Sega genesis mini preorders are live

I just looked up Madden on Wikipedia. Madden '92 should be doable since it lacks both the NFL and the NFLPA licenses. Madden '94 had just the NFL license. Madden '95 had both the NFL and the NFLPA licenses.

In regards to the PS4/PSN specifically, I believe the following titles are first-time debut for the moment :

Earthworm Jim

Castle of Illusion

World of Illusion

Thunder Force III

Super Fantasy Zone

Contra Hard Corps (recently announced to be in Konami's Contra Compilation for Summer 2019 release)

Ghouls 'n Ghosts

Mega Man Wily Wars (includes 3 exclusive bonus stages w/ original bosses to unlock)

Wily Wars
Wily Wars is essentially a compilation of the first 3 original NES Mega-man games, with slightly upgraded visuals and arranged music. Those games were released in the Mega Man Legacy Collection PS4 title a few years back. (Granted though, there are 3 bonus stages with original bosses within Wily Wars that can be unlocked after finishing the core games...hmmmm)

I hope this has Outrun as one of the last 10 games.  Even though there are better versions the Genesis version had some fantastic audio and looked pretty solid.

Those games were released in the Mega Man Legacy Collection PS4 title a few years back.
Also, I believe the Mega Man Legacy Collection only included the original NES versions of those games, and not the graphically revised Wily Wars versions. Wily Wars did have a commercial release in PAL regions, but never in NTSC regions. So basically, Europe and Japan got to enjoy this title on the original Genesis, and the United States didn't. These things happen sometimes. This will represent the first time the game has ever been available in an official commercial capacity in the U.S., aside from the AT Games Sega repro systems. (which most fans don't count, as they aren't very good)

Just ten more titles to be announced. Then it's basically just going to be updates on the software progress leading up to the release.

Final Additions (via polygon.com):

  • Tetris

The final 10 are not horrible but they do not have the same zing some of the other reveals had.  I'll probably go ahead and get a pre-order in, very good lineup.

Aladdin would've been sweet but Road Rash and Tetris is great. FYI - I don't see this being a problem but from the NES/SNES Classic launches, Best Buy handled the preorder and delivery process better than other retailers.

I'm going to skip out on the launch but if it ends up easily hackable and the emulation and UI is very well done I might consider one when they drop to $40.  As is, I still have plenty of other ways to play genesis games and honestly it's only every five or so years that the itch really strikes me.  So it would be more of a novelty purchase than anything.

Japan is also getting some plastic display addons (possibly part of a bundle) so you can do this...

wonder if it features Dantes from dmc2

I wish it was Road Rash 3.

No coach K or Live 95/96. Man those were big titles for the US Genesis, I was hoping one of those would have worked out. Hopefully it’s hackable.

That looks awesome.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not really seeing much if any EA games on this thing. The sports games I understand. Sports licensing is a constant challenge for retro games. But EA had a fairly significant output on the Genesis. I'm a little surprised that they aren't trying to get in on this. Companies like Konami and Capcom are going to get some pretty good PR out of these retro releases. Does EA just not care about its older, legacy titles?

Truly a kick-ass lineup. Was willing to wait for a deep price drop on the PS Classic. Getting this collection day 1. Glad to see Sega taking its mini console seriously.

I preordered mine when MegaMan Wily Wars was announced. I am disappointed that Sega teased TMNT on twitter and didnt deliver and i am sad that yet again no Sonic 3 is involved

Sadly, with a device like this, some games are always going to fall through the cracks for whatever reasons(license, fees, emulation, etc.), so it will never please 100% of the fans 100% of the time. That being said, overall this is a great line-up that really represents the best of what the Genesis/Mega Drive had to offer.

EDIT: Not like I would ever buy this, as I can play all these on most devices, including my 3DS/Vita, but if I had one complaint, it would be the 3 button pad over the 6. But I understand this choice as well, I just think they should have offered one of each, or the option at retail as to which controllers you would prefer.

I don't remember Tetris ever being released on the Genesis, at least on cartridge.  Is my memory that bad or was this a Sega Channel exclusive or something?

"Tetris was fully developed by Sega and an actual production run for the game started when some licensing issues halted the intended release. Supposedly, only 5-10 copies of the game exist, with Sega having likely ordered the entire first production run destroyed but some employees having managed to sneak some out." -gameInformer

Sonic 3 is being held hostage by Michael Jackson music.  It's time for them to compose some new music for the game.

