2014 Thrift Store Thread - Post your finds here!

Picked up this from Savers today for $7.99

LJllGEV.jpg

Last one sold on ebay for $105. Needless to say quite happy with it. Think I'll keep it for now, old boomboxes intrigue me.

Not a huge find, but I dropped by the Fleatique down the street yesterday and picked up a brand new and sealed Venture Brother Henchman 24 figure for $3.50.  From what I can find, this one along with Henchman 21 were SDCC exclusives.  I'm not a huge Venture Bros fan, but it's still pretty cool.

I've bought a couple ghetto blasters back when savers had decent prices.

Nice finds on the SDCC henchmen!

Today I ran into SAVERS and saw the Zelda GC collectors disc for $49.99.

I saw a mario party 7 case marked "case only" $1.99. The person who grabbed the games for me said "Who would want an empty case?" I said "someone like me who has the game, but not case!" :) She said "I'll mark it down to 50 cents for you."

This is probably the first time anyone has marked stuff down for me at savers. Granted she knows me and I've spent thousands of dollars there, but still they rarely mark something down that has a preprinted label on it.

My savers both still have great prices. Like i showed earlier got megaman x2 for only 4.99

i found 2 old train sets this morning both starter type sets

a old  american flyer set

and marklin 2922 set

both where complete but just the marklin in the  orginal box trying to get a value on them. not a train collector trying to see if its gona be a good flip paid $15

Not a bad idea to check all the game cases.  I had the same situation a few weeks ago except it went against me; found a Silent Hill PS1 case at GW just to find Splinter Cell in the case.  Spent a half hour looking before finally giving up.

I routinely check all PS2 and GCN games I find for not only other games nested inside, but also for the off chance of a memory card inside (found a few PS2 ones that way, but so far no dice for GCN).

In my experience the PS1 games have had the greatest ratio of the games not matching the case, though its usually a Madden 97 instead of 98 kind of scenario.

Stopped by GW and picked this up for $3.99 ($8.99 - $5 in rewards points)

[attachment=8568:Animal.jpg]

Also picked up these random Genesis/Master System games for $3.99 each.

Shining Force is anything but random, especially if CIB. Best Genesis game I've ever found in the wild was SoR II (and that isn't saying much).
Huh. Thanks for the info. Had no idea. Unfortunately it was missing the manual. My GW doesn't seem to get older games in on the regular so I scooped them up without knowing much about them. Interestingly enough, that game was there for 6 days before I purchased it according to the price tag.

Found a copy of Pokemon Colosseum (box but no manual) for $2 a couple days ago, no bonus disc either, still an amazing find from that store.

Not a huge find, but I found the original Star Wars Trilogy 4 DVD set for .99 today.  I'm guessing whoever priced it assumed it was a VHS  because of the big box.  All 4 discs are mint.

This one I'm keeping, since I sold my blu ray set last year (which I regret doing).  This will tide me over until I can find a killer deal on a new BD set.

That would be a big find for me at that price, I was happy about finding a limited edition DVD of A New Hope for $3, so the whole DVD trilogy for a buck is awesome.

Was it the limited edition with the original release on a second disc? Not sure if they sold them in a bundle.

I found a Guitar Hero World Tour X360 Guitar for $2 at Goodwill. Which is pretty surprising since they always price them at $10-$15 at all the Goodwills near me.

I think he's talking about the 4 disk set with the three movies and one special features disk. Silver or gold depending on widescreen or full screen.

Very nice for the price!

This. Silver Widescreen boxed set.

The more I think about it, it is a pretty big find. I've been spoiled by goodwill in the past, so my bar was still set high.

Got a PSP 1000 with case 1gig card and 4 UMD games (Burnout, GTA LCS, Tomb Raider Annerversary, and Codedarms) for $11.XX today at a local thrift store. Not sure if it works yet cus I don't have a charger but still.

Had a good morning of finds at my trusty GW.

Picked up:

  • Black N64 with cables, two controllers and Mario Kart for $13.
  • Bowsers Inside Story for $3
  • Brother Pacesetter ULT-2001 programmable sewing machine for $15.
About the sewing machine, this is a fully programmable machine with a fricking floppy drive in it, so it's clearly old.  2001 - 2003 I believe is the range they were made.  From what I can find about it, the MSRP was $4000!!  These things are still selling for 400+ on eBay.  Unfortunately, I don't know if it works, but I'm going to have my fiance's mom (who is a crafter/seamstress/etc) check it out.  Even for parts, it should turn a tidy profit.

picked up an orange and white gun for xbox 360 at Goodwill this morning for $1.97... if i had to guess it is from a Cabela's game

post pic later..

would it have had a sensor?

I could be wrong, but it might be an embroidery machine. If it has a needle see if it is extra thick. I can't think of another reason why you would need a disc drive...

It didn't come with a sensor.

EDIT: I just checked and the xbox 360 cabelas guns came with a sensor.

Yeah, it's a sewing/embroidery machine. It's pretty awesome, touch screen and stuff too.

that blows

thanks though

guess my son has a new toy gun lol
The 360 did have one that used the kinect instead of the wii-like sensor bar that came with Hunting Party (?). That gun has little arms that come off of the sides that act as sensors for the Kinect to track.

