Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Thankfully for me, my Barn Find achievement popped.

I bought a 500GB USB SSD for ~$108 and the 1TB variant wasn't even twice that.
I did say MSRP. Checking Amazon, whatever brand VectoTech is, they've got an MSRP at $190, and Oyen Digital is at $239, but most of the regular HDD manufacturer's drive start at $250 for 1 TB SSD. I considered that to be in the "ballpark" of the $279.99 price I saw for an S, though that's a gameless package that appears to be getting phased out for $300 game bundles.

I spent $270 on a 1 TB WD My Passport a couple months back.

I just realized you may have been referring to SSDs specifically. In that case, I don’t know.
No, I meant non-SSD disks. Though maybe it's been more than a year. Wasn't there a point when you needed dedicated power for a drive larger than about 3 TB? Either from an outlet or maybe a 2nd USB cable?

Heh, yea, I meant 7TB, still strange though, it was like 7.68 TB. Seemed like some sort server HD or something.
Yeah, my company uses oodles of disk space on our networks, with most, if not all, of it solid state for performance. Made a comment to one of the network infrastructure guys today that it's odd to see Windows flag a disk as running low on space when it has 400 GB free, but it's less than the percentage space free threshold on a 20 TB disk.

I've just left my external powered on the blinking light is facing away from me anyway, but I'm 99% sure there is something in the options menu to power it down when the xbox is off if that's a concern.
There is an option, but the October update broke it, at least for the 8Tb Seagate Hub drives I have connected to both my X and my girlfirend's S. Now they come on randomly by themselves, stay on for awhile, then turn off again, repeating until the console actually gets turned on. I tried a hard reset, that didn't fix it. I might try disabling the option, doing a hard reset, and then enabling it again. There is no reason for them to turn on since I have automatic updates disabled.

Yep. My guess is they increased efficiencies enough to bump that figure up a GB. Not sure when we’ll see an increase in portables to 5GB, but hopefully sooner rather than later if these RDR sizes catch on.

Just realized the new update added the ability to see what GWG and Game Pass games are installed vs ready to install. I initially hated the move to the top of the screen for that on the main page, but this is actually pretty cool. Looks like GWG only cover X1 games, which makes sense.

7GB, eh? what a deal!
I'm not currently subscribed to gamepass but I always got frustrated that the section in "my games and apps" included games you owned. I didn't realize until after I hid like 5 games on the gamepass tab that it was also hiding them on my regular ready to install tab.

Nice to see you can see what is installed. I always wished that the installed games section could have icons for (or be filtered by) games that are installed through ea access, gamepass or on disc. I keep forgetting to check in the store to see if I own it or can purchase it but every time I see ME: Andromeda I think "do I have this through EA access or do I own it?"

WTF does this acronym mean? Must Sate Roused Princesses?

2 Discs? Is that a first for this gen?
The game is either 105GB or 145GB, depending on which GameStop tweet you believe.

Dunno, I've honestly only picked up one physical disc this Xbox generation with Game sharing partner.

Rockstar themselves say it's 107 gb on the Xbox one and a weird caveat of 99gb for the PS4 unless you are doing it digital then you need 149 gb to do the install. Not sure how the process works on that. Right now my install is sitting at 88.15 so a bit more to download release day.

Manufacturer's suggested retail price.

I still dont think anyone got RDR2 yet. I dont know about that streamer, its odd how he writes about it, it does seem to be his hand in one of the shots so no idea...

The game probably wont even be in distribution centers yet or someone could leak it i guess.

I mean it takes like 1 day to ship it to stores? The stores would probably get it thursday. So maybe distribution centers get it wednesday? Maybe if someone robs a truck :)

Yeah dunno the dude so can't vouch for his twitter, cover has a Canadian French sticker so most likely Montreal area. After working some college jobs at music/game stores I don't think it's unreasonable that stuff is already shipping out today if it has a release next week. Don't really think it takes 1 day to ship to stores unless you want to pay out the azz for unreasonable shipping costs when you have to distribute to markets around the world.

Those were both humorous comments btw...

um it would say edit no? but okay kid

I'm pretty sure this is the first single game this gen with two discs. Most of the other games with massive file sizes ballooned there after launch, primarily being Xbox exclusives like Halo 5 and Gears 4, though Doom 2016 ended up like this too. I guess all the JRPG devs figured out how to get better at compression or something since last gen.

Some of those remaster collections have multiple discs, like Bioshock.

I'm trying to think of any games that launched with a full disc and a large update because the publisher was too cheap to use two discs, but nothing is coming to mind. This must only be a Switch phenomenon for now. Tony Hawk 5 kind of did this, but they just didn't put 90% of the game on disc, it wasn't anywhere near full.

Master Chief collection could use a two disc reissue, you're screwed if you have bad internet and throw that one in

Yeah, but it's probably a while away if they do one at all. A lot of updates still are on the way, and it sounds like they could be big ones. In their recent progress report, they said they have a fix ready to go for an error with how some animations play in water on Halo 4 MP maps, but they have decided to hold off on deploying it because to fix the issue the maps themselves have to be re-downloaded entirely.

The fact that they added LAN support means it would be very beneficial for people to be able to get the up to date version of the game off a disc, but the actual percentage of people using the feature has to be extremely small at this point so it might not be on the radar. For those in that situation, they could theoretically do a network transfer of the current version to update offline consoles, but I don't think this is a practical solution if more than one or two consoles need the update.

Yeah, I know they've also been evaluating pulling Reach into the collection as well, I didn't have an Xbone back when it launched but I'm pretty happy with where the collection is at this point for what I play

Rockstar has never been too concerned about optimization, I'm not surprised it's 2 discs. Although kudos to being 2 discs instead of 1 with a massive download in order to play.

So I've got an interesting problem. Trying to watch a video file from a thumb drive. MS media player gives me picture and no sound. VLC gives me sound and no picture. Suggestions?

So I got $5 from the Fallout 4 Gamepass Quest for October, but I never got my $5 off ODST for September, did anyone get that? I'd like to grab ODST eventually but if they are going to give it to me for free I'd like to wait.

Positive the $5 code I got was from the MCC quest since I haven't touched Fallout yet also I'm pretty sure the quest page just said $5 to use toward (if you wished) ODST.

It wasn’t $5 off ODST, it was just a $5 code. That went out this week, so that’s the $5 you got. MS won’t send out October stuff until November.

Just letting you know, if you redeem a 3 month xbox live gold code using Xbox.com, they will still give you an extra month free if you activate auto-renew.

Totally forgot to post this here. So I made a team last week in FH4 for team adventure stuff, team name should be CAG and the tag is CCAG because some savage took CAG already. Any requests made to join will be added, I'll just cross check the CAG club roster when adding people. You can be in both the CAG club and the CCAG team with no issues. While in the world your name will have [CAG] preceding it and while doing TA stuff it will be [CCAG]. That all said the team function seems about as useless as the club function this iteration but it is there if anyone wants in. Also, teams are limited to 25 people so if this fills up someone else would have to create a secondary one if needed.

Kodi. VLC for Xbox is actually pretty crappy but Kodi has played everything I've thrown at it.

Welp, my GCU expires in two days. Just preordered like $500 in games. Figure I can cancel them as I go if I don’t want them.

Sniff, sniff...goodbye GCU..sniff, sniff

I got all of the achievements in Conan Exiles. Super easy to get 900. The last achievement requires a Coop partner which is not too hard. I followed this guide:

https://youtu.be/6uTrQnTJQsU

I got all the achievements and kept the game installed. I'm willing to help anybody get the coop one if they need it. Lord Chabelo hooked me up so I'm paying it forward.
