In Japan it's gotten some legs lately because public transportation is much more common (and it's not as socially weird to whip out a handheld on the bus) and home consoles are less desirable there (see ps4 sales numbers and the price cut). So the vita is one of the last supported outlets for companies to make Japanese focused console games and still make some money. It's one of those 'if you build it' things and it's resulted in some stronger sales. That just wouldn't happen here.

I just hate the 3DS so much and I seriously loved the DS (Lite). I get the dwindling market in general due to mobile and that handhelds do better in Japan but the Vita is a pretty amazing piece of hardware. It seems obvious with all the ports that it's easy enough to port too, I mean i think people would lose their shit if it had some sort of PS2 support...even if only digital titles.

It also doesn't help that Sony doesn't market shit. I mean one commercial that's just a 2 minute sizzle reel could help IMO. It's obvious a favorite system among hardcore gamers but even some of the people I talk to in gamestop (clerks) go what are you playing on the Vita...there's like no games etc.

The other baffling thing is Sony had a homerun on launch. Just fix those mistakes by adding a micro sd slot for cheap storage and add a couple more top triggers for PS4 remote play. The Vita 2000 is already slim enough and awesome.

I'd get my kid a Vita before a 3DS because with Flash sales and weekly deals I'd be paying a shit ton less in the long run. It has so many great things about it, but Sony ignores it.

Looking at indies, everyone wants to put their game on it because it's such a great fit and Sony's not going to make you jump through hoops to get your game on the system.

It's not that I don't get it, it's it doesn't really all add up equally.

The people that own it, probably give it one of the highest attach rates of any console. Why? Because it's fuck ing awesome that's why!

 
I know it defeats the purpose, but terraria is a fun little game if you have a bunch of cool equipment and stuff. I just don't have fun mining for hours.

If anybody wants me to pass down anything to them when I'm done with it, let me on know. I even have a bunch of the items needed to spawn the bosses.

You should definately get awesomenauts for $2.50. They still support the game and just came out with a new character a week or 2 ago. and not overpriced dlc, its like $1.50 for a whole new character. great fun game too but i love well done mobas. I have blue estate but only played the first level and the motion controlled aiming was really shoddy.

 
I ended up grabbing Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, Space Ace, and Zack Zero. The first 3 I was just wondering the other day about those so bought them cheap out of nostalgia and Zack Zero is (60) on Metacritic but looks like enough fun for 90 cents.

Never saw those or I would have tried them. It takes an immense amount of willpower for me to not kill one of those 16oz bags in one sitting. (I think 16oz is the size I'm thinking; whatever the size is that costs about $2.50.)

Loved Tales of Xillia. And lol, it's Space Ace, it's an old school laserdisc game. Anyone who never played it will hate hate hate it, and even some who did play it will hate it. It's not very good. Nostalgia purchase only.

Only ones I'm thinking of getting are the trine bundle and awesomenauts...for the near future...I never liked the ps3 awsemonauts, but my son plays the shit out of it

Again, if you never spent dollars and dollars of quarters at the arcade playing those laserdisc games, DO NOT BUY THEM. You will hate them.

I love Dragon's Lair, but only because of pure nostalgia. There was nothing else like it at the time. There would be huge crowds of people around the machine, and I believe it was the first one to cost 50 cents. But you all will absolutely loathe it if you try it today and never played it.

 
I remember dragons lair was on this weird spherical cabinet for the 3d. And my buddy had the laserdisc.

It's too bad the PSP version, La Pucelle: Ragnarok never came over. It's got a similar expansion of the content like the Disgaea PSP versions had, plus it would have been nice to get another publisher. The PS2 version had some unfortunate censoring due to religious content:

When La Pucelle was released in North America, almost every instance of a cross was removed from the game. This included the many crosses adorning the clothing of Prier and Alouette, altering the shape of Croix's gun, and altering spell animations with the exception of holy panels. The "Dark World" was originally "Hell" (or what Disgaea's translation refers to as "The Netherworld"). Croix's prominent cigarette was also removed from both his character portraits and his sprites. This includes a pose of Croix taking a drag from a cigarette with a cigarette missing.

Mastiff offered an explanation for these changes in an interview with 1UP.com just before the game's release. According to Bill Schwarz of Mastiff:

"There are well organized forces that work hard to punish software makers and sellers for what they consider religious transgressions. As a very small and brand new publisher without deep pockets we need to pick and choose our battles. Had we thought the crosses were meaningful we would have fought. But they weren't. And we'd much rather have the game widely available then [sic] face disappointed gamers who cannot find the title. It was the right decision, though as we grow as company we may make different calls in the future."

I think we've had this conversation before, but mamorukun curse is basically a vertical scrolling shooter except you run along the ground and cast spells instead of flying a ship which shoots bullets. I forget what it was before when it was on sale but I might pick it up for $2 this time.

Space Ace is dragon's lair, except in space, so QTE hell.

I played Dragons Lair in an arcade but never once saw Space Ace. 100% on both are pretty easy. Did Space Ace when it was one of the free PS Now games.

yeah I picked up and played through mamorukun curse last time. I've really enjoyed it - the twin stick + shmup combo works well enough. There's some tough stuff trophywise and in alternate modes. Story mode was a surprise since you can screw yourself and have to start completely over if you suck. The continue function lets you restart the level you were on but only with the same number of lives as when you started the first time (no refresh), so if you burn em all and then die in the next level...
