Had my reservations, but now moving up my wishlist...

Someone on my friends list wrote a review and rated it well too.

Coming off of Platinum’s previous licensed collaboration with Activision, The Legend of Korra, there were many who were cautiously optimistic about Transformers: Devastation. Activision didn’t do much to dissuade the public either, as the game had a quiet launch this past week in between much bigger releases. However, I’m pleased to report that Devastation may be the sleeper hit of the holiday season, a character action game that lives up to Platinum’s history of excellence and a Transformers game designed from the ground up as a tribute to the 80s cartoon that started it all. There are missteps here and there, particularly when you’re doing anything besides punching and shooting Decepticons, but the core action of the game is a delight that shouldn’t be missed.

Want to know more? Check out my full review along with a Scouting Party First Impressions video over at TechRaptor.net! http://techraptor.net/content/transformers-devastation-review-optimal-prime

If you can find somebody in Kraut or Krumpet land to grab the boxed retail for you and send you the key, it's much cheaper that way for some odd reason. No boxed retail for NA though.

From what I've read, it's 30 FPS on PC/PS3/PS4 because of the seamless transition between the world map and battles which is new to the series. In most other Tales games, they're 30 FPS during the world map, and 60 fps during battles because it's not seamless.

It's the way the game was coded so it might not be possible to uncap the framerate without breaking the game mechanics. It sucks, but it's not like the console versions are any better. PC version should still be the best.. in theory.
Most likely this. Japanese devs in particular have this tendency to tie certain essential things in their game engines to the framerate for some reason. It makes unlocking FPS via modding a nightmare. I assume Zesty Tales will be one of those games.

And I'm also assuming that Tales of Symphonia for PC will be FPS locked because it's a port the PS3 remake which had a similar cap even though the original Gamecube version ran at 60 FPS.

Because you know, Bamco is lazy as fuck.

I don't get this. If the boxed version is 20 Euros, why the hell is a Steam key 40 Euros? Even the German Gamesplanet site has it for that price.
To be honest, from what I'm reading, this should have been marketed/priced as a budget game like Korra. But maybe they overpriced it for America because they knew a Transformers G1 game would get them way too many sales on its own? It's possible Europe doesn't have the nostalgia for it that we do, so they decided to give it a more appropriate price there.

It IS a budget game like Korra. It's something PlatinumGames worked on to pay the bills. Selling the game for 20 Euro on box, but 40 digitally, makes no goddamn sense at all.

What's worse?

THE GAME IS ONE THOUSAND PESOS IN MEXICO. THAT'S $61 DOLLARS.

Transformers has a loot grind and stat grind system far more pronounced than even MGR's. You should not play on Hard because you are not geared appropriately for hard and need to level up your equipment.

That is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what I want in an action hack and slash. Save that grind shit for the musou. Skill should be the king.

I would get Symphonia for sure if it was 60fps. Without it, they might still get my money if it has 4k support like Zestiria. I never preorder on PC, but I'm considering it just to increase the chances that the series will have a future on the platform. It's supposed to be one of the worst Tales games though and $50 is about 10 times more than I tend to spend on PC games. Hmm...

I hope Activision will lower the price quickly like they did with Korra. The other recent Transformers game has retained its high price for an awfully long time, though.

I haven't been looking too much into Zestiria yet but is really considered one of the worst? It looked pretty decent from the little bit I did see.

I think I read somewhere the German Box gave some pre order dlc, but no idea how to check that.

It's 17.49€, so if someone is interested you can see the price now and use currency converter.

Also for @Foxhack the pc steam code in Amazon Germany has the same price as gamesplanet or other digital places in euros, which is 40€.

MysterD wins this time.

What about it makes it one of the worst Tales games (combat, general gameplay, story and characters, etc)?

I'm considering pre-ordering it (if it reaches 100%), but my Tales Of experiences is pretty much limited to Graces F on the PS3 and I really didn't like it much. Combat and whatnot was fun, but the story and characters grated on my nerves until I just gave up like 20 or so hours into the game.

I'm sure I remember the German Amazon page did have the pre-order bonus listed on the page for retail before the game was released last Tuesday in the US. It was the same stuff you got for pre-ordering digital from Steam (and I assume elsewhere). It's this stuff

JSrwgid.png

I don't know if the retail boxes they have might still have the pre-order stuff of if that was a promo where the emailed the DLC to you or what though.

And yes, the digital at Amazon DE is priced much higher and more accordingly to the US PC digital and the console price than the boxed version is.

Also game.co.uk has the retail for 18 pounds similar to Amazon's UK's price but zavvi.co.uk has it for 40 pounds.

*Edit: also the supposed release dates are kind of all over the place with Amazon Germany giving November 13th for the retail (but digital out now), Game UK giving November 25th and Zavvi giving December 31st.

I'm sure I remember when I checked previously there were October release dates so possibly there is some delay with the European boxed retail PC release?

If Tranny Bots is that cheap retail in yurop why aren't russkies buying it up and showering us with scads of cheap codes like they did for Mad Max?

Unfunny fact: postage from Amazon Germany to Finland costs more than postage to USA. (not to mention, you don't have to pay VAT, which means ~20% additional discount to listed price).

Boxed retail release seems to have gotten delayed for some inexplicable reason. I'm sure it will show up on the so-called [customspoiler=<air quotes>shady sites</air quotes>]

Gonna join the camp that feels like this isn't really necessary. Pretty sure it's just an extra day, and as I posted in the XBL thread, I've already got my fill of it, and I imagine most people have too. There's only 2 MP game modes which only have 1 map each, and 1 Survival map that isn't even a complete level. Not necessarily infinite replayability aside from trying to hit the level cap (which is only 5) and getting all the items.

