2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain
The USA needs someone who can actual strike on goal from free kicks.
Agreed. Here's another chance.

Jesus Christ.........my heart is fucking racing..........WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

USA USA USA

I need a cold shower after that. That is brutal for Algeria....they deserve a lot of credit they played a hell of a game.........

fuck you, Refs! You hate our glorious, glorious freedom! You will now taste our freedom!

LANDON DONOVAN = AMERICAN HERO

91st min we score!!!!

Talk about the last min........whew. I cant even begin to show the emotion I am going through, this is what sports is all about and only the World Cup can bring.

Howard deserves a lot of credit for that goal - he got the ball in control and out to start that play - awesome stuff!

Seriously. That was amazing finish.

USA might not be the best team in South Africa but they are certainly the most exciting. What a difference experience makes. Donovan just buried that goal where as Buddle looked lost when he was close to the goal line. This must be brutal for Slovenia.

I love the turn that this thread took after Donovan scored.

I thought the game was kinda fun. The fart horns were kind of annoying and the internet stream could use some work, but otherwise I enjoyed it.
(Ties in a championship series still doesn't make any sense to me...)

so fucking epic.
Now to root for Germany to win their group so we get Ghana and a chance for payback for them knocking us out in 2006.
should be interesting, most likely we play ghana or germany, but who knows serbia can sneak in there too, especially if germany wins. ill definitely be watching the germany/ghana game. australia is virtually out of it unless they pull off some amazing 8-0 win.

Games are already 90 minutes, doing the two OTs followed by penalty kicks (as happens from here out) if still tied during opening round group play would just be too much.

Yeah, actually Serbia is probably most likely.

Germany beats Ghana, and Serbia beats Australia, then those two winners finish 1st and 2nd and we get Serbia.

I was so excited I actually jumped up in the air..... I can't remember the last time I did that while watching a sporting event (well actually I think I did it a couple times during the Stanley Cup playoffs.... GO HAWKS!!!) but anyways what a game.
Damn, what a finish. USA!
Damn straight! Im rooting for Mexico but the USA is a real world contender.

Is it wrong to cheer on 2 teams in the World Cup? Then I dont want to be right ^_^

USA USA USA!! VIVA MEXICO!!
Use ESPN3 next time. It was crystal clear.

Not for the whole game. Mine got REALLY choppy as the game went on, at stretches in the second half is was like NES Soccer.

Thankfully it had cleared up by the end.

Oh, and I appreciate the enthusiasm in changing the thread title, but it's a little US-centric isn't it? We're still not even halfway through the last games of the group stages. Might want to hold off on the "16" bit until there are actually 16 teams left.

I can only imagine what the Slovenia locker room is looking like right now. Sitting around bummed about their own loss and then finding out the US won in extra time? It's gotta be like a funeral in there.

Saw a good point raised on another forum, that goal was a huge win for Fifa/futbol in the US in general.

Had the US went home on two straight games with disallowed goals on BS calls, that would have turned off a ton of newbie potential fans just starting to get into the sport with this world cup.

But with the goal, the US team goes on, gets even more publicity, and ratings should be even better having a game on Saturday now, rather than a weekday when everyone is at work.

That's an excellent point, and just judging from the mood around my office I'd say its very likely spot on.

Give the man a break. This is a U.S. centric forum, is it not? Most of the deals are U.S., are they not? Aren't we all that matter anyways? :whistle2:s I'm just saying, I don't think there are any Germans or Italians or anyone else for that matter that really care about this thread.

Go Yanks!!!

There are plenty of people around here who are fans of other teams I'm sure. I'm definitely rooting for the US now but I'm primarily a France fan (lot of good they did). Furthermore, plenty of people here are just soccer fans in general, and it seems sort of premature to change the thread title before the group stages are even over.
Yeah, this is a US centric forum for sure, so no reason for the World Cup thread not to slant that way too IMO.
In that case I'd be fine with "2010 World Cup Group Stage - US Advances to Final 16! GO AMERICA! SUCK IT WORLD!" :D

As it stands it makes it seem like the group stages are over, which they're not.

I was just getting ready to comment on the same thing. I had to make sure I wasn't posting in a NCAA basketball thread when I saw the new title :)

I'm really going to be sweating it for the next couple of hours. I know Germany can (and, honestly, should) win against Ghana - but I can't help but have a little bit of doubt about this young squad who won't have Ballack and Klose.

As long as we don't face a team of floopers like Italy, not that they are such a great team, just can't fucking stand that bullshit dropping like flies constantly.
Yes England!!! Kind of odd in this thread I suppose but whatever.
Again, i love the US team but its hard to not to feel happy for boys across the pond. It was nice to see the whole team picking it up...but they were unlucky with the rest of the finishes after that goal....Slovenia's keeper was AWESOME for the rest of the match.

I guess this puts Torres and Findley on the bench. I am liking the physical play Edu brings and please leave in Herculez Gomez. This guy is a fire cracker!
