Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

This is the Japanese niche thread. No one here has an Xbone.

Around here, popularity is like PS3 > Vita > 3DS > PS4 > everything else.

We can always do one per Sony system per month, and people can choose.
Without a 360 you'd miss ToV. You gotta have X1 just in case.

My Wallet is screaming at all these prospects.... With all the Limited Editions and Possible Kick Starters I feel like I am going to have to get a part time job to support the vita... which apparently is already dead :p

And keeping on topic! What is the likely hood of Bullet Girls 2 being localized? Slim?

That Attack on Titan localization news reminds me that I still haven't finished my import of the game.

Also, Takaki saying he wants to localize Uppers and Valkyrie Drive is great, but I won't hold onto that hope until XSEED announces it themselves.

BTW keeping along with Trillion it does get a bit better. The actual Trillion fighting is still nonsense though and I feel really ruins the game. They likely should have taken the Trillion battles out or did them different. Fighting the same guy over and over using the same moves over and over.....just gets old....it's always the same...do the trainings for the 3 stats you're concentrating on making sure to hope to have someone supporting you there to get the 10% bonus. Do the Sword Valley or whatever it's called every time it's avaliable, after 5 times also go for gift machine and gift your current person a bunch to raise affection up to 3 a day. Fight Fake Trillion, another week and keep doing this until you fight the real trillion. Equip yourself and level up your main stats and likely 2-3 passives and a few actives that move you around well and the one that does mass damage. Fight, fight, fight until you hopefully take down Trillion...eventually do it hopefully getting an ending with the girl you liked....that's about it. The story is alright and getting to know the characters is alright but the Trillion fight should have been scrapped. It's so samey all the time and has you doing the same moves over and over and over to whittle that trillion HP down. I don't hate the game persay, but it likely should have just been a VN period without the Simulator/real time combat/dungeon crawl part. Those are all poorly done overall. I hope I do reach killing him with my next 1 or 2 people...but i have him about 40% health down...so I still have a while to go. Will eventually finish the game once at least.

Sorry but Trillion looks like total shit and games like that make me wonder if some of the people in here even bother playing any of the good AAA games or if they just play a constant stream of weeb nonsense.

In a world where most AAA games are pretty much just shooters or open world games or a combination of both, it's not hard to see why people skip some of them.

I had it on my radar until I saw quite a bit more gameplay. I really don't know what to make of it. Can't say I won't eventually buy it when it drops in price, but it'll just look pretty on my shelf with the rest of the backlog.

Man, XSEED and its employees really know how to make me throw money at their company. At this point, I'd buy nearly anything they put out just to support them.

I'm ok with IF getting her own game, but would prefer Plutia.

Would ragnorak odyssey be a good group backlog game to play?

Damnit.... guess I'll hope for an English ASN copy or a physical through LRG. Koei Tecmo has apparently been talking to LRG so I hope something comes of it
Limited Run Games had to clarify what they actually can do after Koei Tecmo Europe announced digital only.

https://twitter.com/LimitedRunGames/status/718090082792644608

They have to deal with US branches of the companies (if they exist) and can only release NA coded games. The talk came from Koei Tecmo Europe so they gave a blanket NO statement.

VERY INTERESTING
"We don't want to show sexuality for nothing. We want to work on the relationship between the characters. Maybe back in the 90s it was a selling element. We want to make it part of the story and not just a selling element. John is important for that. He's the writer of the best part of Fear Effect, the first episode where Hana was strong, and not as sexualised as she was in the second game.
Cue the angry teenager outrage.

Holy shit! Well, probably no one in here is a WWE fan but me, but IGN just posted an interview with Xavier Woods from The New Day, and it's really good. He makes a lot of references to anime and some niche games, even a shoutouts to Danganronpa 2, and DJ Max Technika Tune. I guess he's a Vita guy. No surprise seeing how much he travels.

Those guys are fucking hilarious. I love them. They almost make me want to watch Wrestling. I remember seeing a video of one of them doing the Final Fantasy victory fanfare on a trumpet.

Love the idea of a new Fear Effect but hate what they are doing with it.

Is it too much to ask for a true horror VR dino crisis sequel?
yea i was crushed when FE3 was cancelled, this being on pc and a different genre sux, also the de-sexualisation sux too, that was some good poster/artbook material right there from FE2. I hope it succeeds just so squareenix makes a true sequel. but I'll probably not back this nor play it, maybe watch a LP.

I want another Fear Effect. But Kickstarter is a plague that needs to die, and that game already looks like crap decisions are being made around it. Also IMO Square-Enix backing a Kickstarter makes the whole thing worse, and these poor indie dev's are paying them to do it:

Now, you might wonder why a massive video game publisher such as Square Enix, which makes millions out of triple-A games such as Final Fantasy, Hitman and Deus Ex, is using Kickstarter to fund a new indie Fear effect game, rather than paying for the development of a big budget sequel itself.

Good question.

Here's how The Collective works: Square Enix helps drive awareness of the developer's crowdfunding campaign, and, if it succeeds, Square Enix asks for five per cent of the net funds raised after Kickstarter's fees are deducted. Square Enix says this is to help cover its costs and keep this "initial feedback phase" free.

Then, Square Enix will take 10 per cent of revenue, net of taxes and digital platform fees, after the game goes on sale.

I love this guy. He showed up on TotalBiscuit's Co-Optional podcast one time, and I was totally shocked that he was a gamer. He even whipped out some gundam-themed condoms ;)

I hope Uppers comes here. It looked fun, though I heard it wasn't great, at least based on the first demo. I'll probably pick it up anyway though if it comes here.

Let be real here, a company the size of Koei Tecmo doesn't need LRG or anyone if they want a physical Vita release.

If you din't like a kickstarter, skip it. Kickstarter has given us quality games like Shovel Knight and Banner Saga, and we will never get a game like Shenmue III without KS.
