2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

Kings at Ducks was pretty uneventful in the first period, save for that Anaheim goal 7 seconds into their power play. Otherwise, very few shots were taken by either team. Regardless, it's great to be able to watch my team in HD now rather than random NHL Network games. Tonight's game is in HD on the Ducks' channel and Thursday is on the Kings' affiliate.

The Kings are going on a minute and a half long 2 man advantage once the second period starts. Jonas Hiller is in goal for Anaheim, and he gave up 6 goals to the Kings early on in the season. Ersberg is back for the Kings.

Oh, and my friend uploaded the pics from Saturday's game. I'll be posting them soon.

EDIT: I love Drew Doughty, but I wanted to throw something at him tonight. Both Ducks goals (not counting the empty netter) in the Kings' 3-1 loss came on power plays after Doughty got called for penalties. Grr.On the bright side, Ersberg looks like he hasn't missed a beat and the 2 goals he gave up were on Anaheim power plays.

I keep forgetting to ask- does anyone follow the ECHL? A few days before Christmas, the Fresno Falcons- who were in first place in their division- folded, giving my Ontario Reign first place. I thought it was amusing that the first place team with their Carl's Jr. sponsorship folded due to attracting only 500 fans per game, while Ontario draws around 6,000 per.

Finally, here are the pics from the Kings/Flyers game. I suck at using my friend's camera, so there's some blurriness:

At least the Kings didn't get manhandled like the Coyotes did by the Blackhawks 6 - 0! YIKES. I missed the game, fortunately.

No, but they lost 5-0 to the Sabres despite doubling Buffalo's shot total.

Remember kiddies, Montreal at the Rangers on NHL Network at 7:30 Eastern/4:30 Pacific!

The Bluejackets have themselves an outstanding goaltending prospect. Steve Mason is pretty awesome.

Yeah, he's been stellar for us. I don't put last night's loss on him at all, he played incredibly well (as did Conklin).

With so many of our tops guys out, and against an elite team like Detroit, it would have been a huge steal to win that one. We were simply outgunned. I just hope Nash and Huselius aren't out too long.

Yup. Last nights game was much closer than the final score reflected.

I guess Nash took an odd fall into the boards. Hopefully he is back soon along with a bunch of other guys they have hurt.

OH HELL YEAH! I thought I'd only be going to 1 Kings game this year, but it turns out I will get to see 5 more! My friend called just now saying he got 4 tickets each to 5 games, for a total of $286. I only have to miss 1 Reign game, too. The Kings games are as follows:

Monday, January 12: Tampa Bay Lightning
Saturday, February 14th: Edmonton Oilers
Saturday, February 21st: Phoenix Coyotes
Monday, March 9th: Vancouver Canucks
Saturday, April 11th: San Jose Sharks

I'm fucking stoked.

DirecTV FTW.

I just watched the 3rd period of Habs/Rangers. I had to leave earlier. I've seen NYR play, but this was my first time, other than a few brief bits of HNIC, I've seen Montreal. No wonder they got 4 guys voted in as all-star starters. Sheesh.

Montreal ain't shit, they got 4 starters because they cheated the online voting system.

And with Claude Julien coaching the Eastern Conference team, they probably won't get anyone else on the roster.

January 13th, Boston vs Montreal, 7pm EST on VS. I'll be there, got real nice seats. Nothing quite like telling French Canadians they're gay.

Nice!

I had to see the Coyotes get raped by the Kings in person, so hopefully the Coyotes will return the favor.
^Yeah

- I'm sorry, if this is the way the Sharks are going to play they don't really deserve to be at the top, I mean I know they are ahead... but it's the fucking Islanders.

- Florida over Pits 6-1? ouch... lool

- Nice win Oilers

- The fact Philly is on top in the Eastern Atlantic is testament to how pathetic that division is. wow... lool
You might be confusing the Atlantic division with the Southeast, 3 of the worst teams in the east lie in that division. Carolina isn't going anywhere, the Caps will win the division by default for playing in that shitty division.

The Stars got embarassed in Detroit tonight. 6-1 final and with Turco getting pulled after two periods. It should have been 10-0.

I don't know about anyone else, but I am sick of guys delivering a good clean body check and then getting cheap shotted by an opposing team player. In tonights game Kronwall smoked Ribeiro then Ott flies in out of nowhere and gives Kronwall a wicked crosscheck in the back. This is the fucking NHL can't guys take a clean hit anymore?

Ott is a cheapshot artist, he'll take any opportunity to do that. This is all you need to know about Steve Ott:

Yeah it was. You have a sports package or something with DirecTV or your cable provider where you can watch the games?

Kings won 4-3 at home over Anaheim. LA took a 3-0 lead, 2 goals being scored on J.S. Giguere on two shots, 1 at the end of the 1st and one at the start of the 2nd- before he was pulled. Bobby Ryan scored 3 unanswered for Anaheim before Frolov knocked in the game winner.

