2013 Yard Sale Thread

It's not much, but here are my finds for the week. First, we have a bunch NES, SNES, and N64 games I found for $4 each. A little steep but I couldn't really haggle as there were tons of other people looking at them and I didn't have any of them, so oh well. Fun sidenote: the seller had a Dolorean in his garage! I really wish I had asked to sit in it, but it was early and I had other places to be. Nearby I found Twisted Metal for $1 and the Pokemon toys for $2 for all of them. TM will go to MAGFest, the toys are for me. Lastly, I found Munch's Oddysey for $4 at a Goodwill on the way home, and since it's one of the few games on XBox I actually care about, I grabbed it.

Not the best weekend I've had, but not the worst, either.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:22950]

There is a guy by me that has a Dolorean too. He was selling it, but he wanted to much for it. This was like 7 years ago and it is still there.

I stopped by the local thrift store today and found some goodies. I didn't expect there to be any video games whatsoever because most people around here aren't into gaming (most are into the outdoors or meth, sometimes both) but I found Side Pocket and Test Drive II for Genesis, both complete and in good shape (except for Side Pocket's manual). They also had Quarterback Attack for Saturn, also complete; even has the coupons and a little protective sponge. One corner of the case is broken so it won't stay together, but everything inside is in perfect condition. If it weren't for the case, I'd swear it was brand new. All of the games were $3 each, which is more than I wanted to pay, but game finds are so rare and I think this is the first time I've seen a Saturn game in person since 1996, so I went ahead and got them.

I was also happy to snag a bunch of glasses from various casinos and bars like Hard Rock, Fitzgerald's, Lady Luck, and a few others. Also got a couple of wine glasses from Solvang and some nice whiskey glasses, along with a couple of other pieces. When I was loading everything into my cart, I didn't even notice that they were on sale for 10 cents each! So I ended up paying $1.60 for all of these instead of $6.

201307pickups2.jpg

It's hard to tell, but there are 8 of those tall glasses in that picture. When everything is all put away and I can find my nice set of gold-rimmed crystal wine glasses, I'll take some good pictures of my bar. But for now, you can take a look at where all of my glasses will eventually be:

barprogress2.jpg

A lot of glasses haven't been put in the cabinets yet and, as you can see, the ones that are there are a bit disorganized. I just moved in last week and I've just barely started working on putting the bar together and it's currently still a low priority. I need to finish putting away my library and toy collection so those boxes are finally out of the way.

If you look closely, you may be able to see some Garbage Pail Kids stickers on the minifridge (stocked full of booze and stuff for cocktails). There's also the reflection of a naked fat guy...I suggest not trying to focus on it too much.

And finally, I also grabbed these board games for a total of $4.50:

201307pickups3.jpg

They're in need of some cleaning, but I think I got a good price for them. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my finds. I even grabbed a couple of toys and a Winnie The Pooh mirror for my kid, as well as a cord that will fit my tape rewinder.

Two more pickups:

Nintendo 64 w/two controllers, and three games (007, DK64, and Pokemon Stadium) - $20

Saw a box labelled SNES and found this instead. A little disappointed, but I left my email in case they find the SNES. The woman recalled playing Harvest Moon for the system, so fingers crossed.

Atari/Pac Man books - fifty cents

An odd, but cool find. The couple holding the yard sale had dozens of these books (they must have owned a store at some point), but I could only really justify picking one of each. Would probably be an okay flip for someone who frequents ebay, but I only sell/trade locally, and there isn't a large market for items like that. Will look good in the game room, though.

Is it to late to ask for you to go back and get me a set =D
Those are awesome!! I would love to have them on the wall of my game room. Nice find

Almost no sales listed this morning. Really had to work to put together a list... it was supposed to rain which I think scared people off, but now its not supposed to until after noon. I'll just have to hope I see signs...

SLOW morning but found a few things.

Unitron Olympian 2600 (pong clone) boxed

Magician (nes) w/ manual

Tom and Jerry (nes) w/ manual

Nobunaga's Ambition (nes) cart only

Wanted 20.00, paid 15.00. Pretty meh but fine and it was a slow morning. The last Olympian to be priced reasonably went for 38.00 on ebay and it didn't have the box. Didn't have these games and all are worth over 5.00.

