Fanatical Thread

Extra 5% off sitewide with code EXTRASAVERS5 for the rest of the week.

Also 6 new games were added to the Prestige Collection - Build Your Own Bundle listed below:

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons
Fobia - St. Dinfna Hotel
GRIME
HYPERVIOLENT
Sunday Gold
Wasteland 3
That is kind of frustrating for me. I grabbed 9 Years in Shadow and Bravery and Greed over the weekend from this bundle. I would have loved to also get Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons for $21.99

Looks like I may just buy again and get Afterimage and Double Dragon.

It's probably worth firing off an email to fanatical support, they might be able to give you that deal since you did make the other purchase and just add another game to it.

I've had Shadow Madness on my wish list for a bit (played it on PSX and remember it being a bit lame haha), so I might get it. Just a note many of these are roms/isos with bad emulators, so it's probably recommended to find the game file in the installed folders and use a different emulator.

The only one of these I've played on Steam is Legend, which I also played on the SNES. I didn't know that they were selling Dark Rift. $80 on N64 was too much back then, but it looks so bad now I don't even think I'd try it bundled.

I'm tempted to get the retro bundle but that publisher really half asses their steam releases. For example O. D. T. is missing the music in the PC port and has problems with key/button bindings. Yet the GOG version doesn't have these issues whatsoever. It appears to be a bug (and not a licensing thing for the music). GOG version also has the same publisher so wtf. I think they'd be decent releases if the publisher gave a fuck, but it's obvious they were just using these games as a quick cash grab.

Wow @ 8 Eyes, Power Punch 2, Zero Tolerance and Shadow Madness. Never played any of 'em, but definitely remember these games in like old school game-review magazines like EGM, GamePro, etc etc. Feels like late 80's to 90's all over again.

Yeah that’s just all piko stuff. Maybe I’d nab some of em but i’m unsure if these releases are ones that typically include the rom itself for use in other emulators. If so maybe I’ll nab several since stuff like Second Samurai are serious gems

I thought I took in all the crap games back in the day.  I thought for sure I'd recognize everything on this list.  The only one I think I've seen before is Super 3D Noah's Ark.

I myself love old platformers and beat em ups am likely buying it some into it, as this bundle is filled with them. I don't think the quality of ports is amazing, but I may see for myself.

I was looking through reviews of Water Margin (a beat 'em up which I'm slightly interested in), and one of them made it sound like it can be used in an emu.

Since some of these comes w/ the ROM's, if the version bundled just ain't so hot w/ what the company's done "out-the-box" here for the Steam-version (or GOG-version) as it is...

1. Do we know which games here with the ROM's here work best with what exact emu's?

2. And which are the best emu's to use for certain platforms in general? (i.e. which emu's does Playstation ROM's work best in? Genesis ROM's? etc?)

Some of these, I wouldn't mind grabbing - i.e. Zero Tolerance, 8 Eyes, Shadow Madness, ODT, Meat Puppet.

I had Shadow Madness as a kid. It was one of those games that made me realize “hey I guess some video games can be bad.” Growing up on Nintendo, Capcom & Konami classics on NES and SNES, the thought never crossed my mind. But then I discovered Shadow Madness on my fancy new PlayStation.

I imagine it has aged so badly and is insufferable to play now since it was already pretty awful to begin with. Might check it out again lol.

Even back then it was very obvious that it was some FF7 ripoff. I think me and my friend played it over a weekend because we gave the characters stupid names. It wasn't very good.

So you never suffered through Acclaim, LJN, Tengen, Color Dreams, or any one of those? Jeez, you were a lucky kid.

I somehow missed hearing about Shadow Madness until today. Having been through Bible Adventures for NES, I hope it's at least better than that.

Huh, I see Iridion and Iridion 2 are on that list. I had no idea Piko owned those games...

I can make use of this sale, though. Some of these I already have on an AtGames puck, but I can definitely spare the money to help beef up my Steam collection.

It’s kinda unfair to lump Tengen in with the rest of those. Sure, they published some really bad games, but they also published stuff like RBI Baseball, Gauntlet IV, Grind Stormer, Robo Aleste, and Dragon’s Fury. While they didn’t develop most of them, these were among the better games on their respective platforms—a couple of them were among the best. Also fun fact—many of the key members of the Tengen team that developed Gauntlet IV for Genesis would go on to form M2.

Honestly kinda unfair to lump Color Dreams in with Acclaim/LJN, too—LJN may be legendary for releasing a ton of terrible games, but I don’t think anything they ever published is as bad as the best Color Dreams games. Color Dreams was a whole different level of shit.

My dad was a gamer and I just played what we had in the house already. Your Marios and Zeldas and Castlevanias and Mega Mans. I guess he had good taste but most likely he bought what was popular and cheap secondhand. We were still playing 8bit and 16bit when the 3D systems were out.

Finally we got a PS1 and N64 and I started getting my own games. I probably wanted Shadow Madness because it was a dirt cheap used 2-disc game and my dumb kid brain thought that double discs made it double good, like those Resident Evils and Final Fantasys I liked. Boy was I wrong.

I remember seeing 40 Winks on PS1 at Toys R Us. Of course there were many better looking games at the time so I didn't ask for it.

Bought Shadow Madness despite the above warnings, and it just might be the worst RPG I've played (besides Quest 64). It works fine in Duckstation, no crashes so far. I just can't find any redeeming features. The story, characters, and dialogue are bland, the battle system is a bore, the world map is the worst I've seen, and I guess there are a lot of music tracks, but nothing that comes close to the music of the PS1 or SNES greats. I was thinking about sticking with it at least until disc 2, but the dungeon design is horrible, and the battles are growing tiresome. If I ever did read about it in EGM, must have quickly forgotten it.

Ooof. I bought a PS1 copy last month for $10. Guess the Jade Cocoon demo will probably be the most fun part of that package.

Interesting mix of some bundled games and non bundled games. I highly recommend Nitro Kid as a pretty cool deck building Into the Spire like game. Dead Estate is alright, but not my favorite action rogue like.

Wow, really good bundle for me. Tinymin, Wytchwood and Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk were on my wishlist for a long while. Not For Broadcast and Nitro Kid look neat too so I even got the 2nd tier which I hardly ever do on Fanatical. This at least makes up for this month’s Humble Choice being an easy skip for me.

I grabbed Dungeon of N for myself, Frostpunk for my kid, and Pathologic 2 for a streamer friend to play during October. Not a bad bundle.

I'd strongly recommend getting Tinykin as your third game if it looks even remotely interesting to you.
I've been playing it and I'll go as far to say that it's one of the best 3D platformers in years.. although that's not saying much since halfway decent 3D platformers are hard to come by these days. It's humble quality so it'll be in a humble eventually, but hard to beat at this price unless it's in a dollar tier or something.

Play it first out of the bunch. It goes by really quickly, and there's no stress at all to it.
I agree, unless you're going for platinum medals in the races.. those were stressful to achieve for me
