2nd CAG SSBB Tournament!!! - Currently: FINAL MATCH - JMG!!! vs Peachachu

Brackets updated.

Still have a few questions about particular matches:

The Grey Storm vs. Attack of the PK...Fury: Who was JohnnyFoxDarko's partner?
Elite King Hero vs. Peachachu: Who represented Elite King Hero in this game?
The Jiggly Walrus vs. Dual Stars: Don't seem to have the final score for Round 1. Anyone?

Hero101 and I did. I got my butt kicked, so we lost
Damn, I was wondering why I wasn't being bugged with PMs.

I guess I can play tonight, but I really don't care. I'd just be playing for my partner's sake.

If you want, give me a time and I'll play.

Summer fishing and camping has pretty much gotten rid of the excitement of Brawl for me.
I won't be around tomorrow night because I'll be watching hockey, but would Tuesday or Wednesday night work for you guys?

Also, if you're serious about not caring about the tourney, PM your partner. We've got a potential solution in mind. ;)

We lost all of our matches in Round 1. I can't remember what the life count was at the end, but it wasn't as close as I was hoping it'd be.
Wow, Blue goes on vacation for a week and he doesn't even miss a match!
That may or may not have been planned. :D EDIT: Oops, I forgot you guys had a third, so it really didn't matter.

Turns out Amigo wasn't going to be able to make our match last night due to unforeseen circumstances, which basically revolved around people dicking him out of a ride home, which resulted in not-being-available-ness.

My Wii is still fucked up, and I think it is honestly due to my damn router. I went and found a second USB adapter that I'm going to try installing tonight to see if that one might work, since the other one did not.

Likewise, I am trying to get my router back up and running.

Whether or not you guys want us to play O:ID is entirely up to the staff of this tourney, which I think is Joe "I'm totally worse than Strell" B1233. This also stakes upon the idea that O:ID wants to play and can do so relatively quickly.

I'll leave it in your hands on what we should/should not do. I believe StealthNinjaScyther remarked about how "the game just doesn't want to be played," which seemed like the situation. Please respond in here instead of PMs if possible, since my box is a little cluttered at the moment. :/

Well, I want the games to be played, even if it's at the inconvenience of the next round (to an extent). It just wouldn't be a tournament if people were dropping left and right.

That said, if I recall correctly, it seemed like both teams were partially responsible for the non-occurrence of the game the other night (please, correct me if I'm mistaken). So, if by Wednesday night, you guys are unable to make a rotten go of it, I'll just flip a coin and let that determine who continues. ;) This shouldn't ruin the time frame, as most of the matches take place on the weekend anyway.

Strell, did you read my aforementioned suggestions? Play on a friend's Wii? Let Drnick and Amigo take this one? That sucks about the router situation - if I were more versed in home networking, I'd help, but as it is...

Is...is the router plugged in?

:whistle2:o

...

Congratulations, Operation: Impending Doom! You've advanced to the next round!

Of course, I'm kidding.
Or am I? (Only click this
You've got to keep Strell guessing, or he'll never obey. :nottalking:
if your name is not Strell!)

I'm so looking forward to playing your team JoeB (assuming I'm playing in the next round). For some reason we don't seem to ever play each other much :whistle2:(
That sucks about the router situation - if I were more versed in home networking, I'd help, but as it is...

The question you should have asked: has he tried unplugging and replugging it?

That always does the trick.

I totally, totally clicked on all those spoilers.

1. I have one friend with a Wii that lives close to me, but he's married and has a 2 year old child, and as such, they wouldn't be too keen on me showing up to play a game at what would likely be "late at night" as far as they are concerned.

2. Drnick and Amigo are more than welcome to take this round. I'll talk to them and see what they say, and keep O:ID on the up-and-up about it.

3. The router is currently not plugged in. As I tried last night in vain to get it to work, I became infuriated with the fact that it seemingly was not sending out any wireless signals. So I tried to plug one computer (the one I'm currently on) straight in with the hope that Nintendo's own USB adapter would work. Sadly, Nintendo's own USB adapter is made of cat feces and broken dreams, and it too would not work.

I am trying to resolve technical issues as fast as I can, especially since I really want to download Dr. Mario when it finally comes to Wiiware.

If the coin toss thing happens, then I'll agree to it whatever the outcome. I would like to play the match instead of this, but desperate situations, desperate situations.

This all said, I'll contact my team and O:ID and see what we can agree to. Thank you for being so understanding.

You know, this is true, and it confounds me a lot. I play Kado often. You play Kado often. Why the heck don't we play each other often? I mean, doesn't the transitive property mandate that we do so?

