2010-2011 NBA Season Thread

Rondo out a couple weeks with that ankle injury. Ouch.

This would be an opportune time for the rest of the Eastern conference to make up some ground.
So the Bulls win 7 in a row and are looking great and then Noah has thumb surgery and is out up to 10 weeks..... fuck.
I know man. FUUUUUUUUUUU. The Bulls will be OK, but they need Noah back. They still have a really good team though.

Now my homeboy Asik gets to step up and show the world what he's made of.
I don't know about others, but I thought Amare's buzzer (non)beater was more impressive. Too bad it didn't count
Would have been more impressive if it did. :D

Magic are sending Carter, Gortat and Pietrus to the Suns for Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark.

I like the trade, hate losing Gortat, but the offense hasn't been the same since Turkoglu left. And Richardson gives them a perimeter player who can attack the rim finally.

I don't like the other rumored trade of Rashard Lewis for Gilbert Arenas though. Lewis hasn't been great the past year plus, but I don't see Arenas being a good fit.

The Arenas deal has been confirmed as well, Orlando's got a whole different look now. Rashard Lewis and Vince Carter were a disaster, something had to be done.

The Carter-JRich trade was a steal for the Magic. I don't know about the Arenas deal though. I don't think he's the same as he was 3 or 4 years ago. Lewis isn't good value for his contract either, so it may be an even trade after all is said and done.

They have to move Duhon or Nelson now, either start Nelson, Arenas, Richardson and go small at 1, 2, and 3 or bring Arenas off the bench as the 6th man, but he's not gonna like it at all. I like what the Magic tried to do here, but I just don't know about it. Suns look like they've given up hope with this trade.

Bulls are playing pretty bad tonight against the Clippers. :bomb:

Edit: Jordan on the Clippers was at the free throw line and he completely air balled it. It wasn't anywhere even near the basket. They showed his reaction and even he couldn't believe it. Wow.

hmm very interesting trade, for some reason i expect hedo and gilbert to start beasting again on the magic. the jrich aquisition is meh to me
I don't agree with trading Jason Richardson at all, blergh.
It sucks, but it gets us out of Hedo's horrible contract, which is a huge plus.

I don't know that I like the trades. I think the loss of Gortat will bite us in the butt bad. Yes, we get rid of the ridiculous contract of Lewis but we pick up an equally bad contract of Arenas.

My guess is Richardson starts at the 2 and Arenas backs him up. I think Redick gets screwed in the end.

I am hoping these moves put Bass into getting starter minutes.

This is true, and it's doubtful that the Suns were going to re-sign Jason Richardson anyway, I just became quite a fan of his game since coming to Phoenix.

Same here. He played his heart out every night, and was awesome for us in the playoffs last year. I'm really intrigued by Gortat, looks like he'll help with the lack of rebounding, and seems to play the pick and roll game well. I think he could easily average near a double double playing with Nash. Hopefully the awesome medical staff can rejuvenate Carter somewhat. It'd be nice to see him moved at the deadline for some good pieces. It's also nice to be getting a draft pick instead of giving them away for once.

Wow, my Bulls beat the Sixers so badly yesterday, score was pretty funny (beat them by 45 points, led by over 50 part of the game).

I just got back from the Verizon Center in DC, watching Bulls vs. Wizards. Fun game and glad to see the Bulls win. Got to slap hands with a bunch of Bulls players like Korver, Brewer, etc.

Go Kings! We will make the playoffs for sure!

On a more serious note, I think the Magic trade can work, but I don't see Jameer and Arenas playing well together.

I can see the Magic trading Jameer for a solid big man. If Arenas and Richardson can work together like the old days in Golden State, they might have something. Then again Hedo needs the ball in his hands (not a straight spot up shooter) to do damage so they'll need to work that into the offense as well.

Team chemistry is completely flipped upside down, but at least they'll have most of the season to work out the kinks (unlike the Cavs from last year).

I think the Suns got two really good pick ups with Gortat and Peitrus that will set them up for the future. Vince Carter is just icing on the cake. They still have an outside shot of making the playoffs if he can get it together. I feel sorry for Nash though because I just don't see the Suns improving to championship form before he retires.

Man, is Bruce Bowen not the worst tv personality of recent age? I cant get over how this tool tried to intentional hurt so many people and now he is trying to give insight on defense.

Wow, you sound like Ray Allen. Just because someone plays solid pesky defense people say hes dirty. If you want to talk about dirty bring up Jason Terry, someone who stoops as low as punching an ex long time teammate in the balls. Disgusting.... Bruce was a huge part of the Spurs championships in 03' 05' and 07', screw that shit against Phoenix or the Hornets. Chris Paul is a whiny little bitch just like the rest of that Hornets team. It's a sport, and sports are physical... get over it and man the fuck up. As you can tell this is a touchy subject for me. Dirty and pesky are completely different, Bowen has never been malicious... unless you're a fat young kid, he hates young fatties. Go Spurs Go!

What the hell are you talking about? Calm down, read, then start making sense.

There are lots of dirty players in the NBA no one is disputing that, Bruce Bowen is simply one of them. When you contort your body and intentional put your foot under jumping players, many times thats dirty. Dont be a tool and try to defend jump kicking someone in the face as somehow being "just more physically."

I see that you are a spurs fan which means you probably have blinders on. I also see that you are new to CAG which means you would have missed the dozens of my post that beg the NBA to be more defensive and physically. Also, know that I am not a fan of any NBA team and I have nothing against the spurs, except Manu who used to flop like he got points for it. (Doesnt do it anymore)

DT. Being that I am from the Detroit era my hatred for Matt Millen runs very deep. Screw that guy. But while we are naming people add Shannon Sharpe to the list.

Lets have a Bruce Bowen attack montage. GO!!!

