The entirety of Season 7 was me just watching because I had invested so much time into the show already. I didn't really enjoy any part of it. Season 1 and 2 were slow but as I mentioned the characters/setting/acting kept me intrigued. The show finally ratcheted it up a bit at the end of season 3 and into season 4. 5 started dragging and then I limped through season 6 as well.

Pity that a show with so much potential ended up being so god damned mediocre.
It's also my favorite timeperiod in american history aesthetically. I really want to enjoy it. The most entertaining part for me:

one night I said to my wife "ya know at some point they're going to just have this graphically gory moment out of nowhere, like someone will get a hand or foot cut off and they won't shy away from it." and the next night was the john deere carnage.

I felt like a genius!

And while Mad Men was on the boring side, it's way way better than The Walking Dead. That show goes for 2-3 episodes with nothing happening but then OMG SOMEONE DIED BEST SHOW EVER!!!
I've tried to watch the first episode of Walking Dead twice and it's a total snoozefest. Haven't gotten past that except for a few random clips here and there. I hear the show is pretty much a great premiere, 5 episodes of filler, then a great finale. Rinse and repeat twice a year.

I'm taking myself to see Mad Max tomorrow in the UltraScreen theater with leather recliners for $5 because I'm an awesome cheap date.

Yeah I love the timeperiod too. And advertising is a no-brainer for entertainment. All the best episodes revolve around the company, not the individual employee's lives. So disappointing that they never realized that (or willingly ignored it) to the point that it's almost non-existent in the final half season.

I'm so glad to hear that the walking dead sucks. I always thought I might be missing something after being bored to death by the first two episodes.
There was only one long stretch where I remember it being boring. That was pretty much most of Season 2. I am surprised you thought the initial episodes were boring, but then again it was setting the back story and many people seem to find those episodes boring. I love the show and I am cautiously optimistic for the spin off. Since it will start with the outbreak, it should be considerably different from TWD which picked up well after the start.

I thi they thought we cared about what was happening in these people's lives. But after the second season, it was all the same shit happening over and over, they'd just switch up the pairings. The coolest part of the show to me was the focus on Don's past, but they never built on it enough to have it realize its potential. It's like they were content with telling us the same story on a repeated basis until we just stopped caring.

Then once the hype wore off (which somehow took four whole seasons) people started to realize what kind of show they were watching. Mad Men wasn't a great show that suddenly turned dull and boring, it was a mediocre show that was a different concept from what we were used to seeing and people got way too caught up in it.

Walking Dead would be amazing with flashbacks. I think if it had a similar setup to Lost with flashbacks that focused on a different character every episode, it would be a lot better. They could do so much with something like that and it would give them material to fill in those long boring stretches where nothing happens.

Imagine if Lost was just all island, no flashbacks? It would've had two seasons at the most.

You sound like you've seen all 7 seasons. It's just the shame shit over and over. Do they think viewers don't want to see the characters grow and mature and learn from their pasts?

i have 5 seasons of babylon 5 still wrapped in the plastic blu rays. it was 2 summers ago when bestbuy was giving away $ and I had nothing else to buy. i heard that is an ok show too

I hated breaking bad for most of the first season. So boring and I was so hypes after hearing so many things. Hung in there and glad I did. Now better call Saul was fairly boring the whole season but I am hooked. Gotta see what happens next.

I could write an essay about how overrated The Walking Dead is, but I'll try and be succinct. The highlight reel of my complaints are: Bad pacing- as has been mentioned, you have 1 or 2 big episodes, 5 of nothing going on, one more big episode that's still not great; Stupid characters- I swear like 5 times an episode i am questioning how stupid these characters are. Purposely getting into dangerous situations, fighting with each other for no good reason. And if I see one more person get snuck up on by a zombie in the middle of the woods... shouldn't it be really easy to hear them slow walking through leaves and sticks?; Bad writing- I rarely complain about writing in a show because it's not something I usually notice, but it's downright awful sometimes. Characters sitting around trying to be all introspective about life and death, but it is all nonsense/cringeworthy to me. Ok... im done.

