2008-09 NHL Thread - Stanley Cup Finals begin May 30!!!

Kovalev!? Are you serious... wow. FAIL

I'm sorry Thomas if it makes you feel better I'm much more a Boston fan than a retarded Habs fan now.

Nevermind the stupid SDtv...

thomas should have been MVP. and i cant believe mclellan didnt put marleau in the shoot out, i mean hes only your captain and the leading goal scorer in the west... doan i understood, he won the competition the night before, but nash second... well so i dont hate todd mclellan im going to assume he had marleau as the third shooter, and focus my hate on doan and nash instead.
Nevermind the stupid SDtv..
Do you own an HDTV? Just wondering because I think hockey more than any other sport benefits from HD.

I didn't watch a single minute of the All Star weekend.

Oh fuck yeah, I own an HDtv well, sorta. It's a 28in. 1080p Monitor but I have a standalone HDtv tuner for it. My dad has a 60in. 1080p plasma. Hockey and reading words on the screen is what made me realize how bad SDtv really is. Unfortunately, we don't have Dish HD yet.

Heads across Canada just exploded.

Henrik Zetterberg signs a 12year 72million contract which is slightly front loaded. The last two years are at 1million per season in case he wants a buy out to retire. This gives the Wings an average cap hit of 6million a season well below what he could have gotten this Summer on the open market.

Some entertaining comments from TSN

"Wings discount sucks. They gotta do something about this next time CBA comes up. They're the New York Yankees of the NHL, and it's lame that other teams have to pay twice as much to get talent."

"Nice to finally see somebody finally taking less just to stay on a good team and win (sucks that were talking about it now at 7 mil), but he could have easily got 9 or 10 million but he chose to take 7 mil. Finally a athlete who realizes "Hey, I think I could live off of $71 Million"."

I could go to the Kings game tonight for free if I had transportation. But thankfully, someone at another forum posted a stream link. Tonight's game along with Saturday's and Tuesday's are not televised here.

My bro and dad were at the Bruins game tonight. Tough loss, but I can't believe they even got back in it in the 3rd the way they played the 1st 2.

Wings took it in the rear from the Stars tonight. Dallas came out flying and got a whopper lead my boys couldn't make up. Congrats to Marty Turco. It only took him 8 years but he finally got a regular season victory in Detroit.

Now that we have that out of the way. That friggin ref O'Halloran has to really hate the Wings. Maybe Tomas Holmstrom kicked his dog. Watch the four separate videos below. All four are waived off goals three from this guy in the playoffs last year and the last tonight by him. In all four cases the only ref out of the two to waive off the goals is guess who? Dan O'Halloran.

Am I going nuts or is this guy just that bad?

It was nice to see the Stars (especially Turco) play so well. I was shocked when I turned the game on near the end of the first and the Stars were up 3-0. The Stars were consistently winning pucks and making good passes. Hopefully they can keep it going.

That goal they waived off was... pretty questionable. Turco was bitching at the referees the entire game about Holmstrom in his crease, so that's probably why they waived it off. Turco totally flopped after they scored to sell it, and it worked. I'm surprised they didn't call any penalties on Turco for hacking Holmstrom's legs any time he was near the crease.

Actually, overall, I thought the game was pretty poorly officiated. Conklin really overreacted after Steve Ott's drive-by, and I can't believe they gave Sydor a penalty for delaying the game when he "intentionally" knocked the goal post off after saving a goal.

Wow, Josh Georges got ROCKED.
LOL, I think Holmstrom needs to put "target" or "sucker" on his forehead.

That fuck Parros cut his hair?
Parros cut his hair a month ago for some cancer wig thing or something. He does it every year. He still has his mighty mustache.
turco is the biggest bitch goalie in hockey
I'd agree. Gets away with a lot more shit than he should be able to too.
He still has his mighty mustache.
Yeah... and he's still a Mighty fuck. ha

The Stars pounded the Jackets last night for their fourth win in a row and moved into a playoff position (for now ). Rough night for Steve Mason.

That's why they call Turco the luckiest goalie in the league. He's still pretty entertaining to watch, though.
Mother fuck. Habs tie it up with 2 minutes left and then get a cheap PP goal with 30 seconds left to beat the Kings 4-3.
Sorry, man, but the Kings just blew it. Two Frolov breakaways (including a two-on-zero shorthanded breakaway!) and they couldn't add to their lead, and then Higgins tied the game. And that last goal was pretty indisputable, as I saw it -- the referee was behind the net to have a good view of the loose puck the whole time. Quick actually knocked it into the goal with he tried to cover it. Maybe the penalty they called against the Kings to put the Habs on the powerplay was cheap, but then again, most of the penalties they call these days are cheap.

