Play Risen 1... don't waste money on the others.
I don't think those games are really that much different. They follow the typical PB style of RPG'ing - go to an area; get favorable reputation there (or not); join a faction; do more quests. The major differences in that stuff are: Risen 1 is more like Gothic 1+2; Risen 2 took on a pirate-themed setting; and Risen 3 mixed both elements + settings of Risen 1+2.

I just think more so than anything that Risen 1 is more KB-mouse friendly than Risen 2+3 b/c of the changes Risen 2 made. This change in Risen 2 could (and often did) really turn fans of Risen 1 off majorly, since this style of combat feels way more natural with a gamepad.

Risen 1's controls + camera doesn't make it easy to battle multiple enemies, while Risen 2+3 really changed that. In Risen 1, you really don't often battle multiple enemies and be surrounded by them; while Risen 2+3 does have battles w/ multiple enemies constantly. Risen 2's controls + unlocked camera take time to get used to, since it's much different than that of Risen 1 - especially w/ the KB-mouse. With the mouse, you have to hold the right-mouse button to really lock onto an enemy in Risen 2, so you ain't swinging freely from enemy-to-enemy.

While it took a bit to get used to in Risen 2 w/ KB-mouse, I do wonder if I would've preferred Risen 2 w/ a gamepad - since Risen 3 is a rehashed, remixed & more polished version of Risen 2. The controls from Risen 3 just feel so much better w/ a gamepad and way more responsive, since it's much easier that way to battle multiple enemies when just moving the analog stick in any direction to swing from enemy-to-enemy in a much more free-form style of combat.

EDIT:

Good lord, you dopes. I hope you're hassling MysterD just for kicks because it ain't that hard to figure out.

i.e., Risen 3 has some facets it performs better than Risen 2 but, on balance, Risen 2 is the superior title. Granted it could have been written a little clearer but use your noodle.
Risen 2 also felt much fresher than Risen 3. Risen 3 has this "I've been here and done this feeling" A LOT, gameplay-wise. TBH, it doesn't really bring a hell of a lot new to the series...other than Enhanced graphical quality + with the return of traditional magic from Risen 1.

More so than anything, Risen 3 feels actually more like it could've been a stand-alone expansion to Risen 2.

Risen 2 abandons a lot of key hallmarks of PB games like meaningful factions, quality melee combat (it sucks in Risen 2) and early game challenge.  Factions make a comeback in Risen 3 but that game's biggest problem is that in making it 'open world' you usually overpower most of the enemies by the time you're halfway through the game lessening the challenge.

In any event, I think they're pretty much done as a studio and I don't have much hope for Elex or whatever it's called.

Yeah - Risen 3 does a much better job w/ factions than Risen 2; agreed there for sure.

Did you play Risen 2+3 w/ a gamepad or KB-mouse?

Granted, I do think they could've come up w/ a better scheme for KB-mouse here, given how well combat plays + feels with a gamepad for Risen 3. I think for KB-mouse users, having a toggle switch for locking onto on enemy (which also locks the cam) would've been better than just holding the right-mouse personally. Holding the right mouse for a while, while also hitting other keys can be awkward + take time getting used to; and that's if one can even get used to that. This is especially true if you're holding that right-mouse button and either maybe also hitting other mouse-buttons - that's just awkward.

Anyone know why I can't get Hola to work? Wanted to pick up Shadow of Mordor GOTY if it is indeed <$7 from Putinland GG, but the Russian prices aren't showing up no matter how many times I try it. Worked fine for Endless Legend a couple weeks ago.

Clear all cookies for Gamersgate first and make sure you're logged out. Also make sure hola's working, sometimes it gets wonky so try Google and see if the Russian page shows up.

*Edited to add: If hola is giving you issues you can also try the DotVPN chrome plugin. Probably a good idea to do that anyway since I haven't heard anything shady about them. yet.
Tried using the DotVPN chrome plugin at gamersgate, but I kept getting an "Access Denied" message when trying to login. Used Hola and it let me log in without any issues.

This was my first time ordering a game from through a VPN. After I placed my order for Shadow of Mordor GOTY, it said that my order will be under "Manual review". Made me feel really dirty.

Anyways, Will my order still go through or will it get cancelled?

Not only will your order be cancelled, but they'll keep the money and send someone to your home who'll anally violate you.

Is this different from the usual half-hour wait to get keys? Did you end up getting yours?

Got Painkiller Hell and Damnation for 795 coins on Tremor, but then I was hesitant to activate it, so I traded it via Barter.vg for Skullgirls + DLC, which is 1995 coins on Tremor. Damn, I feel like such a Brazilian Gamestop magician.

I had an "under review" once when I used a VPN for Putin pricing and it still went through. Just took a few hours.

And you didn't even have to go to Walgreens to pick up 3 boxes of Fruity Pebbles and trade in the box tops on a Mauritian holiday.

