Can I ruin your fun by saying that is a pack-in cart and that’s why it says ‘not for resale’, so stores couldn’t just take them out and sell them separately?
...Didn't you just do that anyway?

Also, it doesn't matter, because I'm talking about second-hand market sales, not initial sales.

My entire point, which you missed, is that eventually "Not For Resale" doesn't mean anything.

Gamestop was sold out of link 2ds, place was packed people was asking for them & walmart right next door so I figured they'd be out too but though what the hay I'll go check and they had 7 of them out. Only 2ds systems they had and they were in the spot for the mario kart one and new super mario 2 ones so I'm thinking the extremely limited quantities posted in gamestops ad is probably true since walmart didn't even bother printing a sticker for it. Nintendo fan in me could not go without getting one because so many fond memories of Zelda. Seeing unboxing videos made me realize it's so ugly it's beautiful. I know last year the $100 new 3ds mario ones for black friday was real limited because I never even knew they existed until youtube unboxing videos from last year. If you want one of these you better grab it now to be safe. Might be millions of them for next few months or none anywhere a week from now.

Gamestop was sold out of the Zelda 2DS system, and the place was packed with people asking for them. Walmart was right next door so I figured they'd be out of stock as well but thought, "What the hay, I'll go check."

They had 7 of them sitting out! Those were the only 2DS systems Walmart had, and they were in the spot reserved for the Mario Kart and NSMB2 systems. It seems the "extremely limited quantities" warning posted in Gamestop's ad is probably true since Walmart didn't even bother printing a sticker for the Zelda 2DS system. The Nintendo fan in me could not leave without getting one because of the many fond memories I've had with Zelda. Watching unboxing videos made me realize that the system is so ugly, it's actually beautiful.

The $100 Mario New 3DS system for last year's Black Friday was very limited, I never even knew that those existed until I saw unboxing videos of them. So there could be millions of this Zelda 2DS system for the next few months, or like last year, there could be none anywhere a week from now. If you want one of these, you should grab it now to be safe.
I liked your story a lot, so I helped it out real quick. I want to make sure my name is included if this gets optioned for Hulu or something

Somewhere out there an angel earned its wings thanks to this post.

On a related note, I'm thinking the BOTW Explorer Edition will be marked down on Amazon et al. for Cyber Monday. Here's to hoping.

BB has GCU available on it now. I missed the 29$ walmart deal, so i guess this will do.
Came to post the same thing. Glad I waited anticipating it would get gcu after sale ended. $60 was beyond my price point for buying a game i have but with GCU im in. Going to trade in my current copy of the came to GS.

You are better off selling the sealed copy

Glad you liked it & being helpful because ebay they continue to rise in price & by Christmas I expect $150 easily. Contemplating listing mine on craigslist & seeing if walmart by chance has any left. I doubt it since gamestop was getting bombarded with folks wanting them.

They've actually been dropping in price since people realized they're not super rare. They were going for $120 last week and are now closer to $100.

I can't believe Nintendo is charging full price MSRP for such old technology in the old 2DS on Black Friday.  Considering you could get a "new" regular sized 3DS last year for $100, the aging 2DS that can't play newer games like Emblem Warriors going for $80 is just stupid.  You've been able to get a 2DS with New Super Mario 2 for the same price all year. This really should not have been more than $50 tops for BF. Honestly I wish they were just selling regular sized "New" 3DS units for $100 again this year even though the technology is another year older and makes less sense now with the Switch out. At least it plays all the 3DS games and I could fit in my pocket easily. It also plays Zelda 3D in 3D! :p

