Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Decided to sign for the Game Pass 2 months for $2 that ends today, but trying to finish Victor Vran OE, surprisingly fun game picked up on clearance for $11 with all DLC from GS a few months back, trying to clean up backlog before new fall games.

I don't own them, but the 5 has gotten such good reviews I can't imagine the extra $200 spent would really be worth it.

I have the 5 series and for $399 it's a steal. Wish I had another room to put another TV in so I could buy another.

Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

I picked up the 5 over 6 a month or two back to save a couple hundred. I dont regret it.

The negatives I've had, which are just minor annoyances:
1. Netflix, and it happened a couple times on hellblade, on start up will some times be washed out. Going back to the home screen and then back into Netflix fixes the colors. No app restart was necessary.

2. It will randomly choose when it will let the xbox control it. It's supposed to turn on when I turn the xbox on but it only does it maybe 10% of the time.

3. Randomly while switching between games or apps the screen will turn green, mostly when going to the home screen. I can still see a hint of the image in white outlines. Going to the home screen on the TV (not xbox home screen) and back to the xbox input fixes this.

I think there's a work around with turning HDR on/off when in a game/app that prevents some of these but I'd rather have to deal with these every once in a while than constantly turning HDR on and off. I've also heard putting the xbox on a different input besides 1 helps, but haven't tried that yet.

5 Series here, no complaints but at this point in the year I would probably wait for next years models/ a sale on the 6 series

Yep. Buying something like an HDTV ~2 months before Black Friday is a gamble for a better deal or TV.
Thanks for the replies, I know it might not be the best time to buy it but the price is right and I dont remember a good sale on last years TCL on Black Friday, also I REALLY want to checkout the new Forza on 4k and by the time the good Super Bowl sales come I would have lost months of 4k enjoyment ;) .

The TCL 6 series is definitely a better TV than the 5 series. Has more local dimming. I’d say if you can afford the extra $200, it’s worth it.

Edit: actually, the 5 series doesn’t have local dimming at all. This is a pretty big deal as the local dimming helps HDR not be washed out and colors can pop more because it can adjust the brightness on different zones on the TV to be more accurate.

Don’t get me wrong the 5 series is still a good TV but the 6 series is in a different class having local dimming.

What AWP said, you're paying for a bit more future proofing in HDR, why they are priced the way they are. I have a 5 and I notice the washout pretty frequently in PUBG games compared to my Samsung. Besides the local dimming panels there is a pretty big difference in peak brightness between the two models also. Best sorta example I can come up with peak brightness levels is on my Samsung, if the sun comes out behind some cloud or tree cover I can almost feel myself instinctively want to shield my eyes from the brightness effect. It's still a decent TV but there is a reason for the price difference.

Alright CAGers, I need some help here. I've been going back and forth trying to figure out the best deal, and just can't decide. My gold expires at the end of next month, but my gamepass expires at the end of October, so I've been trying to find a way to keep them together. Here's my debate: do I spend Bing points on my wife's account to gift myself a month of gold, or do I cancel my subscription now and then do the $2 for 2 months deal? What makes the most sense from a CAG perspective?
Is there a deal for 2 months of XBLG for $2, or is that for 2 months of GamePass?

If you do go with the 55" Series 5 there is a coupon code that knocks the price down even more, as detailed here.

Well I guess the 5 Series that is on sale is not up to par, thanks for all the insight and will be saving my moneys for a sale on the real deal or just go crazy and.. pay full price :???:

Anyone got a theory as to why there’s no Dead Rising 3 content for sale in capcom’s publisher sale?
My theory is it's something buried in the contract language of 3 since it's technically published by MS and they couldn't be arsed with it this time around. While both 3 and 4 had a somewhat similar setup with MS handling publishing duties on the Xbox One, Dead Rising 4 had a PS4 version also.

edit: also 2 seconds after hitting post on that I remembered, didn't the "base" version of Dead Rising 3 get removed from the store and there is just a version with the DLC called Apocalypse edition? I haven't looked in awhile so I don't even know if Dead Rising 3 DLC is still available stand alone. Some weird thing like what just happened to Shadow of War.

So apparently the Dolby Vision bring tested for Xbox One is not compatible with TCL TVs. Not too happy to hear that. Here’s the list of sets that are:

https://www.dolby.com/us/en/categories/tv/dolby-vision-xbox-compatible.pdf

Hopefully TCLs get an update to support it.
I had no idea there were "versions" of Dolby Vision. Life is way too complicated.
Tell me about it, I've been looking into getting a Dolby Atmos setup the last couple of months and I swear my head was spinning at times. Didn't want to really go giant receiver and speaker wire all over route so was looking into all the different sound bar with satellite sub and rear surround options. Eventually gave up and got some "7.1" headphones with a redeem code for the Dolby Atmos for headphones thing on the Xbox store. I do like it.

This much is true, but some of the alpha hyper super turbo add ons aren’t in the apocalypse edition. And the apocalypse edition itself isn’t even on sale. I like your theory about it being an MS vs Capcom thing, though. I hope one day I can get that stuff cheap.

