2013 Yard Sale Thread

The worst one I ever saw was a guy who got to a 6am sale at 4am, all for 3 crappy NES sports games. The thing I hate about asking if they have any games is I always hear the "yeah someone bought all those" which basically means any other sale in the area has been picked through already. Theres a sale advertised tomorroe with a boxed NES and even Vectrex games....needless to say I'm not even going to bother because its going to be like a feeding frenzy and most likely ebay prices
Resellers are one of the many banes of the gaming industry. They buy all of the good stuff dirt cheap and inflate the market. Then when most of their stuff doesn't sell because they have it listed for retail, it all gets trapped in a basement for yet another 20 years. :bomb: My friends dad is a reseller and I've been going out with them for years. Oh the stories I can tell......

It was a good weekend. My son did just about as good as I did as you'll see.

This sale has been bringing stuff out for a while as they have been cleaning out a few storage units. This time was a good sale as I left happy. I ended up picking up:

Power adapter
Genesis wireless controller (x2)
Genesis wired control (x2)
Sonic & Knuckles (Gen)
NBA Live 96 (Gen)

The 2 SNES games were !4 wach and he was asking $15 for the Genesis lot. I offered him $10 for everything and he countered with $12 so I took it.

This was a find I would have never expected. I was hitting a couple sales before work and came across this one with a bunch of DVD sets and other misc. Then I spotted these items! I picked up a Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt board game and then a Pathfinder Beginners Box. As an avid pathfinder player I picked it up in hopes of some cool figs but the box used cardboard tokens instead. After all was said and done, I ended up paying $6 for the pair!

Total luck at this sale. I pulled up and the seller had marked all the games and DVDs as $1 each. The only thing I found was what I thought to be LEGO Batman 1 for DS. I gave the guy the $1 and then checked it as I left and found there was actually LEGO Batman 2 3DS in it!

First sale of the day and Avin was off to a good start. He immediately found a barrel full of monkeys and I picked up Tactics II by Avalon Hill and an extra battery for my tools. Not sure if it is the right type but I figures it's worth the game. I ended up giving $2 for everything.

Avin scored again at this sale. Immediately we saw there were RC helicopters. Since the last one we picked up recently was a bust I figured I'd try again. I asked how much and they were a quarter each! Then Avin saw the lunchboxes and since he loved 'How to Train Your Dragon' I went for them too. In the end, I offered $1 for everything and we left happy.

Avin game out way ahead on this sale day! He found a brand new Chuck Truck set and it was marked $5. I ended up asking the lady if she'd take $3 and it was accepted!

This was a totally random find at 2PM in the afternoon well after I was finished for the day. I only stopped as my wife and I passed it and asked if I went there. I said no and we stopped real quick on the way back home from town. Not really much of a story though. The guy had a Street Fighter II Turbo Promo VHS tape and I was going to pick it up. He then offered me the box that it was in but I wasn't interested. Then I saw the box of PC stuff stuff and asked how much for the box. He was looking for $5 but I offered $3 with the tape I had. He took it. Here's what was in it:

Street Fighter II Turbo Promo VHS
AC/DC Back in Black CD
Red Hot Chili Peppers Californication CD
Freedom Fighters
Fantasy Pack: Disciples II
Fantasy Pack: Prince of Qin
Fantasy Pack: Dragon Throne
Fantasy Pack: Robin Hood
Medal of Honor Allied Assault
Black & White Deluxe
Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition
Duke Xtreme
Duke!Zone
Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders
Unreal II: The Awakening
American MaGee's Alice
Age of Empires Gold Edition
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
Age of Empires II: The Conqueror's Expansion

Empire Earth: The Art of Conquest Expansion

Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear
Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear: Black Thorn
Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear: Mission Pack Eagle Watch
Rainbow 6 Rogue Spear: Mission Pack Urban Operations

Also with all these, I got the manuals for most of the games as well. Not a bad deal!

Looks like your son is a natural! I cant wait to have kids and have them go G-saleing with me!

Here's my finds for the weekend. I got the SP for $5, and it's a 101 with a nigh perfect screen so I'm very happy about that. The books were $3 apiece, and the DVD's (the find I'm most proud of) I was able to get for $10. The games altogether came to $20, and the Game Genie was $5. Plus I met a guy who's into the local pinball tournament scene, so I'm going to chat with him about trying to get some official pinball tournaments at MAGFest this year.

