Pro Wrestling discussion topic--WWE, AEW, ROH, Impact, New Japan, indies

The division won't have any revolution as long as they're still referred to as "Divas"
You had your whole point made here. "Divas" is totally demeaning and sexualizing.

Bayley/Sasha was the best match of three straight, white hot nights of pro wrestling.

The 4-way tag at SS was also great - the crowd was on fire the whole time.

So I know I'm going into the unspeakable "don't compare MMA to wrestling territory" but I have to say it was fascinating to watch the Rousey fight a few weeks ago and compare it to how WWE handles women competitors. Night and fucking day man, they couldn't be further from each other...

Well, if nothing else, they are *presented* in the same way in terms of broadcast television (fundamentally, please lord jesus don't get fucking solipsistic on me now, people), which makes your point perfect.

It might also be why, while people speak highly of the NXT Women's Division, the world is GAGA over Rousey. She's a badass and a nerd first, while the job of the WWE is to remind you that, while talented and badass, they are also highly fuckable, too - and it's that overt sexualization that trivializes the whole goddamned division.

Any Splatoon players here? Really want to start a wrestling-gimmicked Squad. We don't even have to be good, it's just too good of an idea to pass up.

That Sting promo was pretty terrible.
I thought so, too. It seems they're trying to play a "mind games" angle causing dissension b/w HHH and Seth, with Sting serving as the provocateur. Still, putting over HHH still leaves a sick aftertaste because it's so tiring to hear.

Now, if Sting had won at Wrestlemania, this would all make so much more sense - HHH is more of a man than Seth, I beat HHH, ergo I can beat you. It doesn't make nearly as much sense since Sting lost, though - and the construction of the last two weeks shows how they have to desperately cobble together a storyline.

It feels juvenile to complain about someone winning a match, but sometimes it simply makes far more logical sense to have specific outcomes - whether that's to get someone over, further solidify someone's place on the card, to further a storyline, and so on. I try to do so not because they guy I want to win doesn't win, but only when it doesn't make sense.

Watching the "beat the clock" match b/w Paige and Sasha. Announcers say "can you imagine if Sasha beats paige?" as if that's utterly unthinkable. Treating a Sasha loss as an inevitability doesn't help the product or help get over the wrestler you want to get over. Kinda silly to dismiss her like that. They said the same thing tonight when Ascension wrestled Dudley Boyz - and in that case, it's fine because you already know that Ascension are jobbers. They have been since day 2.

The opening Sting promo was one of the worst of the year in terms of its message. HHH IS THE KING OF KINGS, STING IS GRATEFUL FOR HAVING HIS ASS BEATEN AND THEN HAVING HIS HAND SHAKEN, and oh yeah, the WWE Champion isn't half the man HHH is.

Dolph and Rusev had a nothing match that peaked with the post-match upskirt of Lana. Dolph took a shower and Summer invaded the room - so Dolph apparently just doesn't care about folks walking in on him showering. Divas revolution bullshit with this beat the clock challenge. It BEGAN with a 3:21 match, so this revolution is worth about 10 minutes of airtime on this 3+ long hour show. Becky won.

Braun-Dean wasn't much, while Cesaro-Owens was good, it was hurt by the commentary just not caring about it at all and not feeling special. Everything with the Dolph-Lana stuff sucked, as she's angry over him...clearly being set up by the heels and looks like an idiot. Speaking of which, Paige lost the BTC challenge when she should've won by DQ. Dudleys had a super-fun match with New Day, and then Seth was put in his place by Steph. Beyond just being completely responsible for the women's revolution, she'll be responsible for whipping him into shape. And she made Cena-Seth for the U.S. Title - so Seth, the heel, is defending his title against the odds and WWE is outright copying ROH's Jay Lethal run - well, it's a good idea, so why not.

Once again I post the question: How the hell can anyone here complain about the Divas and their shitty treatment while Jay constantly does nothing more than post tit and ass shots of them. Stop being hypocrites folks.

#JustSayin

And 3 of the same one, no less.

It's a valid point.  If one is going to talk about how the women in the WWE deserve respect, then one should also be taking Jay to task for his demeaning screen caps.

Many of us have, on multiple occasions. Then he starts his whining whenever someone says something and how it's his right to do it and that there's some people that like it, blah, blah, blah.

I'm sure he made this week's extra special just to try to get a rise out of people. He isn't even worth the effort I've put into this post. However, he's a perfect example of how WWE won't change because of fans just like him that are so one dimensional that they're basically just a walking erection.

RVB is right - "women's revolution" from NXT or not, women in WWE are (with the exception of Stephanie) necessarily fuckable. It's part of the job requirement.

I have a vague recollection that Charlotte had been under discussion for not being called up due to her looks. I can't say how accurate or prolonged those discussions were, but let's be honest: you know damn well WWE officials have those discussions.

Meanwhile, UFC is making waves and getting loads of attention by pushing Ronda Rousey the same way WWE pushes Brock Lesnar.

