Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
[*]Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

I clicked on your gamercard in your signature because I am curious what "game styles" you are fond of (since you seem to hate all things). And I see that you have spent FOUR HUNDRED AND FORTY TWO hours in Skyrim Special Edition on XB1... but you have unlocked ZERO achievements in this time.

WHAT IN PLANET NUTfuck ARE YOU DOING IN THIS GAME? I THINK YOU ARE PLAYING IT WRONG.

One reason why I hate the special edition. For the fact you can't get achievements with mods on.

Every time I hear people talking about Valerian, this is all I picture

I unlocked almost every achievement on the 360 version. On the One SE version I only play using mods which doesn't allow achievements. I don't care about achiements, I don't go hunting for them like you guys, so this doesn't bother me at all.

WAIT WAIT WAIT....you like a..video game? My whole world just flip turned upside down.

The rest of us voice negative opinions all the time. I think praxus is the only one not allowed to dislike anything at this point.

Re: Doom, I played through some of it and it's early a well made game, but it wasn't really my thing, either. Please note that this revelation won't actually endanger your enjoyment of the game and thus shouldn't be viewed as harmful to any of you, lol.

Then you must not read everything I post here. I like plenty, just happens there's more that I don't.
I'm just giving you crap, I've seen you say you like Skyrim before but honestly can't remember anything else.

No, if everyone doesn't like what the majority likes it ruins it!

Off the top of my head I like...Elder scrolls/fallout games, the first two high moon transformers games, destiny, the mass effect series, pvz2, dragon age games, gtav (though I played that mostly on my ps3), saints row 1, 2, 3, state of decay, halo single player. I own 227 games digitally on the One alone, so odds are I must like some of them.

I'm playing Doom on "Hurt Me Plenty"  and it's pretty difficult. Still fun, especially the death sequences. Not since Dead Space have I enjoyed seeing my character die in gruesome ways.

It's been too long since I played because multiplayer requires a 15 hour update. Good thing the Campaign is still playable.

So are the Samsung 8000 series (UN65MU8000FXZA) of TVs considered one of the better Xbox One compatible 4K TVs.  I am thinking of getting my TV soon and they are on sale at Best Buy right now. Also is $1599.99 for the 65" or $1199.99 for the 55" the best price in recent history?

I have that TV. It's the real MVP. I love it and 1500 is a great price.

The MU series is this year's KS, so you're probably getting the best price at the moment.

you can find a lot of praise from gamers regarding last year's KS8000. there was nothing to complain about except poorer color when viewing at moderate angles. this year's MU8000 didn't quite hit the same high marks but i'm sure most would be very happy with it.

I tried playing Doom and I'm having the sane problem that I have with Serious Sam and Half Life. After playing for more than an hour I get a headache and I have to just stop playing. I want to like the game because it's fun but I guess I'll pass on it.

Mary Jane always seems to help with this problem for me. I went from throwing up playing the original PREY to stuffing my face and getting all my controllers dirty while I play!

For those keeping score, the final size of Doom after the update is pretty much the size of the update at 58.7 GB. So as it was already mentioned, this was similar to the Gears 4 update that helped compress the size down a little.

I believe Frisky said the PS4 version clocked in around 70 GBs, so perhaps Xbone games are seeing better compression?

Also if the entire game was compressed, I imagine that would make that entire patch mandatory for disc owners.

Then you must not read everything I post here. I like plenty, just happens there's more that I don't.
Well maybe if you wrote about the ones you do liked a bit this general notion that you dislike stuff wouldn't creep up, savy?

I'm ok with this. I've heard great things about Tacoma, Death Alliance is a whole new game for me and I've been following Path of Exile & Fortnite for a while now. Couple of other titles that peaked my interest. They could just release these games into the nether but they're giving each game a good chance with marketing and possibly building hype with a staggered schedule. That to a small development team has gotta be huge.

Yeah not feeling Destiny 2 at all. It also blows my mind that they can't make the game 4k/60fps.
They definitely could make it 60fps on some platforms, but not for og x1 & ps4 and they have to have parity for the sake of MP.

