In other words, this is Telltale wanting to get everyone's money just in case Minecraft fades into obscurity by the time the series is over.
Trying to not go full Stotch here... If you think Minecraft has any chance of fading into obscurity any time soon, you may want to look at some of its sales figures a bit more closely.

I think they likely want to cater to fans who are collectors who do not want a digital only game as their only option at launch where they can still play it episodically. Might not make sense to anyone here except Cainiac, but those people do exist.

Good point. I still don't like the idea of them selling a disc that has just one episode on it while the others have to be downloaded later on.

Have you guys/gals played any of these?

20 Severely Underrated Video Games from the 2000s:

http://whatculture.com/gaming/20-severely-underrated-video-games-from-the-2000s.php
Nice list (though did we really need each game to have it's own page??), thanks for posting. It actually contains some of my favorite games from the PS2 era. I played:

From Russia With Love: Super solid/fun Bond game. I'd say just below Everything or Nothing as my favorite TPS Bond (might include FPS Bonds too.. nothing besides Goldeneye was especially impressive).

Psi Ops: This game is just amazing. I remember I played the demo for months waiting for it to come out. The telekenesis or whatever was perfection. Pick a bad guy up, shoot him a few times than fling him across the level into an explosive barrel. Pick up a giant boulder, throw it into a bad guy and he explodes in a mist of blood. I would have so much wood if they made a sequel to this.

Shaolin Monks: Super fun. Play through the events of MK2 in a 3D streets of rage type game. Definitely the most underrated of all the MK games.

Manhunt: This was okay. It was a tense little stealth game. I suspect the gore (which was pretty controversial when it released) is pretty tame by today's standards. I had no strong desire to play the second one.

Syphon Filter Dark Mirror:" Probably my sole reason for buying a PSP as this was one of my favorite series'. It did not disappoint as it managed to be one of the best in the series (even if you had to use the face buttons to aim).

Timesplitters 3: I thought everyone knew this game was amazing? Goldeneye for the PS2 era. They should make the multiplayer online and do a rerelease.

The Darkness: The story really drew me in for this one. Gameplay was solid, but probably dated now (sequel controlled much better but had kind of a lame story).

War of the Monsters: I can only imagine the amount of time I put into this one. One of the few games I felt like I really mastered. I would add as many CPU opponents as I could at max difficulty and just wreck them. Split screen was fun too.

Prince of Persia 08: We've talked about this one a good amount I think. This is probably my favorite in the series after Sands of Time.

The Warriors: Rockstar makes an open world(ish) fighter? So good! I enjoyed the campaign on this one from start to finish.

Damn.. I played a lot of games back in the day. Don't get me wrong I buy more now than I ever have.. just don't get around to playing them too much.

My dad likes to shame me into doing the work. Vaguely sucks because I can't just take my car through one of those automatic washes 'cause of the soft top. Only washing/waxing half a car tho because of it so I can't complain too much, I just don't feel like doing it. And haven't for the last month of needing to do so lol.
I always tell myself I am going to wax my car once a year and I never do it. I just buy a good soap and it seems to do a nice job of keeping the paint looking new and shiny. Shampoo AND conditioner! For a car!

I don't like it either, but I also won't be surprised if it is successful and you start seeing it as a more common occurrence for episodic games.

I have never even pretended to wax a car. And I'm hard pressed to even remember the last time I took my car through an automatic car wash, let alone did any scrubbing. I have done both, but it's been a long time. I figure the film of grime on the car helps protect the paint. Right?
So how bad does the interior of your car smell?

Nice. Added a GF sub and as soon as Hyperdevotion Noire shipped for rent I clicked "Keep" and got it at the $14.99 sale price. Forget if it was in here or another board were that was recommended, but it worked great for getting around the out of stock issue for the sale.

Now I just need to decide which game to rent first for real.

Liked for the Everything or Nothing shout-out--that's easily my favorite Bond game. I'm ashamed I never got around to playing Timesplitters 3 after putting so many hours into TS2 on Gamecube.

Own disaster report from a $5 Circuit City pick-up, but never played it.

Replaying Hitman: Contracts right now for the first time in 10 years or so, Blood Money (the sequel) holds up much better. There is a lot more freedom to experiment as it is almost all in public places so you can poke around without getting shot at immediately by guards. In Contracts so far it's all in heavily fortified areas so you have to sneak around until you find a disguise.

Psi-Ops vs. Second Sight was the eternal debate at the time. Second Sight has a better story but Psi-ops was just more fun as your full range of telekinetic powers + Ragdoll physics was a blast. Such as holding a guard up in the air and then shooting them with a machine gun which caused them to spin faster and faster. I wouldn't exactly call Psi-Ops underrated as that was pretty well reviewed at the time of release. I would probably bite on an HD remake.

I think I rented Manhunt at release and may own a copy on steam, but I remember it was a lot more infamous than it was enjoyable.

I still have the Darkness in my backlog, maybe for October, but #notrophies

War of the Monsters was tons of fun back in the day. Oh hey, it's on PSN, I'll definitely pick that up if its ever on sale.

---

There are quite a few games on that listed I wouldn't exactly categorize as "severely underrated."

I liked Rex Ryan better when he was fat.

