Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

BTW something random but if a figure series will be exclusive don't buy into it....haha I bought into the Seven Deadly Sins figure series and yes finally finishing those...so expensive...but I love the artist. Sorry for the random comment but just saying it has been a very expensive series though the figures are quite big and are keeping their value easily.

Think i'll pre-order Beats Blades Haruka though i'm unsure about it....guess i'll see if I buy future Alicesoft titles.

Started Arslan: Warriors of Legend tonight. From what I played so far, its one of the best Warrior's games I have played in a long time (Other than Dragon Quest Heroes).

Loving the story mode the most, its got an awesome mix of anime and CG cutscenes, and its actually a pretty damn interesting story. (So much so that I'll probably go back and watch the Anime)

It might not matter to you that things get removed and edited. But it matters to others, and they have the right to know.

Just because you feel lucky doesn't mean everyone else does. And it shouldn't be stuff that needs to be removed, so why remove it? If the cowboy outfit was so offensive, why keep it in the artbook? There is no rhyme or reason, only leaning more to the fact, it's a slippery slope, the more people who allow it.

And even more so, it's actual art getting removed.

Butchered localizations like FE:Waifustorm and BS create fan translation patches which means I get can translated games without paying for them and with a clean conscience.

So yes, by all means, keep ing up localizations with all the localizers weird little hangups. It works wonders for my bottom line.

Not the first in a while. The other is Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs Force for PSVita. However, that one didn't do so good.

Gundam Breaker 3 plays like the other Extreme Vs games but ala Gundam Build Fighter style. You're basically fighting with Gunpla.

First just pointing out the big word here is Artbook the emphasis being ART. Some people like to argue that video games aren't form of art, but it's a little harder when the actual word is in the product's definition.

Second so the thing that was so bad before that needed to be removed from the actual game(the tomahawk class) is being left in the artbook and the awful thing now that must be removed is one of the female characters has her arms tied with a red ribbon... There's no rhyme or reason to any of it anymore and their just hiding behind the blanket of "localization" as a excuse.

This is why some people have a problem when the word censor is thrown about. It really has become just censoring for censors sake now. Seriously are they just throwing darts at a board on what is deemed to be censored now?

My favorites were like Gundam Zeonic Front and Gundam Encounters in Space, even though they are vastly different. I would say Zeonic Front comes first for me.

Although, most people pre-order them well in advance before any news of censoring is even reported, and by the time the news does come out, the pre-orders are already sold out, and the game has been deemed "rare", so people are begrudgingly keeping their copy to flip instead.

I personally don't care either way about the censoring since I'm getting the game anyways, but it sure is fun to pile on to the discussion. ^__________^

While I certainly approve of voting with your wallet, the challenging thing about it is that there is no nuance. Nintendo has no way of telling the "I'm not interested in the game" non-purchases from the "I don't approve of the changes" non-purchases from the "I'm waiting to get it cheaper a year from now" non-purchases. And while I don't like them changing things, it's not offensive enough to push me into not purchasing it. But that decision in no way disqualifies me or anyone else who purchases the game from complaining and/or attempting to send the message in other, more nuanced ways.

I agree with your sentiment. Pretty much sums up why I pretty much stay away from EA releases & Ubisoft. The problem for people is stuff like that are becoming the industry standard for console gaming and the consumer isn't given any other options. It's coming down to you either take it as it is or you get nothing at all. Asking someone to entirely walk away from something that you find enjoyment in is hard.

If the consumer had other options to obtain the product, say in this case a option to import a copy of Bravely 2nd from another country that was in their language and didn't have the censored restrictions, but the big N still thinks region locking is a necessity. If I wanted to go that route I would have to buy a whole another 3ds, but then that comes back to that your only rewarding them with another hardware sale for this boondoggle.

Also when it comes to Nintendo products you well know a very good chunk of those preorders are just people trying to flip them for a profit and not people who actual care about the content at all.

People suggesting that we shouldn't complain when there is a problem are actively contributing to it.

If you have a problem with the game but buy it anyway, that's bad. If you have a problem and don't buy it, the company will just chalk it up to disinterest in the series - UNLESS you specifically communicate to them the reason you're not buying the game.

The only proper way to incite change is to vote with your wallet, make sure they know you did, and inform anyone interested as well to spread the word. That's what I'm doing with Bravely Second, even though it's killing me because I love the first game. There is too much at stake here for me to abandon my principles for one game.

At least Bandai did the right thing and patched in additional modes (Free Play and I forget the other), with more to come.

Even if we don't like it, there is a reason companies do the things they do. If people who don't like it will still buy their products anyway, that means they have free reign to do whatever the hell they want with no consequences. That's the best case scenario for them, and worst case scenario for the consumer.
