Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
[*]Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
[*]Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

One of those tips I’ve learned. The site just tracks that you hit the button, which pre-fills the tweet, but you don’t actually have to tweet it. MS doesn’t own twitter so they have no idea if you actually share it.

Similar to the “rate our app?” Prompts in apps. Just hit “sure I will rate your app!” When you get to the App Store, just go back. The app can’t tell if you did anything and will stop bugging you, at least until their next app version.
Seems like it would be pretty easy for them to disqualify you and award the prize to someone else, what with committing fraud and all. As for rating apps, many times that awards you something with a cash value, which omg, also counts as fraud.

Just because you can get away with something doesn't make it morally responsible. I used to shoplift all the damn time and the only times I got caught I just had to put whatever back. I never even got banned from the stores I was ripping off. That doesn't change the fact that I was a lying little thief who could have had his life ruined over a candy bar or a pack of batteries.

Once upon a time there was a case, and it was a pretty good case, and everyone lived happily ever after. The End.

PS. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Smoke weed errday.
That is obviously the appropriate treatment plan for a teenage boy with undiagnosed, high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. Thankfully, the APA provides guidlines for citing message boards!

Teenage boy? Just provide unfettered access to the Internet.

The APA? There is another method.

I won the driver gear and the Hoonigan pack from that Forza 7 contest, but I'll never buy Forza 7; so the first person to quote this post, and name their favorite car in the game, can have them both.

Edit: Codes claimed by nwaugh.

Once there was a boy. He became a computer programmer. Then he learned to play cards. With the APA

If I didn’t post something on twitter = you shoplifting, then I don’t fill out a customer service survey on a receipt = you falsified your taxes. Ratios!

In other news, the Ghost Recon trial turned into me and a friend playing it for fhree hours last night. Probably will result in a purchase. Game is fun.

Need to do that with Apps that constantly ask that shit. :shame:

Was there a potential financial benefit to agreeing to post on twitter? Did you go on to attempt to claim that benefit without honoring your end of the obligation? You can be as snarky as you want, but that behavior is described in the law as fraud.[attachment=28333:1cc8f664161ab43ecd3db1ab30e03e71-2.png]

Wouldn't they have to prove some sort of intent? I thought I shared it on twitter. I clicked the button.

Do you honestly not see stealing candy bars is WORSE then tricking some system for an extra (per day I guess) contest entry? What value does a contest entry have?

You are only allowed 50 entries anyway and I am a bit over 30 without stealing anything. Missed a few days here and there. I bet I get to about 40 without gaming anything.

So the value of these codes is fairly low.
I might have confused what contest you were entering, but I was thinking of the forza rewards contest that could win you an xbox, forza, and swag delivered by Porches. If you don't win, I guess the value of your entries was zero. However, if I was going to make a big show of handing out an xbox, I'd probably go to the trouble of picking a winner that didn't violate ToS and laws. It would take very little internet detective work to link your social media accounts to this forum, where you bragged about entering fallaciously.

Even if the contest was for a candy bar, I don't put much moral distance between stealing and lying to trick someone into giving you something. Legally it's not worth anyone's time to pursue it because of the intent and computer illiteracy arguements, so obviously they'd just disqualify you and never notify you of anything.

Any you pinball players notice a major slow down on the flippers. Geez it's messing me up bad.
Huh, not really noticing anything. You sure you aren't activating the slow mo wizard power lol? I was able to grab all stars on the Star Wars: Starfighter table last night!

Yeah sorry edited my post. I confused two different contests. I tweeted once and got one code.

Still disagree that not tweeting like agreed for a free contest entry is the same as stealing an actual candy bar. One the cops might actually care about. The other I doubt.

Awesome!!

No not hitting slow Mo. (It's turned off)

It's lag. You hit the button and the flippers take about 1/2 second to activate. I think they slowed down the flipper speed or something. Timing is all off now.

Starting tomorrow you can buy specially marked Totino's Pizza items and get a code to win some in game stuff for FM7. Is this the same contest as the one we are talking about or different. I assume different.

Anyway a heads up for anyone who likes Totinos and FM7.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be on the lookout but I won't be able to redeem anything until I decide when I'm done farming the rewards glitch. I've been playing offline since the update trying to get all the cars but I don't think I'm that disciplined lol.

It's a bad direct comparison, because if you were getting the police involved you'd presumably have the shoplifter in custody and have some tangible evidence of theft and the intent. The only way I can imagine police and lawyers involved in a contest is in the case that you won and then after the fact "evidence" came to light that you're entries were fraudulent. Again, it would take very little effort to trace where you IP goes after the rewards page and where it came from, see that you disobeyed the contest rules, and then bragged about doing so.

My real point is that you're very likely getting disqualified, and by encouraging others to falsify their contest entries you're burdening the system and potentially depriving honest contestants from having a fair shot. That's lame, and you should feel bad about it.