Regarding video game early birds, it's gotten to the point where I generally avoid sales that advertise games unless the ad goes up after 12am the night before, otherwise it's swarming with resellers. Plus, I've managed to find a couple poeople in my area who are in the process of selling off years of yard sale finds that don't advertise on craigslist, so I like to hit them up first and then see where the wind takes me.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:22868]

Hit one up today nearby. Had some DVDs for $1 each and four 360 games for $2 each. I picked up the Indiana Jones/Kung Fu Panda dual game set. Passed on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, BK Pocket Racer and Open Season. Picked up Ace Ventura: Pet Detective for my nephews and Shutter Island for my dad both still sealed. (My sister also got the Dumb and Dumber double set that was open)

AWESOME finds today!

Bought a Nintendo Gamecube with a OFFICIAL COMPONENT CABLE for 10 ****ing dollars!!!!

Also bought a 7.1 Pioneer receiver with a remote for $15

Im so incredibly jealous of this. This is the #1 thing on my list of things I want to find. Nice score.

Edit: Quite frankly, the price on these things has gotten just absolutely ridiculous; I mean at the end of the day it IS just a cable...sigh I should have just bought one off ebay when they were going for ~70-90 last year...

For the price of that cable why dont you just pick up an older Wii model with Gamecube ports and an official Nintendo component cable for it? Does the same exact job and you can even play Wii games if you want!

I had a very good morning, lmao.

First sale I found stuff at I got a copy of Pokepark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure as well as the Adventures of Tintin Volumes 2 and 3 hard cover for $2.00. I didn't know value, just wanted to break a $20.00. The game is worth around $25.00 and the books at least $10-15 each. These aren't the edition that I keep seeing when I check Amazon/EBay, same books but different covers. Found one of each that sold with this cover on eBay recently, one went for $20.00 and the other went for $30.00. Was going to keep these but may have to sell at that price...

Then I found a disc only Timesplitters Future Perfect for Gamecube for $1.00. One of the few GC games I still wanted.

Found an SP with no games but the cord for $2.00. Outside is a bit rough but buttons are all good and the screen is perfect. Its a 101 so even better.

Then I found a sale that had an Xbox controller for $1.00. Asked if they had any games and she pulled out 3 disc only Xbox games and said I could have them because she wasn't sure they worked. They all look fine, I'm guessing they will. Games are Star Wars Battlefront, Ghost Recon 2, and Barbie Horse Adventures Wild Horse Rescue. Funny enough, the Barbie game is one of the rarest games on the system, should fetch me $20-30. VERY nice day all in all, no huge finds but enough to make it worth the trip.

Only went to 1 sale today, but I think I had my best haul of the Summer thus far. Got the following for $13:

NES:

The Legend of Zelda

Stinger

Airwolf

Metal Gear

Kung Fu Heroes

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out

Super Mario 3

Wrath of the Black Manta

Rygar

Caveman Games

American Gladiators

Golgo 13

Pinball Quest

Mystery Quest

Hogan's Alley

DuckTales

Ninja Gaiden

Goonies II

Double Dragon III

StarTropics

Snake's Revenge

Pac-Man (Tengen)

Sega Genesis:

Altered Beast (Complete)

Dreamcast:

King of FIghters Dream Match 99 (Complete)

Playstation 2:

Klonoa 2 Lunatea's Veil (Complete)

DVD:

Battleship (Complete)

Everything was in good to great condition, and all the cart only games had Nintendo/Tengen sleeves. Not anything overly rare but a decent mixture of titles I think. DuckTales is the best game of the lot, no?

Gamecube component cables sold for 10 ****ING DOLLARS plus shipping

just gotta watch like a hawk, I missed a couple cheap copies of earthbound (less than $50 BIN prices), some people just want stuff gone.

Another interesting find.

So 3 weekends ago I stumbled across a HP Mini Laptop. Owner told me it was broken and gave it to me for free.

I ordered a power cable on eBay and it works for the most part. One of the monitor hinges is broken and a few of the keys do not work. However, plugging in my wireless keyboard, everything works fine.

2 weird things happened when I turned this on. Turns out it belongs to a friend of mine LOL. The person I got it from must have been related to him somehow. I could not login on his account so I used his brothers..... and once I did that a porn video was playing -___- Also there was Limewire. This probably has viruses in it. But maybe factory restoring can fix it. I may just keep it and plug it into my TV.

