Extreme YMMV: TRU Xbox One Games $0.02

Last night during my shift at TRU my manager had a bunch of Xbox One launch games pulled aside to "look into" For whatever reason the vanilla versions of

Ryse

Dead Rising 3

Forza 5

are ringing up for $0.02 in the system. He obviously wouldn't let me buy them, and I'm not sure if its a glitch in our system or if its company wide. Their website still lists these titles for their original or sale price.

Damn, my order arrived today. Now, before I get called out as an el Hoardo, I wasn't sure if any of the copies they'd send out would be the vanilla ones, so I figured I'd increase my odds and (ahem)...ordered the 5 max of each game allowed. All of them came vanilla. Now to plan out where and how to perform the return/rebuy...

If I can get them adjusted to $.02 each, not quite as sweet as the penny games I scored a couple years back when amazon went crazy a couple of times, but not too bad.
Send me out one of each? haha

Edit: Read that wrong, if it works out, I'll buy one of each off of you.

Hopefully you know someone at a store that is willing to do this for you. I believe you will have a very hard time otherwise.

Yeah, I figure my odds are slim, but Toys R Us has been pretty kind to me of late so who knows.  Mainly just doing it for shits n giggles cuz I'll be stopping by there this weekend anyway.   Have no real plans to try for all 15/5 of each, but if I can get a copy of each for the dream price, I'll be more than content.

Do you have a strategy? For instance, I don't think walking in and saying "I heard these were 2 cents." is going to work. Does the possibility that they are already out of the system exist?

Yeah - I give that a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of working. That's just a dumbassed way to tie up a bunch of your money for a couple of weeks.

Tell them you want to price adjust these 3 games and maybe buy a few more things to buffer the price drop. Only do 1 of each game.

What r the odds that Toys R Us would get more of the old copies? Or maybe they have some in the back? I'd like to go out hunting again

Getting more? None. In the back. Slim. Unless the manager never pulled them to begin with, you're not going to see them since they aren't supposed to sell them.

So I gifted one of my DR3s, the other 3 games I found all sold today.

Got a little over 70 pre fees and shipping for 2 copies of Ryse and 1 DR3. So a little over 50 profit, which should net me NBA 2k15 and TLOU for my new PS4

Cool.

I couldn't get Ryse for 2 cents so I ended up buying it for around $14. Not a big fan of it.

Anyone want Ryse for Forza 5?
Yeah, as someone who bought it when it first came out, I probably wouldn't seek it out (even for .02) ... but others seemed to greatly enjoy it. Forza is a better game, even if it lacks the content of its predecessors ... Ryse felt like a tech demo they stretched into a full game.

I plan on scanning the UPCs on the game boxes (via pics on my phone) in store prior to attempting to get a set magically adjusted, in order to verify they are still in the system (and still ringing up at $.02. Strategy, well I'll play it by ear and see what happens, but I have a few other returns to make that I may be able to confuse them enough to let a batch (or five) slide through the cracks. Return/rebuys and adjustments during the summer clearance and various things I've bought there over the past few months were always successful, although of course that didn't involve such insane ranges. I'll try sometime this weekend or early next week.

Yeah - I give that a 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% chance of working. That's just a dumbassed way to tie up a bunch of your money for a couple of weeks.
Meh, it's just a $750 ish charge on a credit card for which I've never come close to hitting the max on, that will be refunded/credited shortly one way or another. Thankfully I do well enough/am blessed enough that this really wouldn't amount to shit for me, so to speak, even if 99.999% of that bill wasn't going to get refunded at best, or 100% at worst. $.02 a game is too tempting an opportunity, slim as it may be, to take, particularly when the cost is really nothing.

As JFK said "Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly". Or "fortune favors the bold", take your pick of quotes found on inspirational/motivational posters...

I found none of these. Huge stack of the Legendary/GOTY/Read Dead Rising Redemption editions, but no standard copies to be found. I checked through the entire stack of them. Manager or reseller must have swiped the copies.

Was shut down by the idiot manager at McAllen tx location. That short ugly wanna be male old lady manager always has a stick up her ass.

I called ahead to this store, i know already about don't call but I didn't want to waste time and gas as I was on the way to brownsville...

Anyway I stated I was a collector and wanted those three games without any special stuff like apocalypse edition, game of the year edition etc. just the regular version of the game as i am a collector lol.

They said they already pulled all those and zeroed them out in the computer, they kept using the term 'bined'

SUCCESS!

