My wife's complaints are always about how shitty the government is. Some examples:
- My wife's using an old version of Access instead of a SQL database because the head of the IT department doesn't know how to install MySQL. This is literally the reason why she's been stuck using a shitty local Access implementation for years instead of being able to have a server-hosted database she can build a web interface for.
- The previous commissioner for the Department of Children Services resigned the night before she was going to go up against an investigative panel to explain why she had been refusing to release public documents related to a high number of foster deaths.
- Foster parents and trainers and such have to fill out surveys for a lot of different things. The surveys are subcontracted out rather than having state employees administer them. The contract with the company that manages them was written without any deadlines or penalties in place. Potential foster parents can write shit like "I'll beat the gay out of any kids in my house" and then the company doesn't send the survey to the state for a year or more, so nobody sees it until there are already foster kids in that home.
Fun stuff like that. The job benefits are good, pay is decent (though dealing with shitty old Access isn't a resume-builder), but the problems she has are more around the stupidity of the politics and management of the office.
