FAQ:
  • What is this thread? A massive collection of limited edition games & other attributing items, included with links.
  • Why put it all in one thread? More traffic due to collaborating interests.
  • Why is that important? This keeps the thread popular and doesn't risk a failed CE from falling through the cracks unnoticed.
  • What can be discussed here? Anything relevant to what is posted.
  • Why make another CE compilation? Karma.
  • Where are the big pictures? Still here, scroll down. Due to the increased number of CEs, a preface post is needed.
  • When is the Final Fantasy VII CE? Not announced. Granted, IF it does, you can bet I will devote an entire page to it.
  • What about other CEs that have been announced? Give me a minute. It takes a bit of time to format the title, price, date, & retailer links in correctly.

Don't like how they started "Bundling" there CE's with a separate retail copy of the game thrown in... It's not all in 1 box anymore.

Yeah, I also noticed that with their last release, Death end re;Quest, but are they definitely doing it for all their future CEs as well? Not sure if the last release was a one-off or the beginning of a new pattern. But even if you look at it that way, its $60 for the game and $15 for everything else, which seems pretty decent.

Looks like the preorder doesn't start until May 14th. Some nice things included though including a hardcover art book and soundtrack. I'm guessing the steel case is not an actual steelbook, though. Standard edition is $59.99 so the price is decent for what you are getting.
If this doesn't sell well, it could end up with major discount like other Iffy LE this past Black Friday. I vaguely recall $30-$40 for Dark Rose Valkyrie and Fairy Fencer F then.

I think a bunch of them were under $20 if I recall, which is even better!

I've been checking this listing about once a day for the last few weeks with no luck.  This morning I finally scored one at a Gamestop on the other side of town.

SCVI CE on sale at Best Buy (no season pass though.)
Will any fighting game ever be complete anymore? I was starting to think my age is getting to me though I’m realizing it’s moreso that I’m tired of the bullshit publishers are pulling today selling half games and selling you everything piecemeal later.

I feel the same way. I find myself only buying games at launch from just a few developers. Most of the time it feels like they either release a half finished game and just finish it with updates over months to a year, or they only sell part of the game as they talk about upcoming dlc before the game even launches.

Maybe it's because I'm in my mid 40s and I suffer from "when I was a kid" syndrome. Although I try not to turn into a cranky old man and remind myself things will always change.

Anyone seen the MK 11 Premium Edition by chance?  Curious if it is an all-in-one package or the game and a separate Steelpak case like I have read in the US.

It's all-in-one. Steelbook in a slip sealed with shrinkwrap instead of stickers.
Is it a steelbook though? Not to nitpick but my understanding is it would be the same godawful case in the collector's edition but Gamestop I swear had steelbook packaging in some older promotional info that was never put on the web and everything else indicated the collector's case packaging. I ordered the Game steelbook because it's clear that's what there but even the UK collector's edition has the metalcase instead of a steelbook which makes things more confusing.

I've seen multiple unboxing of the CE and they are all those Metalpak style cases. Not sure why I referred to it as Steelpak but same shit lol.

I guess it's a metalpak with a paper sleeve. No way it's different from the collector's.

No midnight or 9pm release from what I've heard.

The listing for the Kollector's Edition says "Exclusive Steelcase & Magnet" while the Premium edition says "Official Steel Book® (physical version only. Limited quantities available.)" on GameStop's listings.

Best Buy mentions Steelcase and same with Amazon, so likely incorrect description by GameStop mentioning Steelbook.

There is a Steelbook case for sure, but may only be through Game.co.uk: https://steelbook.com/releases/mortal-kombat-11/

Got a call from GameStop about 9pm launch later tonight. Seeing on Reddit that should pre-ring prior to 9pm, but they said I can just show up, so not sure. Never gone to a launch thing at GameStop before.

I believe both Metalpak cases are different. The CE version is embossed with an indent to put the magnetic medallion in. The Premium Edition looks to just be a Metalpak case with printed artwork on it. I'm basing this off of the EU videos I have seen.

Really? The Premium is the same crappy case but without the magnet gimmick? SAD!

Here's the EU steelbook, while nothing special, is infinitely better than what NA got:

I got Far Cry 5 Gold Edition on XB1, and was surprised that it wasn't shrinkwrapped. It's just a thin sleeve over a steelbook, and circular tape over either end. I looked up some unboxings, and it appears that FC5 Gold for PS4 is shrinkwrapped, but FC5 Gold for XB1 isn't (at least for region 1 / ESRB). Weird.

Just FYI. Mk11 US Premium IS A STEELBOOK. Nice embossing on the back and front. Has a graphic inside of an ornate hourglass or some such. All black with gold lettering outside. I was gonna try and get the EU steel, but im kinda on the other side of the fence, now.

This Days Gone Statue from Level52 is sick, from the 2nd picture it looks like it's gonna be sold at Gamestop.

Picked up my MK 11 Steelbook edition. Thing is beat to shit lol. Never fucking fails. Seriously just debating on buying the vanilla version at this point lol.

No shit. The only way I don’t have issues is if they are part of a CE. I’m seriously over it since the Steelbook Gods apparently don’t like me whatsoever lol.
Eh, I got the Spider-Man CE sealed, brand new and mint from best buy. Opened it myself and the back of the steelbook has a nice dent in it.

Sweet, I can't wait to buy it for 20 bucks in a couple months!
$20 is about all it’s worth with the time gating, loot boxes, and paid dlc nonsense going on with the game. I’m actually surprised the $100 edition has higher quality content, specifically a real steelbook and not a fakepak, over the $300 version.