The Pirates of Dark Water (genesis) in box but no manual. $2.00

Thats it...

I'm so sick of the damn rain....its rained nearly every weekend this summer, and to rub it in even more, it always rains ONLY on Saturday and never during the rest of the week. Even if the rain isnt supposed to come till late afternoon everyone still freaks out and cancels their sales

Part of me was tempted to buy the entire lot, but the part of me that needs to clear out his basement held back. I'll probably regret it later.

Wow so here is an interesting one. I emailed a yard sale post advertising old video games, and the guy responded with quite an astounding list of Super Nintendo games. I tried getting him to let me look at them tonight but he said no only tomorrow morning. So I always print out yard sales I am interested in so I can Siri the directions on the go, and I noticed that from when I printed it minutes after it was posted to now it suddenly had a different address 30 minutes aways and a different start time.

So I searched the addresses and found out each is advertising a yard sale tomorrow but with a completely different assortment of items. I then emailed the posters of those yard sales to ask if they had the Super Nintendo games that they had advertised and one of them responded saying they had no idea what I was talking about.

So it turns out some asshat was wasting people's time sending them on a wild goose chase!

There's been reports of people doing that semi-frequently in larger metro areas, like LA.  For whatever sick reason they put out fake/diversionary CL posts to waste other people's time.

On that note, I'm excited to go out for only the 2nd time this year!  Like a lot of others have said, it's been a combination of tons of bad weather on Saturdays and a super-hectic work schedule.  I actually had my own sale last week, so I've got a nice chunk of change to blow.

I've been up all night doing stuff around the house, mapping out the sales, etc, and am getting ready to head out in another hour or so.  Gonna hit around 20-25 sales, swing by the pawns to see what's new, and then come home and crash.  Great way to get to spend the beginning of a much needed vacation from work!

Good luck to everyone today.

Meh day today. I did try the asking about games that you guys suggested and had mild success. I found a guitar Hero 3 controller for $5 but I haggled it down to $3. Two UFC dvd's for $1 each

a cd case of psx games for $5.

It contained:

crash 3- b/w cd

crash 3-color cd (why did they have 2 copies?)

Need for Speed Underground 3

Skateboarding featuring andy who gives a crap

Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories

Singstar country - lol

Burnout 2

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3

NFL Quarterback Club 2002

and some crappy now this is music cd's

Not to bad but I've come to notice that my GPS is garbage because it was telling me to turn at a road that does not exist

Lot of rain yesterday but most yard sales started today instead. Only found a couple gaming items but I found a few interesting items also.

Kingdom Hearts 1/2- $4

N64 controller- $2

Ibanez bass amp- $10

Noma Snoracer Super GT, which I may use at a park down the street in the winter since it has a 100 foot hill- $3

Very cool Star Trek poster that..... lights up O_O I wonder if this was custom made- $3

Great day at the village yard sales today. Gonna post my pickups later as I gotta get an sd card and batteries for my new camera. Lets just say it also included some speakers, games and a few small other things.

I stopped at 2 garage sales and picked up:

Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PS2) (disc only)-$4

Wii sports-$7

xbox 360 rockband set (drums, mic, guitar, game)-$25

Beatles Rockband (xbox 360)-$5

The Big Band Theory Seasons 1-4  -$10

Family Guy Volumes 1-8   -$40

242u4g5.jpg

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (Xbox, Complete), Silent Hill 2 (PS2, Complete), SMS & Genesis Controllers & Nintendo RF - 4.75
Crash Bandicoot Plush - .10
Game Boy, Game Boy Color And 9 Games, Dreamcast Controller & Fishing Rod - 23
Pink DS Lite & Wild Arms 3 (No Manual) - 5
4 PC Games (Beyond Atlantis II Looks To Be Complete) - 5

The 2 Last Gen games & controllers were asking price at 2 each for the games and .25 each for the controllers & RF. The Game Boy Color bundle was marked 10 so I offered 20 total for both Game Boy sets. They were thinking a buck or two for each of the Dreamcast items so I offered 3 for both, I'm guessing the controller was never used as it was still in the bag inside the box. Offered 5 for the DS & PS2 game which was marked .75. The PC games were 2 each and I offered 5 for the 4 I got.

