2018 Yard Sale / Flea Market Finds

Maybe a girlfriend's? My friend (the mom) doesn't play games, she's more into wine culture and I love her because she's always very generous with what she picks up. Seems a little out of character for the son, but I hang out with him less than I do his mom so it's hard to tell.

Had a little luck this weekend, but also an astonishing disappointment. On Saturday I went to a neighborhood sale where a person was bringing games, but they were late and I had to drop my wife and son off at an event so I regretfully left after grabbing the Bob Ross board game from someone else for $2. After dropping off the wife and the kiddo I went to a nearby community sale, and the first house I went to had a huge box of Gamecube stuff! It was $5 per game, but I figured it'll be worth it for the first party stuff.

There. Was. Not. A Single. Damn. First Party Game. In the Box.

Very much sounds like they either sold the good stuff on eBay or someone else already cherry picked the good stuff.

The thread seems mostly dead but I've got one last, very weird find for the year. No pics, but you'll understand why in a moment.

So I hit some flea markets this past weekend and picked up a few games and an Ouya, but nothing really worth crowing about. But while I was walking around around I heard someone mention 8mm film, and I've got a filmmaker buddy who collects that sort of thing so I thought I'd check it out.

It was porn. A tub full of 8mm porn.

Being the diligent friend I am, I go ahead and text my friend to see if he'd be interested. He likes to hold screenings and he's not sure when, if ever, he'd every show porn but he said to go ahead if it's cheap. I offer $10 for the tub but the guy balks and says there's a lot in there. We haggle for a sec and we settle on $15, with the guy noting that I'm the only one who's shown any interest in it.

So now I have a tub of old erotica sitting in my house while I wait to hand it out to him tomorrow. There's like 45 reels of film in there, so I feel like that's a decent deal? Either way, it's worth it just to have a new weirdest thing I've ever bought at a flea market.

In some circles, those vintage films can bring decent money.

FYI, I had a few decent finds this year just haven't had the opportunity to post them.  As usual.

I looked at a couple of them, but a lot of them are like "Deep Throat 7" and "P#@!& Fan 4." Also definitely some bestiality in there so...fun.

I guess what I'm saying is that if there's money to be made in there, I don't think it's worth it to my sanity to be the one to do the research on it.

I woke up late not expecting to go yard sailing. It was rainy and FL yard sales are about wrapped up until spring. I had seen an estate sale listed the night before 15 miles north of me in deland and figured I had nothing to do so my wife and I took the kids. Games were not announced but they had ps1 games listed. We got there at 9 when they opened and I picked up 12 pretty worn/scratch ps1 games, some with case/manual, some disc only and a game boy color and original 2ds for $13.

We begin to head home because of the rain and my wife suggests we drive through deltona and see if there is any yard sales and take the scenic route home. Sure enough, we find one sale and everything was soaked. We talk to the woman and ask for video games stuff and she says she has some. Some turned into a bunch of Atari games. I saw her remove what looked to be a complete nes bases loaded to get to the Atari games and I asked if she had boxed nes games. She said she does and brings out a huge box that had a bunch of games

I don’t even look and ask her how much (loose Mario Kart 64 was on top as was loose super Mario World). She calls her husband, he doesn’t answer and asks me for $100. I show her I have $82 in my wallet and she takes it.

Sure enough, there are 37 boxed nes games (most expensive is the original Mario Bros at $100+) and another 35 loose games nes/game boy/snes/n64 games. Nothing super rare but easily my best haul of the year. Most of the boxed nes games were complete and none of them look super worn. A few look brand new (Zelda II looks like it was unopened until I checked for completeness). The Seller states they have been in the garage forever.

So update on my 8mm porn find. I dropped it off with my buddy, who paid me back what I spent. Fun fact: turns out there are companies out there that buy up old porn. A lot of it wasn't copyrighted, so they'll digitize it and release it themselves. That's probably what my friend is going to do with it, which is fine by me. I got my money back and a funny story out of it; I don't think I want to put in the time/effort to become a vintage smut peddler.

Like I said, I'm no expert, but I think if you don't copyright it's technically in the public domain. That's why everyone and their grandma can release Night of the Living Dead if they want to, because Romero screwed up the copyright.

There have been some posts lately about flea market finds. I thought I'd start a new board so that we can put future postings here. What are you finding at flea markets, yard/garage sales, estate sales, etc.? Click your "Home" button to see the new board.

By chance was that Ohio swap meet anywhere near Lima: did they also have coon dog trials? If so I was there also and found a long wanted item for a price I could live with; it was a great weekend

And then you got banned!

Anyone know if GKs Mini Market in the High street has closed down?

Tried to drop off a Hermes Parcel this morning and they were closed. Lights were off and gates closed.
