To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

I have no interest in Fortnite or people streaming Fortnite so if I could thumbs down Fortnite and just have it disappear from my Xbox forever, that would be ideal.

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but if you go to either the game's main page or the feed page on the home screen (I forget which it is), there is a setting where you can turn off notifications for that game. This has been especially helpful when my son plays Fortnite with me logged in as well, and I start to get the stupid achievements on the idle screen coming through.

Search the rules for the words "online code" - it says that it is multiple use (1 per day), but doesn't say exactly how you get it. The 2 methods you mention appear to be only the single use codes. It says there are 3 methods to obtain a code, then only details two of the methods. In part "4" of the quoted text, it talks about the online code. So yes, there are two ways mentioned to obtain a code, but no methods listed to obtain the online code. Also, yes, two entries per day.

From the official rules:

3. HOW TO OBTAIN CODE

An eligible entrant may obtain an entry code (“Code”) using one (1) of the following three (3) methods (some methods are only available during specific time periods, as noted below). Entrants may only obtain Codes either through a legitimate restaurant purchase or for free as described below. Codes may not be sold, bartered, or transferred. Codes are void if not obtained through authorized means. Each Code is valid for one (1) Game Play, as defined in Section 4, during the Game Period.

  1. Make a Purchase: During the Game Period, an eligible consumer who purchases the Taco Bell Xbox $5 Box from a participating Taco Bell restaurant, while supplies last, will receive one (1) Code printed on the Taco Bell Box. Not all Taco Bell restaurants will participate in the Game.
  2. Without a Purchase (Mail-In Code Request): To obtain a Code without making a purchase from October 5, 2018 to November 12, 2018, an eligible consumer must legibly hand write his/her full name (no initials), complete street address (no P.O. Box), age, and valid e-mail address on a 3½” x 5” properly stamped postcard and mail it to: Taco Bell® and Xbox® Game Code Request, P.O. Box 251328, West Bloomfield, MI 48325. Requests sent in an envelope will not be accepted. Mail-in requests must be postmarked by November 12, 2018 and received by November 18, 2018. Administrator will send one (1) Code by e-mail to the e-mail address provided on the request. Limit thirty-two (32) total Codes per person/email address via Mail-In Code Request. Mail-in requests will not be returned and no further correspondence will be entered into. Mail-in requests must be original and hand-written. No mechanical reproductions are allowed.
4. HOW TO PLAY THE GAME

During the Game Period, upon obtaining a Code or the Online Code, an entrant may play the Game using one (1) of the following two (2) methods to receive one (1) game play (“Game Play”):

  1. Text Message: During the Game Period, an entrant may send a text message from his/her wireless mobile device to the short code 72823 (“Short Code”) with a valid Code or the Online Code. Message and data rates may apply to all messages sent and received. Your mobile carrier may put these charges on your mobile bill or may deduct them from your prepaid account. All text messages sent to entrant will be autodialed. For each text message received with a valid Code or Online Code, subject to the limit of one (1) Game Play per entrant per day, an entrant will receive one (1) Game Play. If it is the entrant’s first Game Play, the entrant will be sent a follow-up text message asking the entrant to confirm he/she is over eighteen (18) and agrees to these Official Rules. An entrant must reply to this message confirming his/her age and agreement to the Official Rules to receive a Game Play. Upon completion of a Game Play, the entrant will receive a notification text as to whether or not he/she is a potential winner (“Game Notification”).