Game Boy Games - Game & Watch Collection 2, Some Mary Kate & Ashley Planner game, Super Mario Land 1 & 2. Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Street Fighter II, Super Mario Land & Toy Story.

Non Find BS -
Friday I was out for 3 hours and got to 17 sales. Saturday got to 8 sale in a little over 2 hours, raining off and on so 6 sales had nothing going on. Only thing worth mentioning was the sale I got the GB & Dreamcast stuff at the guy was telling me about how he was related to somebody that worked at Sega back when the Dreamcast was out and sent them Dreamcast stuff. He said they had like 200 games but it was long gone has his brother took it and he mentioned that said brother has moved several times since taking the bulk of the Dreamcast stuff. I almost didn't go out Saturday with a smaller list of sales and rain but did anyways, I actually got everything Saturday except for the Crash plush & stuff I paid 4.75 for and got the DS & Game Boy etc stuff at my first 2 sales Saturday.

some PS1 games had a colorized cd for the "black label" release and a non colorized cd for the "greatest hits"

yeah the fake yard sale thing strikes again! Happened to me a few times last season, and it looked like it happened in my area(long island, ny) again today. Usually when the posts list alot of games, especially older ones, most turn out to be fake. I just think it's someone that wants to pick up some stuff at another sale, so he/she makes fake ones for others to go to, while he/she gets whatever they want at the real sales.

That Star Trek poster thing might've came from Spencers... I remember seeing those in there back when the show was current.

In my town I saw the same garage sale sign posted on multiple streets all leading in different directions but all stating the same address. Each sign was miles from each other and all pointing towards different points on the compass. Turns out the actual address was nowhere near any of the signs and did not play host to any sale.

Alright back with some pictures now. Not as many yard sales as usual this year but pretty decent quality.

First up is this camera. Been looking for something nicer then the cheapo point and shoot/cell phone camera I've been using. Figured they would want $50+ easily for it but I asked. They said $20 and I was surprised but countered with $15 and got it. Overall it is not bad and all the pictures after were taken with it. Biggest issue though is I have to push up on the lens enclosure a bit to get the camera to take a photo. I figure I'll enjoy it while I can as it's only $15.

Next up were these pair of speakers, been looking for a sub and they also had a decent center channel as well. Marked $35 got both for $25.

Figure I'll get the boring stuff out of the way before the few games I found. Also picked up these two police scanners. Got the old Bearcat for $1 and the Portable for $5. Both work and I've been looking for a handheld unit for a while.

IxQgMDt.jpg

Finally the games I found. Got the GB games for the price marked and the PS1 games were $3 a piece. Couldn't pass up Pokemon at that price.

Overall happy with what I got today. Haven't been out a whole lot this year.

Very bleh day. Probably ranks up there as one of the worst.

First sale I picked up Lilo and Stitch dvd, new Miracle/some other disney movie combo and an old X-men trade which includes the Dark Phoenix Saga. Got it all for 5 dollars

The guy had lots and lots of comics but none were bagged or boarded so I didn't bother going through them. I also don't know what comics are worth anything except for some key issues here and there.

Like 12 sales later got a router for 5. Parents need one.

That was it. Out from 730 until about 11 or so.

Oh well. Next week.

The percentage of yard sales here is extremely small this season for some reason so I have been getting hardly anything but I did get one thing today a Giga pet diary for 50 cents, turns out this is worth $50 on eBay but none are selling at that price so I should be able to get at least $10-20 for it as a more realistic figure.

Did alright today!

Asked a guy at a sale about games, he asked what system did I want? An awesome sign, lol.

Came out with a SNES 3 controllers, and about 20 games. Also a bunch of random sega games, some sega master, atari, etc.

Asked what he wanted for it.. $5 !!!

Whipped out my wallet before he had a second to think about it and was happily on my way. Gave him my number as he said he knew he had the sega master system as well and would give it to me if he found it. He called about an hour later and had it, made my way back there. He also had all hookups, controllers, etc.

