Unfortunately, in publicly-traded companies there's a lot of pressure to accept the lowest bid because as they say "the line must go up." Short-term gains over long-term strategy; enshittification is real. It probably helps that they can offload any criticism to LRG - kinda like how musicians can just blame Ticketmaster for high prices.

My BS detector registered pretty high with LRG from the start. Immediate vibe of hungry wannabe big guys, riding a wave of support the little guy narrative; to better and more permanently secure their already privileged position, at the expense of the little and middle guy. The expense to everyone in this case being the acceptance of a much shittier physical buying experience, that no one asked for, in the guise of this is necessary to support small Indy titles. Its LRG and Josh’s private game collection that seems to have thrived, not indie developers. The bigger and more successful the wolves posing as shepards become, the more they can drop the facade, is where we unfortunately seem to be at now. Basically the modern American success story since Apple changed the paradigm.

I can't imagine, a company like Embracer actually knows what the value of that stuff is and it's highly unlikely that it's material to them; they likely don't care. Wikipedia says they have total assets of $8.6b, even if Josh's collection was $10m, that's ~.0012%. And I haven't seen his collection in years but I doubt it's anything close to $10m.

Embracer really only cares about actual IPs and Trademarks. Josh likely keeps it at the LRG warehouse for insurance/legal (i.e., tax avoidance) purposes.

Several of the LRG repros for NES/GEN/GB are in the Gamestop $15/$30 sale. In fact, they are probably the only games currently in stock for that sale.

Doom 1/2 combo pack presale ends tonight. I know their classics, but are they worth picking up with all the modern quality of life stuff? Worth waiting till VGP gets it in stock?

I'll be picking up DOOM 1 & 2 on Switch as I think it's a decent price for $30.. but might get Assault Suit Leynos 2 and High on Life as well to make a bundle.

Doug is posting about some sort of court thing which seems to be happening on the 30th, I take the implication to be something with Josh

While I don't know those four well, LRG doing more combo carts would be cool, for those games that would likely never sell a full $35 release.
Endling had a physical release a long time ago. VGP had the Xbox version for, like, $6 earlier this year. I like the idea of these combo packs too. I imagine, if they keep going this way, LRG finally realized a lot of the games they initially did as single releases just don't sell the numbers they need to.

I'd like more wanted compilations as well as the next obsessed collector but $60 is eh Idk.. I might get it.. but it's not a numbered release either so I might not even bother with it

While it's cool to see collections of indie games, the price just seems crazy considering how often these games go on sale. Using dekudeals for prices on eshop:

$ 4.49 Endling - Extinction is Forever
$ 2.99 Through the Darkest of Times
$ 4.99 One Hand Clapping
$ 3.99 El Hijo - A Wild West Tale
_____
$16.46 (+tax) = $18.14

VS

$59.99 + tax ($6) + shipping ($6?) = $72

I guess it's cool for those into physical at any price, but as a cag at heart... digital seems like the way to go for indies like this. That is, if I knew anything about any of these games.

Maybe get this game when it's released in the "Vault Drop" with %40 coupon would be $36.. Cause I don't see how it's worth dropping $60. I'd rather buy DOOM for the 5th time lol

I also thought it'd be $35 ($60 is too much), but we can play the digital release on sale vs physical release all day long with pretty much any game, indie or not.

Just when I think I'm out Shinobi Art of Vengence pulls me back in.

Shinobi is definitely a purchase.. Standard only for me.. that steelbook is great but $80 for just steelbook is pricey and $200 for the edition with statue makes me feel really poor lol. G.I. JOE Wrath of Cobra has been listed as Coming Soon for a long long time now .. I'd like to see that happen

$80 is much too much for just a Shinobi steelbook as extra.. that's $40 more and I can't justify it.. it's cool looking & I'd like it but standard for me once again as usual to save $$$

Way too expensive and LRG name a better combination. This looks like I'll just get it on PC and get a discount on digital. These prices are awful especially with shipping.

It's going to suck if the game ends up ho-hum.

I'll wait for it to be out, see it gets some positive feedback, and then decide. If it ends up worthy, I'll get it on sale or wait for VGP or someone else to get it (or just import when it's cheap).
The last Shinobi game that I played and truly loved was Legions on the saturn 30 years ago.

Nintendo Life did a brief interview over email with Josh about the physical on cart vs game key path LRG will do, but it was the answer to the first question that caught my attention.

Josh said that, when they do a CE of a game that's getting a regular retail release (he mentions Dead Space and Alan Wake II, but I'm going to assume it works the same for SEGA games like Sonic X Shadows Generations etc.), they buy the standard edition from the publisher and put them in their CEs.

What? Am I missing something? Why are they buying the games? Shouldn't the publisher provide them?

This would explain 1) why companies like SEGA are doing this in the first place and more and more, but 2) why these LRG CEs are getting so damn expensive. LRG has to make their money back on the game itself.

Who is negotiating these deals with publishers at LRG? They should be fired.

Was an interesting read for LRG and how the future of SWITCH 2 Games might be released through them.. cause they kinda just didn't really answer the question.. maybe/maybe not for Complete on Cartridge Physical etc.. if LRG can provide Physical switch games that otherwise would be Key-Card Crap I'll buy some games from them but they need to clarify.

They said all numbered releases are full on cart.

Got my A Boy & His Blob pretty quickly after it went on sale that night, & it seems to work on my Retron HD NES fine.

Is there anything I should be worried about using a repro cart like that on the Retron HD NES?
