They love being hypocritical. I remember IGN and YouTube comment sections railing on the One being a "720pBox" or "an underpowered shitbox". Xbox supporters would fire back with the whole "lack of AAA exclusives" for PS4, but they didn't care. Everything just went right back to power, power, power. Now that the X outdoes the PS4 and the Pro by a laughably large margin, NOW it's no longer about power. Power doesn't matter without first party exclusives. The goalposts get moved every time MS addreses a weakness. Watch if the PS5 has better specs than the X, it'll be all about power again.
 
also Sony buying exclusiveity on games doesn't seem to help them much, I loved spelunky 1 and guacamelee, but unless they come out on xbox I couldn't be less interested in the sequels

From the rumors I've heard about the PS5, it won't be able to play PS4 games. I know the BC program may not be a system seller, but Sony is crazy if they don't think it matters enough for them to not do anything about it. The console is still a long way off, but if this rumor is true it will only hurt them. Only the most stout Sony Pony won't care about no BC.

But, in a way, that fact would play right into this narrative about power being more important than exclusives when the PS5 come out.

"The new versions of the game will feature updated user interfaces, choice of modern or classic controls, fully scalable screen resolutions, and for the first time, Japanese audio available for a global audience."

While Shenmue 2 BC would obviously be nice to have, this should be a much better overall experience. Unless you already own S2, this would have given the option of paying $10-15 for just the second game, in 4:3, with the ancient UI which is usually the one faltering point on BC titles. With this collection I'd guess we're paying $30-40, and I'd guess this is the likely feature set since not everything was outlined.

-both games

-1080p AND widescreen

-"fully scalable screen resolutions" makes me assume X and Pro support, meaning 4K as well.
-60 FPS, as long as the animations or whatever aren't broken by doubling the framerate

-dub and sub

-modern control option

While the games have a great reputation, the voice acting does NOT hold up, so I'd say the option of playing with Japanese is almost worth the price of admission alone.

While it's my opinion that the new console will be more powerful than the One X (Sony would be wasting their time otherwise), I'm not worried about that. What I am worried about though is when they stop releasing games for the PS4 and start releasing them only for the PS5, because the PS4 will still be pretty relevant to me.

Have to keep and eye on both the future and the past. Though it is a bit early to worry too much about the PS5, we've got at least another year or two before it's actually here.

They also announced a Genesis Mini, with the same size as the Nintendo version. Hopefully the quality is better that all the @Games trash that has been on the market forever. Doesn't look like any real info was given on this as far as I can tell.

Crap... Morrowind is $15. I can justify $10 to myself, but $15 is pushing it. I can buy Halo 5 or Gears4 for twenty on sale, but $15 for such an old game. Don't know now then if I'll be buying it, and that game was my entire reason for buying my first xbox.

Who's worried? I'm just talking. I definitely play my games, too. I play the shit out of them. I'm probably the only dude here who doesn't consider a game "beaten" until you've got 100% of the achievements.

I'd be thrilled if the original Xbox games came back. New versions of Mechassault, Blood Wake, Crimson Skies, Brute Force.

The free weekend just saved me $20. I checked out the remastered Skyrim which I had been watching for a price drop. Fired it up and thought ‘wow, this looks amazing’, but then remembered how long I spent playing the original version and decided to pass. Game looks beautiful, but no way do I have time to ever play through it again.

Until this gen I would agree, but Sony and their fanbase poisoned the well for me. I have a Switch, but I won't be financially contributing to Sony any longer. I am all for healthy competition and think it is better for the industry to have multiple consoles to choose from, but I can't imagine joining Team Playstation the way their fanbase so aggressively attacks anything XBox does.

The description on the store page says it includes blood moon and tribunal expansions.

I thought I heard from someone that the regular disc version downloads the base game and expansions too for bc. I have tested neither myself.
 
I may have missed it in a previous post, but the Friday The 13th collection is on sale for 19 more hours on Microsoft.com. $13.99 for to own 8 movies digitally is pretty sweet.

agreed except i only ever got one because of a discount and i import occasionally, my general rule is xbox first for games, got a switch but dont even use it since theirs not that many games worth playing, i usually skip sony exclusives, maybe own a dozen or so games for it

When I was little I used to get all the consoles until the first Xbox. I stuck with Xbox 360 then X1 because that's where my friends were going. Even if a game sucks, it can at least be fun with friends (ex: Colonial Marines and Operation Raccoon City).

Since starting work and getting married, I rarely play multiplayer games. Ended up buying a Switch and PS4. Love all 3 of my console babies. Honestly I probably shouldn't have bought a PS4 or Switch because my X1 backlog is so massive. Now I have a huge PS4 backlog and Switch is starting to increase. I blame CAG and my wife for encouraging me to keep buying games.


Edit: Looking through the new BC games. I've never heard of Breakdown, but it looks fun.