    IMPORTANT: By texting the Short Code with your Code or Online Code, you are providing your signed consent to receive autodialed text messages related to the Game. An entrant may, at any time, choose to stop participating in the Game by sending an opt-out text message stating STOP to the Short Code. If you subsequently enter the Game again via text message, you will resume receiving text messages as set forth herein. If an entrant sends an opt-out text message, he/she will be sent a reply text message, which will provide that he/she has been unsubscribed and will receive no further messages. If an entrant sends a text message stating HELP to the Short Code, he/she will be sent a reply text message, which will include a link to these Official Rules. Consent to receive autodialed text messages is not required and is not a condition of purchase. Each text message entry must be manually key-stroked/entered by the entrant.
  2. Online: An entrant may visit https://winxbox.com/ (“Website”) during the Game Period and enter his/her valid e-mail address. If it is the entrant’s first visit to the Website, then he/she must complete and submit the registration form by providing the requested information, which will include but may not be limited to: e-mail address, complete first and last name (initials are not permitted), address (P.O. Boxes are not permitted), city, state, ZIP Code, phone number, date of birth, and confirmation the entrant has read and agrees to be bound by these Official Rules. The entrant then must enter a valid Code or the Online Code and click Submit to obtain a Game Play. Upon completion of the Game Play, the entrant will receive a Game Notification on the Website screen. Sponsors will also notify the potential winners via e-mail using the e-mail addresses provided by the entrants during registration.
Regardless of method of Game Play, each entrant who receives a “win” message will be deemed a potential winner pending confirmation and verification of the entrant’s eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules, as determined by Sponsors in their sole and absolute discretion. All potential winning Game Plays are subject to verification by Sponsor or Administrator, whose decisions are final and binding. An entrant is not a winner of any prize, even if the Game Play should so indicate, unless and until entrant’s eligibility and the potential winning Game Play have been verified and entrant has been notified that verification is complete. Sponsor will not accept screen shots or other evidence of winning in lieu of its validation process. Any Game Play that occurs after the system has failed for any reason is deemed a defective play, is void, and will not be honored.

Except for the Online Code, each Code may only be used once. The Online Code may only be used once per entrant per day per method of entry between 12:00:00 AM PT on November 12, 2018 and 8:59:59 PM PT on November 21, 2018. Regardless of how many Codes are obtained by an entrant, the method used to acquire the Codes, or the method of Game Play, there is a limit of one (1) Game Play per entrant per day via the Text Message method of Game Play and one (1) Game Play per entrant per day via the Online method of Game Play during the Game Period. A “day” is defined as starting at 12:00:00 AM PT and ending at 11:59:59 PM PT on a calendar day, except for the last day of the Game, which shall end at 8:59:59 PM PT.

In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, the Game Play will be declared made by the primary account holder of the account associated with the mobile device used to complete the Game Play, based on the applicable carrier’s records, or in the event of an online entry, the e-mail address used. The “primary account holder” is the natural person listed as the primary owner of the mobile device and associated mobile telephone number by a mobile telephone carrier, or the natural person assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted address. The potential winner may be required to show proof of being the primary account holder and/or e-mail address holder.

In the event that a household plays the Game using more than five (5) unique e-mail addresses, all of the Game Plays associated with that household (determined by Sponsors or Administrator in their sole discretion) may be disqualified. Regardless of method of entry, each entrant/household is not eligible to win more than one (1) prize.

I Tried Google's Project Stream finally with my internet that's somewhere around 20MB or so. I'm...actually impressed. It looked and played well, but the problem is now though how far I want to get in the game since I prefer getting achievements and I have a backlog and don't want to get stupid far in this game.

So since the game isn't tied to an account of yours, there is obviously no achievements or trophies or whatever. How does it handle game saves?

Really like YouTube TV. By far the best of all the options we looked at but that’s partly because it was the only one to have all of our local channels available. And it does have a DVR with unlimited online storage. Interface is much better than competitors as well.

Only a few minor niggles on the DVR. It records EVERYTHING for a show including stuff in syndication so there’s a lot to go through but it generally does flag stuff as truly “new”. Also, all the channels record on the DVR but CBS has a weird thing that if a show is available On Demand, it forces you to watch that version. Other networks let you choose. Apparently others used to force OnDemand as well but all of them caved to YouTube to allow both except CBS.

Otherwise, I’m very happy with it. My wife has been wanting to keep cable forever but I finally convinced her and we’ll be saving over $100 a month.
 
Google's Project Stream is tied to your Google account. I'm pretty sure it supports achievements too, so I imagine those are tied to your Google account along with game saves. I haven't played a lot of it yet, but it really makes my 4 year old HP laptop feel like a gaming PC.

I've been thinking about getting rid of DirecTV. Too lazy to dig into it cause I'm at work but do you get weather channel? Seems to be the biggest obstacle to me dropping it is my wife really needs it cause she commutes and watches it every morning.

No, unfortunately, no Weather Channel. There is a thing called the internet that I hear has a Weather Channel website. 😉

But yeah, TWC would still be nice to have added. Having broadcast local channels is good for local news and weather though.

