You still kill the vessel each time like always. It actually looks pretty simple to do. The hard part is you have to drop the Ogres as soon as they come out of the ground all 16 times so the orbs are all stacked together 4 to a spot. If you are doing hard mode you have to also drop the knights pretty fast. Once the brand is stolen you stagger him like always and than instead of running to your orbs you stay in the aura and kill the ads. Than since you did no damage to him you dont run from the bombs at all you go straight to the shade to kill him. So you do that three times and on the fourth stagger you detonate your four stacked up bombs he goes from 100% to 1% and than go to the end to DPS him till he floats away.Oryx challenge is to take him from 100% health to 1% health at one time by detonating 16 bombs at once. How anyone figured that out is beyond me as I didn't even know you could keep the bombs from one phase to the next. Doesn't the vessel detonate them?
Just have someone on Nightstalker Tether the bastard. That is what I did when I was on my hunter earlier. We haven't been killing the vessel so I guess we'll have to now. He usually just strolls into our aura.
But still, there's a chance he'll get to the stacked bombs before he is killed. I guess the idea, though, is to get the bombs to stack up right where the ogres emerge from the water. So that shouldn't be close to the vessel I guess.
It does sound like once you get the hang of it, this could be the go to strategy anyway even without challenge mode. We were having a hell of a time with detonations last night for some reason.
3 of coins don't apply to the Flayers in the Nightfall if that is what you are talking about. Plus it only increases exotic engram chances not strike specific loot. Thanks Renegade Moose & Io for the daily heroic yesterday. The infinite vector is sweet...sadly no cloak drop even wth the 3 of coins popped but I'm sure I'll be sweeping up dust palace again when I'm pumping out more lumens.
Did some dreadnaught patrolling with Io as well, I'll say the slight light increase certainly help be the catalyst for more light drops later that day. 281 and rising. At this rate I should hit 300 before weeks end. Woo hoo!
Also finding swarm grenades in crucible are a great way to surprise unsuspecting victims and getting lots of post mordom points.
...and found out today I need to dismantle an exotic for the material to infuse an exotic.
My bad. This one should work:link won't work for me.....curse you internets.
That was the Nightfall (which is considerably harder than the Daily Heroic, especially at your light levelThanks Renegade Moose & Io for the daily heroic yesterday. I wouldn't mind clearing two more Nightfalls for more chances at the other cloaks (I have the Void one).Cleared 2 HM Challenges, what a joke. 2 320 Primaries that were infused and now I have 2 320 Last Words.2 for 2 on Hard Mode Helmets this week as well as 2 for 2 on the exotic chest after Golgo. Obsidian Mind and SUROS.
Nightfall drops were poop but I finally got the Arc Flayer Cloak. Will be grinding nightfall until I have all 3 cloaks. So if anyone needs help with Nightfall, hit me up.
A few of my buddies did that too. It makes zero sense to do that IMO. Though most people would think I'm crazy for leveling up 2 Last Words to 320. Debating using the next 320 on my MIDA....A couple of the people I was with infused their Touch of Malice to 320 but since I only ever use that in the Raid, and I am doing just fine with mine at 310 through all the hard mode challenges, there really isn't any point to that until I get all my PvP and other PvE stuff done first. I'd rather level up my Zhalo Supercell before that for PvE for example.
In other news I got a vangard ghost shell from my runSomeone in the PS4 thread is saying that a buddy of his got a racing pack from the Nightfall with one of the sparrows in it! I'm definitely running my other 2 Nightfalls now this week!
And... another guy just reported getting a Fall 2015 Emote Mystery Bag from the Nightfall. Damn.
My bad. This one should work:

The reason I 320-ed my Touch and raid weapons is because that small amount of additional damage might just be the deciding factor between completing the raid/checkpoint and spending another hour with a random LFG group. When randoms inspect you, it looks better for you with 320 raid weapons. It's funny, I agree that you shouldn't put much into Touch beyond 310 and yet I did just that... only because of Oryx challenge mode. If it wasn't for that, I'd still have my Touch at 310. I need to run it on my alts and since they're a bit weaker, I wanted as much light as I could muster. Plus I'll be running with friends that have alts in a similar situation, so I'm just pretty much stacking things in my favor. The reason I 320-ed my Touch and raid weapons is because that small amount of additional damage might just be the deciding factor between completing the raid/checkpoint and spending another hour with a random LFG group. There are no other PvE activities that really require 320 weapons. And the damage curve is generous enough in trials/iron banner that it wouldn't make that huge of a difference.
I love this new Oryx challenge and I think this will be our main strategy for Oryx from now on. No need to deal with people dying while returning from blights. No need for mortar phase.