It looks like the Kings are going with Jonathan Quick in goal for now. Either that, or they're going to platoon him and Ersberg. I approve more of the latter possibility.

Nah, I just watched it online. I watched the Coyotes game online since they didn't air it here, and so then I decided to check out the Kings/Ducks game after.
You might be confusing the Atlantic division with the Southeast, 3 of the worst teams in the east lie in that division.
Nope, but yeah... that division sucks too.

Awesome! It's the outcome I was expecting!

I dropped everything just to watch the SARS get OWNED again even though I've seen it many times. It just never gets fucking old! I fucking LOVE that video and have it saved!

Nice win for the Kings and it's always good to see the Mighty fucks lose.
Nope, but yeah... that division sucks too.

Just curious, what's your beef with a division you barely see? Other than you know, trash talk? I just find it funny that a Sharks fan is talking trash when your team was never relevant up until a few years ago.

If you notice I talk trash about a lot of things even the Sharks (like them choking last year...) and well about the divisions uh, if you look at the standings it's kinda obvious...

I haven't really read the entire thread, no point to really its old news. Still way too early to determine anything, other than Detroit and San Jose running away with their respective divisions. Unless one of them turns out to be this years Senators and just fall apart after being in the lead for so long.

Yeah, it was unnecessary. As I recall, it wasn't even really that huge of a hit by Kronwall, and Ribeiro wasn't hurt or anything, but still Ott came in and tried to stir it up. Ott probably did that just because they were down 5-1 or something at that point, so the game was becoming irrelevant.

The Stars looked like they didn't even belong in this league during that game. They play Phoenix tonight -- this is a game that would really be good for them to win.

For the Coyotes to win? I agree!

Coyotes have been playing pretty well this season, they will only get better since they are still maturing as players.

That's what makes it more hilarious for me. Big man (not really actually) thinks he's makin a big statement when in reality he's just makin even MORE of an ass of himself.

I only saw the last period of the Flyers/Leafs game, but based on that and seeing them in person, I must say that the Flyers are fun to watch.

Sharks and Canucks next, though I'll be flipping back and forth due to football and the Kings game.

Well, the Kings got rocked by the Devils, and the Sharks won their game, which was infinitely more entertaining than the Kings game. Boo.

What year are we in? oh that's right 09. sooooo why the fuck do we still have radio only games!? My friend and I we expecting to watch the damn game.

I can only recall one non-televised game here in decades, at Carolina, and that was because the Hurricanes refused to operate their cameras since they weren't televising it. Now of course there are rules which prevent shitty organizations from doing that.

Bruins/Habs, Tuesday night on OLN/Vs. Fortunately both Bruins announcers are doing the game, won't matter to me though since I'll be there. Should be a great game.

Yeah I hate when games are radio only, luckily most of the time the other team will be broadcasting so I can watch it on the internets.

I also hate that Coyotes don't have every game in HD like the Suns do as well as most Diamondback games. Instead they pick random games in HD, like tonight against the Wild. But the game against the Sharks two weeks from now? Nope.

About 15 of the Kings' games are radio only here.

Speaking of the Kings, Tampa's coming to town. Tonight is the first ever matchup between Stamkos and Drew Doughty, and I will be there live. :)

Apparently, the last time LA beat Tampa in LA was in November 1997. Tonight was another loss. The Lightning went up 3-0 not far into period 2 before the Kings decided to pull Ersberg. I think he hasn't fully healed yet, and I hope I'm right. If I'm wrong, then he's not who we thought he was, and that would suck.

Quick didn't allow any goals, but we lost 3-1.

Here are some pics I took at the game:

Last min. my sis asked me if I wanted to go because she got a free ticket. It was good fun. Got a bit silly though. During the 2nd intermission my dad and I went to the Shark store we didn't get back to our seat in time and missed two goals. xD lool Other notable incident is that there was actual Tampa fans there. (huh? really...?) Apparently, they started a fight and got thrown out. (didn't see that coming...)

Stamkos will be benched, and I believe that Doughty has a leg injury.

What will be exciting, though, is the match-up between Ovechkin and Malkin!

I was at the Bruins/Habs game that was on VS last night, had a blast. 8 rows from the glass, near the faceoff circle where the Bruins shoot once, but 2 Bruins goals were scored right in front of us, along with the save of the game and a couple of the biggest hits.

Even though both teams were missing a lot of their best players due to injury, I don't regret the price I paid for the seats. Great game.

Look, there we are:

And Thomas went nuts on a guy, away from us unfortunately:

Wings beat the Ducks in a close one. Games between these two have been damn good the last few years. Ducks really miss Teemu. Lots of Wings fans hate the Ducks I think they are very physical and entertaining team to watch. Fatty in net drives me a little nuts though. His equipment couldn't be any bigger. Its like watching the Michellin Man play goal.

Giguere is on my fantasy team. I want to drop the fucker so bad (can't cut him, though). He's got so many losses for me this year.
