Bloodborne - The Old Hunters - November 24th, 2015

Made Vom....was whupping him but the 5 billion children got to me eventually.  Had Vom at 1/3 health.  DOH!  At least it is an easy jaunt back....no on there to help but maybe I'm not leveled up enough...think 59.  Too low to find anyone to help?

You can always increase your level by five and see if there are any changes. Otherwise, it could be that no one is there at that time.

How cheesy is it that you can
kill the Beast sitting outside the Ward with poison knives
without leaving the Cathedral Ward?

Think it's back to Vom for me tonight.  Second attempt....would love to hit harder but I need bigger stones to upgrade further or I get to do a lot of grinding.  Guess I kill spiders instead.  Where's claptrap when I need him for a humorous sidekick?

I think I need to drink when I try to help people.  First one in the forest went fine.....however the person who didn't understand that they had to initiate the Vom fight before I could join was annoying.  Killed everything else there....person goes and jumps off the bridge 3 times to try and get me to walk through the fog with them.  I thought the fireball was going to make its return to my gaming world on that.

And a few levels did help.

Well I took the plunge.  I've been eyeing BB/DS games for so long.  I support them, I've bought every game on PC thus far but it sank to the backlog.

Well I got a great deal on the collector's edition of BB (GCU+Movers+GC+Reward Cert) so I paid about $25 after taxes out of pocket.

I'll have the game sometime next week (sold out on the island so I had to ship it).

Looking forward to this!  Will definitely be cooping a lot!

Any tips for a brand new player (spoiler free)?

1 dont give up, those first few hours or even days can be punishing

2 co op is good and all, but it makes boss fights super easy. Dont give up on solo'ing boss fights too early. More satisfaction from doing it alone.

3 sometimes its better just to run past enemies, not fight them all.

4 talk to people, windows/doors with lights by them as much as you can.

5 Not everyone is an enemy, proceed with caution.

6 revisit areas.

7 Gun parry can be your best friend, learn how to use it.

8 explore explore explore

Learn to gun parry early....like start out learning that immediately.  Easier then rather than trying to figure it out later when your brain may have you set in your ways.

Anyone else have issues last night online or know of any?  For giggles I rang the bell for Vom and twice in a row, less than 15 seconds after I rang it, it kicked me offline and out of the game to the title screen.  Stopped there but that's 2 insight I cannot use elsewhere...disappointing to say the least.

The game isn't hard if you're relatively decent at learning controls and patterns. Parrying is super overpowered and can take almost anything out, even bosses. I think there were only a couple enemies that I wasn't able to parry.

How does it compare to Dark Souls 1/2? I'm honestly going to probably play them in reverse order. I'll go from this to the Dark Souls 2 rerelease then play DS1 with mods on a gaming PC when I get a new one later in the year/next year.

Also, overpowered parrying made me think of Windwaker haha

I'm still not too great with gun parrying but with all the blood vials you can collect after I learned to be patient it doesn't seem impossibly difficult. I died a lot early but now I can clear entire waves with little difficulty. Still early in the game though

It's funny like that. I was getting my ass handed to me time and tine again. One day the game just seemed to slow down for me. Now, unless I rush or not pay attention I can stay alive.

I'm not a huge fan of the Souls games, and only picked this up because people wouldn't stop talking about it. I loved the atmosphere and the setting in general. They give you more story than Souls games, so that's cool.

I actually wrote a review on a site that a couple of us CAGs started, if you want to read all my thoughts on it:

http://invertedaccess.com/2015/04/13/bloodborne-review/

Got my strategy guide today.  Thing is heavier than either of the DS guides.  Gonna sit down and go through it in a bit.  Real curious to see what I may have missed (especially if there is anything crazy like the "No Deaths" or "Dont light any bonfires" rings from DS2)

*EDIT*

Well, read through the guide, I'm actually quite surprised in how much of that game I was able to figure out on my own.  It seems crazy that it expects you to do Cainhurst at level 45 (I was 90 when I first went there and was getting my butt kicked).

I'd say the biggest thing I would have never thought to try involves doing a gesture in front of a non-aggressive enemy for 30 seconds to get a 30% bonus blood echoes rune. I know it was posted fairly quickly after the game came out, but I have no clue how one would think to do that.

Looks like it is time to finally finish this all up!

