2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain

yea the netherlands were definitely playing terrible, but they still took care of the Danish fairly easily even though it did take an own goal to start it. I think the substitutions really livened up the team. Van Persie was playing like garbage all game and should've been subbed a lot earlier, wasting chances because he prefers shooting with his left.
Japan came out with the surprise win, although I have to admit when I saw them in a friendly against England they played well (and scored all 3 goals in their 2-1 loss). Second place in the group will depend on how well Japan plays against Denmark I'd say.

These are. SO. awesome. Picard facepalm is probably the best.

My first thought about the vuvuzelas was:

Ticket to South Africa - $XXXX
Food and lodging - $XXXX
World Cup souveniers - $XXX
Tickets to a game - $XXX
Sitting next to a jackass blowing a vuvuzela all game long - PRICELESS

hahaahahahahahahaha

They are not that damn bad. If you are a real soccer fan you have already heard many constant annoying things coming from the audience.

Get the hell over it.

its not that they are bad, I just really miss actually hearing the crowd do its usual thing.....like chant songs that are audible....Each country has their own songs that could be heard, but now cause of those terrible things I can't hear a damn thing.

I missed the Italy - Paraguay game, anyone have any insight on why the hell Italy would draw that game? I know the real Italian stars are getting older and all, but man, its sad that they drew that game.

Coming back on awesome game finishes, check out the highlights of the New Zealand - Slovakia game. Slovakia almost had it until New Zealand tied it up with only 30 seconds left of injury time. Great ending to a game where both teams seemed fairly evenly matched.

They looked very disorganized, fluttered, and sloppy. I was surprised that they even got the one goal they did. Definitely unimpressed with them, so far.

Agreed. It wasn't until they switched formation until they even started to show any signs of life at all. I believe they spent a good bit of the game arguing with each other. The vuvzela's probably didn't help either.

Wow, Ivory Coast looked very strong without Drogba playing for most of the game. I'm very impressed. Although maybe Portugal isn't as good as they are labelling them to be (with the FIFA #3 spot). Beautiful shot from Ronaldo on the post, which was his only highlight despite his Oscar dive performance. I would like to see Ivory Coast make it to the next round over Portugal, although it'll depend on how well each team does against Brazil and who will score more against North Korea.
This afternoon we'll see how strong Brazil really is.

Portugal looked pretty weak against Ivory Coast, after that Ronaldo shot that hit the post they disappeared from the game. i was surprised by how well Korea defended during the first half. But for me none of this matters, my most anticipated match is Honduras vs Chile tomorrow morning. Im from Honduras and the last time they made it to a world cup was in 82, I wasnt alive then so this the 1st time I see them in a world cup.

i didn't catch much of the second half, but I'm surprised North Korea even scored. It was a mostly defensive night for them, but they did fairly decent. Maicon's goal was rather lucky, but oh well, that seems to be the theme this year.
So so far the only team with a very convincing win has been Germany. Hopefully all the teams will play better now that they have the first game knocked out (for the most part).

Yeah, I was expecting Brazil to trounce the North Koreans, but they held their own.

WTF moment of the day: Watching my mom cheering for North Korea.

Yeah, 98% pftthe worlds population you fucking idiot.

Anyway, Portugal and Ivory Coast is off and running. Ronaldo looks well, would be great if Drogba was playing so the teams two best players could face off.

uhm.....are you watching a rerun? Game already happened bro.

I work all day and keep missing the games, DVRing all of them. So yea.....super late to the party I know.

well talk about it after you've seen the whole game then, its really weird reading comments when you are still mid game. Example: Drogba comes on later and thus the comment you made was strange.
Yeah my whole schtick is pretty Rexal.
I don't have a "schtick". I'm like this in IRL. Oh snaps.
That's even worse.
Wow, because I see things from both sides and then judge for myself? Wow, I'm so sorry I'm not like you.

Go listen to some of your crappy Insanely Shitty Posse, junior. Please, just because I'm not into the group think that's high around here.

Not from someone who listens to ICP. Never. fuck Juggalos.

Fine, I'm leaving your forum. Soccer is a sport for peasents anyway, all you need is a ball and a bunch of gutter trash and hoodlums.

Baseball is where it's at.

Peace out, stupid.

Anyways, great games today. I didn't see a World Cup champion-caliber Brazil team out there today, so hopefully they pick it up soon.

Good riddance of that guy.

i'm predicting we'll see Spain really establish their dominance on Switzerland: 3-0.
It'd be nice to see South Africa get a win.

This year there is really no clear cut best out there yet from what I've seen. The Germans are good, and i'm expecting Spain to be good, but aside from those two teams who can seriously say that their team is in World Cup Winner contention after their first game?

beautiful Swiss victory. Almost went 2-0. Spain's shot on the crossbar was amazing too. Unlucky for Spain, I really thought that of all the teams out there so far that they'd have the least trouble scoring goals.

I'm really feeling good about Germany's chances after seeing the first round of games. I hope they can continue playing at the same level that they've already shown.

Germany looks to be a force to reckon with this World Cup. I still really would love to see the States take the Cup, but it certainly will not be easy.

Forlan is living up to some of the hype. 2 goals, 1st being bad luck for South Africa, 2nd a little bit of a questionable call on SA's goaltender. A win's a win though :)

Some good games today. Chile defeating Honduras, Switzerland defeating one of the favorites and current Euro champions, Spain, and finally Uruguay defeating the host nation, South Africa, 3-0. Uruguay looks like the first team to be definitely moving on to the Round of 16, while South Africa looks like the first team to definitely not make it out of the group stage.

I want USA to win. If not them, then Germany. As an Irishman, I still hate France, so I hope Mexico crushes them tomorrow.

It kind of sucks to see South Africa struggle. It will really diminish the atmosphere at the games if the locals just tune out once their team is gone.

This also means that they will most likely be the first host nation in history not to make it to the round of 16.