I didn't mean worry about PS5 in a bad way, more just meant "really consider what the specs will be because it's so early". I've got all three consoles myself, I don't care about the console war bullshit.

Anyways, I picked up Breakdown, Mercenaries, and SSX3 at work yesterday, plus Genma Onimusha likely just for the OG. Up to 14 total BC games now. I'm going to try and pick up a couple more of the Star Wars games if I can find them at some of the other local stores.

Breakdown is awesome. A very trippy game. It was one of the first games I had on the OG Xbox, coincidentally along with Blinx. I remember playing the shit out of both, until I would stop, forget what I was doing, and forced to restart the game. I must have started Breakdown like 5 times. Still, very fun game.

It did the opposite for me. I installed a shitload of graphical upgrade mods and can't remember what it looked like without them. Kind of wish there was an option like MCC to toggle mods on and off with the select button. I get though that mods require a full reboot I just wish it didn't

Why would you let random people you don't know keep you from playing games you want? Neither MS or Sony is loyal to us. I didn't care for Microsoft's initial announcement nor their price point. I gamed more on 360 then I did on PS3 but owned both. Wanted to just have one this generation but knew that wasn't realistic. Went with a PS4 at launch and don't regret it at all.

Eventually I picked up a XBox One. But for far less then $499 and with no required Kinect (did buy one later used for $17.99).

Really bought it for Gears of War 4 but ended up playing a lot more Forza Horizon 3 which wasn't even on my radar when I bought my XBox One. I bought a XBox Elite controller about this time last year but didn't start really using it till a couple months ago. I like how solid it feels so more and more I am buying multiplatform single player games lately on XBox.

Not sure what Sony did to sour you but I wouldn't let their fanbois influence you.

Yeah I need to see how Breakdown holds up that will probably be my other purchase since I never chased a eBay copy.

I did buy a digital version of Panzer Dragoon Orta to show Sega support. There's still a lot of Sega titles left from the OG XBox not BC (Crazy Taxi 3, Gunvalkyrie, Iron Phoenix, Headhunter Redemption, Jet Set Radio Future, Otogi 1+2, Outrun 2+2006 Coast to Coast, Phantasy Star Online, Puyo Pop, Rent a Hero, Sega GT, Shadow the Hedgehog (and all the sonic games), Spikeout Battle Street, Toe Jam and Earl 3 and I'm sure I missed a few others. So need to throw Sega money as they have a ton of BC games to go up.

The thing with Sony is they destroy MS with first party and third party exclusives for the most part, but they haven't done much to preserve the legacy of BC via having BC with PS1 and PS3 titles, and the PS2 titles you have to re-buy and they are so few and far between. I'm curious to see if Sony is stupid enough to not have the PS5 BC with PS4. I think if if PS5 is not BC and both systems are $399 next gen that will be Microsoft's biggest chance to catch up.

This isn’t directed at either of you, but I have never been able to understand the whole fanboy mentality for videogame console brands, or the ‘console wars’ bullshit. I have always had both competing consoles if I was able to just so I can play any game that looked interesting. That being said, I just don’t care for the PS4 interface, controllers or online environmenr and have gone only with Xbox this gen. I did buy a DSXL though.

Because association matters to me. It may be silly, but I just try and avoid negative groups....and the fanboys have become just that. I am not insulting anyone's choices, just stating mine. I have all the PS consoles before 4.

Plenty of assholes own XBox One's too. On another forum I am on (not video game related) some guy wanted to know what the video game community was doing to improve their image after some douche swatted another player and the police shot some unrelated person dead. These two were playing COD on XBL. I don't think everyone on XBL is like that. Before that the gamergate thing.

When you have 10's of millions of people you are bound to have a bunch of assholes too.

Anyway not trying to convince you to buy a PS4.

It is 60 fps by default now, one of the recent updates removed the option because they felt they improved the game performance so much that there was no longer a need for the choice.

 
Bit on the Premium Pass for Battlefield 1.  Maybe that'll make me play it for the first time in 8 or so months? Lol.  I can't pass up a deal if I tried.

Never understood it myself. If you truly believed the system is that great, you wouldn't need to bash another to make it look better.

Reminds me of two things:

1. When I was working for Sony Playstation, a mother called into the center trying to get more info before deciding on which system (Sony vs Sega) to buy. I gave her info on both and told her it really comes down to the games she wants to play as some are exclusive to a particular system. In the end, she said she was surprised I also gave praise to a competitors product. I told her, the bottom line is you have to be happy with your purchase. If I only gave props to the PS and she didn't end up being happy with it then she would end up bashing Sony. I also told her that I was a gamer and would eventually have all the systems.

2. Some time after leaving Sony I went into a Sony Playstation store and ended up talking with one of the employees. We somehow got around to the Dreamcast and he started his fanboy rant and then one of his co-workers said out loud he wishes he still had his Dreamcast which just made me smile.
