FF7 is a bit overrated but it paved the way for a lot of the epic RPGs that we have today and that's saying something. I'll gladly take the opportunity to play through the remake, even though I probably would have been more excited for a remake of the less popular FF9.
I appreciate its place in history, but with the mediocrity of its story and uninteresting characters almost every FF is a better candidate for a remake.

I don't really care much about FF7 either. Cloud always kinda felt like a Chrono ripoff to me, and Sephiroth is a shitty villain since he's really nothing more than a dude with mommy issues who went nutso. The world never drew me in much, either. I played right to the end of FF7 and just cared so little about it that I never got around to beating the game.

Honestly I'd rather see them release a port of FFXII.
I'd be down for that. Or 8. Or 9. Or 6. Or.. you get the picture.

Well isnt this fucking great! Reading the blog today and they describe Horizon as an Action RPG. So all the fun of killing mech animals will be counter-balanced with the boring aspects of upgrading your character. Just what I always wanted.
Yeah they went into more depth about all the games in the post show shown in theaters. I for one am thrilled, game looks perfect for me and is the non indie that I'm most excited for.

much like with ffvii, I think the world has moved on.
The reveal video has more than 2 million views already. People definitely haven't moved on from FF7.

I do fear it will be Mass Effect 3 ending levels of nerd rage when we get the final product though, since there's pretty much no way this meets the unrealistic expectations.

I've got my fingers crossed that it is. A good dose of reality to temper the flames of nostalgia.

Didn't you really like Enslaved? That could be considered an Action RPG, and is the game Horizon is most compared to.

I guess it didn't click right away, but yeah, none of the exclusives Sony showed will be out this year, huh? Do they have any exclusives coming out around the holiday season? Tearaway in September.. that might be it. That pretty much sucks when MS will have Halo, Forza, and Tomb Raider (even if Tomb Raider has an asterisk).  I'm guessing they were banking on Uncharted 4 for their big holiday release but then it got delayed.

Who are you guys kidding, your going to wait to play most of these games anyway!

Free on plus or bust!
I have only bought one game at full retail so far this year. The Order 1886 (made money on that one). Buying Batman next week already paid for that. Maybe StarWars Battlefront. Maybe AC but probably not.

There are a few others I am considering but honestly I will probably wait on as well. COD BO3 and UC collection.

But since most of these games come out Fall / Holiday I end up picking one maybe two and wait till next year for them to be cheaper.

Chafing! #HoneymoonProblems

And so your end begins.

Seriously though good luck.

You will need it.
Thank you. At least she's a swell broad and all.

In what world can you compare Horizon to Tomb Raider, besides the whole "they're both video games with ladies" thing?
They're both adventure games with a strong, bow-wielding female lead exploring the remains of ancient civilizations in 3rd person? Granted the gameplay we saw wasn't focused on the exploration and history part, but the creatures shown and the voiceover certainly indicate that it will be a major game component.

I did, but I hated the upgrade system just like I do in every other similar game. I admit that likely has to do with some of my OCD traits. I end up freaking out about if I get this I can't get that and what if I need that to beat a boss. It really takes away from the fun of just playing the game for me.

The worst example ever was how I obsessed over the weapons in Darksiders 2. In the end I walked through the crucible because the weapons I made were so overpowered it was nuts.

It sounds less like you find it boring, and more like you find it stressfull.

Gameplay & story (from what little we've seen) is completely different. One is duck and cover shoot bad humans with real weapons and move, then climb shit. One is giant robot fucking dinosaurs with futuristic weapons in a post apocalyptic setting.

Just because the lead has ovaries and a bow like weapon does not make these games comparable at all.

I can't believe i am saying this, but Sony now has COD and Assassin's.... those third party exclusive content will cause those fans to buy on PS4. Sony may lose those months, but honestly they may have lost anyway... fact is I don't think it will be a landslide, which is sad for MS. Especially when the dead months come around and we are getting Uncharted 4

That would be more accurate, yes.
Just go with the flow man. One of my favorite things about games with character progression through upgrades/stat allocations is feeling your power grow through your own work and choices rather than at predetermined intervals where everyone is the same. Its rewarding, and I wouldn't worry about ever painting yourself into a corner by possibly choosing one thing over another that will screw you over later. Perhaps some parts would be more difficult with one choice over another but not progress halting.

Well...shit. Another day I won't be gaming over lunch, then.

So what are everybody's hopes for the SE presentation?
Hoping that since they did the FF7 reveal during the sony conference they concentrate on more KH3 for their own. More details on the mega-troll world of final fantasy game would be nice. Hoping the rumors about something chrono trigger related are true as well.

Ultimate announcement for me though would be a Crisis Core remake to go along with FF7. Or more final fantasy tactics. Mostly I expect disappointment, JC3 info, vague KH3 details, and more on their MMO.

I'm hoping to see a Sleeping Dogs 2 announcement and the announcement of another HD release. Hopefully FFXII, but something. I don't know if we'll see anything about Star Ocean 5 since I'm not sure how popular the series is here. Maybe some Deus Ex gameplay since we haven't seen that yet. Maybe a KH3 release date announcement.

People are going to be pissed. I'm assuming the voiceover in the trailer means we can expect full voice acting in this remake. I'm sure they'll change the battle system because they think no one likes turn based battles anymore.

But hey, it'll look pretty right?

I doubt we'll hear anything regarding Sleeping Dogs 2 after the release of Triad Wars.

Funny thing is I know this, but I never do it. In fact, I end up making the game harder by holding off on upgrades I could be using while saving points for the "what if" scenario later.

Action RPGs are awesome.

The nice thing is, Witcher has a potion that allows you to re distribute if you want to do something else. I love it. It definitely does feel like it is you that is determining how to play the game.

Yeah, Sony has nothing. They're gonna get spanked in the US unless they pull and MS and bust out some really good Holiday prices.

funny, I totally do this too. I thought it was great that the evil within had an upgrade category that was totally worthless (melee) that you could burn a bunch of upgrade points in but that would have no appreciable impact on the game. it was just another giant troll in a game full of trolling.

I started on Infamous Second Son...game is purty. Almost too detailed, lost track of what I was doing\where I was a few times. Seems like more Infamous though...not that it's a bad thing.

I sometimes do this. Or horde ammo for some big boss battle that never comes.

In JC2 for example...

I haven't used the vehicle upgrade parts I have collected. Not sure which vehicle I might need later. Probably beat the game and then figure out it didn't matter.

In Borderlands TPS on PS3 I played with a friend who was trying for some of the co-op trophies. We leveled up my character by doing a certain boss battle over and over (he did 99% of the work). When I ended up resuming my single player I was pretty overpowered till the last quarter of the game and just breezed through the first 3/4 of the game.
