GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Is anyone trading in their Switch games now with this 70% bonus trade in deal or waiting for a bump around the 20th?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but the past few months for the SB, either one or no top tier NSW games have seen a bump. I think maybe Odyssey or Mario Kart did briefly, but it was a mistake and quickly corrected.

I’m waiting for better values...$37.40 is too low imo. I will gamble that most top tier will at least fetch $45 in the near future if not back to $51. GS used switch games stock isn’t plentiful enough in my area to think they won’t need to bring a better value for stock purposes. also, big n doesn’t have a ton of switch games this year so “old” isn’t as relevant either since retail has no motivation to clear shelfspace.

as an aside, it could be worth taking less for the games if there was great boomerang opportunities...for me the b2g1 was a wasted promo since boomers weren’t worth my time and gas.

lastly, i am considering unloading fire emblem warriors at best buy before they adjust their tiv to match GS

Well now it's in the OP so no excuses :shame:
According to the flyer it's suppose to end on 7/22.

70% bonus credit on accessories would be insane. They would of tanked the values of accessories last week like they did for games, if that was the case. I mean come on, $34 for a DS3 and $17 for a wiimote...  Sounds like a printing mistake to me.

Games only, even though some signage says accessories and games. I wasn't arguing though, I got $400 for a bunch of last Gen games I had been picking up for a dollar here and a dollar there.

Be sure to mind the $2000 trade 30-day limit everyone. Credit racks up quickly with these 70% bonuses.

I think every game I was going to trade in has gone down in value over the last few days. DragonBall Fighterz for Xbone is down to $6 base, as is FE: Warriors. At least Ys VIII is still hovering at $16 base...

What exactly do they mean by "credit must be applied toward the purchase of pre-owned products"?  If I get $200 in bonus trade credit I have to use it all in that transaction and can only buy used items?

Usually not, it has always meant you needed to buy a preowned game for the trade in bonus to trigger. you keep the rest of the credit from the transaction. If it's the fine print, it means if you got $200 in credit to buy a $2 game, you have to use some of the credit to buy the game. You couldn't trade in your games, then only pay for the game with cash.

i did it today, the rest of the credit went back on my card, as usual

It just means there has to be a pre-owned product purchased in the same transaction as your trade. You can buy a $.99 DS game if you want.

I have a bunch of last gen Wii stuff to trade in, I waited through the 50% now I'm wondering if I should wait to see if they get bumped.

Right now games like Mario Kart Wii are at a low compared to what they've been in the past.

Earlier in the year Mario Kart Wii was at like 20 base, it's at 12 now, wondering if it'll bounce back or if it's finally lowered for good.

Debating what to do, I might just play it safe and only trade in half of the stuff.

Holy crap. I was not expecting Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch to go down so much. Just a few weeks ago it was worth over $20 base! I want to take advantage of the 70% bonus, but FE Warriors was one of the games I was looking to trade-in, but not for such a low amount. At least I can get my money back for that horrid WWE 2K18 Switch port I picked up a few weeks ago out of curiosity at how bad it is.

Thank you for the responses!  I don't remember seeing that wording before.  Thanks to Family Video I have a bunch of older stuff to trade in that has either held value or increased!

Wii games outside of like Mario Party haven't really been getting SBs. Even if they do get a SB later this month, the TIVs will probably be tanked because of the influx of trades from this 70% promotion. I'll be trading all my last gen stuff today to get in early before any value dips.

Something literally just occurred to me - does the $2000 limit mean trading in general over a 30 day span regardless of purchases made with trade credit, or actual account balance?

It's total transactions. You can't trade in for $2000 worth of credit, spend it all down, and then do another $2000 worth of trades within 30 days.

I am considering trading my PS4 copy of Ys VIII for PS4 since I also have it on Switch. I was surprised to see the PS4 version is worth $16 base and the Switch version is only worth $6 base two weeks after it came out!

Wwow that sucks, I'm never going to find a used switch copy before the birthday coupon expires if the trade value is $6.

I am wondering if they tanked the value due to the mistake in their Weekly Ad the week the game came out on Switch. Gamestop pulled the ad pretty quickly, but a lot of people were able to take screenshots of the ad into Best Buy and price match Ys VIII for the $20 price Gamestop had in the ad, which was intended to be the Vita version of the game (which is also worth more TIV at $11).

After the 70% bump from the base on the PS4 version though I would be getting around $27 and I am already enjoying playing Ys VIII on Switch more than I did for the brief time, I played it on PS4. Sadly though one of the games I am looking to pick up is also one I already own on another system, but dammit I really want that Hyrule Warriors on Switch! Just gotta find a pre-owned copy near me first since this promo is only good for pre-owned.

Did anyone try to trade any accessories yet because the signage in the store has in the fine print that the offer is valid for games and accessory trades only?

You're welcome.

Hmm just got credited back $56.99 from gamestop. Since they forgot to send me Donkey kong for the switch in my b2g1 order...

Can anyone tell me the difference between Mass Effect Trilogy and Mass Effect 1,2,3?
Huge trade difference between the two and if it is solely just having all three at once, how do I tell the GS Employee that it is the Trilogy vs 3 individual game?

Make a cover art of the trilogy?

Not to exactly promote them, but estarland is offering 28 for FE Warriors. And 26 for DBFZ.

This has probably been covered a couple times at least but the four copy of the same game limit does that go by your PowerUp rewards account number or your driver's license number?

Both I assume, by me they don’t take my drivers license so they for sure do it by rewards account

$2,000?! I can't even figure out how to generate $200 within 30 days. I must be doing something wrong.
My life has been busy lately and I haven't been in need of credit, but honestly it is not hard to hit 2k a month with solid promos and some time. Simply put, it's only a matter of taking advantage of B2G1 promos, picking up games via yard sales/Craigslist/pawn shops/Facebook, and/or Redbox flips.

Is this also a rolling 30 days or would it cover trading 4 of the same game over a longer period of time?
First question of the FAQ on the first page

You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Hmmm... I’m pretty damn sure heartgold was 30 base this morning, because I wrote it down as the only 50+ trade I could find. It is now 27... if they are now adjusting during the day it may truly be the end of an era.

I traded in some games today and bought a 99 cent game to trigger the deal. The remaining credit, with bonus applied to the full value of what I traded, was given to me on a card.

I had this happen a few weeks ago on a copy of Far Cry 5. Even had the trade saved from earlier in the day to confirm. GS worker told me they had been updating trade values throughout the day for a while now, but who knows how accurate that is.