Today's sales...

So I went back to the neighborhood I bought the Gamecube cord and receiver from as I was picking up some furniture I bought yesterday. I decided to stop by the guys house that I got the GC cord from. His son decided to bring out some Gamecube games. Bought Zelda Twilight Princess, The Legend of Zelda Collectors Edition, and Mario Kart Double Dash with a bonus disk, ALL COMPLETE. I bought those 3 games, and a MASSIVE Chicago IKEA poster for $15 total! I also bought 3 Vita games for $1 each, Forza 4 for $3, a cleaning kit for $5, and that's it.

KR5fCSd.jpg

At a garage sale yesterday, I got Spyro: The Dragon (PS1), Dragonball Z Budokai (PS2), Star Wars Battlefront (PS2), and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (PS2).

All of them $1 each.

Got a pretty good sized CRT from a bargain store today for $10. Went home and hooked it up to my sega saturn and the difference is night and day with my HDTV. I forgot how good these old consoles could look. Bonus points if you can figure out what game I am playing.

So when I go yard saling, I usually follow the same basic route most weeks. This week I decided to do that route backwards.

Needless to say I didn't find any games until the very last sale.

I picked up :xbox: Sniper Elite (CIB), Morrowind: GOTY (missing manual) and :ps2: Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 (CIB) for $10 total. I will probably be selling these since I realized I have all three on Steam already lol.

Wii & 360 Games (All Complete) - 8

Nintendo 64 With 12 Games & Memory Card (Not Pictured System With Hookups & 2 Controllers, 1 1st Party Other Not) - 20
Pac-Man Handheld - .50

The first two things were brought out when I asked about video games and were asking price, SNES is the first model. The N64 was brought out when I asked about video games and I offered 20. The Pac-Man deal was asking price and out. Also not picture is a WiiMote With A Nunchuk & Motion Plus that I got for $5 which was the only thing I got Saturday.

For Non Find BS - http://imgur.com/a/lGXMd (Spoiler tags only seem to cover the first paragraph on IP.Board 3.4.5 and this week's was too much to force into one big paragraph that doesn't belong as such)
Bonus points if you can figure out what game I am playing.

This weekend was definitely a good one and I didn't really spend much at all!

9328007671_f1789b7804_z.jpg

This was an odd sale. The lady running had a bunch of N64 games, original Xbox, and PC games marked at $5 each. However, while looking through CDs I found a PS1 game. I asked how much and it was only $1. So I picked up Dracula: The Last Sanctuary. Luckily both discs were with it too but no manual.

9327966319_3386442262_z.jpg

On my way to an off-site meeting for work, I stopped by this sale. After looking around and almost leaving, I spotted a crate with VHS tapes in them and then mixed in were 5 complete N64 games. They were marked 50 cents each so I asked if they would take $2 for all 5. I got:

F1 Pole Position 64
All Star Baseball 99
FIFA Soccer 64
NFL Quarterback Club 98
Nagano Winter Olympics '98

9327972259_065ab34444_z.jpg

This was the first sale on Saturday I went to and came out ahead. These were laying on a table marked $1 for the binoculars and $1.50 for the calculator. I gave them $2 for both and got  Tasco inFocus Binoculars and a TI-83 Plus calculator.

9330775150_0530a48c0c_z.jpg

At this sale I started looking around and then saw a stack of NES games. I asked how much expecting it to be a buck or 2 each and she said a quarter each! I picked up all of them and offered $2 for the whole stack. I ended up with:

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out
Castlevania
Super Mario Bros. 3
8 Eyes
Tecmo Baseball
Golf
Ninja Gaiden II
Hoops
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet
Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt
Commando
Joust

Went to this sale as there is always something at this particular one. I walked around and found a couple GBA games that were sitting in a bowl of water from where it had rained minutes earlier. I pulled them from the bowl and asked how much. The lady said "$2? no... $1? Just take them. They are wet and I don't know if they work now." So I ended up with:

American Bass (GBA)
Monster Trucks (GBA)

Not really sure what happened but I let confused and with games.

This was not something I'd bargained for. I pulled up to this sale and immediately saw this printer. I disregarded it at first and then looked around. Finally I broke down and asked how much it was. They told me that they anted $5 for it. So I left. After going to the sale across the street, I thought about it more and then went back. I pulled $3 out and said if she'd take $3 I'd take the printer. So she did. It's an HP Officejet 6500 Wireless Printer/Scanner/Copier/Fax. I installed drivers, cleaned it up, and tested it out and works great!