I wish I could team up with @MysterD some day. We will be invincible.

We just will need to fix some things in this year prototype.

Final Lara Croft Osiris Brodate:

So the game got a little better.  We finished it up last night.  As you progress the enemies get a little cooler, levels get more challenging/fun, as do the bosses.  Not the worst game in the world.  Had another glitch though where the event didn't trigger and we finally had to look up a guide and reset the checkpoint several times for it to progress.  If it wasn't for all that, I might be inclined to go back and play it to finish all the challenges.

Quick question: which do you prefer - Guardian of Light or Osiris?

Okay since there are some amateurs starting to Putin shop at GG a bit of a guide here

THE HALF HOUR WAITING PERIOD IS NORMAL EVEN IF YOU AREN'T USING A VPN SO STOP FREAKING THE fuck OUT. :p

DotVPN the first time wants you to put in an email address to sign up or some crap. Just give a spam account. If it doesn't work when running it sometimes try turning it off and then on again from the little icon up in the upper right of chrome (not disabling it in the extensions menu). If it still doesn't work I don't know what to tell you. Use hola I guess.

Make sure you are logged out of GG, clear any cookies relating to GG first then make sure your vpn set to Putinland is working correctly (Google is good for this) and then go to GG. Window shop if you want, throw some stuff in the cart. Do not check out yet.

I find it safer to buy with blue coins as it looks less suspicious (ie there's not some American credit card buying shit in 'Russia'). Also Blue Coins are set to the US Dollar at 1,000 BC = $1 so it's easier to convert the BC price when browsing then to go look up ruble conversion. Check the Russian price in BC, do the conversion (ex: 4,000 BC = $4) if the price seems good to you then go buy some blue coins. If you put the item in your cart it should stay there at the Russian price for a while so no rush.

At that point disable the vpn. The cookies will still have the site think you are in Russia for a while anyway. Do not leave it on and send your payment info over it unless you want some Russians charging up a bunch of shit to your card or hacking your Paypal. If you did previously buy with the vpn on then change your GG and Paypal passwords.

It might be easier to buy the blue coins in a second browser or you can open an icognito window in Chrome. This you want to do without any vpn and just log into your GG account as normal. Buy as much BC as you need.

Normally you can only buy in 5k ($5) increments but there's a way to buy in 1k increments. Add 5k BC to your cart, then use this link: http://www.gamersgate.com/shop/addtocart?sku=DD-CRED1000 if you forget the link just right click the button for adding 5K to the cart, copy that url, paste it and change the 5000 to 1000. Now add as many 1k packs as you need, then when you are done remove the 5k and checkout.

Go back to your Putin window (you already disabled the vpn, right?) login and your items should still be in the cart and cookies should still have you seeing Russian pricing. Enter checkout and choose blue coins.

Note that I think you have to be level 2 or something to use blue coins which most of us who have ever bought anything there ever should be, even if it was a long ass time ago. If you're not you can try to fart around with their silly achievements and junk http://www.gamersgate.com/achievements

Also on the Blue Coins every time you star rate a game you own you get 50 blue coins (5 cents) and if you write a review and they approve it you get 100 coins (10 cents). Just don't get drunk and plagiarize a review from elsewhere or they might ban you. At very least just star rate every game you get from them because eh, why the hell not?

And for people out there thinking ohmagerdz 2cumplikated, ma' hed hurtz. It's not. It sounds more complicated than it is and I kind of overexplained some stuff to For Dummiezize it. Once you do it it doesn't take long and ain't no big thang.

For nervous nancys the worst they can do is refund your money, revoke the key and ban your GG account. Their regular deals suck anyway so eh, plus you can always come back with a Bruticus2 account. :p

It really isn't. Especially if someone has already posted the approximate dollar/coins amount, it takes all of a minute.

Jokes on them because they sent me a key!

It took about 13 hours, but I got my key finally.

Thanks for the tips Motoki! I'll try this next time order from gamersgate. Now off to Mordor!

Edit: fuck the download is 42 GB on steam... I guess I'll be playing sometime tonight

Guardians of Light is the superior of the 2. No glitches and they didnt really improve anything in Osiris as far as gameplay and story goes. Overall map and puzzle design was better as well

I haven't played Osiris but GoL was outstanding. The very fact that anyone could be lukewarm on Osiris means it is a huge step back from GoL.

Also, Crypt of the Nerdodancer is incredibly good. I burnt out pretty quick on it and probably will never play it again but it is a solid, smart game.

What's the historical low on Grid Autosport?

It's currently £3.47 on Funstock

Use code OCT-COUPSITE-HOT20 to knock 20% off and get it for £2.78

Erm, yay?
I have seen a few copies of Autosport on the trading sites, so there probably was some ludicrously cheap/free deal out there somewhen. It also has quite a bit of DLC, but that season pass has been $7.50 multiple times at various sites.