I play, but probably won't be playing it for awhile with Metal Gear Solid V out today and Mario Maker out next week.

New Day owned the the night last with Xaiver's hair and the general greatness that is New Day.

Charlotte does look like Dee Snyder though. She should wear a mask. The same thing happens with the male wrestlers too so dont act like its a sexism thing. Plenty of guys didnt get a job because they didnt have the face for it. Christian is the blue dot guy because Vince thinks he is ugly.

I do understand where WWE is coming from though, the only ratings or money made from the women in their company was due to horny 13 year olds, and lonely old men getting to see side boob on wrestling. So they try to stick with a sure thing. A PG-13 version of a sure thing anyways.

NXT is killing it for the womens wrestling. Watch that. There really is no reason to bother watching WWE so the Divas revolution there doesnt matter to me.

As for UFC, if it was Cristiane Justino and not Ronda Rousey beating everyone in the division then there would be no waves being made. People think Ronda is hot and thats the only reason she is a big deal. If Gina Carano was a little better in the cage then she would be making even more waves, because she is actually hot.

Sex sells. WWE is about making money, not about pro wrestling, unfortunately for fans such as myself. Sad, but true.

100% correct.

Sting shouldn't have signed with WWE.
He should have, just not as an active wrestler. He should have signed their legends contract or whatever it is so he could get some BluRays of his career out. Get WWE to pump out Sting merch to keep his income up.

Forget about revenge, nerds. The Wyatt Family is coming for you. Chong Li doesn't stand a chance this time. BRAUN STROGREMAN.

I was just wondering about that a week or so ago on here. Better late than never I suppose.  It will be interesting if WWE gives him the Hogan treatment, or if saying bad words is still worse than killing people.

I don't think Jimmy Snooka is under contract with WWE or if he is it's only a Legends Contract. If he is, then it will probably be suspended or revoked.

There's no statute of limitations for murder. They must have new DNA evidence or something.

Sasha Banks might be breaking away from Tamina sooner than we thought.
I highly doubt Tamina will be affected by this, they rarely even mention that she's Jimmy's daughter anymore anyway and can it really get any worse for Tamina, before teaming with Naomi, she did nothing for years.

Snuka doing an "I'm an illiterate jungle guy" gimmick when the cops questioned him initially always pissed me off. Glad it has finally caught up with him.

If they are finally getting justice for Snukas girlfriend then maybe someway somehow there will be justice for Brody in the future. To this day I still do not understand why they put Colon in the HoF given how tied in he is/was with that murder.

Couldn't give a shit. It's a corporate back-patting for a make-believe sportz show. I'd rather see them build a museum with all the goddamned set pieces, posters, etc. they've built and archived over the years. A pro wrestling museum, so to speak - no need to "induct" people, just promote history with items/installations/videos.

I mean, would you rather have this discussion, or see a museum installation on legendary WWE foreign objects?

What do you guys think about Owen Hart not being in the HoF?
Doesn't mean anything. He was a super talented guy but the "WWE Hall of Fame" is completely arbitrary. There's no real standards for entrance, there's no committee or voting, it's just whoever Vince or his inner circle want to promote in a given year or sign a cross-promotion marketing deal with (see Schwarzenegger).

As Myke said, I'd rather see a physical hall of fame or museum with the warehouses of memorabilia they supposedly own.

The only thing about the HoF I like is the actual inductions, there have been a lot of great speeches done over the years from a lot of different people. They aren't all winners but for every crap speech I can find 2 others that were good/great.

I do agree about the need for a physical Hall of Fame/museum though. I think this is something Triple H has been pushing for years but for some reason Vince has never wanted it, or so countless dirtsheets have reported over the years.

"To the left you'll see the original hand that Hall of Famer Mae Young gave birth to on a segment of Raw is War..."

Yeah, I'd be down to visit that.

That's what I like too. Never was too into the whole HoF thing, felt weird.

I think it would be awesome to have a museum or something for WWE history.

Uh, holy shit. I think they may have found a way to make The Ascension not totally useless. Their corny act will actually fit right in with the Stardust stuff.

Edit - never noticed the Danzig tattoo on Ascender #1 or whatever his name is. I want to see how they Pepsi that on an action figure.

Man, this Swerved show on WWE Network is the definition of utter dogshit. The last episode was so hard to watch.

Between Woods playing the victory song from Final Fantasy and the awesome sound effect when an opponent was hit in the corner I have to agree 100%. He's the best manager in WWE right now by far.

I skipped Raw, but did I read right that Woods yelled "HUSTLE, LOYALTY, GIVE UP" during Cena's match? Bless than man and his brass instrument.

Indeed he did.

I don't see any Youtube videos from last night (plenty about the fan coming out during Rollins' entrance), but Woods does have his own channel which looks great:

Xavier's Youtube channel is awesome, really fun videos that don't take up much time to watch. Make sure and check out the video of some of the guys playing SFIV, seeing Rusev play it is just hilarious for some reason.
