Shot my first turkey today. Scared everyone in the frozen food section.
Now back to your regularly scheduled lackluster steam deals.

This is completely off topic, but you guys are the cheapest asses I know who are likely to know about this kind of thing, so here goes.

What would you guys say a good price on a high quality (but not super videophile crazy quality) blu-ray player is? And what are your feelings about Sony players?
sony is a good brand, the cheapest it is being was $49.99 on black friday 2014. other brands like lg went for $39 at walmart around black friday

How cheap? Because I find the ps3 makes for a really good blu Ray player.

I generally just recommend getting a PS3 for blu-rays since you get the added benefit of having a library of cheap games to play as well.

When asking about Blu Ray players are your just looking for stand alone to plug into a tv set or does this include a Blu Ray Drive for the computer.

For what it is worth, PS3 still is one of the best Blu Ray players out there.

well, in that case might as well install a blu ray driver on the pc. it has even more cheap games.

That's actually why I'm asking. I'm trying to justify grabbing a refurb 60GB PS3 to myself for $150 when the threshold I set for myself a couple years ago (without thinking of blu-ray playback) is $100 (considering the price the PS2 fell to a little while after the PS3's release).

The PS2 backwards compatibility also bumps the value up a bit, since I can't seem to get my PS2 to work properly with my new Samsung (which only has one component/composite connector anyway). If I can convince myself that having a blu-ray player for that TV, as well as a convenient way to play my PS2 library on it, makes up an approximately $70 combined value (pushing the PS3's base functionality down to $80 since it's refurbished instead of new), I'll go for it.

I'd say bc one is definitely worth it. Mine isn't so I still have my PS2 around, but everything the PS3 does is really great. It's a great blu ray player, I use it for Amazon video, netflix, etc. Great game library (and even better if it is bc). That was actually the main reason we bought it (for the blu ray) it was just a perk I got a newer console too in the process.

The only thing to keep in mind with BC PS3s is the fact that seemingly all of them will get the YLOD unless maintenanced properly in advance.
Yup i had to fix mine but the guy said that if you blow it with an air compressor or duster every month at least once it will happen rarely ylod on you I still have mine working great

I used to like the PS3 as a blu-ray player, but age it showing. When it comes to starting up the disc to skipping forward and such it is slow compared to the Panasonic blu-ray player that I bought since 2012. You can probably find any decent player out there now for under $100 that will perform even better than previous models.

I may be the only one here willing to spend extra on a blu-ray player for speed back then, but it was worth the cost.

with PCSX2 working with 99% OF ps2 games and render them in full HD and great anti-aliasing, I find the hassle of upkeeping a BC PS3 less and less appealing

and PS1 emulator works great on my JPN Final Fantasy VII and IX disc

My only issue with this, is the pain in the but in dealing with settings, drivers, and other crap in getting emulators to work with many games. Whereas a BC PS3, you just put the disc in and it works.

are u serious? These settings are similar like how you set your graphic/audio under PC game option

and come on, how can you say this under PC thread? Tinkering around with setting is what set us apart from the PEASANTS!!!

i would gladly play around with setting in order to get good graphic on these dated jagged games. And that's better than reflowing the BC PS3 every month.

I use that emu and it's not very difficult to find simple tutorials that will give you better results than an actual PS2 ever could.

B/c it ain't on Steam (yet), of course.
Sony be so stingy.

there is zero chance bloodborne comes to steam.

not sure why people occasionally bring that up.

do you think god of war will be on steam? uncharted? little big planet?

neither will bloodborne.