Ok what if the candy bar you stole had the Golden ticket? :)

I know someone on another forum who actually won a XBox One X at TB. His roommate bought the meal but gave him the code. Should he be disqualified? He didn't buy the $5 box. His roommate would have thrown it out otherwise and maybe someone else would have won.

For me stealing actual merchandise is worse then not tweeting like you agreed to for a contest entry. I tweeted once got one code and lost. I didn't game the system but really don't think those that do are on the same level as a shoplifter.

Anyway, I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

Thanks for doing more to try and enforce their contest “rules” than they ever will!

Oh hey, the other day I bought a $10 eShop code from pcgamesupply.com for $7. Do you think Nintendo gives a shit that I am participating in the devaluing of their currency? Can you weigh in on that topic?

Thanks for reading at CHEAPASSGAMER DOT COM everybody, where we legally find the ways to get the best deals and don’t give a crap if we aren’t paying full price.

Copycat. I did that yesterday!
I haven’t noticed any slow down on the flippers but am getting some lag at times.

Finally got my Kill Tracker Ghost from my destiny 2 pre-order! WOOOOOO!

This is a really good deal. Free $50ish book from Amazon for signing up for an Audible trial. Not everyone seems to qualify, but it's worth checking. You can activate the offer with the Splatoon book in the OP of this thread, then delete it and try to find something else as long as it's Amazon themselves shipping it. You get 2 free audiobooks as a bonus.

It says it's good for 30 days so I'm going to try to hold out for the Overwatch artbook.

I don't understand what you mean here, whether sarcastically or not. We do have forum rules that say we are only to discuss legal methods of obtaining deals. Mods are what they are, but I don't behave the way I do because I'm afraid of Santa Claus, Jebus, mods or anyone else looking over my shoulder. I find a lot of discussions on the internet where people seem ignorant of what consitutes fraud. Countless deals at Amazon have comments about how they don't charge tax, which actually means you're supposed to claim it on your own taxes.

I try to keep in mind that a known killer like Al Capone went to prison because he lied on his taxes. It's not that you're likely to get busted, it's that if you ever made a bad cop mad he could ruin your life over BS that people get away with all day. Actually, for me it's not even about any potential legal consequences - it's the fundamental disregard for rules and order. I think it's psychologically damaging to train yourself to break rules when you can get away with it.

I don't know why gift cards get discounted by retailers. It's probably complicated and economical. I do know that gift cards sold on eBay and the like for more than their value are a sometimes method of laundering money, which is mildly interesting.

Anyways, someone with more money than me decided one was legal and the other wasn't. Legality aside, I still don't see how you can get around a simple moral rule like "Dishonesty is bad because it undermines people's ability to socialize." If someone chooses to enter a contest under false pretenses, that should trigger the same kinds of moral judgements used for other cases of dishonesty for financial benefit.

Apparently some Smite spin-off went up on the Xbox Insider Hub, sounds like a beta or something. I got a message from Xbox Live earlier.  Smite Tactics.

I Got this as well yesterday before going back and staring at my XBox One games and apps screen and wondering why the fuck am I staring at my download of Call of Duty Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare remastered like if it was going to go any faster by me doing by staring at it.

Fornite really needs to step It's gun game up. I feel like every time I face someone I get killed by Halo Reach type bloom/RNG.Sure, I win a lot of gun fights when I spot others first but when it comes to both seeing each other I feel like I always lose.

I know PUBG has performance issues, but I read the gun play is quite a bit better. So I really hope PUBG hits preview sooner then December.

Ni no Kuni II spotted on Amazon.es but I have my doubts. Hell we aren't getting the Star Ocean 4 port (which might be a good thing lol) despite that going to Steam and PS4. Then again It's Namco publishing it so I guess there's a greater chance.

Does Oxenfree pick up? I'm shocked I'm having trouble getting into it, but the character movement speed is so slow that it makes exploration of the environments kinda painful. It's starting to get creepy and it's a little more interesting, but the overall pacing is not what I expected.

Oh good it's not just me. I'm not connecting with this game at all. Dial the radio to 3 stations, make a weird triangle, watch drazy stuff happen. It may go in the waybacklog.

I've seen so much praise for it that I had high expectations, which is part of the problem. I may just not be in the right mindset to play it right now, but at the moment, I enjoyed the hour of Gone Home that I played more than the hour of Oxenfree.

I'm with you.

Gone Home >>> Oxenfree

At least in the respect of my ability to connect with the game. I can't believe I listened to all of the commentary for Gone Home and actually liked it.

The sooner a game starts feeling repetitive the faster my enjoyment wanes. Isn't that one of the reasons we play games, to break the monotony of every day life?

I don’t know. I loved the conversations in Oxenfree and enjoyed it way more than Gone Home. I thought it had some great characters and a good sense of humor. Enjoyed the storyline as well.

But neither title is going to be for everyone.