Well, the blown call on Higgins tying goal in the 3rd was just pure garbage. He couldn't skate past Doughty, so he pulls him down by the shoulder to get an open shot... cheap play and poor officiating!!!

Don't worry, the Habs got theirs today, even after being handed two 5 on 3's.

Robert Lang out for the year, career could be over. Very unfortunate, never like to see injuries like that.

Yeah sucks for Lang. He is one funny dude. I really liked him as a Red Wing.

On a side note the Canadiens throw backs need to be thrown out.

I went to the Stars game last night against the Flames -- it was a good win for Dallas. They fell behind early, but got back into it with consistent play. It helped that Calgary had a game last night, and it started to show in their passing as the game went on. Both Turco and Kiprusoff played really well, though.

Funny story: Before the game started, when they were introducing the Stars (like they do before every game), they had a bunch of spotlights with the Stars logo flying around the ice. For some inexplicable reason, one of them was showing the Senators logo. They had it going for a good 2-3 minutes before they turned it off.

I thought it was pretty hilarious, but somehow nobody else seemed to notice!

Wings won a close game against Phoenix. I thought The Great One was going to lose his mind on the bench. The officiating was horrid.

Saw highlights... His blood pressure must be through the roof. lol

Ok, so I was watching part of the Boston game and they were talking about how the league allowed Chara to have a longer stick because of his height, but nobody knows the size because it's been kept a secret. Erm... why?

Thats silly, he uses a 65 inch stick. They were probably just too lazy to find out, the maximum is 63 inches without approval from the league.

Bruins with a good win over Philly today. In the last 8 days they've played Washington, New Jersey, the Rangers, Montreal, and Philly, and they're 4-0-1.

Yeah bad calls both ways... Gretzky is always crazy mad.

Good game, I was hoping they would be able to get the win but again it's nice to see the Coyotes holding their own against the best teams in the NHL.

The recent stretch of red hot play by St. Louis Blues goaltender Chris Mason means that Manny Legace has become expendable as the Blues placed the former All-Star netminder on waivers Friday.

The 36-year old Legace has posted a 13-9-2 record in 29 games with the Blues this season, but has been getting fewer and fewer starts thanks to the emergence of Mason.

"It's extremely tough," Legace told the St. Louis Dispatch. "You play your heart out for a team, and the minute you hit a little bit of a rough patch, they dump on you. It was very hard to hear."

Since mid-January, Mason has been one of the top goaltenders in the league, sporting a 4-1-1 record with a .956 save percentage and a 1.29 goals against average. He has also picked up a pair of shutouts.

The 32-year old Mason told FSN that he attributes his recent string of play to the fact that he feels lighter after getting his eyebrows tweezed and nose hairs waxed on January 15th.

Well... uh, that should be a lesson for all you kids wanting to get into the NHL.

In other news... went to the Sharks game and wow was that a waste of time. Also, if they are going to call THAT a penalty shot then please, Make this sport no contact and call it Basketball.

Oh yeah, I saw highlights of the SARS/whoever game and It was great to see someone making Turco look stupid. lool

Hay Rangers... You fucking suck 10-2!? Wtf are you guys doing!? You know why you and the rest of the teams in your division fucking suck? Because the Devils are in first. Idiots...

They must've heard that they're close to bringing back Sean Avery. If I'm Dallas I'm thrilled that I only have to pay half his salary to be rid of him. Even with all the antics and strange behavior aside, he's simply not a team player. Can't play with him, can't win with him, can't coach with him. Can't do it.

He wasn't a team player and thats why the Wings got rid of him years back.

Steve Valiquette totally self-destructed in the third period of the Stars game last night: The Stars had 10 shots on goal, and he managed to stop... only four of them. All of them -- except for maybe a couple -- looked pretty stoppable to me. He was getting absolutely no help from the guys in front of him, though.

After it got to 6-2, I was laughing my ass off as they just kept scoring. James Neal's first goal was pretty badass, and then on his second he just kind of took it from Brunnstrom and was like "I'll handle this."