Games were pretty good.

Mario kart, mario world, 2 copies of mario all stars, zelda link to past, rock and roll racing, donkey kong country and some more solid titles I cant remember. Retail on all the SNES games is $180

Part of me was tempted to buy the entire lot, but the part of me that needs to clear out his basement held back. I'll probably regret it later.
I wish you would have! Then you could have sold me a set. =) But I completely understand the not wanting to add more to the pile that will probably just sit and collect dust

What model camera is that? I bought a Fujifilm camera today that looks very similar for $10. S 5100 I think. Decent camera.

We haven't been out since the beginning of June. Hope to have the house painted this week so I can go hit the last good month before the season ends.

There may not be a lot of good finds left, but I am going to look.

Its the S4250. Takes nice pictures but a bit annoying that I have to push up on the lens to get it to take them. Wish I had noticed that when I bought it. Oh well.

These are my finds from last week as I decided to not go out at all this weekend. Friday I wanted to go to Targets toy clearance sale because most things were 70% off. It ended up raining all day Friday any how so it worked out. Then today my mother in law was visiting so I wanted to spend time with her.

Anyways last week was pretty amazing for games and systems On Friday I found an ad that listed video games: Nintendo, Ds and lots of Xbox games. For some reason it was an ad that stood out to me. It started at 10 am and was very specific about no early birds and no pre sales plus they had turned of the the ability to contact them.

So I picked out some other sales that were around it to kill time as I try and respect peoples start time. On the last sale before I went to the game sale I found this

I hope putting the pictures in spoilers is ok, they are just large and thought it would be better to have them hidden unless someone was looking at them

DSC09709_zpsd9bf1e9b.jpg

And yes those games were the two that were showing when I approached the box, a no brainier without even looking at the other games. This is a sale that only advertised baby clothes and toys, no mention of games or electronics

Close ups of the games and system

DSC09710_zps6a6f198b.jpg

So I headed off to the 10 am game sale and ended up getting there about 15 min early. My plan was just to stay in my car until 10 am but they had everything sitting out in the driveway so I got out and asked if they were open and got greeted with a friendly Yes.

Yipee Plus I was the only one there, in fact I was the only one until at least 5 after 10.

They were not kidding when they said they had lots of games, there were 3 bins filled with them ( I would guess at least 200)

These are the games I picked up.Paid $150 for all of them

DSC09450_zps738be93f.jpg

They also had tons of DVDs for $1 each So I bought a bunch of those as well, including 25 Disney animated movies AND~ The complete Star Wars Saga Widescreen Theatrical Editions! :bouncy:

But the best part of the sale wasn't even all the great stuff that I got. It was what the lady told me after I had paid for everything.

"The other video game guy was pouting, he was seriously pouting and stomping his feet over the pile of games you were getting."

This guy was a least 50! I didn't notice his tantrum because I was to busy looking at DVDs by that point. I did my evil chuckle after I got in the car in honor of his fit. LMAO   Though I have to say I would have paid money to see this going on, the seller sure got a good laugh out of it.

Went to probably 10 more sales after that, no video games but I did pick up some great toys and more movies.

While Friday was the day for games, Saturday was the day for consoles. None of the sales that I picked these up at even advertised games.

I picked up tons of great books and toys and didn't spot my first video game item until 11am

This was just sitting on the table marked at $40  It is brand new and also included a new nunchuck. I offered $20 and she countered at $25, which was fine be me. Plus the seller was happy to have it gone, she said it had been sitting in her closet since shortly after launch

DSC09708_zpsae47711e.jpg

While I was paying for the wii and a few other things a guy came out of the house holding a PS3. I asking him how much and he said $40. I'll Take it!

DSC09706_zps779a30a0.jpg

Worked out nicely because I just traded in my 80g mostly backwards compatible PS3 to game stop. I was hesitant to do this because I still use the backwards compatibility, but it had been running hotter than it normally did and the fans were starting to be much louder than they once were so I didn't want to chance it yloding on me and not getting much for it. I got $150 trading my old one in and I figured I could get a new one around black Friday for about that and do with out the backwards compatibility.