I can't find any streaming options that have the weather channel.

Trust me I know you can check your phone but she's a creature of habit and would rather me overpay $100 a month for DirecTV

DirectTV Now is absolutely horrible in my experience. Worse streaming quality of them all for me.

PS Vue is fine but doesn’t have all my local channels and was $5 more. Also liked the YTTV interface better. But local channels is probably the big dealbreaker for me. In fact ABC is On Demand only on PS Vue in my area so you have to wait for shows to even be on demand to watch them.

YTTV also has the most sports channels included at the $40 rate as well.

Think everyone needs to try them all and make their own decision. What works well in one market may not work as well in others.

TWC is only available for streaming online (legally) if you are a subscriber to one of their TV providers and log in with your TV provider user account. They only do free online streaming during a major weather event.

Apparently Fubo and DirectTV Now have it in some streaming packages. But wasn’t enough to entice me.

I wasn’t referring to streaming when I mentioned their website though. I was talking about finding your local forecasts, etc.

Agreed. Cost of DirecTV getting up there. But it plain works. And after a long day of work and dealing with the kids, that's enough for me. It would be painful to have to re-educate everyone in my house on using something new. That would be pure punishment for me. And if any of my wife's favorite channels were missing (ID, Hallmark, etc.) I'd never hear the end of it,

Anyone sees EA Access on sale anywhere, lemme know please. Kid loves PvZ GW2, he's going to have a fit when he finds out he can't play it. I should've got the deluxe when it was $6, never thought about it with EA Access and now its expired.

Lets hope so; my kid wont even notice it was gone, if it is. :)

I'd still get EA Access, though. There's good value there and I can play fifa every once in a while I feel the itch for.

Usually around Black Friday thru Christmas you can get EA Access for $22 to $25, Newegg has it at that price. Discounts on it have been tougher to come by in recent months - probably because their library has gotten much bigger and they have 10 hour trials for most new releases like Battlefield V come November 9th.

Anyone play the new Breach mode in For Honor. Really awesome invade the castle mode. Been so long since I played For Honor that I really need to relearn the controls and completely suck. But I’m impressed by how much they have put into this game.

I just have internet only with firesticks threw my whole house and I use over the air converter box for my local channels it was like 40 bucks for the box all together media entertainment is 70 bucks

 
Skimmed the AMA on reddit with the CEO of sky bound and the creative director of the Walking Dead Final Season. Seems somewhat promising with them getting a decent amount of former telltale devs to continue working on the season, but wouldn't go into anymore details other than they talked to 40 former devs. Said they aren't currently working on the final episodes but they hope to have the next one out by the end of the year.

Will be very interesting to see how it all works out and what the schedule actually ends up being.
 
I'm updating the OP, and I really don't understand the pricing for Farming Simulator 17 stuff.

The Premium Edition containing the game and season pass is on sale $18.75.

The Season Pass alone is on sale for $23.44.

The Platinum Edition containing the game and the Platinum Expansion is on sale for $12.50.

The Platinum Expansion alone is on sale for $13.39.

Once I've finished, maybe I'll run headfirst into a wall a few times and it will become clear.

 
PSA: Conan Exiles free trial is live. I played about an hour and got 600/1000 Gamerscore. Should be able to get the rest in another hour if I get a co-op partner for one achievement. Game is a 50 GB download which I started yesterday.
 
When I played the trial of Conan Exiles during its preview days, I thought it as boring as shit. Guess I just can’t stand those kind of “survival” games. Hell, I’d take the old 360 Conan action any day over it. That needs to become BC!

earned well over 250 points specifically for the challenge days ago and they never show up

Pretty sure I got my membership joining cd's from columbia house in the mail faster in 1998 than this thing cyber updates in 2018

It’s actually good to know they are still adding X enhancements to already BC games. This gives hope that games like Crysis that would be phenomenal with greater resolution still could come.
 
I need some Xbox child account advice. My oldest is having a birthday soon, and we’re getting him a game I don’t want to add to my gamer card, plus he is very into the Forza games and I don’t want him messing with my progression.

If I get him set up with a child account, can he still play games from my account on the same Xbox? how does Gold work? Can he share mine for stuff like the live features of FH4, or if I turn off social stuff will that cripple most games?