Let's talk about how The Wire is overrated.
No, don't do that!

First season of Breaking Bad is super boring too. But it picks up thank god.

Several people here expressed interest in the Valkyria Chronicles-esque Lost Dimension when it was announced for localization here, so here's a new gameplay video:

There have been episodes with flashbacks. At least one prominent one that I can recall. Nothing to the level of Lost.

At least with The Walking Dead they can't have the ending that every sees coming while denying that it is the ending that is coming. I was hooked on Lost but I would never suggest it to anyone else after that nonsense.

I thought the first season was good if the dialogue a bit hokey, season 2 was pretty meh except for a few moments, such as an event which clears away one of the major drags on the show, which leads into the more enjoyable season 3. I really liked the first part of season 4,
the disease arc
, but many didn't care for it.

The first part of season 1 is pretty so so as it's almost all stand alone episodes, world building, though the episodes usually sprinkle in a few tidbits of story that are important later, like the subtle emergence of the Night Watch. While the story quality is lacking a bit the characters are all enjoyable which helps you get through it. Fair warning the CG in the first few seasons is REALLLY rough, like sub-ps1 graphics.

Things pick up in season 2 as it becomes more serialized and then the show hits its peak near the end of season 3. The main conflict of the show is resolved by the midpoint of season 4 and that's when my interest started to drift. I finally picked it up again a few years later and finished it off, The rest of season 4 is good, season 5 dips some in quality but is better than season 1.

The movies that they had periodically about half of them are forgettable or bad. The Legend of the Rangers which was a failed spinoff pilot turned movie is REALLY bad. The short, spin off series Crusade is also not that good. Of the standalone movies I liked In the Beginning (which should be watched after season 4) and River of Souls was pretty good if completely standalone. The other one to watch is The Gathering which is the pilot movie which aired as a test before they greenlit the series, unfortunately I don't think it is included with the season 1 DVD set. You can get the DVD 2-pack of The Gathering and In the Beginning for really cheap used on amazon.

Now I'm reading the Legions of Fire trilogy which is canon and finishes off the Centauri arc which was left dangling a bit at the end of the series despite the creator knowing it was the final season.

edit: Wait, there aren't any blu-rays of Babylon 5...

I think my God of War play through on Vita is glitched. Trophies don't seem to be popping. Not sure I am going to bother with the second game seems to be a buggy POS too from what I read. Really wanted to give it another shot but screw buggy games.

Weezer .... Sonic Youth .... Queens of the Stone Age. The only reason I know of them is because of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
Ok I vaguely remember Sonic Youth from their Simpsons appearance too

"Teenage Riot", "Little Sister", "My Name is Jonas", "Say It Ain't So". All great songs. In fact, every QOTSA song on Rock Band is great.

Diablo is brining back cow portals for their 3rd anniversary this week. Meanwhile, ps3/360 get double xp/gold. Not sure why they couldn't let everyone have the xp boost.

I know I'm super late, but if anyone is into procedural crime stuff, Luther is amazing. It's on Netflix and stars Idris Elba (it's British).

Seriously. fucking dig it.

The Swapper is pretty cool, but what's with the trophies? They are just Roman numerals and all "Ultra Rare". I've gotten none so far.
Yeah PS+ is giving them a bit of a rarity boost (they're all around 20% on PSNP) but they are actually piss easy if you use a guide (after beating the game, of course)

Yeah Luther is amazing, I've been singing its praises for a while. 3rd season wasn't quite as strong unfortunately, but 1 and 2 are awesome. They're a couple more episodes coming out as well.

Well, that's shitty. Pretty sure it was PS+ when I was on deployment and couldn't redeem. According to to PST, it's a 1/10 difficulty with guide.