This launch 60gb works like a champ and is quieter than my old 80g so I'm super happy.

I went to about 35 sales on Saturday and on my last one of the day at around 2:30 I hit retro jackpot! Ended up paying $20 for all of this

DSC09705_zps07e594b2.jpg

And my Favorite find of the day! Ive had one before but I sold it with all the games before I moved up north. Every time I see one posted on here or games for It I get slightly jealous. But now I have one again with the box! Woot

DSC09704_zps08571de9.jpg

I know I don't post on this thread much but I really do enjoy reading and seeing everyone's finds. I go out to yard sales nearly every Friday and Saturday from spring to fall but I never seem to find the time to take pictures and post what I find very often. So thanks to everyone that does.

super jealous of that boxed genesis/sega cd find.

I don't go to rummages anymore because it's just too much of a time sink for what is sure to be nothing but disappointment and overpriced sellers, people who got there at 6 AM and bought all the games, but this thread always makes me wish I would.

I really couldn't believe my luck considering how late in the day it was. Especially after she told me that they had sold at least half the stuff they had out (though this was the only game stuff they had, so its not like people bought other games instead of this)

It probably helped that they weren't sitting out in plane view, just in a back corner on a shelf.

The original set I owned was CIB as well so this was an extra bonus, it even had the game it came with in the box, though no other Sega CD games

Oh it is without a doubt a time sink, but I go out looking for other items as well. I miss out on lots of games because of the people who buy the night before or show up on peoples door steps at 6am (Most sales start at 9 here) I will never be one of those people, I find it to be ill mannered, my momma taught me better than that. A vast majority of the sales that advertise games on Craigslist I avoid. Its just not worth the hassle because there will probably be 5-15 people there at opening or way before wanting the same thing.

Honestly most of my best finds are at sales that people did not advertise games or if they did they just say video games and nothing else

I think i'm especially fucked being in milwaukee. A lot of resellers from chicago and some of the northern cities around here swarm the area regularly.

I know of at least one guy who has a shop north of here that most weekends will snipe any yardsales mentioning games wayyyy earlier than their advertised opening time.

I guess I've got most of the stuff I could really want at this point and paying near market value for games is worth my time at this point.

Honestly I kind of hate spending nearly a whole day of my weekend searching. Maybe if i wasn't working I wouldn't mind.

Went to some garage sales this past saturday with no luck at a bunch of sales. Finally came across this though.. CIB Gamecube, metal gear solid, and zelda guide for a total of $30
331erzq.jpg

I probablly would've passed on the gamecube, but I opened it up and found this:
2iu9gy0.jpg

WOOOOOOOO
Nice Work. They really look fantastic, especially on an HDTV that does a clean 480p signal.

I got lucky and found some in with a $80 GameCube lot that had like 30 games too. Thought I'd never find these cables.

Nice finds so far for the weekend. Glad people are finding the Gamecube component cables. I always wanted a set, not so much to hold on to and use, but my inner collector wants to know I had a set at one point.   I had a great weekend with games and will post more later. My favorite find was my first find of the day yesterday. A woman had just a few things for sale on a table. One was a CD spindle. I noticed Virtua Tennis for Dreamcast up top. Opened the spindle, and there were a bunch more Dreamcast games (even split of real & burned).

Among the real games:

Virtua Tennis

Tennis 2k2

Sonic Adventure

MDK 2

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2

King of Fighters Evolution

Skies of Arcadia

Shenmue

&...

CANNON SPIKE

$5 for the spindle and I finally got to play Cannon Spike. (A few yard sales later someone had a Sega Sports Dreamcast I picked up w/ 2 controllers for $10).

Ok. I think this is where I left off last year...If anyone can tell me how to search threads in the 'new CAG' I can know for sure. My last post, I believe was for my 'Epic Geneses lot'.

7-14-12

I bought all of this stuff at the same sale. I calmly grabbed all of their games. I believe I paid $15 total, but it was over a year ago. Sorry if I already posted this stuff.

old magic trick

I haven't looked these up yet.

