I'm just now getting a Vita from having a 3DS for years. You always hear that other companies do their consoles and online better than Nintendo, but looking into it Sony still has its share of problems. The systems are technically region free, but digital games are restricted to each region in a weird way. And the 3DS uses SD cards instead of some exclusive, expensive as hell card. Not to mention that Nintendo would never abandon their system.
Congratulations on purchasing a Vita.

Did you by chance pick up Monpiece in the last PSN sale? I am dying for someone to play online with me.

Whoa! This looks kinda cool. Is game available in the US?

Edit: It looks to be only available digitally for $30. Has it been any cheaper? I would totally buy and play this but not sure for $30.

Still waiting for Amazon to ship our Resistance Vita orders!

Currently playing Freedom Wars from a Gamefly rental. Loving the hell outta it. I feel bad about missing it during the $15 Gamestop sale now :(

So looking out for another deal on it.

It's not that great of a game. I got it from Target for $5. Keep playing Freedom Wars.

BBY had it for that price too...and then there was GCU on top of that. So far it's possibly one of the closer Monster Hunter experiences you can have on the Vita. Ragnarok Odyssey isn't bad but from what I've played of the two I'd prefer Freedom Wars.

I'm not sure I'd say that. I enjoy it, but it really doesn't come very close to feeling like MonHun—it's much more directed, much plot heavier, much more party based even in single player, and a little depressing in tone (as opposed to MonHun's constant upbeat atmosphere, even when crap hits the fan). I'm not too far in, but it also feels like there's significantly less variety, and combat is more arena based—one of the hallmarks of MonHun, compared to many of its clones, is traversing a large (if broken-up), living environment. It's also has much less focus on loot-farming (thank goodness).

I like them both, but they really don't feel that similar to me. If Monster Hunter is the responsible adult, enjoying life and all it has to offer, but still having to deal with the doldrums of the daily grind, then Freedom Wars is its young adolescent brother, with less patience and a bit of a chuunibyou complex who writes obvious poetry about the injustices of society.

And Soul Sacrifice is the goth middle child who wants everything now and believes all life is suffering.

I find I actually like the plot bits in FW. The oppressive feeling, the way you're punished for doing what you want and have to restrict yourself.

EDIT: The lack of english voice over work actually seems to reinforce the dystopian feeling. You don't even understand what's being said half the time. And the comm messages as you're roaming...

The game kind of reminds me of armored core in some ways.

Freedom Wars is heavily material farming past a certain point (aka Code 8).

I reached 800k and had hit a huge wall because i was CODE6.

so I burned through story and started doing endgame missions. After you 'evolve' your weapons, you gotta upgrade them from level 1 all over again, and they all require endgame materials. So yeah, it's pretty grindy.

Also, Barbara's Easy Blaster is easily the most OP gun in this game.

I stopped playing at around 500k years, just because I was a little screwed with my available time due to work/classes. The game's seriously enjoyable though.

I have 22 hours in Monpiece so far and I am not bored yet. The moe/ecchi stuff is probably the biggest barrier for most, because the gameplay is solid. The story isn't anything to write home about, but also doesn't get in the way of the gameplay. My biggest issue so far is that I would like to play online to get some of the rarer items, but they use a really idiotic online system that makes it impossible to find random matches. The rubbing minigame is also really frustrating and tiring until you figure it out.

Speaking of, if anyone would be interested in playing online, please drop me a PM on here or the PSN.

I would if I could get the game for $6 like everyone else! :)

Storage costs aside, physical games on a portable device doesn't make sense to me and my usage habits. I mean, I'd feel weird carrying around a SD card for each game I played on my phone. I want as portable as portable can get. I do have a 64GB card for my PSTV, though, so I have plenty of room for what I own.
Nah man, I've been portable since the Gameboy. Handheld gaming just isn't the same without a pocket full of little plastic cases with games in.

I think that's a key difference.

I do have a card case that holds all my games for the occasional big trip. But on your average day, I only play my Vita in the comfort of my home.

Child of Light DLC is no great shakes. Mostly it's different color dresses and p2w extr crystals you get in the game anyway. Even the 'best' one is basically find 5 not very well hid body parts to put humpty dumpty back together. Okay you have a new Golem part member that has no story after that. The end.
Which is great for me since I'm not spending money on dlc just to have a complete game.

My Vita pouch holds four cards. With one in the chamber that's five. For me that's plenty even for flights to Asia.
Correction: Plenty for the vita's battery life, which won't get you anywhere near Asia...at least if you, you know, aren't departing from Asia to begin with.

i have the official vita battery that was on sale for $20. That brings in another three hours. i often try to grab four hours of sleep, then six (or five, i haven't timed myself) hours vita time, the rest is for eating and staring blankly out the window like a boss.

