PlayStation 4 - General Discussion Thread

Speaking of themes, the ones up on the store are fuckin awful and I cant believe Sony is asking us to pay for them, you cant even preview what the hell you're buying.
This. 100%.

I recently bought one but had to go to youtube to look them up. Had to pass on a few because there were no demos but at least it's something...

Soooo much negativity surrounding The Order, damn. Im still excited to play it day one but Im guessing we'll see a lot of lukewarm reviews come Thursday when the embargo lifts. I hope Im wrong.

Eh, its okay. I still prefer the 20th anniversary one. Speaking of themes, the ones up on the store are fuckin awful and I cant believe Sony is asking us to pay for them, you cant even preview what the hell you're buying. I wish they would hurry up and let us use custom ones already. Also, I'm not feelin the new CAG layout.
One of the recent themes they put out has a preview video so hopefully that becomes the norm. I think the problem lies with other developers releasing half-ass themes just to get some extra cash in their pockets.

I'm not particularly enjoying the new CAG layout either. My mobile time on the website has been cut down significantly because the mobile site is terrible.

i think people were putting way too much stock into the order. it has looked like, since day 1, a run of the mill 3rd person shooter. i personally would have been shocked if it was Uncharted quality, especially considering the dev did nothing but ports before this game.

that being said, the graphics are great and the setting seems really cool. so if they do make a sequel, hopefully they learn from their mistake and expand on what could be a really good IP

I whole-heartedly agree with this, and had my expectations set as such.

I, personally, am still looking forward to playing it over the weekend and I'm sure I'll enjoy it just fine.

I also look forward to playing it and now that the reviews are out and the game is what I expected it to be originally and that is a really pretty game with a great story, but have bland and dull gameplay mechanics. I'll rent this one and use the money I would have spent to purchase this on Kirby for the Wiii U instead.

I like the idea of a rental that I can actually get through in a couple of days though.

Im not too worried. I dont mind QTEs depending on how they are implemented (hooray for Asuras Wrath!), and the shooting sounds solid, just nothing that separates it from anything else. Add to it a beautiful setting that is very underused in games and a short one I dont have to get bogged down in: Im still interested in checking it out.

If your game is only 5 hours long, I expect it to either have great gameplay or a great story to be purchased at the full $60. I do hope the developer do get another chance though. Reminds me of the jump Assassin's Creed made to Assassin's Creed 2. Hopefully Ready at Dawn can do the same if given another chance. I still want to try it later on.

I think the whole 5 hour thing was debunked and was basically a speed-run... Actual gameplay time looks like it should clock in around 8-10 hours for a normal person(even more for a completionist), and that's fine with me.

Rent it like me, Family Video will be like $7 - $8 for a week long rental. That sounds like more than enough time to beat the game a few times. Even if the game was getting good review scores I couldn't justify paying full price for it due to the length and lack of replay.

I guess that is good but I was really hoping for a game with a great story. If a game can deliver a great story and I am blown away by it, the length of the game does not really mater to me at all.

But again, assuming since you said the 5 hour thing again... you didn't read the reviews. The positives from every review, beautiful game, with a good story, good characters, and good voice actors... negatives, bland gameplay, bad pacing between gameplay and story, and no replayability.

So if you are saying you just want a good story this has it.

The 5 hour thing is not what's really my problem. I play games mostly for the story and the few reviews I have read so far said that story is a mess and the combat is bland and repetitive.

The time thing really seems to be everywhere, so Im not positive how people are playing it. I saw one review say they finishedbit between 7-8 hours, then I see Jeff Geratman say he finished it in 5 1/2.

Sooooo...for a game thats as linear as they say with not much gameplay, not sure why or how there could be discrepancies of a few hours.

I think some people like to take there time and search around. I am that type of person.

The Order reviews are lot worse than expected.

Bloodborne better set the world on fire or MS doesn't look so bad for having a dry start for the year.

It doesn't matter what company you are, a mediocre game is a lot better than having no games coming out at all.