True, but when I start a Raid, I don't have ToM equipped anyway. I have my 318 Smite of Merain, a 320 secondary, and a 320 machine gun (and a 320 ghost). So I think that looks pretty good to LFG peopleThe reason I 320-ed my Touch and raid weapons is because that small amount of additional damage might just be the deciding factor between completing the raid/checkpoint and spending another hour with a random LFG group. Black Spindle I did push to 320 because it seems like at Warpriest/Golgoroth you want to maximize damage more so than even on Oryx. Plus I had lots of extra 320 stuff in the secondary slot that I have yet to get in my primary. Hell, I now have a 320 Conspiracy Theory (for PvP), a 320 1000-Yard Stare (both for PvP and for Sisters/Oryx when I'm using ToM as my exotic), a 320 Black Spindle, and a 320 Harrowed Defiance of Yasmin (the one challenge mode drop that I kept). And I have several others around 317 (Telesto, a void 100-Yard Stare, an arc Tao sniper, and some other shotguns). The secondary slot is the easiest, IMO, to max stuff out in though.Feel the same way about Black Spindle since I only seem to use it for WP and GoGo. I leveled that up only because I had nothing else that I wanted to increase.
You're going to be someone's BFF shortly w/the Refer-a-friend promo. So definitely find a mentor who's willing to take you around for a bit before activating since you need to link you accounts on bungie net. In which you have 7 days to do something together and unlock, then the expiration date on the promo is lifted and you both can play and progress at your leisure. So, I just bought Taken King edition after putting like 10 hours into the base game and selling it a while back. I'm worried that I'm going to have to spend 50+ hours grinding to get my character even close to a level playing field with everyone else. Is there any truth in that assumption? What do you guys recommend, just going through the story first then seeing where I'm at? I might want to play through a bit this weekend and get back into crucible, even though I sucked at it in the past, but I'll probably just stick to MGS for a bit longer before I commit to destiny. But any help and tips for a newcomer to taken king would be great. I'd love to be able to play with you guys at some point.
Edit: also is there any benefit to redeeming taken king right away or should I finish the base game first? Not sure if it does or doesn't add stuff for a player in my position, and I'd like the option to sell it if I want to in the future if the answer is no
Yeah, I really have no idea what you'll have access to without activating Taken King but as xp100 said you should get in on the sparrow racing ASAP since it ends on the 29th.Edit: also is there any benefit to redeeming taken king right away or should I finish the base game first? Yep, sparrow racing counts as a Crucible win as long as you simply finish - you can be in last place. I noticed yesterday that the weekly crucible bounties from Shaxx unlocked on all my characters (after I ground the crucible quest line on my Warlock for so many hours just a few weeks ago). One of the weeklies is to win 7 matches. Just do 7 races and it's done. You'll like this Moose - I got a 305 ghost shell from one of my weekly crucible bounty dropsI thought this thread was dead! Turns out Tapatalk is just broken again and not giving me notifications.
I'm on the last leg of my SRL quest. Hopefully it isn't too tough. I can almost always manage to get in the top three, but have only finished first a couple times. Is there something I'm missing to the racing too? It seems like other players have no problem shoving me around and throwing me off course, but when I try to do the same I just slide under them.
I hit rank 3 and finished the SRL quest the first week on my warlock and got some great drops after that, so keep at it. Getting those first place wins without a fireteam to "help" was rough though and took a lot of luck. As for tips, there's really no trick to it. i found, the more I tried to find shortcuts or interfere with other racers, the worse I did. This Paul Tassi article has some great advice that is totally spot-on: http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2015/12/12/how-to-be-less-awful-at-destinys-sparrow-racing/I thought this thread was dead! It is in the Director screen on the very bottom left where the Weekly Crucible normally is.I can't find the racing playlist. It's supposed to be in crucible right? I talked to whoever for the quest but now i cant find anything else
Roughly speaking, legendaries get 80% of the infusion value while exotics get 70%. But if you are within 5 or 6 the legendary will get the full value and within 4 or 5 the exotic will - but just use the calculator you found to be sure. We need to get you through the Taken King story missions.319 Racer's Scarf ! (woo hoo)
314 Helmet
I threw some strange coins at Xur and got the burnt marshmallow hunter's helmet...which iirc is bought at base 280 defense, I infused it w/a purple racing helm with a 310 or 311 rating. The Achlyophage Symbiote went to 300, then I realized the formula for upgrading items isn't a direct swap of light so much when you're upgrading an exotic but some average based on rarity and some other number.
You will need to do regular and heroic strikes as part of a quest. But those have matchmaking so you'll never be solo. Raids, on the other hand are a different story. Maybe we can get a CAG crew together to run you through those. You should be able to do the new one once you are around light level 300 - which you should easily be by the time you finish the Taken King story/quests.I'll make a point to try and finish TTK storyline by this weekend, minus any strikes and raids cause...I don't think I can do that solo w/my gear...yet.
