Maybe this dude's history of erratic and disturbing behavior at previous jobs can help jumpstart a conversation to get better mental health for all the people.  Maybe along with getting fired for this behavior, you go see a professional so you don't go shooting people.  Or maybe if you're feeling off you can go see a professional to help you feel better without it costing an entire paycheck plus more.  We need to remove the stigma of mental health and make it cheeper and easier to access.  It may not have prevented this incident, but it couldn't have hurt.

Also that killers video proves what I have always been saying.

Women have absolutely no peripheral vision. How the fuck did the lady being interviewed not see that guy walking up with gun out. You have to see something strange and at least look over for gods sake.

The reporter might have been able to see him too but the angle wasn't as good. Still though wouldn't it be weird anyone else is there and walking up to them at that time? Yes!!!
Even if she saw him I doubt there would have been any different result.

Also I'm guessing newscasters are trained to ignore everything around them while they're live on air. I'm sure people constantly try to make an ass of themselves when they see a newscaster so they basically just have to tune out all that noise.

As a VoIP guy, fax machines need to die already. Scan and email for fuck's sake. I guess that doesn't work for financial documents, but I sure as hell wish it would.
They seriously need to just die. One day companies will realize everyone they're doing business with is using an electronic fax system anyway. Kinda defeats any purpose of those crappy things.

It's not just that... the reason it is so expensive for mental health help is because of the lack of mental health care professionals there are. My wife worked for a year in the mental health field, currently finishing up her masters so that she can be a high school guidance counselor (Which it too has problems with not enough available in schools to help kids either), but she decided to change careers simply on the basis of how anyone working in the mental health field is treated. Every one is over worked, has too many clients to actually be successful, and the pay is a lot less then you would think... The system is a mess.

Sounds good on the surface, but how in the hell do you make that happen? Someone who gets fired is not going to voluntarily go to counseling. Even if they did, who pays for it? The company that is already looking to just get rid of them? How do you make mental health visits cheaper when the therapists want to get paid? Unfortunately, everything has a cost.

I completely agree about removing the stigma. That one might be possible through education, but I am not sure. In general it seems like there are just too many assholes out there that want to feel better by making fun of others.

Oh an off topic, but off of auto loan conversation, Used cars are still absolutely ridiculous now.  You are 100% better taking a loan on a new car than anything else.  With interest rates being low and rebates and offers, it can actually be cheaper than paying for a 2-3 year old car.

You're a glass half-full kinda guy, aren't you?

Do other countries medicate like we do? We're crazy about it.

You are absolutely correct the result may have still been the same but we all need to be more cognizant of our surroundings at all times. Now news people may need spotters with them at all times.

23 page FAX?

Good lord, I can barely get a 4 page fax to go through without issues.
I figure whoever picked it up must have been like this:

And then said fuck it until they put 2 and 2 together.

Anytime a 20+ page fax is received alarm bells should be going off in someone's head. My first reaction would be that there was a space/time rip to the early 1990s and to call a qualified scientist immediately. Well maybe I'd check to see if new episodes of the fresh prince were on TV first.

'women have no peripheral vision' is the weirdest stereotype I've heard in a while.
Yeah it is weird, but its something I noticed with the women around me. My mom, wife, sisters, women from work etc all seem to have blinders on when it comes to whats happening around them but is within what should be their peripheral vision.

Of course it doesnt make it 100% accurate, its just what I have noticed from a lot of women and I havent noticed the same thing from men. But maybe thats because I am a man and have my own stereotypical thinking about the differences between the sexes. At least I admit that could be the root cause of my observation.

Nice amount of victim-blaming in there, too. I haven't seen the video since they took it down--what was she wearing?
Not victim blaming at all. The shooter is 100% to blame. But we all need to be more aware of our surroundings and this video proves it. Doesnt mean they could be alive today but it certainly wouldnt have made this any worse could it?

Also since I work in a bank we still have faxes we receive.  The regulators and everyone in the industry is scared to death of emails and electronic communication that can be easily stolen.  However a lot of data is transmitted through FTP files etc, its only the smaller items and less money making ventures that are fax reliant.

You just run away from him I think.

I suck with the mech. A lot of people say he's overpowered but I can't do anything useful with him. Since you have to get so much closer to the enemies, I just end up getting hit a lot. I almost exclusively use the ship. Maybe that was my problem?