I'm still hyped for The Order since everything I've seen about it makes it look fantastic. I'm not bothered by the review scores anymore because I just don't listen to reviewers anymore. A lot of games they give poor reviews for I have ended up playing and really liking and a lot of really broken/buggy games ended up getting solid 8's and 9's which makes it kind of hard to trust their opinions.

I'll be playing on the hardest difficulty without Auto-Aim and I expect that'll take me around 8-10 hours given other people's impressions of the game.

I feel like Sony missed a huge opportunity here, they had such a great premise/setting and they dropped the ball it seems. Ah well, hopefully Bloodborne delivers.

A lot of people are also comparing this the Assassin's Creed 1, more of a tech demo of what the series could be, I bet the sequel finally gets it right.

Bloodborne should as it is coming from a team that has already made several iterations and now get to use the power of the new system.

i'll get around to the order eventually.  Nothing I'm super excited about playing until the fall when Uncharted 4/Tomb Raider/Halo 5 all launch hopefully.  Oh and people stop complaining about 5 hour long games.  They are pretty much the perfect length game to play in 3 sittings without getting bored. Just wish they would charge less money for them.

This.

I like to check reviews to get an idea of how other people like games, but I eventually just try anything that looks interesting to me as I've also found that I sometimes like games that were universally panned... Dark Void, Wet & Bionic Commando(2009) are just a few examples of games that I, with realistic expectations in mind, found out that I thoroughly enjoyed while reviewers and the majority of the public shit all over them.

Well the Order is AAA exclusive while Screamride is as close to an indie game you'll get.  If Screamride disappoints, no one will really notice considering the game isn't getting any coverage as is.

All were left with is people justifying the Order is still a noteworthy exclusive.

It's not, like many people have said it is drawing exact comparisons to Ryse. Nice tech demo exclusive that shows the capabilities of each machine... but lacking in everything else.

Pretty much, I'm not really getting caught up on the shitstrom especially on GAF. I still want to play the game once I get a PS4.

frontier games has been around since 1993 and have a ton of games under their belt. thats not even close to being an indie dev.
It's an analogy, didn't say they were. It's just not a game an overwhelming of Xbox owners are looking forward too.

Read some more reviews and It's weird. Some place said that the story is a mess and others said that the characters and story is great.

Sony exclusives have had a rough go in regards to reviews. I think they had some of the best exclusives last gen and I hope the can get things back on track with Bloodborne. Its flipped now with Sony having the best selling console but MS has the best exclusives so far.

I dont know. You think Sony will give RAD another chance after this?

because as we all know, metacritic is the be all end all of everything
Metacritic plays a big role in a games sales and hype, thats why we see so many release day embargoes. The Order isnt even out yet and its already DOA for many. Its unfortunate but that's how it is.

I decided that I'll pick up my preorder, and give The Order a chance. It could be like Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. Most critics didn't really liked both of them but I did managed to enjoy them.

Good on ya.

I mean, at worst you turn around and trade it back in for $40 and you're out $20. Which, If you think about it, even if you waited for it to hit $20 and picked it up the trade values would have tanked and it'd be worthless.

So in a strange way it's kinda the same thing. lol

Christ, the game hasn't even officially launched and you're already damning it. For all we know it could end up selling really well regardless of the mixed reviews.

I can think of quite a few games that did well on Metacritic, but sold horribly and never had a lot of hype to them. I can't believe you're saying Metacritic could damage the sales of a game.

My copy of the Order came in early, so I played through the first 3 chapters tonight.  I will say it is best served as a quick play and trade, but I like it so far.

It could and will. I read a lot of posts about people canceling their pre-orders due to the low score. I for one hope it sells well since I think RAD deserve another shot.

Xbox One hasnt had many great exclusives so far either. Sunset Overdrive is really their best one so far
Titanfall, DR3, and FH2 are great exclusives.

Meh I bought an x of one sunset overdrive bundle and love the idea of the game more than the actual game play. I haven't even finished it yet. Just felt like I'm grinding around and firing my gun hoping I get lucky and hit something.

I wasn't really a big fan of Sunset.

I got my Order order coming today so I'll play it, and see how I feel. I just wonder if all these reviews are correct.