Many new aircraft models have outlets for every seat, in which case i go nuts with the vita and Surface PRO.

I think I read the new 3DS XL has worse battery life than the previous 3DS XL as well.
I bet it's because most people had turned off the 3D, and now that Nintendo has finally made 3D worth using.. it's eating the battery life.

Not saying the 3DS has bad battery life.. probably just a little less than my Vita.

100% acceptable imo. it's not like it lasts for only 2 hours..

my new 3DS XL... has less better life than my Vita. At least so far.
My original 3DS XL usually gets a few hours more than my vita (although I mostly play in 2D with occasional 3D). Spirit Camera ran my XL down in about 3 hours...but that's an AR game that uses both cameras and gyroscopic controls and everything at once pretty much continuously...so kind of an exception. The new XL probably has worse battery life due to the face tracking 3D feature and all.

The 3DS eats battery life like no tomorrow while on standby. So less battery life is definitely not a good thing.

My 3DS always has less battery life than my vita, because it's always losing power while on standby. I always keep my handhelds on standby instead of shutting them off before because that's part of their advantage in being pickup and play. The 3DS makes me rue this habit of mine.

Seemed about the same to me, but I switched back to my old XL w/CPP for MH4U after a few days anyway. Can't stand that nub. I'll take better controls in exchange for the performance hit (which is pretty significant, unfortunately).

Do you have a slim or did you just open up your original vita (does that void the warranty on the original system?)? Sounds like a worthwhile upgrade, at any rate. The battery life has always been one of my biggest complaints about the vita (especially playing an rpg like Persona 4 Golden where I might pull a marathon session on a day off and have to either sit by an outlet or stop playing after 3 hours or so to let my vita charge for 2 or 3).

They don't even need to be new, just have (relatively) new seats. Most transcontinental flights have outlets these days. I've even flown national flights that had outlets for coach recently, which is useful since my laptop's battery is five years old and can hold about half an hour of charge these days.

should have been more clear, I mean those portable batteries, you do not have to open the Vita. If you still can't find it I will post link once I get in front my PC.

Yea. My 3DS XL with the wi-fi on gets like a day on standby before the red light. Maybe 4-5 days with wi-fi off. I left my Vita unplugged for like 2 weeks, and it showed full when I woke it up.

What I do NOT like about the 3DS.. I have zero use for the pedometer function. Give me the option to turn it off.

That right there will extend the battery life. I have been taking the 3DS with me to work, and just sitting in my backpack and just being in there while I drive... registers "steps" that I have taken. Um.. no.

I'd say i actually take maybe 50ish steps total *with* the 3DS in hand etc... but it registers over 300-400+ a day.

Yeah, probably doesn't take that much away from the battery life.. but still.

and yeah my Vita has been left at home for a week while I was out of town, 10 minutes out of town I realized I forgot it  fuck

Come back, and still full charge.

This is what he's talking about

I have an Anker 13000mah battery I use for other stuff, charges the Vita if needed.

Not sure how big the PS one is.
Ah, k...basically an external power brick, then. Didn't even know that Sony made an official one. Might be worth grabbing for future trips, etc. Thanks for the info, guys!

I recommended it. I charge my smartphone, or Vita with it. I bought it for $2 when my Sony store closed last year.

I don't know why the price has jumped, I got it for $15 at about Christmas time.

I was able to play my Vita on a 7+ hour flight and it still showed full battery.  I then played it for a few more hours and still had a chunk left before I made it to a power outlet.  It also makes the Vita much more comfortable to hold.

I have the non powered version, it makes a HUGE difference in comfort. Almost picked up the powered version, but I figure i have a power pack already and I generally don't take the Vita out of the house. And when I do I have the ability to charge all around me. (car/wall/battery)

Sucks that you have to take it off to change any game though.

My PlayStation TV is really neat. I only wish that Sony had pulled a PSP Go, and put 32gb of memory on it, instead of 1gb. It doesn't seem to make sense that they could have done that so cheaply a few years ago, and now 32gb costs way more.

nothing to do with cost it cause if it came with 32gb that more then enough for a lot using the ps tv that those people wouldn't feel the need to spend more money on a additional card

Does anyone know where I could find a USB cable for the original vita?
Try these out. They seem to have the highest rating on Amazon.

And let Sony lose like $100 on those slower-than-MicroSD proprietary memory?

I would have rather paid an extra $50 to $100 to have had an 32gb drive in the PlayStation TV, with the option of buying another 32gb card, than paying $100 for a 64gb card from Japan.

I second the recommendation for this device -- i have the Sony brand power brick (it's small -- for reference it fits nicely in my headphone case (in the 'U' of the headphones) and love it. Really makes flights significantly easier.

That Vita portable charger is amazing Other than requiring the Vita 1000 cable to charge it. Fortunately I had a second one of those for some reason when I went to the slim.