He said he had some Nintendo 64 stuff that they didn't play anymore and told me to wait a minute. He came back with a big box full of games and manuals with the console. I asked how much and he said to make an offer.I tole him I would give him all I had left in my pocket which was $8 and he took it! In the bok I got:

Damn, nice pick ups.

Usually pretty dry around my area. The only thing I found was LEGO Indiana Jones for the 360.

^ So jealous of this find! :)

I didn't find much, at least not as good a deal as you.

One sale, this lady had tons of gaming stuff that she said was her husbands. I dug around, found a few games, and she goes and grabs something when I ask how much. Her husband had printed off a chart of eBay prices. Super mario 3, super mario world on snes and a few ps1 games, bugs life, Barbie (for my kids). She quotes me $90 and says best she'd take is $80.
I left that sale. People using eBay as a guide really are annoying, they just find the highest listed price and assume that's how much it is.

Next one I happened on was not bad, I dug through a little box with games, lady wanted $10 per, but I managed to get them 3 for $20. Super Mario sunshine, Zelda wind waker and animal crossing. Not the best deal, but decent.

That was my only gaming find yesterday, the other little odds and ends, new boxing gear for my son, $5 and another coach bag for $5 then I headed home.

Today was decent for me actually.

Hit 4 sales and found stuff at 3 of the 4.

1) A genesis model 2 with a few crappy games and 2 controllers $5

2) Pokemon Heartgold, Pokemon Ranger, Super Mario 64 DS (all cart only) $6

3) A Platinum gamecube (no controllers/cables), gameboy player adaptor, 2 Dragonball Z GBA games, a gamecube mic, Phantasy Star Online Episodes I+II, and a silver game boy micro $10

Overall I was pretty excited to get the micro though I dont know if it works, and Phantasy Star was a nice find

My finds for the weekend are

A white Xbox 360 wireless controller $2

Slim PS2 with two controllers and cords $20

Super Nintendo with one controller, hook ups, and a game $25

So after having a good Friday, I had a decent Saturday. Nothing spectacular though.

PlayStation 1 with all the hookups, 2 controllers, 1 memory card, Parasite Eve (complete), Cool Boarders 3 (disc only), Driver (complete), 2extreme (complete), Test Drive 5 (disc only) for $10.

Random Splatterhouse poster I can't find any info on for $5.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy Edition Risk for $3.

After cleaning out 3 storage units in 3 days leading up to Saturday, I was thrilled to drive around and buy one thing at a time. Yesterday was one of my better days of the year. For only the 2nd time this year I found some decent game stuff (been REALLY dry by me).

At my first yard sale a kid was selling a bunch of his unopened lego sets for $2-3 each. This older guy, definitely a dealer was buying a few when I got there but hadn't touched a few of them. So I took a look. I picked up a Star Wars set and the guy said "I'm buying that." I asked if he already bought it. He dodged the question. Just very rude. I asked the child's mother if the item was sold because the man wouldn't tell me. She said no, and I bought it for $2. I went to look at another set and the guy just says "you're too late on that one." I enjoy yard sales too much for one smug person to ruin it at all for me. Anyway.. the finds.

Power Rangers Board Game, Goosebumps Board Game & Micro Machines Super Auto World- $4 total

Loved Heroquest as a kid, wish I still had my set and expansions to it. Pretty sure it goes for some decent money now

I picked up a $10 white Wii today without any controllers but it had all the cords and the sensor bar at a garage sale yesterday.  It came with Wii Sports and Kirby's Epic Yarn.  They wanted $5 more for the balance board and I left that behind but everyone I talk to says I should have picked that up too.

Had a pretty busy weekend, so I was only able to go out for a little bit on Sunday. I managed to find an NES with a controller, zapper, and non-OEM cords w/ Bubble Bobble, Tetris, Yoshi's Cookie, and Wheel of Fortune for $20. A little more than I wanted to pay, but I was hungry to go home with at least something. I also won a lot at an estate auction that looks promising, and I'll be picking that up Tuesday.

Finally went yard saling for the first time on Saturday and hit about five or six of them.

