Did it have eggs, sausage, bacon, and biscuits without grits? Only time I see those missing on a breakfast buffet down here is if they have the "continental" breakfast thing going.
It did. Make your own belgian waffle too. But I figured NC counted as the south.

Grits disappear on the way north LONG before you get to New York or Boston. They can take that cream of wheat shit and shove it.
Grits > oatmeal > cream of wheat, but this stuff is THA BOMB:

And Tyler, my sister lives in Boston and says she can't recall eating anywhere that won't serve you French fries if you ask.

No, went to some.Burger place that the geosciences guy had been to before and i gues it was on that diner and drive ins show. got a pretty good mac n cheese burger.

and do they not sell French fries in boston? everywhere ive been serves those awful fried chips that dont even deserve to exist.
We all know you're talking about Burger King.

And as someone who lives in the area, I've never heard a problem getting fries. I've also never seen this only available as an upgrade option. We used to go into the city all the time and nearly every place we went would have fries as an option with the appropriate meal...burger, sandwich, etc.

It does in general. However, North Carolina is kind of like Florida. The larger cities tend to lose more and more southern staples all the time. Too many people from other areas of the country move in and things start to change. The same is true in Atlanta, but to a lesser extent. A larger majority of the transplants here are like me and from other areas of the south.

I stayed at a hotel in Charlotte last year that had a breakfast buffet. There were no grits to be found. What the fuck man?
And it's not like they are hard to make (or expensive) either. And so much hate for them too. They probably aren't eating them the right way.

White grits are good, but yellow grits are my favorite:

Mix them with [non-scrambled] eggs and you're set. Sometimes I don't even add butter, salt (which I don't do much anyway), or pepper. Much better than instant too.

I'm fine (just fine) with Cream of Wheat (here we call it Hot Cereal). Like grits, they're boring by themselves; I add apple sauce and some sugar to mine. When I was younger, I would add the Gerber jar of prunes to it.

I hate grits too. But as a Floridian I am not really Southern. I only like grits in My Cousin Vinny.
"Pharma"crest. More like Citycrest.
Second choice: Suncrest

And for the kids, who will probably relate to "Vinny's experience" :

Well I question if you really like them if you have to put that much shit in them to enjoy them at all.  I will admit they are better with other things in them, but I can eat them plain without needing a stick of butter in them.

You did not even mention the best version: sharp cheddar cheese grits with fried fish and hush puppies.

Oatmeal is the only warm breakfast concoction I like.  fuck Cream of Wheat, Wheatina, Farina, Grape Nuts, grits, all of em.

Madchemist..... call those relatives in Charleston.  Apparently Westbrook has some bottles of Mexican Cake at the taproom for sale.  They just opened at 4.  No promises they will last very long since it just got posted on the main beer website.

No matter what else I see her in, I always remember Marisa Tomei as she was in MCV. I really can't see her as Aunt May.

Oddly enough if you go to her IMDB profile that's not one of the movies listed in her "Known For" section.
And yet she won the Oscar for that movie. There was even controversy over whether it was a mistake or not.

But I figured NC counted as the south.
Yet people say "Virginia" and "West Virginia" are the south.

I've never ate oatmeal (unless you count Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies).

Hmm. Coco Wheats/ Where do you buy those?

Small diner type places will have actual grits. Or places that are trying to be hipster about it "Oh look at us man, we have grits!"
All the time? I'm noticing Denny's and IHOP will only serve grits until 2:00 p.m. now.

You don't get that problem at Waffle House.

Usually just pepper and a bit of butter for me. Occasionally I'll go for cinnamon sugar and/or honey though. So good.

With eggs, I don't add anything to grits. The yolk does all of the seasoning work so there's no need.

By itself, some pepper is all I need. Whenever I get it out, it naturally comes with butter so I don't complain. It does help keep it from sticking together if it sits for too long though.

Cheese and fish with grits? No thanks. I'm also the type who doesn't have ketchup with my eggs.

Coco Wheats is a Mom's brand (Malt-O-Meal, Mom's Best Cereals, etc.). So, probably in any big cereal section. Product locater - http://mombrands.com/find-products/coco-wheats/

None near me. Walmart has them online.

oatmeal creme pies are disgustingly tasty
The thought process while eating one of those is usually something like:

"Ew those things alway leave me feeling gross"
"Well I'll just have one"
"Fuuuuuuuck this is sooooo good"
"It has that weird chemically aftertaste but you can barely notice it"
"Go damn it I hate myself for eating that"

You damn right!

fried-fish-cheese-grits.jpg

If you have never had cheese grits with fish, I question your southern heritage. Low country style shrimp and grits would get you a pass though.

FYI, I have never put ketchup on eggs. I rarely put ketchup on anything except fries. If the fries are good, I don't want it on them either.

Shrimp and grits thooo

Del Tacos crinkle cut fries are so good if you get them fresh. That's the only place I know that serves the crinkle fries. Curly fries are usually my go to because the addicting seasoning they put on them.
There is a regional chain called Runza which also serves crinkle fries, but what I typically get are frings, which is a package consisting of about 2/3rds fries and 1/3rd onion rings.

You guys dont know what your missing.  A little tangy sweet Heinz can really bring out the flavor profile.  It makes all the other flavors come alive when used properly.  It opens up the senses to limitless possibilities!

LOL this is the stupid shit hipster "foodies" like to say about the crazy shit they eat.

I always think it's bizarre whenever I'm out at breakfast and the waitress asks if I want ketchup or hot sauce for my eggs and then I met my mother-in-law's boyfriend who puts hot sauce, pepper and mustard on pretty much everything.  like his taste buds were burned off by a mean older brother when he was a kid or something.

Chopped up fresh hot peppers in eggs is awesome. Hot sauce on eggs... not so much. I love hot sauce on a lot of things but I tried it on eggs once and it was a...

I cant even imagine any form of mustard that would taste good on eggs and I love mustard.

I've been meaning to try those. I've recently discovered how much better yogurt is with honey.

Liked for waffle house.
Best waffles ever.

#suckitbelgium.

Um I don't think Denny's or IHOP qualify as "small diner type places"
Not many places here though and they don't open for long. In fact, every pizza joint that isn't a hut, domino, caesar, or john is closed on Mondays.

However, I finally find a diner that's open until 10 p.m. so all isn't lost.

I can't find the recipe we use online even though I know it is there. I will try and remember to get it from my wife and post it later. We rarely have it since you can pretty much feel your arteries clog with each bite, but it is soooooo damn good. My friend's wife cooked it for a group of us when we had a beer tasting at his place and it was a big hit. I rarely ask for recipes but I made an exception for that one.

3.5 cups of half and half and 2 cups of heavy whipping cream is healthy right?

no ketchup on eggs. once in a while ill dip 1 or 2 bites of my mcmuffin in ketchup but thats just cuz its kind of dry and flavorless sometimes.

grits are discusting.

If I'm having plain scrambled eggs, I'll add milk to them to fluff them up.  Tomorrow, I'm planning on making some with garlic powder, cilantro and will mix in some fresh salsa, a little shredded cheddar, and make an omelet.  i call it the lazy man's omelet since I don't do any prep work other than mixing the ingredients.