Good enough deal to feed the impulses. Didn't buy anything yesterday and i'm getting the shakes.

edit: Bought. Also comes with a Steam inventory copy of DiRT Showdown!

I believe that is the historic low at (semi)legit sites by just a little bit. The other time that Funstock had it nearly that low (and was a bit of a fiasco because it was new then and they ran out of keys) it was £2.95 so this is a few pences and several farthings cheaper.

Speaking of European deals, the pre-order for Transformers Devastation is $26.24 / £17.29 / €23.41 at Amazon UK and $19.61 / £12.92 / €17.49 at Amazon Germany. Price on Steam is $49.99 / £31.99 / €49.99. Those cheaper Amazon UK/DE pre-orders are boxed retail. The game is Steamworks so it does give a Steam key but for us in the US, to use a console CAG cliche, shipping kills it.

There is no boxed retail US PC version because we actually live in the 21st century.

*Edited to add: At least for Germany, the page there specifies you do get the [customspoiler=pre-order bonus crap dlc]
JSrwgid.png
[/customspoiler] if you pre-order that boxed retail version. Amazon UK doesn't specify either way but I would assume the same applies.

*Edit 2: Game comes out Tuesday.

I'm not a huge fan of top down arpg perspective games and I suck at it as spoder and syntax can tell you. Someone else would possibly be a better judge of the game, but the steam discussions are full of nothing but complaints.

Looks like they're selling this sub: https://steamdb.info/sub/45434/apps/

Did you also get Dirt Showdown added to your game library?

Yeah, by default it adds both Autosport & Showdown to your library. In my case, having already owned Showdown, it gave me a spare inventory copy.
Interesting. Very good price for both games.

Too bad I can't drive. Dirt 3 pissed me off, it's too unforgiving. :(

Part of the joy of GoL was the mix of clever puzzles and actiony dodgy combat. RPG mechanics were dead last (And a pretty weak part of GoL in general.).

If the puzzles and action weren't tickling your noodle and you weren't thinking "Hey this is a clever little puzzle" or weren't refreshed by bullet dodging fun, you weren't having GoL quality fun.

I can understand if the obligatory chase sequences failed to thrill, but if the other two failed, you were playing a failure of a game.

At the very end, I'd say the last 2 main tombs and last 2 challenge tombs, the puzzles got pretty interesting and the boss fights got pretty fun, but leading up to that, it was pretty boring/easy puzzles and generic combat. I actually thought the game ended pretty soon too as I would have liked it more had it kept increasing in difficulty. I also thought the final boss battle was weak in a way, because you were sort of doing background combat while a NPC was doing the main combat with the final boss.

Gamersgate Level 2 Guide

  • Can I Keep Him? - On the left of the screen you're looking for a menu item called My Minion. Just pick one. It says it gives maybe a 5% discount on certain genres and it's a one time choice, so go for something you might use. I bet it's something stupid like 5% off full price, sales excluded though.
  • Captain, We Are Ready for Takeoff - Go to Profile Settings under Account Settings and post whatever info you want. You shouldn't have to fill it all out and I already had it unlocked which means you probably get it when you sign up. If not just add some random garbage on that page and see if it unlocks.
  • It Could Be 42... - Go to the FAQ page. It's listed under help. Make sure you're logged in.
  • Professional Cheapskate - Go to the sale page and pick 5 random games. Tick the checkbox for price drop alerts (under add to wishlist) on all five. Click on the My Alerts menu item (under My Library | My Wishlist on the left side). It should pop at that point, but it seems like it takes their system a while to recognize this one. You may have to wait a couple minutes or log out and log back in or just keep adding price alerts.
  • Talk Nerdy to Me - Sign up for the GG newsletter. Go to My Account | Account Settings | Account Information and tick the checkbox to receive the emails.

That should be enough to reach level 2 without buying anything. You will probably have to logout and log back in for it to make you level 2.

The Osiris puzzles weren't bad. Doing them six times before the game stops glitching and actually opens the next section got old in a hurry. Out of eight hours of game play, at least two were spent actively fighting the buggy mechanics where we had the puzzle solved but the game refused to react accordingly.

This is not necessarily the case.....Some people who buy get a "Black Edition" key and get Showdown....some other poor bastards (e.g. me), get a non-black Grid: Autosport key which only activates the one game.

P.S. I h8 u!

Doesn't matter anymore, assholes doubled the price as I was trying to check out. G2A has keys for $3.79 so around the same price. They have separate listing for the Black Edition though so there is no thrill of gambling for a Black Edition key.

At least you got the game. I was about to checkout and they raised the price.

Wow, I must have just scraped through before that... my order went through about 2 minutes before your post. You actually save $0.43 by buying from G2A, so at least it's a better deal than if you lost the gamble.