I had fun with it, but I feel like I ultimately had more with the R6 Beta (besides the initial matchmaking issues), and that I have less desire to buy Battlefront now than I did before (which is the opposite of the R6 beta's effect).

Good for those of you who have Monday off from work though.

It's $50 in the US on all platforms compared to Korra's $15. They are most certainly not treating it like a budget release like Korra, for whatever reason.

In non-Russian Robot news, I finally got that powerline adapter and installed it yesterday and WOW does it make a difference.  I still don't get the speeds I would if I was connected directly to the router, but I get like 10x the max speed I used to get on wireless and my connection isn't getting dropped all the time.  Hopefully, this will mean smoother sailing from now on during the bro events as I was always the one getting booted or knocked out.  If anyone else has wireless issues I recommend looking into one of these.  I got mine for a little cheaper getting it from Amazon Warehouse Deals, but it was new in box with everything.

MGS5 PC didn't come with a disc? No wonder they were able to release it 2 weeks early.
IIRC, MGS5 PC only came w/ on the disc the Steam game's EXE file and nothing else.

EDIT:

And, yep - it did.

http://www.pcgamer.com/metal-gear-solid-5-disc-seems-to-only-contain-steam-installer/

EDIT:

They might as well just not even waste the disc, if they gonna pull that kind of crap on those who want to buy from retail. While they should've supplied retail copies somehow with the entire game (whether on multiple DVD's or one BR, thumb-drive, whatever) - if they were being that lazy, they could've at least filled that one disc-up to it max and let the gamer DL the rest.

What a waste of a DVD-disc.

So basically just for you and then all of Europe.
I rarely buy PC games from retail anymore, since their deals often suck.

Only time really is when there's some kind of blow-out sale or major clearance on PC games.

EDIT:

From what I've been reading here on Reddit, it looks like this lack of disc issue w/ this game is only is happening here in the USA.

Sounds like Europe gets the game on-disc.

Because people residing on certain continents haven't gotten the memo that it's the 21st century and still insist on a box.
Its not entirely their fault though. There's more than a few countries with shitty internet infrastructure and minimal access to proper broadband. Heck, I remember when GTA V was released and people that bought the boxed version were complaining about the day one patch b/c their internet in places like India and Brazil sucked.

If they live in some backwater place where their internet isn't good enough to download a game patch, then they've got much bigger problems to worry about..

Yea, this is me too pretty much. I actually bought a retail version a few months ago. Need for Speed Rivals was binned at 1.99 locally, I bought it and activated the Origin key and that was it, I tossed the case with the discs into a box in my basement. I think Ive had literally 2 discs in my current rig since I got it last August and both of those were OS related.

I like discs.... I miss them.  Not having a PC section to browse makes me sad.  Sure you can google or Steam it... but I can think of a ton of games I have on disc that would otherwise not still exist.  (well maybe some on some abandonware sites)

For real? You miss having to swap multiple discs to install games and having to use modified .exe's just to run the game without a disc? I don't see any benefit. Oh, and additional DRM was more rampant when discs were a thing

Yeah, that's what I did w/ Diablo 3 (and probably a few other titles).

When D3 was $10 on sale from Toys R Us - I bought the game at retail; I had already did (some of) the download for D3 from the Starter Ed a while back; I activated the full-version key; opened-up Launcher; and let it just download the difference.

Again, this is not entirely fair. I dont disagree that if your internet sucks you should probably just be a console gamer at this point considering game sizes, but theres more than a few cities in the world that are not considered "backwater" but still lack access to decent broadband. Hell, there's US cities that have big problems with bottlenecks and internet traffic.

If the demand wasn't great enough, the publishers would do away with boxed copies altogether. Obviously, they're a dying format, but the need still remains for some people.

Retail needs to use some kind of different format here for the PC, if they're going to sell retail-boxes w/ games there.

Doesn't seem like BR got adopted for many reasons (it's a Sony-format; Microsoft and Sony don't get along; HD-DVD which Microsoft lost to BR; PC gamers gravitated to downloading games b/c of much better sale) and some games are just getting really big in size.

Maybe they should just toss games on a USB thumb-drive at retail that is big enough to hold the entire game. Putting that in a nice small box should take up less space at retail than a slim-DVD case - so, that should appeal to retailers that want to stock some PC games physically.

I'm sorry.. but if they lack good enough broadband to download games/patches, that to me is the definition of backwater. Halfway decent internet is pretty close to a necessity these days. We're not in the 56k era anymore

Much of the U.S. is "backwater" in terms of internet service, but still better in terms of quality of life compared to India sooooooooo........

'Murica?

If your internet sucks you are either poor, live in the middle of nowhere because you hate people, or you live in some 3rd world country

there are no arguments to any of that

I can't even remember when I last had DVD drive connected or used one.

I actually even took* SATA DVD-drive  from school's computer, but never connected it. Not that I have free SATA slots on MB or SATA expansion card, so there's that too.

* with permission, of course

I had to actually use my DVD-drive recently b/c I bought for $2 X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged PC from GameStop - and it has a disc-check. It would've been nice if that was a Steam-version, but it wasn't.

But for $2 - can't really complain too much, I guess. Fun game, none-the-less.

any games that can't be purchased without HUNTING for the 6 remaining copies in the United States are subject to www.shadytorrentsite.com

which don't require discs

To be honest I almost regret getting Mad Max that cheap. It is so much better than TPP it isn't funny.

Can one even really compare an open-world auteur-style stealth game (MGSV: TPP) against a open-world non-stop straight-forward action-fest (Mad Max)?

They just seem like much different types of games to me.