Not that random, his press conference is on SC right now.

he's not gonna sleep with you

unless u have nice feet
Did you guys see the pic of him in his office the other day? Too funny. And gross. Feet are gross.

Lol, in any event my son is going to flip his shit once he knows this is a thing.

I didn't play Disaster Report, but I played its similarly-hugely-underrated sequel Raw Danger. I also really enjoyed Prince of Persia (2008), and I have Psi-Ops in my PS2 backlog to most likely play during my retirement.
I played Disaster Report and finished it. Fun unique game.

Prince of Persia 2008 was ok, I still liked Sands Of Time more. I think The Forgotten Sands is an overlooked game as well.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is fuck ing awesome.

I only played a bit of Psi-Ops but it's one of those games I wanted to play more of. Maybe I'll pick it up on PC at some point. PS4 remake would be awesome though.

The Warriors is pretty kick ass, great great port of the full game came to the PSP which is where I played a good chunk of it.

Here's everything from that list that is on PSN if you want to play something from the list using a minimal amount of effort.

Hitman: Contracts HD, part of HD trilogy, was a PS+ title (PS3).

Splinter Cell: Double Agent (PS3)

It seems weird that there isn't a single Timesplitters game on PSN.

Darkness 1 is disc only, though there is a demo (PS3).

Another probable reason is for shelf space in stores. There's always a minecraft toy display in Target. They average audience for this is probably pre-teen boys. Who, more likely than not have their parents purchase things physically.

There's plenty here that must be 6 years old.

So for people like me who don't know what the fuck this is just based on video main title image or video since its all in Japanese. It's a remake of Final Fantasy Adventure for Gameboy (the first game in the Mana series) for Vita.
Well, yeah. I was talking about FFA yesterday in relation to the unannounced SD title, too, but I guess I assumed everybody in here was familiar with the Gameboy game and would recognize it. It's been over 20 years for me and I immediately knew what it was. :)

I don't know that game at all. The video makes it look kind of like a Zelda game. Does it play like that?

Yes Therm, because every one has played every FF game ever made.

Which means we should have a poll to determine everyone's favorite.

So two things about this Minecraft Telltale game:

 1. Every Telltale game so far has been far under $30 ($24 with GCU) by the time the season ended.
 2. Is the disc going to be single-account activation? Recall Sly: Thieves in Time for example which let you use the disc to cross-buy the Vita title. That only worked once, so will reselling the Minecraft disc only give the 2nd person access to episode 1 and none of the subsequent episodes?

It's Secret of Mana 1. It plays like Secret of Mana but with a single character and without (IIRC) the weapon/magic wheel.

It's not an FF game. They just used the FF series label I guess for marketing reasons.

Though I'm curious now--did anybody ever play the actual FF games for Gameboy? Final Fantasy Legend I, II, and III? I gave up on those. They were interesting but had weapon durability and some other annoying mechanics that made them quite a bit more difficult and tedious from what I recall.

I always found it a bit odd how well Zelda did. Crystalis for NES was of the same style but absolutely crushes it in every way. I'm not sure what motivated Zelda to do better in comparison.

The graphic style feels weird compared to the Tales games I've played, but it looks like there's no more overworld/battle screen transition--the character and monsters appear to just roam around and you can attack them at will. If so that's a nice change IMO.

rip target vita clearance, all my stores are cleared out of the good stuff. Now to stalk that gold ds3.
I was reading the Cheap Vita thread earlier. Looks like it got slickdealed. Is there any you were still looking for? I looked at a couple of the ones I am on the fence about and there seems to be one store not far away with tons of them.

EDIT: 8 copies of Ridge Racer I think qualifies as tons of them.
Best Buy has a $35 TIV for Destiny: The Taken King.
Is the taken king DLC a code? $51-35=$16 after tax to upgrade if so. Maybe sell off the code to the previous DLC too.

Still not sure it is worth it to me.

Timesplitters, Call of Cthulu and Vampire: The Masquerade.

All 3 are phenomenal.

Doesn't even make sense to me as I want the whole game on disc. Not the first episode + a pass. Useless. The reason we're probably seeing this first with Minecraft because its one series that can easily afford to risk disc production on this and be ok with it failing. Though it won't because Minecraft. I might still end up getting it anyway cause the other half of me that collects things its a unique piece. At least for now until the way is paved and everyone else follows suit.

so can anyone explain why shower with your dad simulator 2015 has supposedly sold ~60,000 copies on steam in two weeks?
My friend/coworker bought it release day and gifted me a copy. I still haven't tried it yet.

So buy it at BB at a discount and trade it back in at a high TIV before anyone notices?

fuck that game hard. A friend and I played that game to the end and on the last boss the power went out also wiping our save.

I'm interetsted in both Gaidens if you run across them. My store is currently left with a ton of Dungeon Hunter Alliance, a SFxTekken and a Blops Declassified.

very kind of you to offer, but I'm one of those slickdealios I guess. that blue vita ain't gonna pay for itself! unfortunately there's much more committed locals than me and I missed out on a couple stores. I still think I'll make what I need though.

I did snag one more minecraft if anyone wants to call dibs before I put it up.

(zestiria video)
is that a vita version or am I just getting crappy video quality?