Just took my stack of 15 games to the ghetto-adjacent/transitional TRU  down La Cienega by the 10 freeway, and walked in with 5 copies (2 each DR3 and Ryse and 1 copy of Forza 5) with my plan being to tell them that my online order overcharged me as it only took 30% off of 3 of the 15 games, hoping that they would ring the online receipt first then the games and see that it "adjusted" them down to $.02 each as part of their ongoing B1G1 30% off sale.

Instead, the CSR lady scanned the games, was obviously confused by the $.02 price coming up, meanwhile I'm thinking "shit this is going to be a fail..." so I told her "hmmm, those are the old versions of the games there are newer editions, that's probably why they're on sale so cheap now."  She said "yeah lemme check the date, oh yes these are from 2013.  They're last year's versions..."

So she scanned the receipt and I got 99.99% of the charge refunded on that set.  Walk to my car, put them and the new receipt inside and grab the other ten and take them in asking if I can get the other ten adjusted and she says sure.  For some odd reason part of that return was in the form of a TRU giftcard (although I didn't use any giftcard for the original purchase...and I was also refunded more to my card than I was originally charged).

Total original purchase was $768.29 for the 15 games, refunded $773.19 to my credit card PLUS an additional $27.55 on a TRU gift card.  So TRU paid my $32.45 to take those 15 games.  Oh and about half of them rang up at $.01 because of the B1G130% off sale going on, flol.  And as a final denouement, there were 1 each copies of the regular Ryse and regular Dead Rising 3 so I bought them (padded that purchase with 1 each of the Legendary version and Apocalypse version of the same games).

I applaud you for that score. If you don't know what to do with all those copies, I'll gladly take a copy of Forza

Lol damn ultimate score. Good job!

I went back to one of my Toys R Us the other day, and the dude knew about it and said the manager took them off the shelf a while ago. Oh well, still did pretty good.

Lmao, I still can't believe the online thing worked, that's awesome.

Those receipts look photoshopped to me.
Caught me, you're right. Sorry guys, I don't really have any copies - those are all photoshopped receipts and photoshopped games. Same with the giant Santa I got on clearance to upgrade our old Santa that was capped in a drive by shooting:

Another true* story...garbage man stopped the truck, got out, took headshot Santa out of the trash and put him in the cab riding shotgun with him:

*Headshot Santa did not actually suffer a headshot, rather a faceplant into reinforced concrete. Rest of true story is true though.

You almost fooled me but I'm pretty observant.

Oh and, you guys that have locations nearby *DO* realize these are still available for order online, right? Fortune truly DOES favor the bold...I've put in another order of 15...

Wait, you didn't detect my sarcasm? Next time you're in L.A. I'll show you the receipts in person. Definitely your memory is fuck ed up...especially if you think all those pics I just took...today...were floating around the web a year ago. As for photoshopping, flol, outside of opening 'em up in MSPaint to remove personal details to protect the innocent/guilty parties, those are straight from my phone to photobucket.

LMAO I got to check my local Toys R' US, on Monday, but damn nice, I love that you said a couple posts that you weren't el Hoardo :D/

You don't realize who you are arguing with, do you?

Everywhere around me in Annapolis has gotten rid of them both.

Anybody who purchased multiples willing to ship?

Don't think I'd have the same success story if I ordered online and tried returning them to get the price adjusted. But congrats on doing so. You showed all of us. :p

That's an awesome score but why is the dude who claims $750 is pocket change going super out of their way and taking such a risk to score cheap year old launch games

Mark me as some who though this had 0 chance of working. I really am impressed that you got it done, but don't you think doing another 15 is pushing it? Even if the return goes through and you get another $500 back I would be worried about a huge red flag being raised for return fraud.

That's just me, though. And don't get me wrong, if I had a TRU close to me (nearest is 100 miles) Id try this too, so no moral judgement at all from me.

Just got a xbox one, so I guess ill check still today if they acctually got these games out. I don't have a TRU close but will be near one today. Doing major shopping today, searching for amiibos and games alike.

If you succeed again would you be willing to sell me one of each?

Edit: Just put in an order for 1 of each. What did you say to get it adjusted?

They will most likelly not do an adjustment. He just got very lucky, and probably got a seasonal employee who doesn't care about their job. This is very, very YMMV.

I was in your neck of the woods yesterday karkyco, damn American Girl dolls. People still drive like shit in LA, almost thought I was in TJ.