Yeah those can get pretty pricey. If you ever visit the sewing machine section at Jo-Ann's (or other such craft store), it's like a car dealership there. Plenty of display models and staff on hand to make the sale.

I might swing by tomorrow and see if i can find the sensor laying around somewhere... id like to try it but not at the cost of buying it on ebay or anything

I just picked up a Gameboy Advance SP(ags-101) for $15 and a new/sealed GoW Marcus Fenix(player select neca)(seems to be going for $30-$45 on ebay) for $4 at my local GW.

Went on the first game hunting trip in a long time, and scored big at the Goodwills.

What is it with you and the insulators? Do you just like the look of them?
I started noticing these in shops and on people's property. They are a cheap glass collectable and I do like the look of them. They are a cool piece of Americana you can get cheap. They don't have much value that I am aware of. I only have 2, purchased at $3 or cheaper. My price point seems to be $4 on these. The going price in shops is $8 to ?. I have them on a sweet chess board my Uncle made. I cleared the family pictures off the board that doubles as a tabletop. If I find more I would like to set them up as giant pawns on the board. Bad lighting in the pic but the board my Uncle made is awesome.

My grandparents have land right next to a set of railroad tracks and I find a ton of them just sitting down by the tracks. Most are in pretty good shape. I've taken a couple over the years, they also double as decent bookends.
I was thinking the same thing on the bookends.

Added bonus pic of the marble dish that sits on the board. These are the Marbles my daughter deems cool and different for display. We have them in a glass candy dish. I have marbles in a few glass containers around the house.

Wow all the Goodwills around me decided to price up all the video games from $2 to $7-8(games like Madden 98 PS1,and Jampack Demos). I guess I won't be buying games there until they drop the price again. I did find 4 Original Xbox Controllers for $2 ea. and 2 PS2 Controllers for $1.50 ea.

Nothing at my Goodwill stores last night and today, but I found stuffs that might interests some local Cagers. I tried asking the manager there to part out Super Smash Bros and MarioKart 64 but mananger said "Nope" :( .

You are right about that. I went to get a part for my grandma's machine and found out those ladies selling the machines aren't actually Jo-Ann employees, they work for the machine seller. The best part was, instead of selling her the part, they got her to buy a new machine for almost as much as I paid for my car.

How much money do these things cost?

I have no need for a sewing machine but just curious as it seems we are talking over $1000 here for a sewing machine. Mind blowing to me unless you own a business that requires a sewing machine of that caliber.

Like I said, the one I picked up at GW MSRP'ed for $4000 back in 2001.

And good news/bad news on my end. I had my fiance's mom test it out and she asked if she could have it, being giddy like a school girl. I couldn't say no, considering all she's done to help us in the past. So, while I got a killer deal and stood to make $500+ on the machine, no big payday for me this time. Oh well, at least my future M-I-L clearly loves me now.

You made the right choice. Cash is nice but getting in good with the future in-laws will be much more beneficial.

All joking aside, my grandma paid over $10,000 for her machine. It does everything, from sewing to embroidering, it is all programmable, I think she has the thing hooked up to her computer, and she makes curtains, quilts, pretty much everything imaginable. She only got it because she wore her old one out, and it was probably 20 years old.

It's actually pretty incredible what those things cost, for what they are. Those high end ones come with maintenance plans, and stuff just like a car, and they will last a long time.

If sewing is your thing, that is the kind of equipment you own.

Doesnt that suck? Knowing that they didnt pay a penny for that stuff and they refused a sale? So much for being a "nonprofit" company amirite?!

Add to that the fact that Goodwill has one of the weakest mission statements of any "non-profit" out there: to provide jobs. Which is literally something every business provides.

They say it is to provide jobs to the disabled, but I've not encountered a single Goodwill employee that looked like they couldn't work any other retail job.

Yesterday, I went to 3 goodwills.

-wired white xbox 360 guitar hero guitar-$3
-wireless world tour Xbox 360 guitar-$3
-Futurama vol 4-$5
-Star Wars monopoly-$2.50(after coupon)
-nerf longshot blue cs-6 -$5
-gameboy advance -$7.50(after coupon)
-Def Jam Fight for NY(xbox)(no manual)-$2

I haven't been going to GW much lately, so these finds are from a couple of weeks ago on a decent trip. Glee, Star Wars and the Wii RB Guitar dongle were $3 each, and the three controllers were $2 each.  The red button Genesis ones cleaned up nicely, but the Plat GCN one was probably the worst physical and cosmetic shape I've seen, but hey, it works.

The Galaxy puzzle I picked up at Kohl's for about $1.50 after a $10 off coupon, probably my favorite of the USAopoly Mario puzzles.

Actually, the janitorial staff at my office are Goodwill employees. All of the people have some problems, some worse than others. Goodwill also provided training for them, and generally speaking I think they all do a pretty decent job. They are good people and they are happy to be there. I like them better than the people I work with, the Goodwill Gang is into my kind of stuff--games, comics, wrestling, and heavy metal. The old ladies I work with are into internet dating and complaining.

I'm not sure about the stores, but one guy we used to work with transferred to a store and he does stock work in the back.