Been playing some Momodora. It starts out really linear, but it doesn't take too long to open up. I wish there had been some indication that beating a boss without taking a hit drops a unique item, as I felt compelled to replay the few hours I had already put in in order to not miss out. Those items are so far pretty useful and the 5 bosses I've seen can all be cheesed pretty hard just by spamming ranged attacks. Fun little indie Metroidvania, all in all.

I need to stop watching teasers for Xcom War of the Chosen. Every Xcom expansion mixes up the gameplay so well that they make the base game seem bland and I lose interest in replaying them. I thought Xcom Enemy Unknown was amazing until I played Enemy Within and realized how the tone of urgency wasn't actually carried through to the gameplay. Now I'm all psyched up to get my bromance on and make tough choices on which new faction to recruit. I wish mod support would come to console, then maybe I could resist shelling out $40 at release.

So much for buying real discs to spare your bandwidth.
So much for buying real discs to own your games. This, much more than the convenience of it, is what is slowly and reluctantly pushing me to digital 'ownership'.

It makes me thankful of Nintendo's 'behind the times' attitude. What they press onto a disc is a finished product and the game they set out to make. Other publishers' discs are no more than a digital licence.

Wasn't Doom supposed to have a free play weekend? I downloaded all 58 gigs but it only lets me play a trial version and it stopped after the second (?) mission. No achievements either (not sure I earned any but nothing popped).

I'm pretty sure that is the normal. It's two levels of SP and unlimited MP

Is the trial not unlocking any achievements? It's tracking weapon kills and I've met more than a few of them and haven't unlocked anything.

Thanks for the info. From earlier posts I thought it was the complete game free for the weekend like Shadow of Mordor was recently. Oh well.
It starts off slow, but it only gets better. If you like what you played so far, it's definitely worth $15.

I tried out the revamped MP. You level up really quickly, but I didn't realize what the Echelons were. Every time you hit level 50, you get a meta level and reset to Echelon 1/2/etc, level 1. If you're going for achievements, you'll have to gain 400 levels (Echelon 8) to unlock Cyberdemon Armor, unless you somehow unlock it beforehand, but the challenges listed for that kinda stuff look like they'd take just as long.

In this case, I suppose if you live in the middle of nowhere and don't have your system online, the Doom disc will install just fine and you can play the full SP no problem. Also true for other games with huge updates (Halo 5, Gears 4, FFXV, etc.). Generally though the updates make the games better, and in some cases (MCC) are necessary to make them play well or correctly.

I won't complain about free updates like this, however, which give out free content, and if you never play online you could just cancel the download completely. I'd be pretty mad, though, if I was the kind of person to spend $60 on release and then another $30 on the season pass, only for all of that content to be $15 a year later.

I have updates for Switch games all the time, they just aren't nearly the size of some of these X1 updates.

Discs still retain some resale value regardless of the update sizes. Enjoy that option now, because I think a world of all digital is actually right around the corner.

The only caution I would have is the HDR peak brightness levels on this year's Samsung models took a bit of a dive from the KS8000 series last year. I know some people say HDR isn't that great and I think that might be one of the issues. This website is pretty good at comparing everything. http://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare

Was watching the first Alien movie the other night when they first go into the ship. The headlamps they were wearing it at times felt like someone was shining a flashlight into your face, almost to the point I wanted to squint my eyes, that's how bright it could go. Really impressive and I think why some people says HDR isn't that big of a deal, their panels have HDR but simply don't have the peak brightness to show it off.

hopefully no one told you all about the Zelda DLC chock full of features that should have been in the game day 1

You mean cowering and hiding in terror mode? Where everything tries to kill you even harder? I'm kinda fine thinking that's DLC in a weird way...

The retail market is still too big for that, and a lot of casual people who don't follow release dates or industry news often see games in the store and realize they exist - especially for holiday stuff. I think there will always be a market for physical media, but I also think fewer games will get released that way as time goes on as digital distribution becomes even more common and widespread.

Usually sentiments like this are for games which were missing features or felt incomplete. Zelda is neither of those things, and at least in this situation, much like Smash Bros, they've been working on the DLC content post-launch instead of itemizing out things that were ready to go at launch.
