GS FAQ

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

What do I need to trade in an older console?
The console, power cable, av cable, and controller. Sometimes they don't care about USB charge cable but ymmv. 3DS XL trade would be console, charger, and stylus. Some have reported being charged a refurb fee for missing the stylus, but again ymmv (answer stolen from anarchyburger)

FAQ will be entered when those questions get asked frequently.

Does the Pro Membership B2G1 coupon apply to only games, or accessories as well?
The coupon applies to both games and accessories, per the wording on the coupon.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free. Typically refers to the coupon you receive when becoming Pro.
GCU/BB: Gamer’s Club Unlocked, Best Buy
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

Thinking about The Division 2 (when it goes on sale next week). But seems the price dropped faster than the previous game. Is that a good or bad sign?!
It is arguably the best of the current crop of online looter shooters. It’s playable solo but much better in co-op. I’ve played 90% of the content from level 1 to post-original campaign gear score of 420 (of 500 currently) by myself.

The upcoming first three expansions are no extra charge, unlike Destiny 2, but those that pay get access 1 week early plus 8 (eventual, 2 current) extra side missions & don’t have to do anything to unlock the post campaign specializations (beyond the first 3 all receive when you reach that point.)

Did my move controller trade ins without problems. Also moved 200 in credit over to Best Buy. I guess I must be the only one that trades in there because no one seems to know how to do it. They tried to tell me that there's a limit for customer trade in of 3 games total, per day. Not the 3 per title limit that it's supposed to be. After I dealt with that, the employee then tried to do each game as a separate trade in. They were gonna ID and fingerprint me (law here in CA) 9 times and give me 9 separate gift cards rather than to it all at once because they didn't know how. Good times.
Actually what I have been having problems with the worst is the cover art on some of the games on the site. When they show the collector's edition or the gold edition and you trade in the standard edition and the employees refuse to take the game because it does match...

Had the weirdest B2G1 I think I've ever had; Got super lucky with stock for the first time in ages, and got obscenely lucky with a Gamestop error in my favor - but I didn't even notice the latter until long after I got home, because I was way too riled up from the simultaneous obscene unluckiness in actually finding a damn copy of SMT Strange Journey Redux.

Wasn't feeling well in the first place, burned through a couple hours I wanted to use elsewhere, and got increasingly road-ragey at everything on the way...BUT.

I got pristine, CIB copies of SMT SJ Redux, Ever Oasis, Metal Slug Anthology (Wii), Bad Apple wars (With Day one box!), Yakuza 4, AND Yakuza 3 (!!!)

...for $32.12. Total.

Didn't even realize it until I'd spent a few hours at home, since I was so burned on having to drive all over the damn city because of one store having incorrect stock totals & another having taken a trade-in of SMTIV as SMT SJ. Guess it was worth it, though; same inattention at location #2 seems to have resulted in me getting credited on return/rebuys for full non-PUR price, PLUS the prices of the free games. Got handed a good $50 in cash it turns out I didn't deserve; was three long receipts deep at that point, and I'd resigned to take whatever the gamestop lords worked out since I was in no mood to math it myself.

All worked out in the end though, aye? :whistle2:

Yea I’ll get trade credit back, but I can apply it to a game I already have preordered instead of a random game I don’t really want. I know it’s not the last purchase I’ll make at GameStop.

I didn’t know that the expansions were free. Thx for pointing out.

I haven't had trade credit problems for web orders (in-store or online) of in-stock items since black Friday 2017. However, I will never preorder a game via web with trade credit.

If I order a game online that supposed to come with 2 game discs and a bonus blu-ray disc. What are my chances of getting all 3? I know getting the steelbook that its came with is gonna be a no lol.

I've gotten a soundtrack with every obscure Soedesco release I've ordered online, but that's probably because they were converted to preowned instead of being traded in. It depends on the odds of finding it in a store (since that's where it'll probably be shipped from) and if it's highly sought after or not. I remember seeing a lot of Valkyria Chronicles/Yakuza steelbooks in store, so the odds for those would be high. I've gotten Skyward Sword and Kirby Collection soundtracks when I bought those on Wii, but that store was full of bros that wouldn't be interested in those anyway.

This is the game in question. I seen one pic of where someone got it with 3 discs lol. I wouldn't mind going there to swap out cases if I could.

Not sure this one is worth it tbh unless you try to locally sell the Wii's, they only trade back in for $10 a pop

edit: which is crazy because PS1's trade in for the same value but are half the price
It's definitely not worth it for me. I see a Wii once a week at my local thrift stores. I've probably bought and sold over 20 Wiis in just 5 years. Now I don't pay more than $20 for a complete Wii unless it comes with some kickass games.

Your orders will get cancelled.

GameStop has always had an issue of updating the gift card balance in a meaningful amount of time. But, in the end, if you didn't have enough on it for your next order, it'll get cancelled.
That may be true for physical items but digital items are sent instantly.

I know for sure that my order of PS move controllers won't arrive by Wednesday. The TIV will change. $24 is just way too good. I'll just return them if the value drops and claim that they don't work.

I think thats been the value for over a year. I've traded in 9 of them.

Try "xbox vintage"
The app has many more retro TIV listings than the website does, but it may not be an exhaustive list. I don't see the OG Xbox on there at all.
Can you get the app to give you a list of values? or do you still have to click each game to see the value?

Try "xbox vintage"
I guess this only works on the mobile site? I put that in the mobile site and then I can sort by TIV but i still have to click on each game to see what it trades in for instead of a list? I've never seen a company with such totally different desktop site vs mobile site vs app.

Yeah, just searched and only the PO is listed.
Minecraft story mode complete edition is still playable because its on disc. The others are not.
Have a feeling they have a lot of the Switch version at the warehouse that will be ready to go on shelves tomorrow. Going to see soon.

Minecraft Story Mode The Complete Adventure for the switch preowned? I just got one to flip for amazon credit. I might have to cancel the online order.

EDIT: Some of these are live for the new copies of snk and sushi striker. Minecraft doesn't have a new copy tho so Idk about a price drop

It looks like a lot of collector editions of older games have been marked down.

Fallout 76 Power Armor down to $100

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite down to $30

Ni no Kuni II down to $50
Nice Valkyria Chronicles 4: Memoirs From Battle Edition dropped down to 19.97. I saw one in my local store.

EDIT: It's not showing up in the store availability checker. I know for sure I saw it.

3 for $15 for $9.99 pre-owned titles.
Yeah, that might be useful, if I could spend some time looking at theist and seeing what's available locally.

Other than that, nothing particularly jumps out in the ad based on what I already have/been looking to add to my backlog. The Division 2 would probably be the top but if I hadn't just gotten it early this week digitally.

So they are doing the 20% trade credit bump again, towards Wolfenstein, Fire Emblem or Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. AND they are offering cash value same as credit. But not both at the same time, lol.

Yea, it is. Trying to get Penny Punching Princess, but it keeps removing it every time I go to checkout.
I dont think its actually available. I bought riot, snk heroines and sushi striker but had penny punching and it kept removing just that. did get the order through for the others though

50% extra trade credit for CA?
