being slapped around, having their clothes torn at, etc. that's how it was back then, and in some places that's still how it is. If she wants to complain about something complain about most fantasy and romance novels. There's ton more shit in there that she should/could be getting offended at that makes video games look like kiddy pool fun.

I just think in today's day and age there is freedom of expression and we should be able to tell the difference between fake and reality.

End of my little speel which I will speak no more of :)

But boosting trophies doesn't harm anyone.
Lol, yeah, I figured you'd say something about that. The thing about this game, is there's no need to boost it at all. You could just follow someone around and get plenty of revives/heals to complete your goal. Boosting Bio2 was a lot different, you have to put in like 20 hours of just XP grinding. Theres no penalty to other players by boosting a game like that, if they dont like it they kill your ass over and over until you find a new game or they just move to another lobby.

Last of Us is different. Those 2 boosters could completely fuck up your game. I'm not against boosting this game, or any game. But at least get 4 players to do it so you dont mess anyone else up.

Regardless of what you think of her viewpoints, or what your own opinions on the matter are, she doesn't deserve to get death threats on her and her family on a daily basis for making these videos. That's the real issue at hand here

I mostly agree with you guys, but this is a stupid conversation to have in a group of 48 males and 2 females. Not exactly a balanced enough perspective that will yield a fair conversation.
Agreed. Some of the comments I've seen already are making me shake my head.

I do want to say that people calling for more inclusivity doesn't mean we want to replace every main character with a female/gay/minority/etc. There's room for all kinds of characters and stories. We want to see more variety that reflects society more. Yes, I know video games are for entertainment. Yes, people do it to avoid real life or forget about their problems. And there are games for that. There's also room for other games and topics. I think a lot of articles are calling for more variety instead of the average white, heterosexual male leads that we see that are usually saving a damsel in distress or motivated by revenge or violence. Allowing more variety doesn't mean the games or characters you like are being discontinued.

Who said anything about death threats?

I was just saying my views on the female in games vs what I've been told is her views. I think we all were just discussing this, not the death threats.

Death threats are a completely different ballpark and are wrong completely wrong and I am in no way supporting, but don't take my disagreement with her views as supporting of these threats please.

Pretty much this. Its easy to just ignore the vids if that's the issue. Works for me.

Is anyone into MOBAs? I haven't given them a chance yet but from what I hear Gearbox's new game Battleborn is has a mode that's like a MOBA but FPS. Sounds interesting.

I think their next game after that will be a FPS strategy game where you act out the battles after moving your pieces on the board. Or a FPS match 3 game where you shoot the gems you want to get rid of :p

I like the idea of a MOBA, but I've yet to spend any serious time with one largely because I don't want to deal with the toxic communities that spring up around them. I'd be more inclined to try them out if I had friends that were into them as well, but right now nobody I know seems to care a whole lot. I am a bit amused that it seems every game coming out is now a MOBA. I guess it's the new open world game, though it doesn't seem developers are doing as great a job adapting their games to the genre.

Are there many console MOBAs? The ones that come to mind are Awesomenauts and that LOTR one that I got for free. I know they're better on PC and I'm all about console gaming so I haven't bothered.

Unless story is the focus of the game, video games tend to have threadbare, crappy stories generally, correct? Now take that point to its logical conclusion, what is the quickest and laziest way to give your hero motivation? Threaten to destroy the city, country, world, etc. What if that's not an option? The next laziest method; kidnap, threaten to kill, or do kill the hero's child / spouse. Since so many game protagonists are male its simple numbers that if a spouse is going to get threatened, killed, or kidnapped, it is going to be a female. It's my opinion so much of this comes from a place of laziness, not a place of malice.

Red Dead Redemption is also a terrible example not just due to the time period aspect but due to a MAJOR end game plot point
95% of the way through the game the MALE main character, you, are murdered and years later your son sets out to get revenge.

As you stated, I don't think devs are intentionally being malicious. It probably is just laziness or lack of creativity. I think the problem is how people are so opposed to different stories/characters outside the status quo. It's like they're personally threatened by the industry being more inclusive. I feel like there is room for both.

You see similar reactions in the comics industry. Instead of focusing on change people like to personally attack figures that are pushing for it.

I'm with Thermo and Cleaner. I want to see video games change for the better, but nobody is talking about taking your games away. That's alarmist nonsense.

Speaking of violence in games, damn Hotline Miami. I keep getting an A on this chapter after improving my score by like 5K. I checked a video online and I'm still about 2K from an A+.

You mean that games where your character has superpowers and there are dragons and magic and all kinds of crazy shit that never existed in reality should make sure they portray women accurately for the make-believe time period? That's...not a good argument. :shame:

It's also one addressed in the video.

BTW, "half" is rounding up quite a bit from 8 out of 25.

This is a good analogy IMO:

It's absolutely clear that diversity sells very well indeed.

Did we talk about how Sarkesian wanted $6,000, got $150,000 and pocketed $146,000? Youtube videos cost $150,000, you say? Yes? No? She's just doing it to stir shit up.

That said, the morons threatening her have taken a Snakey harrasement way of doing things, which is wrong.

I didn't understand a single thing of this.

Also CAG fantasy football talk

isn't the origin of this Gif incredibly sad? Like it was a place that was so flooded that dogs couldn't find a place to sleep so they were getting so exhausted they would pass out and drown? #BuzzKillington