I think $79 is a nice price for the 2ds but at any rate I'd be all over a new white 3ds with the famicom colored buttons at $100 but those were limited as well because I never had opportunity to get one. I think these Link 2ds's will be a one time run & asked gamestop guy if anymore were suppose to come in and he checked computer and said nope 1 time deal. Having said this I was back in walmart tonight and they still had the other 6 left which I think were same ones (had 7 I bought 1) so that's surprising to me since gamestop sold out right next door. Looked like 1 pokemon new 2ds xl had sold they had 2 left in shelf, 2 galaxy 3ds xl for 179, which I'm thinking seriously about getting either a pokemon new 2ds or the galaxy new 3ds. I hear the speakers suck on the new 2ds since hands covering them so that has me considering the galaxy new 3ds because it's just $20 more that is if speakers are that much better but I hear it's far less comfortable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. My ambassador 3ds can only last so much longer but I've never liked the larger screens that much too bad the regular 3ds is no longer being produced it has slightly larger screens and looks awesome to me. Refurb through nintendo they are 125.

Is this your first day seeing "N" in action? LOL

You know how they operate, as they threw some Zelda colors on that old tech, and now their selling old trash at new prices. They only do "deals" when they have to, and for this, they most certainly didn't need to.

As for the model offered last year, I think they had more sitting around than they wanted, so they may a great deal to move units. They actually have tons of different "refurbished" models on NoA online store for $125. https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/subcategory.jsp?categoryId=cat771516 They have free shipping on orders over $50 with "SHIP4FREE" code at checkout.

Actually, since these have been offered for a few months, the main Black model from holidays last year recently sold out, and that's the first one I've seen sell out of these so far(it may come back, but it may not). Only one other "black" unit is currently being offered, so if anyone ever wanted that color, now's the time, as those are much more rare than the white.

Except to the common customer $79 is still a bargain to be able to play majority of 3DS games (yes, you can't play a handful of games but you can play hundreds of others). It's a small device that can handle a fall and offers several cheap games for your kids.

I'm sure they could sell it a little cheaper, but $79 is already cheap. If you want a more expensive option, those are out there. If you want cheaper, buy it used.

I pre-ordered the Explorer's Edition from Amazon, and then managed to get the "I'll refund you the 20% discount when the game ships" response, which still hasn't happened.

Then today I opened the package to find a crushed box, chatted with the Amazon rep about that, and somehow got them to send me a free replacement.

The question is, do I still chat in again and try to get the 12 bucks back since I've already got basically a free copy?

Eh, they make note of that stuff, and arguing for that $12 on top of the freebie might make it so they're less likely to help you in the future. I'd say just take the win, ya know?

I agree, don't get "greedy". I have gotten tons of stuff free from them in the last year, and almost each situation had an opportunity to get "more", but that could be considered "theft" at some point, so count your blessings and move on.

Was just at target on my lunch break and there were about 4 - 6 of the Zelda DS on the shelves

Got the the Explorers Edition Zelda for $49 at Walmart last weekend, sold the game locally for $40 so that worked out

i have the 2DS Link Edition. is there a way to format to factory settings without losing the pre-installed Zelda OoT? i turned on the system and random put in a username, bday, dates, country, etc to check make sure everything is working. The game also work. i just want to set the system back to factory settings to like a brand new system when u just turned it on. is there a way to do that?

Not sure, let us know.

There may be special cases but generally no you can't do that. However, if you didn't "link" (get it?) a NNID then the game is tied to that console and can be redownloaded from eShop.

Bah, my first BOTW Explorer Edition was slightly crushed, and so is the replacement that arrived yesterday. The first was in a bubble mailer, but the second was in a box with a heavier item and no packing material.

Big sellers put the bundled systems up for sale all the time on Ebay and have really high feedback ratings...they usually state the game has been redownloaded. As somebody as said as long as it's not officially linked to an ID it'll be linked to the system.

Wait, so if i link my NNID, will i get this game in my account permanently?

nintendo systems are so confusing. i still dont know how they work. so what happens if i have my 3ds with digital games and transfer to the 2DS Link Edition? will i lose OoT?