Bought all these at one sale:

-PS2 Batman Rise of Sin Tzu

-PS2 Spiderman 2

-PS2 Chessmaster

-PS2 Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal

-PS2 Men in Black 2 Alien Escape

-PS2 Star Ocean Till the End of Time

-PS2 GTA San Andreas

-PS2 Army Men RTS

-PS2 Call of Duty Finest Hour

-PS2 Enter the Matrix

-PS2 FFX-2 (no manual)

-XBOX Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon (no manual)

-XBOX Fantastic 4

-PS2 Guitar Hero with guitar and carry case

All are complete except the two noted. There were also about ten sports games which I would have just left but he wanted $3 a game unless I was taking it all. Ended up paying $32 for all of it. Is that a good price or should I have haggled more?

Non-gaming finds:

-First two volumes of Naruto, sealed - $5

-The Matrix - $1

-Rear Window collector's edition - $1

-All seven volumes of My-HiME, with 6 and 7 sealed - $8

yes, you overpaid, but if these are titles you will play, don't sweat it.

fyi just look these titles up on sold Ebay listings, knock off 25% without shipping

or the lowest price on Amazon and take off 30%

Thanks. I was going to play most of them - might try to sell the sports titles and one or two of the others in a lot to recoup some of it.

People really want that HD for their Gamecube.
But wouldn't it be cheaper, or the same price, to just get a Wii with a component cable and play the GC games on the wii? Are people really paying $160 just to be able play Gameboy and GBA games in HD?! I would think the video quality on those wouldn't improve that much anyway since the picture is already being stretched out so much.

I went to a sale this weekend and this a-hole reseller I always run into was there. He is the guy that is ALWAYS showing up like 1-2 hours early to every sale and buying everything. A few years ago I found a stack of SNES games and as I looked thru them he says "I already bought those" then 5 minutes later he actually pays for them, so technically I could have still bought them but he straight up lied to make it sound like he paid for them already. Anyway, I came across another sale last weekend and there he is sitting in his car, at 8am for a sale that starts at 9am. The seller already had everything out in the yard so I just walked up and started looking, then of course the second I do that he RUNS out of his car and finds me looking through the box of games and he yells out "oh god DAMN it!" As I am digging through the box to see whats in there he is standing there with his arms crossed, huffing and puffing because he wants me to hurry up and leave. Eventually he fuckin' pushes me out of the way and literally pulls the box out of my hands and just takes every damn game out! It took me a second to process what was even happening, it was so bizarre, it was like being in a car wreck....I had a feeling like "did that seriously just happen?!"Before I even had a chance to realize what happened and go off on the guy, I hear him ask the price on the games and the seller wants $20 each for crappy N64 games that I wasn't even interested in, so I immediately didn't care anymore. I was like 5 seconds away from suplexing this idiot through a table right there in the driveway. The even dumber part was he actually ended up spending $150 on 8 common n64 games that weren't even worth 1/4 of what he paid

Ehhh... you definitely over-payed, but you could make your money back. Try not to jump on games just because you find them. Be patient, you'll eventually hit some good deals. Most of those games are pretty lackluster.

Those guitars... you see them everywhere. I literally see about an average of 10 guitar hero guitars every time i go out. Don't waste your money on them unless you want them for yourself.

But yea, if you see bundles with just a few decent titles (IE: FFX-2, Star Ocean) see if you can snag them for a buck or two. Pick and choose, don't buy the shovelware.

The Essex/Dundalk area of Baltimore is absolutely lousy with these people. Most of them don't even care about the games, they're just looking for something they can buy at 6am then take to the local flea markets to resell (there's like 5 or 6 in the area). Unless you're willing to get up at 5am and shove people out of the way, it's just not worth it to venture down there.

I'm a reseller but mainly in audio equipment, but when it comes to gaming stuff I usually keep anything cool I find. Never encountered any resellers. My local Craigslist is full of them -_- Always had issues with lowballers when it came to selling there.

There are these two resellers by me that put everything they want at the yard sale in a bag and make a ridiculously low offer to the seller without letting them look in the bag. If the seller wants to look in the bag and see what they grabbed, the two get really pissed off. They usually will grab about $40-$50 worth of stuff at yard sale prices and offer $20.

If I saw people like that I'd call them out on Craigslist and warn everyone.

I'm back. I am about a year behind on my posts. I'm on page 5 of this thread and I am looking forward to reading it all. I may even post  *ahem* a 'few' things. ;)

I still have stuff to post from last fall. We should have a race to see who can post the fastest.
