2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain
Wow! fucking dirty by the Italians there. There was no reason at all for them to come in the net like that.
Slovakian goalie poked the Italian player in the eye. Did he oversell? Maybe but he was still poked in the eye.

3-1. Goodnight, Italy. Crazy that the Slovakian just came off the bench and immediately clinched the game.

Why was he in the net in the first place? There was NO REASON for him to be there.

I was thinking that too but my dad told me it was cause the goalie was trying to hold onto the ball so he can try and drain as much time as possible. The Italian player was trying to hurry him up but got to close I guess.

The ball was in the dead corner of the net. Both Italian players came over and went directly in to the goal. That's BS.

As soon as I turned the game off to actually do work, it got good. Great! :D

Slovakia and Paraguay move on.

Bye bye Italy, don't let the door hit you on your ass on the way out. Though if it did, I'm sure you'd fall to the ground and writhe around for 20 minutes.

Crazy that neither finalist from the last WC made it out of their group. At this point, the only thing that would make this WC crazier is if Spain fails to get in. Actually, Ivory Coast somehow getting in would be crazier, but that would make my head explode.
wow, Italy almost tied numerous times. Italy outplayed Slovakia big time in my opinion.
Possession often times equates to outplaying, but not in this occasion. If you hold the ball 90% of the time, and don't produce scoring chances it amounts to nothing (see Spain's first game for reference)
The Italians were slow and had no idea how to generate an attack until the last 20 minutes. By then it was too little too late.

That would be really interesting. However, if the Chileans are able to take the ball away from the Spaniards, it would not be a surprise to have this end up as a tie or the unthinkable: a win for Chile.
Most attacking teams do very poorly when the ball is taken away from them (Brazil in particular is horrible when playing just to defend).

The worst part about Italy is the have nobody really all that good in the middle line. Defense wasn't as beastly as the last time around. I guess this disappointment could have been somewhat predicted.

I don't think anyone expected them to win it, but going out in the group phase is definitely a surprise, especially given that a team like New Zealand should have been an easy win for them. They finished LAST in the group, it's pretty unbelievable.

Amazingly, after no free kicks (I'm pretty sure) going for goals in the entire Cup, Japan has TWO beautiful ones in this game. Unbelievable.

I like watching Honda. The way he stops the ball for himself is pleasant. Japanese offense was really fast in the offensive zone which did not know was part of their game or maybe DEN has slower defense. Did you guys think the penalty kick was fair? I'd say it was deserved even with the added effect to make it visible. Which reminds me. I disliked how the ref was throwing out yellows for header battles.

I think Denmark hurt itself with the type of offense it was playing (typical throw the ball in and hope for a header or long range shots.) This is the best game the Japanese have played so far. Even in the previous win against Cameroon they looked disjointed (Honda + 10). They kept the ball on the ground, and obviously the 2 best spot kicks of this tournament sealed the win for them.

As for the PK had it mattered it would've been controversial. I've seen some called for less, so it wasn't totally unexpected.

Today is the last game of my beloved Honduras, hopefully they'll at least tie with the Swiss. At this point only a miracle will get us to the second round but Im not holding my hopes up. Today really sucks because Im gonna have to be swtiching between channels every 5 minutes, All 4 games are gonna rock.

Ivory Coast leads 2-0 over North Korea. Portugal and Brazil are tied at 0-0. IC gets in with 5 more goals and Brazil loses without scoring a goal.

Yeah, that was awful by the goalie.

For those not watching, goal keeper came way out to challenge a break away (kind of, was a defender with the atacker). Slid and knocked the ball away, and it rolled to David Villa who scored a goal from probably 50 yards since there was no one near the goal.

South Korea just scored to even it at 1.

Poor by Uruguay this half, haven't tried much on offence, been sitting back with 8+ on defense. SK had the ball around their box nearly constantly this half, only so long you can play like that without giving up a goal.

Fantastic goal from Suarez to put Uruguay up 2-1.

They've played great after the SK goal and they went back on the attack instead of playing sit back and protect.

Futbol is just like Football in that regard--the only thing prevent defense does is prevent you from winning!

Wow did Korea whiff big time on that chance with 4 minutes left to go. That had to be one of the weakest kicks I have ever seen one on one with the goalie. If the pitch wasn't all wet, the rebound would have went into the net.

Uruguay wins 2-1 and awaits the winner of the U.S. and Ghana.

I personally was cheering for South Korea. They seemed the better of the two teams for most of the game, and Uruguay seemed really set on the counter attack. It worked for Uruguay.
On paper I'd say the US is a better team than Ghana, but Ghana has the home continent advantage, so we'll see I guess. I'd say a 2-0 victory for the US. I'm a little annoyed to see that the bracket is forming up to fairly easy for the US. The US can make it to the semi finals facing only one powerhouse team (ie. a team that's ranked by FIFA in say the top 10). I love the fact that soccer in the US is getting bigger, but if the US makes it to the semi finals and faces either the Netherlands or Brazil they will definitely lose. In any case, they have the easiest route to the semis out of all the teams around.

Very entertaining game. Uruguay should've never sat back to wait. A quick team like the South Koreans are much better with the ball than when they have to defend. It was only a matter of time before they scored.
Strikers like Suarez (love them or hate them) show why it's worth keeping them in for 90 minutes. 'Cause they may look like they are are out of it for 89 minutes and then a single strike or brilliance shows how valuable they are.

One good thing though is the vuvuzela's kind of eliminate home field advantage. Every match is a constant barrage of the horns, so you don't get any team specific cheering, chanting, singing etc. So at least the crowd doesn't play into very much.

And yes, the US definitely lucked out in terms of the road to the semi-finals. They could lose today or in the next game for sure, none of these teams stick or anything. But you can't ask for an easier path to the semi finals. I mean look at Germany-England and Spain-Portugal stuck playing each other in the round of 16 etc.

So we have a golden opportunity, and I hope we make the most of it!
US gives up yet another early goal on the counter attack! :bomb:
Ricardo Clark was an idiot to try and pull that stunt and than gives himself a yellow card after that. The only question to the lineup is why not start Maurice Edu in that place. He is the only one that can be physical against these big players..

The US looks practically lost out there right now.

Cherundulo with a terrible turnover, and picks up a yellow card stopping the break from behind. Will miss the next match if the US comes back.

I really don't understand why they started Clark instead of Edu.