Man that pictures screams 1990's Sega.

THE TOWER OF POWER! :whistle2: :baby: :applause:
AKA: The reason Sega no longer makes consoles in plastic form.

The last 10 aren't spectacular for me, but a fan made Darius and Tetris is a nice touch. Road Rash 2 is also a great move for the fans, a little EA love without treading into the sports games which I'm sure EA and the leagues wanted a ton for licensing. I could have easily done without Virtua Fighter 2 and Kid Chameleon, both are wasted spots on hot garbage. And I get that Eternal Champions has some fans, but it really isn't good either - that one is just fan service. The rest are solid choices, not as exciting as some of the earlier additions, but still decent.

It wasn't.
This and Darius are brand new releases afaik
I found this in wikipedia

While never originally ported to the Sega Geessis, a port of the game by M2 will be featured on the Sega Genesis Mini microconsole, scheduled for release in 2019.[14]

Neat

I'd be interested to know why 2 was chosen over 3! Already on my classic but still, buying one anyways for science..

RIP Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Aladdin, NBA Jam: Tournament Edition, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Hyperstone Heist, and Mortal Kombat II :(
The licensed stuff was likely not to happen. SEGA already has a license deal with Disney over the Castle of Illusion remake (and I suspect they may be working on a World of Illusion remake given the license deal's renewal) so it wasn't much of a stretch.
MK2 would have been cool but I don't associate it as a Genesis classic tbh. We already know why Sonic 3 is off-limits.

SEGA already having a license deal with Disney is why Aladdin makes sense. It's also the third highest selling Genesis game so there's probably a lot of nostalgia on it. MK2 is probably left off to keep the rating at T. NBA Jam no way with licensing all the retired players or heavily altering the game.

I'm sorry, but there's already alternate Genesis sounding remixes of the PC's versions of Carnival Night Zone, Ice Cap Zone, Launch Base Zone, the Credits theme, Menu themes, etc. out there. There was no excuse to leave this game out YET AGAIN, especially when they're releasing a 1st party replica of the home console the two (separate) games first appeared on. That, or they should have gotten Tee Lopes back in for some new renditions. Sure, they wouldn't have been the originals, but given the circumstances, I'm sure people would have at least accepted it, if it meant getting the game(s) released again.

I'm sure it'd have to be an entirely separate deal which maybe SEGA didn't think was worth it because they don't have a modern interpretation to sell elsewhere.
It's a no-brainer especially given the new live-action movie but maybe Disney has some sort of mobile cash grab planned for the IP instead.

Someone at SD reported that the Genesis Mini 6-button controller is on sale at $15 for Prime members. I don't have Prime, so I can't confirm.
Can anyone tell the difference between the linked above controller (actually called 8-button controller on amazon) and this one launching in September https://www.gamestop.com/accessories/sega-genesis-6-button-arcade-pad-usb-port-black/177503 ?

I guess the amazon one has two shoulder buttons and a middle 'mode' button that Retro-Bit is cutting out for the September release?

Thanks. Reminded me I needed to order a 6 button for genesis mini. I got the Amazon one because well, I hate gamestop. But they should be the same

Early Genesis Mini review impressions are starting to trickle in, and they all seem to be pretty positive. It looks like M2 has delivered on the software side of things, and Sega did a solid job on the hardware and exterior shell. Anyone who pre-ordered can rest easy on this one. We're not going to be getting a second Playstation Classic.

Only thing I saw negative is that there is a slight lag in the sound effects in games. Or at least that is what Game Sack's review shows.

Watched a couple of videos covering this with the main one being from My Life in Gaming.  Overall it sounds like the system is pretty decent.  I doubt the sound lag or the graphic errors on lines when moving, or the square pixels would bother me much.  In another video someone took apart the system and while the processor appears to be new the ram is clearly 256mb.  So the same as the NES/SNES Classic but 1/4 of what the PSC has.  Additionally the emulator is custom for these games... but if it's not compatible with a lot of other games then I'm sure people will just port over other emulators if/when it gets hacked.   Overall for $80, I think I'll just stick with playing these games by other means (compilations/ports/etc).  I did enjoy the Genesis but I don't go back to many of these games enough to warrant this where as a Saturn Mini would possibly get my money and a Dreamcast Mini would no doubt have me itching to see what the game list was as that was my favorite Sega system.