DVDs were 50 cents each

Gameboy SP

PS1 games

Picked up 19 NES games today.  On vacation right now so I'll post pics when I get back.  $2 each.  There were some goodies ;)  (Castlevania 2+3, Mario 3, Battletoads, Toxic Crusaders, and MORE).  Very happy ;D

Despite not having a lot of time to do so, I think I found some pretty good stuff this weekend. Well...I never really have a lot of time to go yard saling, but still.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:22962]
My first stop was an estate sale that I e-mailed ahead of time, and they said they had an old Colecovision. We don't have one of those for MAGFest yet, so I stopped by to grab it. Apparently the woman running the sale had looked up some eBay prices, so in the end I managed to grab the Coleco plus games for $50. I had to go back the next day to pick up the power brick, and I ended up getting a racing module for it for $10. More than I wanted to pay, but I'll get reimbursed. I picked up the Rabbids game and Luigi's Mansion for $6 at yard sale later on near my house, and both of those will be going to MAG as well. The Mario DDR game is NiB and I picked it up for $10, still not sure what I want to do with it yet.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:22961]
After the estate sale I stopped at a sale advertising electronics, and found a ton of Mega Man stuff! Picked up all the Mega Man games and toys in this pictures for $30, and I'm very happy about that. The DQ8 guide and the GB games (Zen: Intergalactic Ninja) were a $1 apiece at the same yard sale I got the DDR game at.

[sharedmedia=gallery:images:22963]

My last find isn't really gaming related, but kinda cool nonetheless. At the sale with all the Mega Man stuff there was a guy selling a bunch of music equipment, including this mixing board. I texted my sound engineer buddy who also runs MAGFest and does a lot of work with the Baltimore Rock Opera Society theater, and he told me to grab it. The guy wanted $100, but I offered him the $50 I had left in my wallet and he took it. My buddy checked it out and, with the exception of one knob, it's looking good. He's going to fire it up today and play with it.

Capitalism, ho!

Actually found something gaming related at a yard sale this weekend.  Picked up an original Xbox with two controllers and a Guitar Hero III controller for the Wii for $5.  The Xbox didn't come with av cables or the original power cord and the guitar controller was in rough shape, but they both work.  Saw a Wii and a couple of Xbox games elsewhere, but didn't really want them.

7-21-12 Sorry the pics are bad I got a new camera that sucked, my newer pics are from my phone and they are better.

Pokemon and half life demo mini disc still sealed .15 total! Yes 15 cents!

Does anyone know anything about the half life disc? I haven't been able to find anything on it on the web at all.

.25 each vhs and dvds. Sometimes I buy oddball vhs tapes as I don't have a way to look stuff up. This time It payed off with "eliminators" ;)

Not game related, but I got the Bruce Lee ultimate Collection for $1.00 at a yard sale I stopped at today. I'm a big Bruce Lee fan so I'm pretty happy with this purchased. Was going to buy this new but its $96 on amazon. Glad I found it at a yard sale.

I also pick up oddball VHS movies if they're cheap enough, only hit on a few. Do you know of any website that lists VHS that haven't been re-released? Difficult to find what's truely rare without having to crawl through ebay or Amazon. I was happy to find a copy of "No Holds Barred" and "Ice Pirates" until I found out they were being released on Bluray a month later.

A few VHS off the top of my head that are good pickups:

Song of the South (obvious)

Scavenger Hunt

Dark Night of the Scarecrow

Dark Tide

Eliminators is a wonderfully terrible movie. My copy had a great quote on the back - "Like most people, Mandroid started out as human." Amazing.

I look for some VHS too, but I agree it's hard to know what's valuable without a lot of research. The movie Rad is somewhat valuable and never got an official DVD release. Other than that, I primarily look for old horror and wrestling VHS (a lot of WCW is pretty valuable).

old (80s) skateboarding and music all come to mind in addition to what you guys said. I have some more I haven't posted yet. I know there is a movie called 'the other woman' that i bought at dollar tree and sold for pretty decent money...it was when dollar tree got an influx of VHS movies like old anime such as evangeleon and DBZ was showing up too at the time.

Yeah I was lucky enough to find a copy of RAD a couple of years ago...

I know there are more, but I can't remember at the moment.