No I didn't beat it. I died at the boss on 3-5 a few times then called it good. The game is like the absolute opposite of a great roguelike like Spleunky. Both games are super tough, but in Spelunky if you die late in the game you lose maybe 20-30 minutes and your next run is sure to have a lot of different things in it. In Galak-Z if you lose in the last level you lose more than an hour of progress and your next run is going to be almost exactly the same, the only thing different at all is which upgrades you get, though a lot of those are even very similar.

I think the game would have been better if they cut out the roguelike part of the game. I spent a lot of hours in Episode 3 that just feel like a waste of time now. The combat is fun, but many of the encounters start to get very similar as you play them over and over and over again.
Yeah, I'll have to force myself to use the mech more. Since I didn't have any laser upgrades, I was using it a good amount last night. Like I said, if you're quick you can grab them from a fair distance, get a hit or two, then throw at other enemies. I didn't get hit too much using that strategy (depends on how many other enemies there are, though, I'm sure). It takes considerably less sword hits than bullet hits, just trickier to pull off.

I see your complaints about the roguelike structure, though the game would be way too easy/short if you got to start at the beginning of the level you died on each time. I think the crash coin system is pretty brilliant. I managed to replay 2-5 twice because I collected enough. That initial part where you are trying to find your upgrades in the level after respawning is awesomely fun/tense. I don't mind replaying from the beginning since the levels are different (though I agree they could have added more variety) and you're able to save between levels. One of my main complaints is the purchaseable upgrades. I wish these were consistent since it really sucks when you have a lot of salvage but nothing good to get with it. When I beat 2-5 I had 9 crash coins, so I started episode 3 with a shitload of salvage. There wasn't any good upgrades and I ended up dying in 3-1 (that sucked!).

I wish you could play head to head with friends using draft champions teams... I have had 3 good drafts in a row, defense is stacked!

Also I have Romo, Lynch, 3 elites on my line, and AJ Green as my top receiver.

I'm running a 3-4 with Brooks, Matthews, Kerrigan, and Mosley as my 4 linebackers! =P~
I had to do another draft before I got offline last night. I forget who all I picked up, but I was ridiculously stacked, except at qb. The mode is so addicting, it's really a shame I have to play 3 games to get to the next draft. Especially since the rewards for solo are such crap(1 draft badge, 3 silvers, 4 low coin cards) compared to head to head(4 badges, 1 gold, I forget what else).

I'm not great at Madden either, at least not for the first few days, and those games have been some nailbiters. I went 17-3 against my first elite, and then 28-24 and 21-17 against the next two. One of them I was down by 14 at the half. Neither team of mine was real good on offense though.

In the last few decades many mental health facilities (hundreds) have closed. So even if they are identified and want help they might have a tough time finding a place to get help.

Health care costs is also part of the problem. I currently have a job and if I wanted to see a shrink it would cost me a $50 co pay per visit. Personally I could afford that if really needed but it would be a burden. I make decent money. How do people making less then me deal with $50 co pay?

You are absolutely correct the result may have still been the same but we all need to be more cognizant of our surroundings at all times. Now news people may need spotters with them at all times.
This just seems like a one off pissed off nutty ex coworker and not a the start of a rash of attacks on news reporters.

Most people wouldn't even have the $50 copay option. They would have to private pay the full cost that would be considerably more.

Of course it is part of the problem. I even mentioned that. Problem is how do you decrease those costs and who pays for them? Unfortunately, there is no good answer to that question that I can see.

Banks, Lawyers and Healthcare are all stuck in the stone age. We still deal with faxes here.

I agree with this, but there are a lot of incidents where reporters are harassed. Just do a youtube search for "fucked her right in the pussy" and be prepared to be amazed at all the morons who do that because they think it is funny. Of course it is not even remotely the same as this, but it helps show how they are out there on an island for god knows what to happen and the crazy people see those incidents as well as this one and may think it is a way to get their 15 minutes.

Sure but I bet some newstations will ramp up security for a little while. Some may go even farther. You wouldnt want to be the next "one off". Unfortunately crazy people have always been here and will never go away. Even with the best healthcare the truly crazy people wont all be fixed.

EDIT: Sorta Gator'd?

Exactly my points. Need to get rid of barriers like this. I know people don't like big government, but I would think it's in everyone's best interest to take care of these people so more Colombines and Sandy Hooks and SC Church and Live TV News people shootings don't happen.

And every single on location reporter in the country is gonna be jumpy as hell now at anyone loitering around a shoot. I can't imagine going out to do a report like this today. I think extra security will be there for these for a month or two at least.

