in the Gears beta, if you're having trouble hipfiring the shotgun, remember that the shots come from the center of the screen, not where the barrel is pointing. Just like the original gears of war shotgun.

I don't have the gears beta. I signed up for it but gave the codes away. Also, I ordered my old blood code through Amazon, not the xbox store. I am in the preview program, though. I dunno.
 
Games with Gold is ass compared to PS+. Pool Nation been giving to us for like 3 months in a row! 

Anyways, I quite enjoy the gears beta. Back in the 360 era, I was a hardcore gears player. I been having a bit of hit detection issues but it's minor. Things I don't like so far are there's no planting grenades & no cover kicks. I know there's features we introduce in Gow2-3 but it was a great addition. Since this game is a remake, i figured this features would make it.

After buying Forza Horizon 2, I decided to go ahead and grab the Storm Island expansion.

How long does it take to be able to play it? Do you have to finish the main game? I completed the first championship, which I figured kind of was still a tutorial, and it's still grayed out on the menu.
 
After playing the Gears beta I had to get in the groove again of playing Gears 1 I realized and remember first timers love running up and chainsawing and can't tag grenades on things. Otherwise didn't do too bad, but man it felt weird not being to crawl when down or meatshield.

 
Just bought a used 360 at BB, and realized I had about 15 unplayed games on my license. My backlog just grew exponentially. And we get the GWG announcement next week, hopefully 360 gets some good shit again. Pissed I missed out on Just Cause 2.

Not much further from where you are. I believe you road trip to the second championship, and then you can go to Storm Island after it pulls up the races for that second championship on the map?

It may also be you progress enough and it gives you a small cuts end announcing that it's available. I don't remember exactly, sorry. Something along those lines though, the game makes it obvious
 
I have Wolfenstein: New Order ready to install after I updated the console following entry into the Preview Program.  I had the physical disc previously (at launch, great game, had no real desire to replay after 900/1000 points tho).  I also bought Old Blood digitally via console (not the bundle).

With PayDay 2 - it seems if we party up, we can play the heists multiplayer - but as of earlier this week, it wasn't allowing randoms to join (I haven't heard it was fixed before).  I think a few people added me, but I don't have GTs for those that did - feel free to message me on XB1 or PM me on here and I'll add you.

Also remember that Microsoft can also just as easily take away any mistaken freebies so even if you were to get The New Order for free and download it they can take it off your console the next time you're online.

Randoms can join, but it is a pain in the ass for them to. Online is a bit broken, but once in a lobby it works fine.
 
I have been doing pretty good all week in the Gears beta and I was a hardcore Gears 1 player but can't get into any kind of groove tonight. The gnasher is entirely too inconsistent and I keep getting partnered up with level 1's and 2's on teams of 2 other folks agains a full team of 15-20s.

That and all the newbie chainsaw/two piece/grenade tagging and spawn campers. Ready to be able to play with my old crew again.
 
Was on the fence about downloading Thief to my 360 but it's only 5.5 gb so I said what the hell. Then, a thunderstorm came and the power went out while the download was happening. Should I pick up the download from where I left off when the lights come back on or should I delete and redownload from scratch? Wasn't even excited about Thief until now, but there's something about nature snatching away a carrot that makes you want it even more.
 
You should be fine unless it's not recognizing the file or something. Abrupt shut offs are bad for games saves because they can cause corruptions, but I haven't had issues with game downloads after shut offs.

 
I like the idea behind the long dark, where the enemy is nature and the cold. I've done pretty well through a few tries, built a fire, found a bed, died in my sleep. Built a fire, got warm, slept by it, woke up middle of night and died wandering in the dark, froze to death. I'm interested to try the story and appreciate the game style that's a nice break from chasing bad guys or shooting aliens.

I played against at team with a 31, 29 and two teens while my team was me and two rank 3 players, along with a level 1. I don't understand why they implement a ranking system, yet they don't have it factor into the matchmaking.

I still don't understand why they didn't bring something like the mantle kick to this game, but did bring more character skins from the other games.

It was a bit slow for me. It was Interesting but I quickly got bored. I survived for three days and found a little cabin that was a hunters cabin. It had guns and things but I could never hit an animal to make a kill and just wasted all my ammo. I think there is a story mode but the preview is the open world where you survive as long as possible.

Maybe it was just me and I missed it but a compass would have been nice. A map making item would have been good too. I would have liked it more if I had some references of where to go. I kinda just wandered the same little cove where the cabin was trying to hunt deer or rabbits.

They need to remove center screen aiming in Gears UE, that thing is out of control broken.  I found out today you can completely hide yourself behind certain covers and kill people who can't see or hit you.

Also, using hammer of dawn to spawn trap  in team death matches = tons of hate mail!

 
I got into Gears with 2 and then 3, barely played one online, so a lot of stuff is just kinda not there that I am used to. But I'm still loving the beta, I'm not amazing, but I have fun just chasing people with the chainsaw even if I end up in bits, so I do that more than actually going for kills, when I try to take it seriously I can usually end at around a 1.0 k/d at least :p

 
damn gears really has long TTK's doesn't it, felt weird playing it after so many hundreds of hours in games like battlefield, COD, destiny, etc where its all measured in milliseconds

And to be fair ranking doesn't necessarily matter because you just level up by playing. But if I see a level 1-5, I know the chances are high that they're possibly new to the series and have no clue as to what they're going to be doing. Had one guy earlier died like 11or 12 times and was the entire reason we lost the whole game.

It's not just center aiming, it's that the shots from the Gnasher are so wildly in consistent. If you could play it Privately you could see by standing near a wall and shooting that shots never follow a consistent spread. As for the round the corner thing, it's really bad on Gridlock, as people will use that to cover the Boomshot.

It's what makes so little sense. This isn't an anniversary edition, it's the Ultimate Edition. It should take things from the sequels that enhance the game, like consistent barrel shots, like mantle kicking to prevent those really boring 1vs1 huddled over cover standoffs, like no one shot downs Longshot, and like a Horde Mode for the non-competitive players who still enjoy the series.

Keeping broken things in a game because it's the way it was contradicts the ultimate title.

That's an unfair representation. The gif presented if from the original Gears of War, which had a tighter, consistent spread on the Gnasher fire. It's what people who favor the center shot design of the first game are equally complaining about with this game. The Gnasher in this game is so hard to know where it's aiming, and it seems like even though there are dedicated servers on the game the net coding is not effectively working. This is what causes those close range misses in so many battles.

It's not to say the beta is awful, but it needs several fixes. The noise is off, with footsteps being absent and how gun sounds are wrong (they're too soft or metallic, instead of the raw, loud sounds they previously had). Hammer of Dawn needs a revision without infinite ammo, especially on Courtyard as the map is too open, which allows for spamming of it at no cost. Adding Hammer consumption is definitely needed for modes with respawns.

 
I'm loving the Gears Beta so far, I just wish they would let you select what map you wanted to play on, like in the original. I wish they hadn't fixed the weapons slide animation either.

I'm loving the PC maps too, I hope they include Gears 1 DLC maps. Raven Down was by far the best map in the game.

I'm pretty sure one of the rules for any remaster is to include all the DLC on disc!

 
I got a message today on my XBox 360 welcoming me to the "XBox Preview program" on XBox One. Funny thing is I don't even own an Xbox One. I do plan to get the XBox One eventually now that there is going to be some level of backwards compatibility.