Wow, Spurs fans really defend Bowen? Being a physical player is not the same as trying to intentionally injure other players. They are not equal.

All I'm saying is that others are much worse than Bruce Bowen, I really can't believe that no one has said Jason Terry or Jalen Rose. Easily the two dirtiest players ever in the NBA. But besides talking about Bruce Bowen, I'm not just a spurs fan... I'm a huge basketball fan in general. I appreciate athletic ability and when someone is really effing good at what they're paid to do (i.e. Steve Jobs, Meryl Streep, Kevin Durant... ect). So in general when a good player is getting trashed i will fight tooth and nail to defend them. But talking about blinders, you live in Detroit... Bruce was a huge part in them not winning a Championship 05'... thus I'm sure you've heard a lot of biased conversation on the topic. Yes I'm sorry i haven't been a member of CAG for very long, but the little time i have been here I've been here strictly for games. Now that i see there are Spurs haters here i have to defend my honor! So on the back of our 15 point victory over the Lake Show tonight here's to 27-4 and a great rest of the season!

One incident in a highly contested playoff series doesn't make a player dirty. Also he shouldn't have gotten suspended when Kaman got hit in the nuts earlier in the playoffs and the offending player just got a fine. Same thing with Stack getting suspended for the hard foul on Shaq. I have yet to see anyone else suspended for a similar foul.

Still bitter and no matter what happens I won't get over it.

Nuggets want so much for Melo, I hope they don't get jack andh e staves it off until free agency.

I need the Celtics to get healthy faster. :(

I can't wait to see mellow go to an east coast team, i never liked that thug and i never will. But as for Boston, as long as you have Pierce you should be fine. KG is a big thing to miss, but Pierce did just fine before any of them arrived and he will continue to shine while KG is out. As for the rest of the NBA, it does seem to be falling apart. With the exception of a few teams, most play is sloppy at best. Half of the teams in the NBA right now are below .500, 9 of which come from the East. Everyone needs to step their game up! It's been a long time since i've seen an exciting and competitive Finals, so heres to the new year and a competitive last half of the season.

P.S.
I've been looking forward to this game against Boston on Wednesday!

I guess the NBA only want young players to do flashy dunks now :/

The dunk contest has been shitty for a long time. Even Howards dunk stuff with Robinson was 2 part gimmick.

In order for the dunk contest to become relevant again you must get current superstars. Kobe, Bron, Roy, Durant, Westbrook, Rose, Wade, etc etc. No one cares about bench warmers an role players. Griffin is a good start and although Jennings is a great player no one wants to seem him dunk.

Another year of skipping the entire all star weekend. Man, I remember how much I loved this as a kid but after Vince Carter crazy performance nothing as been exciting about.

^This I remember back when Jordan, Wilkins, Webb, Drexler, etc made the dunk contest a must watch event! Plus Vincanity, Rider, etc. I have not cared since then just like you.

Seriously, if you got the stars of today together for dunk contest it would be awesome! Ever since I saw Bron in the Mcdonalds AA dunk contest, I wanted him to be in the NBA one. The sad thing is that contest or college one are the only ones worth watching now days.
I guess the NBA only want young players to do flashy dunks now :/
It's not the NBA. The star players just don't want to do it these days, and want the time to rest up over the break rather than having to practice dunks etc.

Can't say I blame them, since winning a title is the ultimate goal. But it does make the dunk contests not worth watching.

I think that is because Stern has turned it into a joke. Back in the day it actual meant something to win it. Just like the old school Baseball All star game. But thanks to his family friendly PC crap there needs to be break dancing and horse (although that is the best thing going) and fireworks and 50 tv ads. Its a joke.

If you put Jordan next the Wilkins they would try their hardest to beat each other and prove that they were better. So that they could hold it against them like true competitors.

Now a days you got these no name bench/role players who even after winning it will go right back to utterly obscurity taking 4 or 5 attempts to put down dunks because they are not that good to begin with.

The only thing good about the contest now is when kenny the Jet makes fun of bums.

All Star break is silly now-a-days. Most dunkers repeat old school dunkers. Dwight was really the only person that changed that up with the Sticker dunk. I expect this year to be a bunch of power dunks since 3 of the guys play PF/C i.e. nothing that looks good. I guess we leave dunking to the And1 Ballers.

Just dropped on in to sing the praises of my new favorite player, Landry Fields. Another efficient game last night. 14 points on 6 of 6 shooting and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes. I love the kid.

Magic are playing really well since the trades. Dropped the first 2 games, but have since won 8 straight.

Richardson is an upgrade on Carter, they never should have let Turkoglu go 2 years ago. Clark showed some promise last night as well. Arenas I could take or leave, but getting rid of Lewis has meant more minutes for Bass and Anderson which is a good thing.

Moving Lewis has been great for my fantasy numbers. Last night posted 16 pts, 13 boards, 6 assists, 3 steals, 1 block. Where was this guy when he played for us...

The team has been playing good but come playoff time we are going to run into problems. We can score but are terrible on the defensive end when Howard is off the floor.

17 dimes by Turk helps my fantasy team a ton. It's crazy how terrible he was with the Raptors and the Suns, and is just utterly dominant when he's with the Magic.

Last week was looking terrible for my fantasy team, boozer and Amar'e pulled it out of the fire though.

Anthony, billups, and Hamilton all on the Nets huh.

I liked Turk, but yeah he was pretty worthless for us considering how much he was getting paid.
This dunk my man D Rose was AWESOME yesterday
Amazing. He got to his highest point before the ball even got there, stayed up, found the ball with one hand, and dunked it in. He should replace Jannings on the dunk contest.

i dont really care much for basketball outside of the playoffs. but i read today that 'arco arena' will now be known as 'power balance pavilion' as of march 1st.

im so embarrassed.