I heard that there are "challenges" like using uppercut 50 times in a match, which seems kind of silly. Not so sure about the forcing of online for certain unlocks based on that article. Replay value is good, but it sounds like unlocks are fairly random, so could definitely be frustrating.

I haven't played much so far, just gone through part of the tutorial mode last night.

It’s unfortunate you already started it since you couldn’t return it.

Until people stop spending their money on games that do this shit it’ll just keep getting worse. Protest with your wallet. Stop letting them get away with this.
Personally I’m past the point of waiting till they fix stuff like this to buy it- if a game does this I’m not buying it even if it goes on sale or gets a patch to fix the predatory nonsense. It’s just beyond ridiculous at this point.

I'm not fussy and the unlocks are mostly superficial (skins, icons, etc.) and don't affect gameplay unlike with Injustice 2, so not a huge deal. And they may release a patch to make adjustments regardless. I had no plan to return it. I'm not the type of person that needs to rush through a game in 2 days so I can go resell it or trade it in somewhere. Most fighting games make adjustments over time (1-2 years after release support) as they have become more "games as a service". I won't purchase anything to help unlock items, defeats the purpose of the game.

If it was a multiplayer only, online only game, and you need to pay to win, then I would be upset, but since that's not what MK11 is, not that big of a deal.

"This time around the loot is randomized, which is a big problem because of the fact that there’s just so much undesirable loot. You may open up an expensive chest hoping to find a new Fatality, skin, character intro, or Brutality, and wind up with just a bunch of gear augments for a character you don’t use, junk tower consumables, concept art, or some extra currency. "

This is the issue I have a lot today... too many people just suck it up and take it, sticking their head in the sand. Core parts of gameplay, of the MK experience, are locked behind paywalls. This just isn't about skins and costumes, fatalities are also locked. Once you let a company start down that path, it will never end. Assassin's Creed was once my favorite modern day series. ubi ruined it with odyssey. Once what was the most looked forward game for me I can no longer experience because I won't support companies who abuse their customers. The only way to win is to not play.

Same thing happened with mine. Ended up just returning it for a vanilla copy since they didn't have any replacements.

I just wonder if you can do all fatalities if you know the moves, or if you have to 'unlock' it in the krypt before it will recognize the inputs.

From what i have read, you can perform them in training mode, but need to unlock them in the Krypt to use them in the game.

I'm seeing lists of coordinates on where to find them and the cost of them. Some items are randomized in the Krypt however.

Maybe I'll change my opinion once i start playing the game more, but for now, it doesn't seem that bad. Sucks that krypt stuff is sometimes random, but allows more replay. In the end, as long as the fighting gameplay is enjoyable, then I'm fine.

Remember when rewards were given from playing the game? You know, like unlocking characters and skins? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

On that note my Days Gone B2G1 hackjob from Target shipped a couple days ago and even for ~$100, don't think I'll keep it. The extras are all meh and I know this will end up being $60 down the road, same as GoW was. Just hoping the game isn't a total flop because it really does seem like just another zombie game at this point.

Reading about Time Crystals and seeing the actual cost of them, if you were to buy them, MK11 has Dead or Alive beat on the potential cost of unlockables in the game if using real money. $5 for 500 time crystals and for example, a character intro, costs 750 time crystals, which is essentially $7.50. You could spend thousands of dollars...

Wow. NRS/WB better release a patch to fix that as it sounds like getting time crystals may not be an easy task and to defeat certain time towers requires specific items in order to beat. That is a bit crap if there are multiple instances of this, which sounds like it is.

Anyway, this is getting way off topic from collector's editions discussions.

So I'm about 15 hours in and level 25 with Odyssey and I'm just not seeing the greed. I fundamentally think it's greedy to offer XP boosts to circumvent doing side quests but the side content is good enough and the world good enough to warrant your attention. After that, I'd say it's confusing and possibly expensive if you are a completionist who wants every skin/horse/etc. Beyond that the amount of content given in the the vanilla and gold versions are just ridiculous.

MK11 looks much more offensive maybe because they just didn't test payout well (unlikely) or want to punish the average player into paying for consumables (likely). Not sure if WB is the culprit or Netherealm is complicit but if it's as bad as it looks I hope they are tarred and feathered in public over it.

I would take what he said with a bag of salt. It is an evolution to the series, and having plat'd the game about a month back, there's no greed here. I didn't pay for any extras and felt the overall experience was extremely satisfying.

The fact of the mater is that games cost a lot more to make nowadays and the prices haven't gone up on them as a result. These publishers/devs have got to make a profit somehow and the path that has seemed to work for a lot of them is microtransactions and I agree that some games handle them worse than others. In the case of AC Odyssey the game is filled to the brim with content and same can be said with MK11 as far as fighters go, but the thing with MK is that a lot of the content is behind the lootbox system and the Krypt and the in-game currency isn't exactly generous.

I'd personally be happy to pay more for games and not have any microtransactions, but the industry seems scared to release a standard edition of a game for more than $60 and would rather charger microtransactions and also release more expensive editions alongside the standard release.

I bought the gold edition day one and I'm happy to see how much content ubi has provided. About the the greed.. I was defending ubisoft on the whole paying for xp boost until halfway through the game. I did sidequests regularly and about halfway through I needed to level up like 6 levels for the next storyline mission and it became a bit grindy. Enemies leveled up with you too so you couldn't easily grind up. I've read that ubi adjusted the grind with updates and that could be the difference.