I loaded this up the other night to show my buddy and I was all over the place with the controls haha I have been playing Scholar of the First Sin and so my controls are all old DS mentally not Bloodborne. I kept healing and shooting on accident haha

So I just sit down in front of an enemy that won't charge? Would the wheelchair w/flamethrower guy in the house of central yarnham work or do they have to aggro?

Also loving the game. The first two hours were PAINFUL. I made it to Old Yarnham and started using the bell to help other people which was an easy way to farm blood echoes and insight. I'm around level 24 now and leveling up is gradually slowing down.

I use the cane, pretty nice. Thanks for the tips on gun parry. Still mastering it but it's not too complicated.

Looking forward to getting CoOp going with my buddies but I progress my self solo.

Its a specific enemy in the Nightmare of Mensis that you have to do the gesture in front of.

Anyone else have issues with being dropped from the server tonight?  Every time I rang the small or sinister bell I was disconnected within a minute.  Ruins the fun of wanting to get a few more insight points.

Micolash is one cheesy MF.  Get him down to where I have to drop into the sealed off area....drop in and he casts his spell before I can even get up and one hits me.  Seriously WTF is up with that?

That is all....

uh, micolash is one of the easiest bosses in the game. nothing he does should be 1 hitting you.

Uh, it could have been multiple hits from his magic spell....I really don't know. Everything was easy until I was getting up and keeled over from his spell. There is only one way into that room from above...rolled in, kneeled down after falling, and was dead before I could move.

Not upset, just saying that the death was cheesy since there is no other way in.

He does have an AOE and a multi-hit spell which can one-shot you even with 50 vitality. They can be prevented if you are near him to bait his physical attacks.

On my first play-through Micolash killed me 2-3 times before I finally got him. That Soul Barrage move he does always one shot me. Second time around I was playing a BOM character so I stayed close to him and he never got a single cast off.

Think I'm doing some chalice dungeons and done with this.  Helped someone with the Moon fight, which I thought was far easier than the end boss.  Sort of disappointed at the end and I really do not have the desire to do a NG+ run, which I'm sure I'd get slaughtered in anyway.

Too bad I wasn't streaming my meeting up on the 3 watchers in the chalice dungeon tonight.  That would have been a good laugh for several people.  I wasn't expecting to be facing them when it happened and completely forgot that I had a torch in my left hand.  Death came as I was trying to "shoot" the torch a couple of times.  Only on the final blow did I realize I had the torch in my hand.  Priceless.

Having a bear of a time with Ebrietas.. and here I was, cruising along, making mincemeat of all the mandatory and optional bosses since my initial trouble with the Cleric Beast. Oy.

Bloodborne expansion coming, Sony confirms

Bloodborne won’t end with the base release. Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter tonight that an expansion to the From Software-developed PlayStation 4 action RPG is coming.

“So I have been asked by many people if we are making DLC for Bloodborne,” Yoshida said in a tweet. “I can say… An expansion is coming. More info later this year.”

might be the first DLC i ever buy.

I defeated the Shadows of Yarnham, which was an entertaining but rather easy battle (a bit of overleveling + the cane is beastly against them).

Making some progress in the game!  I try to get to a shortcut/boss every time I play, but playtime is limited.

I like exploring and ringing the bell to enter other peoples games.  I make some progress then enter into the other games and get plenty of blood echoes.

I've done a hit VIT+Skill build though I am starting to boost Stam to prepare for the BoM.

I think I'm going to make an Arcane + Ludwig/Fire/Bolt build which should be fun.

PS4 Exclusive Bloodborne’s Patch 1.04 Detailed; DLC Details Coming After E3

On Monday Sony Computer Entertainment and From Software will release Bloodborne‘s Patch 1.04, and the Japanese arm of the publisher held a livestream on Nico Nico with SCE Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida, Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa and PR Yasuhiro Kitao illustrating the changes coming with the patch.

Kitao-san explained the following updates, promising that detailed patch notes will be released on the game’s news page on Monday:

  • Password matching can now be done regardless of level.
  • Password matching can now be done even if registered to a different oath.
  • Quicksilver bullets and blood vials can now be stored up to 600 (the previous limit was 99) in the storage in Hunter’s Dream.
  • Weapons and hunter tools have been tweaked, it will be mostly buffs.
  • A bug of the Rifle Spear has been fixed.
  • A bug with Blood Gem Imprints has been fixed.
  • Boss rewards in the Chalice Dungeons will be improved, they will now drop blood gems randomly.
  • Chalice dungeons will now include Blood Stone Shards at Depth 1, Twin Blood Stone Shards at Depth 2, Twin Blood Stone Shards and Blood Stone Chunks at Depth 3, Blood Stone Chunks at Depth 4 and Blood Stone Chunks and Blood Rocks at Depth 5.
  • Other bugs have been fixed.

