$3.99 Anime DVDs @ Big Lots

I visited my local Big Lots today, and there were lots of anime titles for $3.99. These were mainly Pioneer/Geneon titles.

I remember seeing:

Ai Yori Aoshi
A Little Snow Fairy Sugar
Sherlock Hound
Soul Taker
Lupin
Zoids
Mao-Chan
Hamtaro
Sol Bianca
Captain Herlock
Magical Project S
El Hazzard, the Wanderers
Heat Guy J

Unfortunately, I already had quite a few of these titles. But for anyone that doesn't own these titles and has these stocked at Big Lots near them, this is a really good deal!

Anyone still finding Lupin LE's? I'd trade for 'em if anyone is interested (Guile....).

Good news. I went back down and while I was picking up what Lupin they had left I picked up the .hack Twilight voulme 1. This slip cover is actually ok, its just the case that appears damaged. Some pics...

I love y'all for leading me to more Lupin episodes! I picked up the ChoroQ sets of Scent of Murder and Sweet Betrayals.

(Actually, I picked up two copies of Volume 8: Sweet Betrayals in case anyone wants to trade. If anyone does, please PM me your trade list.)

Guile, if I can't find volume 7 anywhere nearby, can I buy your extra from ya? I may also be interested in your .hack//Twilight if it's available... but first I have to make sure I don't already have it. =)

I also picked up ex-Driver, Heat Guy J volume 1, and 707-Submarine (such a nice case. I can't wait to see what Aniplex did with this movie)! They had Lain volume 1, but I've already got that.

Has anyone seen Heat Guy J volumes (anything other than 1 and 4)?

Are y'all keeping your ChoroQs? Jigen and his car are okay, but Fujiko and her bike look silly. And they're not the same scale as my Lupin gashapons, so I don't think I'll be hanging onto mine.

I'm going to keep my ChoroQs for now. I don't have a lot of collectibles like that, and I like them. :)

I already traded Lupin volume 7 with Strell and sold .hack to Kuma. However, I am going to Roanoke today as that is the last place where Big Lots is close to me that I haven't checked. A CAG named Namelessloser already asked for Lupin 7, 8, 9 also so I'll look for multiple copies. However if I can only find one volume 7 I have to give it to him since he asked first. Roanoke has three Big Lots in their area though so hopefully I'll be able to find more. Volume 8 seems to be more common for some reason.

All good. I got bored and went to the Union City Big Lots yesterday. Found the Lupin dvd I was looking for, along with Melty Lancer and Stratos 4 (or is it 7?).

FYI for anyone around Union City, GA: There are still a couple anime DVDs that I just had no interest in, such as Saber Marionette J (no idea the volume), Blue Submarine (first volume), Armitage something or other, and a couple more. I didn't know if that was stuff y'all would be interested in, so I left it, rather than picked it up for trading.

I'm glad you found it because they only had one Lupin 7 DVD when I went to Roanoke yesterday. They still had 3 or 4 volume 8s though. Strange.

in case anyone is interested, i saw a metric shit ton of Megaman toys at my BL, im sure theres been a decent shipment to most places.
 
someone posted on one of the other boards i watch that mother's day (this sunday) big lots is having 20% off everything. sounds like a ymmv. either way, could save you a little change on these.
 
I just picked up a copy of Lupin Vol. 10 with Choro Q, so those should be coming out at other stores as well.

Update: BigLots and Dollar General have new stock of Bandai anime DVDs. BigLots is the usual $3.99 per title, Dollar General is $3 per.

YMMV obviously, but I added 20 DVDs to my collection yesterday. Unfortunately, no Lupins in this latest shipment.

i beg to differ about s-cry-ed...its a pretty decent and entertaining show! i'm still amazed i got it for only $10 off buyritedvd...but hey i woulda paid at least $30 had it not been a price mistake
 
I wish Dollar General/Big Lots! had universal inventory updates across all stores. My area in particular seems to get these shipments a month after they're reported, and it's quite annoying going to check up every few days and be constantly disappointed. :(

I recently thought to myself, "maybe I was too hard on the show... I'll give it another shot" So I tried watching it again. It's rubbish. Naturally, that's just my opinion.

This needs a bump as i just found the same stock of bandai dvds yesterday at my big lots and they just got them in as there were plenty left that were not there last time i was there.

I must get more dragon drive that series is really good!
 
I try to make it a habit to check my Big Lots once a month, and almost forgot this time around (thanks Sara!). Checked today and sadly, no restock yet. Historically, mine is overdue for an anime restock. I'll be watching it more closely for the next couple weeks.
 
They had Overman King Gainer, Yukikaze and some 3D kids show at mine (the title escapes me at the moment). That was about it though.
 
Got .hack//legend of the twilight vol. 1 and Gundam F91. They also had Overman King Gainer, Yukikaze, a couple volumes of Kikaider, and some other things I can't remember off the top of my head at the moment.

Damn, I have to check this out. You guys who bought Yojimbo got lucky. I bought the whole series for full price when it came out. Well worth it though, awesome show.

Wow. I picked up the same exact stuff as you. Man, I need one more volume of Yojimbo to complete my collection, I found volume 5 at Dollar General.
 
Saw some of those at the local Big Lots. The shrinkwrap looks coarse and do not remotely resemble those brand new in the store. Could it possible a re-sealed copy?
 
Yeah I would also check your Dollar Generals right about now as they should have the new dvd stock in. I've seen some cool stuff like Stratos 4, Wolf's Rain, and Escaflowne.
 
Well, after 6 months, my Big Lots finally restocked with some anime. Picked up:
Scrapped Princess 1 (really happy that finally showed up there)
.hack Twilight 1
Galaxy Angel Z 1,2

Left behind lots of stuff like Argentosoma, Angel Tales, Kikaider, Mars Daybreak, Yukikaze and Stratos 4.

So check your Big Lots! I was wondering if I'd see any Geneon titles (in lieu of the recent sale - you figure they are liquidating), but I think it was mostly Bandai.
 
Someone at the DVDTalk anime thread updated the other day with one new 3.99 anime title found at their local BigLots. So it's possible that a number of animes were purchased and are trickling out to stores.

The BigLots that always do me well have so far had no new anime titles. Found some new DVDs including a horrible looking Leslie Nielson b-movie that I had to pick up, an early 80's Charlie Chan and some Teddy Ruxpins (IIRC). Other than that, I haven't found anything good yet.
 
I'm going to check my Big Lots/ Dollar General Market before I go to work today. Last time I went to both thought it was really slim pickens.

*edit* I did find Scrapped Princess vol 1 at Big Lots just across the border in NC though. That was great because I have wanted to see this for a long time.

That was me ;)

It seems different Big Lots gets their "anime restock" at different times. I.E. back in Aug in this thread people were finding fresh stuff at theirs, but mine was dry until earlier this week. Mine seems to be on a 4-6 month rotation. I just drop in once a month to check, hoping to stumble upon new stuff.