I just can't see how having Health care the way we have it continues to work. It is a for profit industry. As is medical insurance. How can those at the lower end of the economic scale get decent health care? I pay just shy of $700 a month for coverage for my wife and I. It covers less and less every year. Co insurance, co pay, deductibles etc. I am lucky my company has separate plans (HRA they fund and FSA that comes out of my check) helps cover those costs. But millions of Americans don't have it even close to this good.

Four years ago my wife was in the hospital for about a week and had an operation. IRC the bills for that were over 60K. Looking at some of the line items it was just insane what they billed for things. Also crazy what a discount the insurance companies get vs what someone paying cash is expected to pay.

I am not sure what Canada is doing is right or wrong but what we have seems to be a mess.

Getting rid of the war on drugs would go a long way on that, between the money spent directly on it, the money spent on keeping drug users in prison, and the money lost from not taxing it. That one issue has a pretty big impact.

Nothing as big as our bullshit military budget, but still.

It seems to me the problem is always $$$. If only they could find a way to give everyone a lot of money, problem solved. The solution is so fucking EASY!

The problem is that people like us with insurance pay for the people that dont. Those 60K medical bills are inflated for insurance. If you dont have insurance the bill is a fraction because the hospital knows you cant pay anyway and they are going to get what they can. And there are probably a hundred other reasons. One of which is that the poor people just have more medical debt that they eventually wipe away in bankruptcy or spend all their lives paying for.

I would be for higher taxes if we could do free health care like Canada.

Doubt it. It was an isolated incident. It cost money to send out a reporter, remote truck, and camera man. Now you are going to add a security team? This was an act of work place violence (ok the guy was no longer employed there). Not targeting a specific profession. Like a few years ago in NYC (and probably elsewhere) people starting robbing cabbies. They usually had large sums of cash and were pretty vulnerable.

The insurance company didn't pay $60K either. Maybe around $25K after their discounts and my co insurance, deductible and co pay.

I wonder if the year-later PS4 version will get a CE like this one:

That steel case looks pretty cool. Everything else is bleh.

Don't care about any of that. It just better be the Definitive Edition again with all DLC.

Speaking of a Blue Bomber, you're all not worthy of my new toy!

Did you raid Jay's shoe closet?

It's so great that this is getting a retail release while Fatal Frame V is digital-only.

Yeah well the next thing is that they will just let go of all their remote reporters and cameramen and replace them with robots or drones.

I know, but there must be a reason they list the 60K. They have to be getting something for that somewhere otherwise why would they even show that. If someone doesnt have insurance they dont bother inflating the cost for some reason. I have a feeling they get a kick back somewhere for showing the "actual" cost. It just wouldnt make sense to list an inflated price they know they arent getting from insurance anyway.

Also fuck me on that Deadly Premonition collectors edition. I already own the disc of Directors Cut and the digitial complete edition on PSN. Here goes a 3rd dip. Time to unload my current disc.

shutshimi is awesome just like everyone said. They have enough in game awards to have a plat all worked out. What a shame. Guessed they should've hired a fourth.

Seeing so many recent developers apparently unaware of their ability to create a plat if they want one really ticks me off, mainly at Sony for not communicating it.

Were those against the CPU or head to head drafts?

My first head to head I had an amazing team, the other guy had Sanchez as his QB, I had luck. Luck threw two balls way over a receiver that the safety picked off... Sanchez didn't miss a single pass. They said they were making it so QB's would miss more, but in a game were luck had two bad throws and Sanchez had none, that made me mad.

They certainly do bill uninsured people the full amount. They try to get as much of that as they can. Usually they do end up striking a deal and giving a discount but typically it isn't offered without some effort. They want to negotiate down from the full amount.

Getting back to my wife's hospital stay...

Back then my job didn't cover as much of the coinsurance. I would have to ask my wife for the exact amount but we ended up owing the hospital a few grand. We asked for some consideration and they said if you make below $60K gross we take some percentage off. We didn't qualify. They tried to bully us into a higher payment per month then I wanted / was comfortable paying. I told my wife I would call them if she wanted but tell them they will take $50 a month or nothing. They took $50 a month. We ended up paying it off sooner anyway.

I dont think they do charge the same amounts. At least not all places. I have called a Radiology place with insurance and they quoted one rate and then another person who didnt have insurance called the same place asking for the same MRI and she was quoted a lesser amount. I am told this is how it works at a lot of places.