That said, hopefully I'll play as well. I've taken the first two matches, but we'll see what goes down. :)

Hey Joe, you up for some 1v1 matches? I want to practice with an A-class brawler ;)

Edit:

Sure we'll set something up via PM, your D3 is a pain in the rear to hit, much less combo, besides I still SD far too often, usually happens when I'm against a good player, anticipation and intimidation.

Speaking of beef I still need to 1v1 him w/ lucario :)
Hey Joe, you up for some 1v1 matches? I want to practice with an A-class brawler ;)
Oh man. Rain check? I've been playing for almost four hours today. Just don't really feel like playing any more. When else are you open? PM me, and we'll set something up!

And thanks for the compliment! If I'm an A-class brawler, you're, like, an A+-class brawler! Seriously, you're so good - the only Lucario I struggle with as much as yours is Beef's. :applause:

My router appears to be working again.

However my Wii still cannot get connected. It's amazingly irritating - all the settings are good, it says the test is successful, and then nothing. Can't get onto the Wii Shop, can't connect in Brawl.

I come back at the second computer that was wireless and is now successfully connecting to my router gives me an IP conflict.

If I try to enable DMZ, the Wii can't find the SSID.

Unbelievable.

I did manage to get a lot of LAN cords. I am going to mess with it more tonight in hopes I can make a wired connection.

In the meantime, our rescheduled match should go down tomorrow night. I need to go contact my team.
I'm sure that if my Lucario wasn't mentioned at all, the one in my signature would have something to say about it. ;)
It is because of your Lucario (after watching you play him) that I started using him in my rotation. :D

What model/version router are you using, Strell? Is there a firmware fix out there? Have you tried to scale down the security on the router. I only say this because we have an older router that wouldn't connect a Wii using WPA2. No matter the setting. After looking it up online, I learned the particular router had problems with its WPA2; WPA and the Wii worked just fine. (And there was sadly no firmware update for it. :l )

EDIT: I don't see why it would help, but I read somewhere else that connecting to the Internet Channel first will help alleviate some connection problems. (I don't think this would change anything...but it couldn't hurt.)

WEP with 26 characters, which is like the second-to-last/weakest security out there. No MAC filtering, SSID is being broadcast out, and no other restrictions are in place.

It's a Linksys WRT54G version 8, and I upgraded the firmware to the latest version, which is something like 8.00.5. About the most generic router out there.

I'm going to mess with it more. I might throw DD-WRT on it if it pisses me off enough.

I'll agree with the generic part...everybody has that router!

(Mine is version 6... ;) )

I'm assuming you have DHCP enabled? Have you tried giving the Wii a static IP?

Yeah, DHCP is enabled. Tried assigning a static IP with DMZ.

Maybe I can try assigning a static without DMZ.

All else fails, I'm going to daisychan about 8 or 9 ethernet cords together.

Some piece of equipment is going to be my bitch by the end of the night.

And we're back to shit not working. Second comp can't find the wireless signal, even though it's 5 feet away.

I'm really thinking - for whatever reason - the router itself is the problem.

I think I have another I can switch out to test the theory.

If I'm right, then that means it's the second dead WRT54G in the last ...oh, I'd say 8 months or so.

Beautiful. I actually happen to like (and recommend) Linksys. But I can't put up with this shit. I hate Netgear, so who does that leave? D-Link? Blech. Belkin? Belkin might be passable, but I never seem to have much luck with ANY of their things.

This might be a worthless suggestion but your router is set to broadcast B and G wifi right? The channel should also be 1, 6, or 11 to be cooperative with the Wii.

Well, it looks like strell's connection works now.

Sorry for the disconnects, I think Nintendo and I have problems lately. Did you get the disconnect messages too?

Hi Suko,

Aye, I was getting disc messages.

I think I have fixed the issue with the router. Long story short, it was a MAC address error, which was causing certain IP addresses to be shut down. That explains why sometimes my second comp would work, the Wii would have a successful test, and then shit would hit the fan. My ISP locks out more than 5 MACs running simultaneously, which is stupid, because it counts the router and the main comp as two. So that was why it seemed like the router wasn't sending out a wireless signal - the ISP was clamping it shut.

I'm actually quite surprised they are that on top of things. Hmm.

Also, someone was leeching, so I had to kick their ass off. But I think I've got it working now. I'm about to switch out the temp router for the real one and see if it continues to work.

Suko, that first match, I was just so happy that shit had finally started working, that I jumped in while playing with the Wiimote. That is some awkward shit. I kept trying to jump, and my muscle memory would think "right hand," which is why I kept doing so many B attacks.

I switched to the GC pad after that.