Only one 3DS of any variety can be linked to a given NNID at a time. If you do a system transfer to a system that does not have a NNID already on it, any purchased software on that system, including pre-installed software, will then become permanently attached to your NNID. If you then do a system transfer back to your original system, said software will follow along with your NNID and will be removed from the other system along with everything else. If you are trying to transfer over to a system that already has a NNID on it, then any software on that system is tied to the NNID already present and will not be able to be merged into your NNID, so it will be erased.

Also, any system in the "New" family cannot perform a system transfer back to one of the "regular" systems. So, if your current system is a New 3DS/XL/2DS and you pick up this 2DS, you will NOT be able to system transfer over to it to get OoT.

YUP... Totally forgot about that little detail. Was going to hop from my Zelda New 3DS XL to the Link 2DS to the Pokeball 2DS XL...

If you don't like the price you can always buy an original game boy on ebay for around $40 with a handful of games with no backlight, no batteries, pretty rough condition, then spend a few hundred more on some of your favorite oldies. Yeah, $80 for a nintendo handheld with beautiful screens, rechargeable battery, & brand spanking new is highway robbery.

Yeah, while I've come to know and love/hate their transfer process, the lack of being able to go back to a past 2DS/3DS is more "N" insanity. So for those who bought their new Zelda holiday 2DS, if you have a N3DS, your boned. Great business plan, as your pretty much telling consumers your latest device at retail can't play with one you may have bought 2 holidays ago.

I completely understand why they do this, as to trap consumers in to your latest and greatest, with no chance to get a older used system cheap, and then transfer your stuff back. But as others have stated, WTF are you offering this old style 2DS, when you could have made it the N2DS and covered all your bases? It's like they look for reasons to confuse and confound the public. LOL

So, I have a N3DS XL, and that means nothing can be transferred over?

Not back to the base 2DS or 3DS models. Only to other "New" devices, so you could go from the N3DS XL, back to the smaller N3DS model. But you can't go back to the units with the slower processor and less features.

EDIT: As stated, there are ways to go from the base 2DS model, and send everything to a "New" model device, but that needs to meet certain requirements. And more often than not, something will be lost, unless you contact support and have them manually do some things. The details given above are pretty spot on, but like I said, there are certain situations where not everything can be transferred manually without help on their end.

I've done the system transfer no less than 5 times, and I'm confused by it each go around. Definitely not one "N" better ideas. LOL

happened to me too. First time buying games off Amazon and maybe my last. Got another one that was banged up too. Not enough that I felt good about asking for a replacement though. At least I got the 20% off the Zelda game.

I don’t think they do it to trap users into the latest and greatest. I think the concern is that there are a couple games that will only work with the *new* devices. So if someone has a digital copy of one of those games, it wouldn’t be possible to transfer it to the old device anyway.

Life would be so much easier if Nintendo would let you have multiple “3DS” devices registered to your account

Well, there is like 4-5 games where that would be an issue, where there is ton's more people having transfer issues like the ones stated. Any of those games in question could easily be mentioned in the transfer process of not being able to be moved. And if anyone owns one of those games, they are all clearly labeled and known to ONLY work on the NEW models.

So yeah, I see it as trapping consumers, as why even bother to offer systems now that don't play all your games? You want everyone to enjoy games across whatever device they have, or you don't? If someone has a new device, and decides they want to use an older one, why should they not have the option? Those new games make up less than 1% of the 3DS's library, so that is a non issue for most, as their system defect rate is probably larger than that, an is more of an issue for consumers than if they can play a "new" game on a specific device.

EDIT: They could also include a game code with the Zelda unit(instead of putting the game on the unit), and then consumers could put it on any device they liked Vs. these ass backwards transfer processes that need an MIT cert to understand. So yeah, I stand by my statement of trapping consumers, as even in their own broken world, there are easier ways to help the paying consumer. And most of the things listed here are crappy at best.

I think you're forgetting the SNES VC games. All of those would probably be a bigger concern than Xenoblade 3D or The Binding of Issac or whatever, by number alone.

I agree that they could have just included a game code and made things a lot easier, though.