Despite claiming that the Lambent skins for Gears 4 will be money only, The Coalition gave in to the backlash and are offering RNG packs available for credits.  3 cards for 400, 5 for 2,000.

I've bought 3 400 credits packs and 1 2000.  Pulled the Lambent Drone from a 400 pack.  I got some non-Lambent related stuff from the 2k pack, don't know if the 400 packs are limited to Lambent stuff.

Thank goodness they reversed and made the packs purchasable via cred. I got one character skin via a 2,000 cred pack and nothing but weapon skins in the 400 cred packs

Is Quantum Break really 100GB? Holy crap. Is there any way to download less than that?
I just downloaded it and the game itself is only 48GB. There's an optional Episode Pack that is 76GB. That must be the videos that someone else had pointed out.

Really impressed that the settings menu lets you turn off copyrighted music in case you were streaming or recording. I remember getting a copyright strike on a Youtube gameplay video because of the in-game radio (and the game had no way of letting players turn it off).

The 2 Month for 2 bucks Gamepass offer seem to be extenended by 4 Days originally it was only lasting for 23 more hours when i checked in the morning... so I will probably go for it this weekend since my free month is running out...

Als glad about the credits option for lambent packs..only bought the 400 Credits packs around 12 and got the grenadier characters..i can confirm only lambent related content in those sadly didnÄt get the lambent drone yet..

I just bought a TCL 5 series to use as a second PC monitor and overall I would say it's definitely worth the money, especially with the tcl upgrade promo discount code.

The 6 series, which also came out this year is a league better in HDR picture quality and brightness. It has local dimming zones, is backlit, and I believe 900 nits in brightness. The 5 series is edge lit and only gets about 280 nits.

When compared to my Sony 900e, the 5 series TCL pales in comparison with HDR, however it does perform well enough if you are in a darker environment. Also the 4k and monitor quality is excellent. In my case I just wanted a 43in 4k monitor and didn't need extreme brightness since I am sitting at a desk.

I would say if this was going to be your primary TV then save up for the 6 series as the HDR really shines with the higher end model.

If it is like their previous deals, you aren't eligible for the 2 for $2 deal. You can't have an active subscription at the time of purchase, and you said yours doesn't end until the end of next month.

also anyone have any thoughts on dayZ??
I haven't checked it out but my friend did and I watched him play for a minute. He was disappointed and said it didn't play well at all and he plays PUBG on xbox, so it's not like he isn't used to buggy game preview games. When I watched him he was showing me how he could see an item but it wouldn't let him pick it up.

Does downloading it this way require automatic updates to be enabled on the console? It gave me the option which xbox to install to so I selected mine (my girlfriend's is my home xbox for game sharing purposes) and nothing happened. It didn't appear in my ready to install list either.
stroll over to the title in the store?

I already tried that earlier. I only had the option to purchase it on console. But since you said it I decided to check again for shits and giggles. Now it has an install option. I swear the store likes to screw with me. Tiles that other people see I don't, tiles that don't go to what they say they are (clickbait!?), and of course the constant crashes. Ugh.

Xbox store has been a fuxor tonight, trust me. I watched it do the little blue loading circle for 5 minutes until I unplugged my console from the power strip and let it reset. I think they are starting to over complicate things in there, need that sewn up Phil Spencer if you ever lurk here.

I noticed the 10% off ea access price for burnout paradise remastered says it ends in 10 days so i'm thinking that'll be when it gets added to the ea access vault

No achievements. Also asks for permissions to data. This seems weird for a release to the actual store.
Guess they are working on getting the achievements thing fixed.

It definitely needs a good overhaul, that's for sure. I don't what they're doing to the app either, they push updates out for it frequently. Seems like I've downloaded an update every few days or so the last month or two. And I'm pretty sure it's still usable without them, or at least it was every time I've used it when an update was available.

I have a few questions about Halo: MCC.

1. is there more to the download after the initial 73gb?

2. am i downloading all the games? odst included?

3. is there a patch after it downloads the 73gb for X enhancements or is it part of the 73gb download?

4. if there is something after the 73gb, how much left is there to download?

No, you good.

So I just tried 2 Forzathon challenges, race in Rio at 130 mph and race in Prague with a Benz, and I didn't get the prizes. The Rio challenge disappeared. The Prague challenge is still there but didn't register the race I completed. Anyone else having this problem?

kind of odd that NBA2Kprelude isn't even going to acknowledge no achievements but trophies 2 years in a row and these guys have good jokes for it

I did these yesterday. I had no problems.

Has anyone actually tried The Videokid? I have some credit that is expiring and I used to love Paperboy back in the day.
Playing it now. It's quite fiendishly difficult, but in an old school sort of way. Not too dissimilar from Paperboy at all, really. Simple premise, simple gameplay, lots of deaths.

And the sheer amount of 80's references is staggering, which is awesome.

I'd say it's worth the five bucks, especially since it's an Xbox Anywhere title.