Kitao-san also encouraged fans to look forward to detailed info about the previously teased DLC for the game, that will be shared after E3.

Maintenance for the patch will be conducted on Monday between 4 and 7 AM EDT.

I beat the story! :D  Got the special ending and completed all the quests that seemed important and took out all the optional bosses.  Beat the finale on level 90 or so.

Started chalice dungeons and breezed through Depth 1-3 alone with little trouble.  About to start depth 4 but probably going to start doing some co op.  It's a boring slog right now.  Gotta get that Plat.

Currently level 165 on New Game Plus. Love this game to death. I've found it hard to get into my friends games via resonance bells but if anyone wants some help on a boss run I'd be interested.

One of the best games I've played in years.

Probably the hardest boss battle in the game. I recommend overhead strikes with ludwigs blade and just playing the hell out of the fight. Practice and timing is the most important aspect of all this games boss battles. Some people say you can bring her to the entrance to make the fight easier but I found that just made it more difficult.

Thanks.. I hadn't been able to play in weeks and finally got her a few nights ago.

I used a short-mid strategy of getting her to head smash and then moved in, with tons of dodging in between. And Bolt paper. I only got greedy when I knocked her down to about 1/4 health - after the next opening, I went in for the kill. She'd burned me quite a few times around that point and I wasn't having it (of course, I'd gone in for the kill around that point before and didn't survive).

She's a total pain.. not looking forward to the Chalice Dungeon rematches (yes, deliberately plural!).

Can finally move on to the Nightmare...

Anyone up for helping me with the Defiled Dungeon and, if I need it, the Ihyll?  So close to platinum.  Just let me know when and we can set a time up!  Defiled is major BS haha.

Additionally, I'm starting an Arcane build (going to max him around level 90-100) for PvP and for helping friends through NG.  I plan to make him mostly a support character able to unleash some brutal attacks with Tonitrus.

Ive never heard of them, but Gecco announced 2 12.5" hunter statues. They're pretty cool looking (especially the bloody one) but the $300 pricetag (before shipping & whatever additional import costs there may be) is a bit hefty.

http://www.jp.playstation.com/op/bloodborne/news/2015/07/statue.html
I pre-ordered the LE Blood ver. when it went up earlier. :D Those will be limited to 1,200 pieces worldwide. Also, Gecco's figures are very high quality and worth the price.

I'm down for that or simply running through the game. Weekends and evenings work best. MSG me and we can set something up.

The expansion, The Old Hunters, just revealed...looks pretty rad! Releases 11/24 in Japan, hopefully US and elsewhere, too.

Trailer on Youtube.

VO is in English. New areas. New weapons. A bow? Beast mode? Holy moley.

Bloodborne: Patch Details, New Screenshot from The Old Hunters

Hello, Bloodborne fans. The brand new nightmare, The Old Hunters expansion (which requires the full game), will be unleashed on November 24th. It brings with it a host of new content and improvements, but it’s not the only exciting news for Bloodborne. An upcoming patch will offer all players exciting new features in the original game, including The League, additional co-op NPC hunters, and more.

The League is a band of Hunters who have taken an oath and are bound by a single purpose. By aligning yourself to The League, led by a mysterious figure in a constable’s garb and bucket helmet, you can assist other players online in the game and compete in The League’s online rankings leaderboard.

In addition to The League, players will also be able to use The League cane and summon co-op NPCs within the game, perfect for tackling challenging areas and bosses.

To whet your appetite for the upcoming expansion, here is a sneak preview of one of the many brand new weapons available as part of The Old Hunters. Behold the Holy Moonlight Sword. Do you have what it takes to wield its mysterious power?

Don’t forget you can pre-order The Old Hunters here before November 24th to get a bonus PS4 Theme. Or if you haven’t played Bloodborne yet, get the game plus pre-order the DLC for just $49.99 right here.

As a special treat for all you hardcore Bloodborne players who have already earned your Platinum Trophy, or are close to unlocking it: in the very near future we will be sending out voucher codes for an exclusive PS4 theme to Platinum Trophy holders. There’s no other way to get your hands on this theme other than to master the game.