Wait, what? I've never heard of either of these. Elaborate please!ANYWAY. I decided to hop on my poor lonely Titan and mess with her afterwards AND HOLY POOP. I had gotten the Twilight Garrison exotic chestpiece from an engram on my Hunter and had just tossed it in the Vault knowing I would likely not touch it for a long while since I haven't been playing enough to play with all 3 characters and on top of that my Titan is my least favorite....
Now if the Warlock ever actually gets the Astrocyte Verse I suppose I will have all three with amazing mobility options!
I've been taking a much more zen approach to SRL now...I think I caught myself saying there is no spoon while trying to maintain 1st. Now it's been a lot more top 3 but I still find myself being in the lead for 2 laps then suddenly everyone gets better and I drop to 3rd or 5th. I did manage to pull a 1st place last night and was handsomely rewarded with a 320 helmet. I'm surprised I'm still getting new shaders and horns every so often. His second point is critical: Just ignore other racers.
A 320 helm - that still eludes me... I did manage to grind out the 2 more wins my Hunter needed tonight. I got the last one pretty much on my last attempt (here at 6am). For my trouble I got a horn package again (and no sparrow with it like my friend got). Then there was Salvage. I didn't know the game will mercy the other team and end it for you early...my only regret was dying once. I thank my teammates for being on point as well as well as them both flying that Queen's funky 3 prong looking ship making it look like they were escorting me to the Salvage playlist. hehehe.
Did some story missions, unlocked the Nightstalker subclass and now i'm up to 295 light. Tonight is Xbox SRL racing, not sure what every race has a trophy but I hope that means better drops or an emblem just for participating during the 2 hour event.
So far I have one win on my class S. The finish without wrecking was easy. I'm not trying terribly hard either. With the holidays I don't have a ton of time to be on and when I am it is between this and Battlefront. That game is just a lot of fun for me even though I'm not great at it (I am getting better). It looks like lag is more prevalent in SRL. It could be that everybody is traveling in a pack VS being spread out in Crucible, but I think in the majority of my games there has been at least one person that is teleporting all over the track.Yeah, I really have no idea what you'll have access to without activating Taken King but as xp100 said you should get in on the sparrow racing ASAP since it ends on the 29th.
And definitely do the Refer-A-Friend thing with someone here. Looks like Moose found someone. Who else needs a link friend? I haven't seen Glock very active recently but I'm sure he'd do it.

As for Sparrow Racing, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. On my warlock I actually managed to get 2 wins on my Class S and then just couldn't get the third. Vendetta and his friends were boosting and got me the 3rd win that way. I got the pink sparrow from that package so that was nice.
Apparently if you hit Rank S on subsequent characters it is a "mystery package" which contains either a Sparrow package or a Horn package - basically one of the two things you can buy from Eververse with real money. The Horn package has a chance at a special sparrow - I have a friend who got one from it. So I'm on my Class S on my Titan but I'm finding it much harder to win. I want to try it during the day on the weekend to see if it is easier.
It seems that if I run a really good race (for me that is in the 4:20-4:30 range) there is always a guy who finishes in 4:10. When there isn't a guy who's that great then I finish around 4:40-4:50 and someone beats me with a 4:30. I can never put a good run together with an average group of competitors. I don't want to grind too much on my second and third characters because I want to farm helmets/class items and can only do that on my Warlock who is at rank 3 and does not need to win matches to get stuff.
As for shoving people around, I really don't know. I think most of the time people are just trying to hit the gates and not actively bully people. I raced with some friends last night and they kept saying I was pushing them around but really all I'm doing is trying to drive straight, hit gates, and not crash. I didn't even notice them being there most of the time.
I'm still enjoying the racing but I think it's because I only do about 2 - 3 races at a time, maybe 4 if we all more or less finish quicker than usual...then I do a story, pvp, and come back to racing. Hopefully by event's end I'll be doing Nightfalls and raids w/you guys and get a sweet helmet drop to infuse all these helmets into, otherwise I'm going to have a 320 racing helmet that functionally isn't as useful in combat as it is for racing.A 320 helm - that still eludes me... I did manage to grind out the 2 more wins my Hunter needed tonight. I got the last one pretty much on my last attempt (here at 6am). For my trouble I got a horn package again (and no sparrow with it like my friend got). Oh well...
Now it is just grinding for the 320 items. Blah. I did one Nightfall last night and it netted me 19 strange coins, which at least was better than the 295 ghost and weapon the other guys got.
For now I just want my primary wpn to not be a blue hand cannon or be under 299.What primary did you guys/ would you guys really want to be at 320?
<wall of text about boob job>
I love how I basically was all but done with Destiny just a few weeks ago and yet here I still am... damn you Bungie!!