Hooray!

lol, that would explain why I had a hard time predicting stuff :)

Pairings are updated! The Jiggly Walrus moves on to the next round, and Team Win/Awesome - despite their awesome team photo, is eliminated from the tournament.

Yep. We're advancing without a fight...
I'm in the same boat. I'm working almost full time at my job and then I go workout with my buddy after that so I don't even get home before 9 or 10 and by then it's shower and sleep. I can't say for sure when I'd be able to play and I haven't played in over a week.

You guys can have the win because CK64 doesn't care and I'm just too damn busy to actually play video games right now. To think, I was all pumped to clear out my backlog during the summer and now I have less time than in college. :bomb:
I'm sorry we weren't able to work the scheduling problems out, especially since the first tourney taught me just how much of a pain in the ass they can be. Here's hoping it works out better for you two next time. :)

I've already PM'ed Dyeknom. Jiggly Walrus, I'll PM you as soon as we agree on a date to play.

Attention all,

I am pleased to announce that DASboot will be facing off against Operation: Impending Doom within the next hour or so. AmigoOne and I will be representing DASboot, and I believe Stealthninjascyther and juvo will be playing for Operation.

We would like to wish all involved good luck, and look forward to the match.

Salute, good sirs! And madams, if there are any, of which I am hopelessly ignorant about.

Ok, I think we're going to say DASboot took this round.

Basically, it came down to Amigo and myself versus Stealth plus an AI. Juvo and antlp didn't show up, and Stealth actually suggested the AI. We dropped in a random level 7 (I originally suggested a 9, Stealth suggested a 5).

Began the game, but I couldn't turn off FF. So we played without it.

If O:ID has any problem with any of this, please feel free to let me know in here or via PM.

All said, we had great matches, and I really enjoyed them.

Edit: I had messaged antlp when I saw him online, but then Amigo quit. Antlp did just respond via PM saying he'd forgotten, which is fine. We'd already played 3 matches with DASboot taking all three. If we can manage meeting up tomorrow night, we could retry it. Otherwise I'll leave it up to others to decide. I'm fine with anything - even if it still comes down to a coin toss or something.

So the offer is still there if we can arrange another time.

Okay, I'll keep all of this information in mind. But since I gave you until tomorrow, I don't mind waiting to see if a rematch does happen.

So here's what happened...
We were supposed to play yesterday but two people couldn't really make it so we decided to play tonight. Then Lilboo couldn't play and Gothic Walrus opted to use a computer character as a partner.

Team :whee: beat team Jiggly Walrus 2 to 0.

So a win for Whee :whistle2:#

I wish we could have played for real. Gothic Walrus seems like a nice guy.

A Level 4 CPU player is not interchangeable with a human one, as I learned today. Especially since I picked Jigglypuff and Peach to try and stay true to boo's character choices - the Wii has no idea how to play as those two.

Given that the alternative was forfeiting, though, I think I gave it a valiant effort. Apologies for dropping out so quickly after the second match (I'd promised to get ice cream with my sister), and once my Mario Kart addiction wears off I'm sure I'll play you guys again. :D

Our opponents (Krusty Menace) said something about vacation a few days ago and we attempted to get a battle in but it never came to fruition, and then I haven't heard a word from either of them since that day.

Hey Joe, due to our pairing not being confirmed until just recently, I'm requesting an extension so we can plan for the next week.

That okay?

Sure, sure, sure! Guys, I'll update the pairings tomorrow (Sunday), given I need to go to bed now. :D Be sure to check it out!

I can't wait for our next match, but I'm going to have to, since I'm nowhere near a Wii. Alls I can say is that Joe's Lame Goo is going down. Oh yes, I'm dead serious. And if you don't believe that, then my Lucario skills can speak for themselves.

Round Four has begun! I've decided to crack the whip and revoke my previously lax policy - we still have a ways to go, so I'm going to make sure this gets done! Also, important announcement:

ANY ROUND THREE MATCHES STILL INCOMPLETE BY WEDNESDAY AT 11:59PM WILL BE DETERMINED BY A COIN FLIP!

Of course, if I notice one team has put more effort and has communicated with me more about the matches completion - well, let's say they have a higher chance of winning the coin flip. ;)

We must continue! We're almost there, guys!

Just for reference Ikohn's last activity was 05-20-2008 03:41 AM, pittpizza was active today but I'm not sure if they have a partner or anything.

Update:

Game has been postponed until tomorrow at 3 PM Pacific time, due to some technical difficulties/logistics problems that occurred tonight. We have all agreed to this and should the match not be played, we will accept the coin toss. Further, if one team cannot field two people, the other team agrees to allow a level 9 comp.

Until then, we eagerly look forward to the match!
